After they announced the launch of the remake of the game that revolutionized the Survival Horror genre, Alone in the Dark, being considered the father of 3D horror games, I had the idea of making a fanart of the original trilogy and the 2001 reboot.
The characters that are in my fanart are (From left to right): Edward Carnby (AITD 1), Emily Hartwood (AITD 1), Edward Carnby (AITD 2), Grace Saunders (AITD 2), Edward Carnby (AITD 3), Aline Cedrac (The New Nightmare) and Edward Carnby (The New Nightmare).
In addition to drawing the characters from this wonderful game franchise, I had the idea to also draw their furry version, where I had based myself on the art style of Tracy J. Butler, the creator of the Lackadaisy comic. I was quite delighted with her work and found the story of her comic interesting (this sparked my interest in reading the comic), so I decided to pay tribute to her.
To draw the characters, I had based myself on their appearance according to the games and I'm not very used to drawing characters with very formal clothes (since the first 3 games are set in the 20s, as well as Lackadaisy), but it was worth it. It was a lot of fun doing this drawing, but it cost my hand, my fingers and my neck, which are still hurting, lol.
I can't wait to play the remake of this classic horror game that influenced several famous franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, because what would these franchises be without it. Maybe one day I'll play one of these games again, more specifically the 2000s reboot, which as much as it's a fucking difficult game, is still my favorite of the entire franchise.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is a survival horror video game which features both Edward Carnby and Aline Cedrac as playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and storylines. The gameplay combines elements of action, exploration, and puzzle-solving within a chilling and atmospheric setting. The game received praise for its immersive atmosphere and challenging gameplay, and it's often remembered as a significant entry in the survival horror genre.
The gameplay features are going to be a large inspiration to me, and they are:
A flashlight that can be used to light up darkened scenes, revealing hidden details and uncovering items.
Players can explore various environments, such as a mansion, a museum, and a forest, while solving puzzles and uncovering the game's mysteries.
The game incorporates a mix of action and survival horror elements, requiring players to combat various creatures and enemies.
Players can switch between controlling two different characters, Edward Carnby and Aline Cedrac
The game offers a nonlinear storyline, allowing players to make choices that can affect the outcome of the game.
There are multiple endings based on the player's actions and decisions throughout the game.

The perfect previsualization of one of my female protagonists, Hilary Silvercroft. She was first created after I played and beat Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare, which left me both satisfied and scarred for life.
Hilary was originally a sixteen year old fan based character who fell in love with Edward Carnby. She also worked for the Mystic Order of Luxis with her older partner Yuki Monroe.
Now she's an original character, though I have not managed to figure out a title for her story series. She also has a twin sister named Hannah, though I'm thinking about adding a third sister.

Ami and I have been playing through Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, and I've become pretty obsessed. I'm super disappointed that the newest iterations in the series never picked up or followed this title, making it the only one featuring Aline and this particular Carnby, I am happy that it's still as spooky and fun as I remember it. I went to revisit it just to show my kiddo, thinking it would be somehow less than how I remembered it, but it's actually held up really well! It still looks pretty good and has, on top of an amazing score, some great scares and a lot of fun and innovative ( at the time ) moments! The creators, at the time, had released a prequel comic and probably intended for there to be more games, or perhaps more comics, continuing Aline and Edward's adventures seeking ancient treasure and battling The Darkness, but sadly, those days never came, so all we have is what's out there now. Luckily, we live in a time where it's easier than ever to produce fan content and help the legacy of creators and their visions live on, even when the money just wasn't there and things were underrated in their time!

Alone in the Dark:
When the investigations of supernatural detective Edward Carnby (Christian Slater) lead him to uncover a long-lost tribe called the Abskani, he finds out that they worshipped demons. These evil creatures are now attempting to resurface in the world, and Edward can stop them only with the help of Aline Cedrac (Tara Reid), an archeologist who also happens to be his old flame. With sinister forces attempting to take over Edward's mind, can he and Aline stop them before it's too late?
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0369226/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
Alone in the Dark 2:
A witch who's lived for hundreds of years sets her sights on the soul of a young woman named Natalie (Rachel Specter). Natalie's father, Dexter (Bill Moseley), realizes what's afoot, but he'll need some help if he's to prevent the witch from stealing his daughter's soul. Dexter teams with Edward Carnby (Rick Yune) and Abner Lundberg (Lance Henriksen), both of whom have previously tangled with witches, and together they set out to rid the world of the witch's brand of black magic.

Aveline de Grandpre (Assassin’s Creed Liberation, 2012)
Serah Farron (Final Fantasy XIII-2, 2013. People might disagree with me on this one, but I really don’t think her default outfit, aka the one that most people are going to be familiar with, is anything “bad” at all.)
Clementine (The Walking Dead Season 2, 2013)
Lara Croft (Tomb Raider reboot, 2013)
Fiona (Tales from the Borderlands, 2014)
Max Caulfield (Life is Strange, 2014)
female Jesse (Minecraft Story Mode, 2014)

Kinzie (Saints Row Gat out of Hell, 2015)
The female option from Splatoon (2015)
Lorraine (The Park, 2015)
Fran Bow (Fran Bow, 2015)
Michone (The Walking Dead Michone, 2016)
Emily Kaldwin (Dishonored 2, 2016)
As you can see, there’s a lot of characters here, with a good number of them ten years or older and some even 20+ years. That doesn’t even get to customizable “blank slate" characters from games like Fallout, Saints Row, or Elder Scrolls where you can make them as sexy or modest as you want. And of course, this is by no means a complete list; I like to think I know a lot about video games, but obviously I don’t know about literally every game in existence. Pretty sure I got all the dates right, but if I didn’t, feel free to correct.
You know what? Looking at this list makes me realize how little Tumblr talks about Resident Evil and Fatal Frame, two horror game series that have more than their fair share of non-sexualized female protagonists. In fact, a lot of horror games have them. And RE is a very well known and influential series, so you can’t exactly pull the "it’s just a cult classic” excuse on that one, as well as for Silent Hill 3. It just seems like whenever Tumblr talks about female characters in horror games, they always make it seem like they’re always Ashley-esque damsels, when that couldn’t be further from the truth. What’s up with that?
Anyways, I could also go on and on about awesome non-sexualized non-protagonist female characters like The Boss, Brigid Tenenbaum, Elanor Lamb, almost all the gals from Overwatch, Chun-Li, Rosalind Lutece, Liara T'soni, Yuna (yes, I know she’s sexualized in X-2, but I still love her to death even though I prefer her X characterization as I related to her more in that one), Celes, Zelda, Billie Lurk, and much more, but I’d probably be here forever if I did that. @danguy96, @unhappy-opinions, @takashi0, @vikinglumberjack, I hope I’m not being a bother, but I don’t suppose you could spread this around since you’re all mutual that spread my original post as well.

A Escuridão (2016), Greg Mclean
Filha do Mal (2012), William Brent Bell
A Caixa (2009), Richard Kelly
Eu Sei Quem me Matou (2007), Chris Sivertson
Alone In The Dark: O Despertar do Mal (2005), Uwe Boll
