Whitley County Historical Bulletin covers Blue Bell Lofts opening
Tumblr media
Thanks to Dani Tippman from the Whitley County Historical Society for this coverage of the Blue Bell Lofts Grand Opening! Dani was unable to attend the ribbon-cutting, but watched and enjoyed Susie’s speech on video. Dani wanted to include this story in the Whitley County Historial Bulletin. That is really a special treat, as Susie wrote a piece in 1987 on the history of the facility that also…

A life richly lived and appropriately, effusively celebrated –  Ball State University honors my mom Susie Duncan Sexton
Tumblr media
I couldn’t be prouder of my mom Susie Duncan Sexton. This article is from The Ball State University Honors College alumni magazine. The author Olivia Power captured my mom’s spirit and soul. This is a beauty, and Olivia wove all of the threads of my mom’s life – her writing, her books, her advocacy, her progressive views, her irreverence, her wit – so lovingly and so thoughtfully. I am just…

So proud to have been part of Ann Arbor Civic Theatre’s production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Ron Baumanis gave me a chance to push myself theatrically in a way I never had before, and he helped me rediscover my love of this crazy art. Grateful to have been nominated alongside incredible talent like my Legally Blonde castmate Connor Thomas Rhoades and my Drood pal Jared Hoffert. Thanks to the membership for nominating and voting for me, to my loving parents Don and Susie Sexton for always encouraging me to embrace adventure and for loving me no matter what, and to John for his boundless patience and enthusiasm for all this foolishness. And to the best cast and crew EVER: Vanessa Banister, Lisa Gavan, Brodie H. Brockie, Brandon Cave, Becca Nowak, Alisa Mutchler-Bauer, Sarah Sweeter, Kimberly Paige, Michael Cicirelli, Chris Joseph, Peter Dannug, Jimmy Dee Arnold, Ashleigh Glass, Debra Calabrese, Kari Anne Nilsen, Wendy Maine Sielaff, Julia Fertel, Heather Wing, Aaron C. Well, that feels good. Being nominated for an Ann Arbor Civvie for "Outstanding Actor in a Mainstage Musical" for The Mystery of Edwin Drood alongside such esteemed company as Connor Thomas Rhoades (from my #LegallyBlonde days - who is nominated for Putnam County) and Drood castmate Jared Hoffert - and for a show that is likely the happiest highlight of my theatre life - is a lovely thing. Even more, the fact that Drood has so many nominations for so many wonderful and talented people - Ron Baumanis, Daniel Bachelis, Debra Calabrese, Lisa Gavan, Alisa Mutchler-Bauer, Vanessa Banister, Becca Nowak, Kimberly Paige, Brandon Cave, Michael Cicirelli, Jimmy Dee Arnold, Brodie H. Brockie, Molly Borneman, Aaron C. Wade, Bob Skon, and TJ Johnson - is a testament to what an ensemble collaboration this show was. The talent and the kindness and the heart in this experience were boundless. Thank you, again, Ron, for giving me this opportunity, for your friendship, and for helping me find my love of theatre again. I will be forever grateful. And thanks to Ann Arbor Civic Theatre for accepting and embracing me, for this acknowledgment, and for all of the fabulous work you do!
