So the context is that the song that this drawing is based on is a fan made villain song for Alice in Wonderland. The artist Lydia the Bard takes songs that the heroines sing and rewrite them into villain songs. “I Only Paint in Red Now” is an original song since Alice doesn’t have a song that she sings herself. Basically it’s a what if scenario. The story behind the song is what if Alice lets the madness takes over. If you look up the song on YouTube, there is a full description and is explained better than I can right now.

Welcome to Wonderland Clover
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi, I just moved into my dorm today and was busy most of the day. I did get some of the Nick Poem drawing done, including the shading and the concept of his background, but not much. After the day I had unpacking, I was too tired to continue that piece today but I still wanted to draw. I was listening to the "I Only Paint in Red Now" Alice villain song by Lydia the Bard and "White Rabbit" by Egypt Central and thought "What about an Alice In Wonderland Au?". Well actually the thought process was more like this: let's make an au of all the soul kids having a different Disney story au, which then got me thinking about which Disney story fits which kid, which then led me to think Alice in Wonderland for Clover. I thought Clover would be a perfect fit for Alice, Flowey as that smarmy cat was obvious, Martlet as the scatterbrained rabbit fit perfectly (plus being the inciting incident for Clover falling into wonderland fits perfectly with Martlet being how Clover fell into the dunes), and Starlo as the Mad Hatter because I thought it would fit nicely with his whole losing himself in his persona and becoming mad would be interesting, plus having those playing tea parties. Ceroba as the queen of hearts was something more of a stretch to me that I still think would be very interesting, like maybe Ceroba was this cruel queen because of what happened to her husband and daughter, possibly killing any threat that comes into Wonderland to ensure that never happens again. Also, I think the whole queen and castle would be more Japanese themed to match Ceroba like maybe she is the "Empress of Hearts" rather than "Queen", maybe Mah-jongg instead of croquet, and more of a Japanese style palace rather than an English one. I do have ideas of the feisty five being playing cards based on their suits and being at Starlo's tea party, if its a tea party maybe I could make it those Lassons instead? I also had an idea of Dalv being the Caterpillar but I don't know if that would fit him, which is why I'd like to get others' thoughts on it. What do you think the others would be? We could make this into a small group project lol. I'm not gonna dive into this au much, I just wanna make silly sketches when I need a break, also I just wanted an excuse to put Clover in a cute dress, sue me. So if anyone wants to take this idea to make a comic just at least credit me (if the designs or ideas you used were mine), or @ me so I can see the lovely art.

I saw this ”Alice in wonderland villain song” on youtube, and felt inspired to make an evil wonderland Pomni.. but it eventually just turned into a mix of Wonderland Pomni and my Hearts au’s villain Pomni instead. Anything left from the song being.. well, all the red.

holly wheeler - who/what are you? an informal post about all of the holly oddities I've discovered so far.
where do I even begin with this one? I'm just going to jump into it and show you all the weird connections I've found that mostly relate to holly-el/jane, holly-alice and holly-sarah. I have no real conclusions so far so I invite everyone to take a look and share their thoughts.
oddity one: the hair
Tumblr media
All four are blonde girls, and three have pigtails or twin braids, reminiscent of rabbit ears.
oddity two: the rabbits
terry ives' home, inside what should have been jane ives' room:
Tumblr media
holly wheeler and her rabbit lite-brite:
Tumblr media
alice creel and the dead rabbit:
Tumblr media
And why the rabbits? Well, they're all a reference to Alice in Wonderland. The first rabbit in the painting in Jane's room is just literally the rabbit from AIW, fitted with a pocketwatch.
Alice in Wonderland:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just check out #whiterabbitgate for more on the two above, the song 'White Rabbit' is also connected to El and just general HNL activities.
The Rainbows:
Tumblr media
(above is the Terry Ives flashback from season two)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Holly's outfit in Season 5 is incredibly colourful and there are at least 3 different rainbow items inside her room.
The Flowers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Holly even has yellow red and blue flowers on her bicycle basket.
My questions have already been: why is Vecna/Henry seemingly interested in her enough to not only lure her but continue 'playing' with her for multiple scenes? Why is Holly suddenly relevant?
I'm also a BTVS fan, and the idea of a younger sister suddenly introduced had me thinking of Dawn. Dawn was Buffy's younger sister introduced suddenly in Season 5 (literally out of nowhere) - until it turned out that she wasn't a fully real person, but a powerful energy turned into a human that was sent to the Summers' house where they would protect her. She never existed until she was fourteen, but they all believed she had with false memories. Furthermore, she becomes the target of that season's villain which Buffy has to protect.
So then we get to Holly's room:
Tumblr media
Most notably for this post are ALF and the 'A Royal Pain' book. Let me just show you the plot summaries for both, starting with ALF:
Tumblr media
I initially thought the ALF reference was just a reference to El (and it very much could be a dual thing). But considering the strangeness.... and the parallels that are coming to light between them.
A Royal Pain:
Tumblr media
There has already been baby-switch precedent in the show. In fact it's a major theory about Jane Ives and El - that they aren't the same child. But when it's been specifically brought up, it's been in relation to the Wheelers. Karen, was your other daughter swapped in the hospital? Or something even crazier?
Tumblr media
I'll get to more when my ideas are less of a mess. But there's also something interesting @bylerposting has brought up - the way that Mike has this whole interesting out of place dialogue with El.
Tumblr media
But what if it wasn't about El - what if it was also subtext for Holly? She came into the family even though she wasn't a biological daughter. The Wheelers were like her new parents, and Nancy was like her new sister.
And there's so much more I'm thinking of but can't get to right now, like Holly with the lights and her perception of the supernatural before others sense it. I just want to get this ball rolling for real.

Twisted Wonderland & Fantasmic
When I played Twisted Wonderland for the first time in 2022, I had a near immediate prediction for where the story was going based on the Prologue. I posted a multi-part series to TikTok where I described this theory and now that we’re in Book 7, what looks to be the last major book in the main story, I’ve been practically proven right.
Because Twisted Wonderland is Fantasmic.
Tumblr media
Fantasmic is a “nighttime spectacular” found at Disneyland, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and in which Mickey Mouse goes into the world of his imagination through dreams. He dreams fantastic dreams of adventure on the open seas, of parades of musical animals, and heroes achieving their hopes and dreams. But the Villains are here too and the Evil Queen takes her chance to get Mickey while he’s vulnerable in this dreamland. She and the other villains gather together to destroy the hero once and for all- culminating in a fight between Mickey Mouse and Maleficent in her dragon form. And when Mickey is at his most scared, he remembers that this is his imagination and his dreams and he has the power to defeat evil with love and friendship.
It sounds just a little familiar, right? Yeah, we’re in the middle of all that in Book 7.
I’ll start from the beginning…
(Lots of twst theory under the cut)
NRC as Disneyland
We all know Royal Sword Academy looks like that (a Disney Parks Castle on steroids), but we don’t exactly know the layout of its campus. Night Raven College on the other hand has some bits and pieces that resemble the layout of the Disney Castle parks. It helps that there is literally a “Main Street” central walkway to the Castle which houses the main school building.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another parks reference is the location and general look of the Ramshackle Dorm. In the original concept for Main Street USA, the main entryway of all the castle parks which has some dining and lots of shopping, there was originally going to be an abandoned old house because Walt Disney believed every perfect town had one creepy looking house for the kids to scare themselves with. This eventually turned into the Haunted Mansion ride, but the original concept of the main street haunted house and Ramshackle dorm look exactly alike!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are other small elements which also bring to mind the Haunted Mansion like Grim’s name being from the title of the Haunted Mansion’s theme song, Grim Grinning Ghosts. Crowley’s raven theme, though already associated with Disney Villains, also brings to mind the ravens found throughout the ride.
Already, the setting is putting the player in the mindset of being in a Disney theme park subconsciously, but the connections to Fantasmic go deeper when we get a closer look at Ramshackle as the Prologue continues.
Ramshackle and the Mickey Mouse Shorts
There is one other Disney property Ramshackle looks like that may not be as well known to people who didn’t grow up ravenously consuming the Mickey Mouse shorts. Lonesome Ghosts is a 1937 short starring Mickey, Donald Duck, and Goofy as they play ghost hunters who were called in by a group of ghosts who wanted some mortals to mess around with. The Lonesome Ghosts house immediately brings to mind Ramshackle dorm, including the inside which is also torn up and abandoned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Ramshackle ghosts look at lot like the Lonesome Ghosts too, just without legs to give them a more traditional ghostly look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Yuu finally gets to their room, it is basically a recreation of Mickey Mouse’s room most recognized from the game Epic Mickey. But the room’s first appearance was in the 1936 short Thru the Mirror, an Alice Through the Looking Glass type story where Mickey gets transported into another world though his mirror.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He goes on a musical adventure on the other side, causing trouble the whole way. In both Epic Mickey and in Thru the Mirror, Mickey is taken to a world which is strangely familiar but also wrong. And in both stories he wakes up from this dream which turns into a nightmare.
Not to mention that this room in Twisted Wonderland is canonically connected to Mickey’s room.
We now have the second piece of the puzzle in the Twisted Wonderland story: Mickey Mouse, dreams in fantastic worlds, and nightmares.
Yuu: The Beastmaster & The Mouse
*Spoilers for Book 7 ahead*
In the Prologue, Yuu (a small but high-spirited friend) teams up with Ace (their impulsive and sometimes hot-tempered friend), Deuce (their endearingly dumb friend), and Grim (their friend who acts a lot like a pet) to defeat a blot creature and bring a replacement magestone back to Crowley. Crowley is in shock that someone finally got NRC students to work together despite the notoriously big egos of the students. He calls Yuu a “beastmaster” who can tame the students despite not being as powerful as them.
It’s foreshadowing for the events of Book 7 of course, but the Disneyland-like setting and Yuu’s connection to Mickey Mouse are all set here. Yuu, Ace, Deuce, and Grim are stand-ins for Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto in the Prologue. And Yuu’s eventual meeting with Mickey Mouse cements that, as every main character in Twisted Wonderland is a counterpart to a Disney character, Yuu is Twisted Wonderland’s Mickey Mouse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Come Book 7, Yuu wakes up in Mickey’s room from Thru the Mirror. It’s made clear when Mickey shows up and explains the adventures he got into there, but the audience knows that this place is from a dream. When the blot creatures attack, Silver rushes in, explaining that his magic is the ability to hop from dream to dream. So Yuu, Grim, and Silver slowly start gathering everyone who is currently sleeping, waking them up from their dreams (and sometimes nightmares) to defeat Malleus together.
Just like Fantasmic, Yuu and the NRC students are taking their power back because all of it is a dream and they have the real power there if they believe in themselves. But instead of the Villains teaming up to defeat Mickey, the Fantasmic story is subverted with our Twisted Mickey teaming up with the “villains” towards their common goal of saving the school and all of Twisted Wonderland.
Tumblr media
The end of Sleeping Beauty and the end of Fantasmic are the same: the hero defeats dragon Maleficent. Silver is equal parts Aurora and Prince Phillip and Yuu is Mickey. When you factor in some of the Twisted Wonderland concept art, we can expect to see Malleus’s full dragon form at the end of this book. Maleficent is killed in Sleeping Beauty and it’s unclear of her fate in Fantasmic, but since Twisted Wonderland is a twisted Fantasmic, I’m excited to see how the story gets subverted again at the end to get Malleus’ happy ending!
If you made it this far, I appreciate it! This post is a long one but I wanted to go into a little more detail than the original TikToks I posted this theory from and add bits from Book 7. If you haven’t seen Fantasmic, you can view each existing show (and some past versions) on YouTube. My favorite videos of them are below! It’s interesting to see the similarities in the stories, even if Yana Toboso didn’t actually take inspiration from it (I’d like to think she did though. She has a history of getting into research rabbit holes).
Disneyland’s Fantasmic is the original and has a full dragon animatronic for Maleficent (or... had... it exploded last year).
Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Fantasmic differs by just how many villains are involved (all of them show up to murder that mouse) and the newest version has a lot more Disney heroes present.
Tokyo Disneysea’s Fantasmic has some of the most impressive light effects and floats and a really nice take on the magic mirror and Maleficent.

magikey au by @quartztwst
The ever so popular White Queen!
Alice Littel received her magic key when she was quite young at the age of 7! It was quite a peculiar moment for her, and now here she is at the age of 16! Quite a veteran magikey user, is she not?
(More info below!!)
“Don’t worry! I have you in my sight- is that an anvil? …Ah, sure. Whatever.”
Abilities:
Down the Rabbit Hole (support) : Alice can be quite helpful with her first ability. She can summon large “rabbit holes” that allows her to transport anyone or anything to the other side of it. It is similar to portals in such regards. Of course, it can be quite chaotic and disastrous (plus even dizzying) if more rabbit holes were to be used, so Alice uses two unless absolutely necessary.
The Rule is Jam To-morrow and Jam Yesterday — but Never Jam To-day (support) : Shortened to “Jam To-morrow,” it relates to the pocket watch dangling from Alice’s waist. Alice can turn back time or fast forward it. The catch is that Alice can only turn it back to a certain point in either tomorrow or yesterday, she can never turn back time if not a day had been rewinded or forwarded. Only Alice has memories of these time rewinds and fast forwards. So she seems quite mad each time.
Everlasting Mad Tea Party* (offense) : This ability can only happen if there’s magikey or magisword users present. A long table with plates and a tea set are summoned. Those helping Alice are considered to be guests while Alice is the host. The villains? Those people are the main course and are shrunk into the tea pot. It’s almost ritualistic with each person having to sing what they are bringing to the tea party, the food item being summoned around the tea pot. Once the song is over, the tea pot fills. It is meant to render the opponent unconscious.
*It is similar to the cake song scene in Madoka Magica essentially!
Status:
Mental/Emotional Strength: ★★★★★ (She’s quite strong. It’s hard to break her down especially considering that she possibly has rewinded or fast-forwarded time who knows how many times. She has to be strong for herself even if others perceived her as “mad”)
Physical Strength: ★★★☆☆ (She built some strength over the years! Not too much, but just decent. Most physical attacks get rabbit hole’d anyways)
Stamina: ★★★★☆ (Once again, she has built a lot of stamina over the years of being a magikey user! Better than her strength, her stamina is quite high and she can last quite a bit too since she knows how to manage it)
Strategy: ★★★★★ (Her abilities are all about strategy, so she does have to be strategic. She thinks first before acting, and if she doesn’t? She’ll just restart)
Strengths: Due to being a magikey users for over 9 years, Alice is quite knowledgeable about a lot of things. She can easily support other magikey users and can prolong enemies until more allies arrive.
Weaknesses: She needs to have allies. She cannot go solo and she can only rewind or fast-forward so much time until she finally breaks.
Design Notes:
Alice’s outfit is based on the cover of Alice’s Adventures Through Wonderland that is used by the Gutenberg E-Book Project
White Queen is in reference to the fact Alice becomes the white queen at the end of the chess match in Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There
All the skills are quotes are references to actual things in the novels about Alice written by Lewis Carroll
Alice’s silhouette is meant to vaguely look like a rabbit due to Alice have more White Rabbit-like skills
Alice’s magical girl color is blue not because of Alice in Wonderland but because of the usual tropes the blue magical girl has! I wanted her to seem elegant too.
Trivia:
I’d like to believe Alice is usually very high up in ranking due to both her aesthetic and personality. Plus her powers are quite overpowered when paired with the right people
Alice has paired up with many magikey users, but none are permanent. Most of them are for convenience-sake, but she doesn’t mind really.
Alice is only known to a select few of people. So I will say this here, Alice is transfem maverique and goes by she/he pronouns. In this au, Alice’s parents are divorced and her mother won custody of both Alice, Lorina, and Frederick.
