Alex was born and raised in Brazil with his younger sister, Camila. They lived on a cattle ranch with his maternal grandparents and he was very close to his family. When he was thirteen years old, his grandfather died and shortly thereafter they lost the ranch. It was then his family moved to the States, settling in Dallas, Texas.

In Texas, Alex struggled. He struggled with the culture shock, but mostly he struggled with English. He fell behind in most of his classes. The ranch where his father ended up getting a job was the only place that he felt comfortable and he spent most of his time there.

At the suggestion of one of his teachers, Alex got into theatre and it was there that his language skills and his confidence grew. By the time he was a senior in high school, he was not only getting the lead in his school productions but in the local community theatres as well.

When it came time to find a college, Alex struggled with the idea of leaving home. Family had always been so important and he hated the idea of leaving his father's ranch, his safe space. After viewing a few different schools, he ended up in the theatre program at NYU. Within two years, it became apparent to Alex and his family that even with the scholarship they couldn't afford to pay for his school, especially with his sister graduating and he dropped out and went back to Texas.

Back in Texas, Alex worked a few odd jobs to save money so that he could go back to school. He continued to act in community theatre but he started to realize that instead of pursing a career in acting, he wanted to become a teacher to help kids the way that he was helped by theatre.

After a few years and a discussion with the teacher that had changed his life by suggesting theatre, he ended up in Turtle Bay, South Carolina attending their Alma Mater. He's only been in town a few months and doesn't know many people yet. He works at Whole Foods and is majoring in education with a specialty in theatre and ESL. He hasn't visited the local ranch yet, but he wants to stop by and get to know he owner and is trying to fight the intrusive thoughts to just sneak in.

Naomi hadn’t expected to meet anyone going out to the bar tonight - actually, she’d been expecting to go on a date but that hadn’t panned out and after a few glasses of wine had stopped feeling sorry for herself and struck up a conversation with the other solo patron sitting near her at the bar. “I’m personally offended that you didn’t get me to be your fake date.” She teased, really playing it up after he told her a riveting story. A bold statement considering they’d only just met about twenty minutes ago.

The Morning After - The Year the Oscars Got it (mostly) Right Edition

The 92nd Academy Awards kicked off looking an awful lot like the Grammy’s with a splashy musical performance by Janelle Monae and Billy Porter, the first of a night’s performances/presenters/commentary designed to include all the groups it seemingly excluded in it’s nominees list. Meant to poke fun at themselves or a gesture delivered a little too overt and a little too late? Either way, I think in the end, the artistry of the South Korean-made foreign language film that swept the night’s awards won one back for every group that was overlooked.

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite took home awards for Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature, Best Director, and Best Picture, making it the first South Korean film to win in all these categories.  To do it all in a single evening is astounding.

Here’s a look at all the winners of the night:

Most deserving win of the night!!!  Of course many of us hoped Parasite could be the underdog to win it all, but a more realistic prediction to win would be 1917. Thrilled to be wrong on this one. 

Also, while I liked 1917 (more for its execution than story), even if Parasite had not been in the mix, I would have been rooting for The Irishman to win.

I am also in full agreement with this category and with Renee sweeping this category this awards season as well.

Again, no question this was the right winner. If only every win didn’t mean we’d have to roll the dice to see what kind of acceptance speech we’d have to endure... While I didn’t appreciate being chastised for adding milk to my coffee, Joaquin closed out his remarks by quoting his late brother River and I thought that was beautiful.

Another category that I thought the Academy would give to Sam Mendes, but nonetheless put my bets on Bong Joon-ho.  Some big competition in this category (except Phillips... sorry, I’m not saying he’s bad, but he has yet to prove to me he’s a contender).

Talk about a year of forgettable film songs. I think I left the room for every one of these performances except Elton’s. Did I miss anything?

As part of the montage for this category, the orchestra accompanies with each film’s original score. This segment, as they proudly pointed out, was being conducted a female for the first time in Oscar history (I’d like to shallowly add that she was also wearing the most amazing gold jacket to do it!). Now I don’t know if she also arranged it or whether she was just conducting, but I have to say, I don’t think the arrangement did the scores any justice whatsoever. 

Luckily they were not being judged on this particular performance, and Hildur Guonadottir once again took home the accolade for Joker. I agree with this win. Little Women and 1917 also had impressive scores.  Marriage Story didn’t particularly catch my attention, and while Star Wars’ themes will always be among my all time favourites, The Rise of Skywalker wasn’t particularly outstanding out of the saga.

Best International Feature Film:

Got this prediction correct, while not the most obvious frontrunner perhaps, a lot of subtle effort was put in to transform cast into their characters.

Visual Effects:

It’s naive of me, but seeing 1917 win for Visual Effects almost takes away from my appreciation of the film in some ways because in my head, I’d still like to think of all films outside of fantasy and sci-fi as largely real. I know it’s not the case and that even your average period drama is created largely with effects these days, it can’t help but ruin the magic a little.

Also I had guessed Avengers: Endgame would win.

And we all think that The Irishman is on this list for de-aging technologies alone right?

Film Editing:

This entire list is on par with each other I think, with Ford v Ferrari just edging out the rest. Also the editing is what made the film so dynamic, there was little room for a bad cut, whereas the others might have little bit more room to err.

Many might disagree but I think Little Women should have been considered in this category.  The film’s editing choices was one of its main criticisms, but I think it actually made the film much more dynamic and differentiated it from previous adaptations.  (If only they’d used a bit more of The Irishman’s aging/de-aging effects)

Um ok, if you’re going to split the sound categories between two films.  I would’ve said Ford v Ferrari for both.

Agree. Hopefully everyone who wanted to see this film caught it in theatres, the sound was a huge contributing factor to the enjoyment of this film.

Little surprise when Laura Dern swept this category, even though I maintain she wasn’t better than the rest. That said, I’m not sure who I would pick in her place, I say share the love between Laura Dern, Scarlett Johansson, and Florence Pugh (yes, I just said Amy March should get an oscar... I see the irony of this too)

Best Documentary Short Subject:

I didn’t see any of the shorts this year, my bad.  The winner sounds hella interestering!

Best Documentary Feature:

“American Factory,” Julia Reichert, Steven Bognar — (WINNER) “The Cave,” Feras Fayyad  “The Edge of Democracy,” Petra Costa  “For Sama,” Waad Al-Kateab, Edward Watts  “Honeyland,” Tamara Kotevska, Ljubo Stefanov 

I only saw American Factory and The Cave and I actually liked The Cave better.  That said I felt strongly that American Factory had the edge, for starters it was backed by the Obamas’ production company. I didn’t love American Factory but I do feel it’s a timely piece that shows two sides of the story, inevitable prejudices based on what we’ve become conditioned to physically, mentally, socially, and also how important it is that we try to overcome or build a bridge to find solutions for the greater good. 

Costume Design:

For a historical drama, I really didn’t find the costumes of Little Women to be that spectacular (I’m having visions of The Age of Innocence when you say Best Costume), though a part of me knows the period films win more often than not. While I think Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is strong contender, Jojo Rabbit should have won.

Yes! Once Upon a Time was a bit overrated (sorry Quentin) but this was one category where it really deserved to win, from the western sets, film studio lots, to the wardrobe and streets of the 60′s, lots of fun and spirit captured in the production design.

I love that Taika Waititi is an Oscar winner. Also shouts to Greta Gerwig for making Little Women almost tolerable in her script! The Two Popes could not have been an easy adaptation either. Now can a comic book expert please tell me, how much of Joker is really from existing stories in comics, and how much was filled in by the writers? I understand why it was an adapted screenplay, but I feel like material like this almost completely open to interpretation and could easily be written anew as an original screenplay.

Overall, if Brad Pitt sweeping this category means I get to hear at least one great speech per awards, then I’m ok with this. My personal ranking:

1) Al Pacino, 2) Joe Pesci, 3) Tom Hanks, 4) Brad Pitt, 5) Anthony Hopkins.  I had to debate over Pacino and Pesci’s performances, I feel like this is one of the best problems in the world.

Prior to the start of the show, I made a mess of notes about who I thought would win, who I thought should win, and shared my Oscar Pool Picks which were based on a mix of the two... My Oscar pool are an extremely knowledgeable bunch, and with 18/24, it only put me in a 3-way tie for third place (there were also three winners who split the winnings), I need to move back to the baby leagues!

My personal top 3 moments during the Awards Ceremony were:

1) Every time Parasite won an award - Give this man all the statues he wants! lol

2) Billie Eilish’s rendition of Yesterday (I wish this was an actual recorded track so I could play it over and over)

3) When Eminem took the stage at the end of a montage to perform “Lose Yourself” and my phone exploded with all these messages of “ Whaaat is happening???” LOL! Believe me friends, I was as confused as you were.

Kemarin, Minggu (22/8/2021) Chelsea bertandang ke Emirates Stadium pada pertandingan pekan kedua EPL 2021/22. Melawan sang tuan rumah Arsenal, The Blues berhasil menang dengan skor 2-0.

Berkat kemenangan ini, Chelsea berhasil mengisi posisi teratas klasemen sementara Premier League, sedangkan Arsenal kini berada di posisi 19 usai gagal mendapatkan poin dalam dua laga perdana mereka.

Dalam pertandingan ini, Thomas Tuchel memberikan kesempatan bagi Romelu Lukaku untuk bermain sebagai starter. Di partai debut keduanya bersama Chelsea itu, sang striker turut menyumbangkan satu gol ke gawang Bernd Leno.

Namun, dalam urusan mencetak gol saat debut, Lukaku bukanlah orang pertama yang melakukan hal tersebut untuk Chelsea. Berikut kami sudah merangkum beberapa pemain Chelsea yang mampu mencetak gol pada laga debut mereka Simaklah informasinya dibawah ini.

Gelandang serang legenda Portugal yang memiliki darah Brasil tersebut, merupakan salah satu aktor utama dalam keberhasilan tim sekelas Porto menjadi juara Liga Champions musim 2003/04.

Chelsea yang saat itu dipimpin oleh Solari pada musim 2008/09, mempercayai Deco menjalani debutnya bersama The Blues yang saat itu bertemu dengan Portsmouth. Dalam laga tersebut, Deco berhasil mencetak gol perdananya bersama The Blues setelah melakukan tendangan jarak jauh yang gagal ditepis oleh David James.

Gol tersebut menjadi gol terakhir Chelsea pada laga tersebut dan sukses menjadi kemenangan dengan skor 4-0. Selain mencetak gol, ia juga memberikan satu assist untuk Anelka yang saat itu menjadi striker utama The Blues yang berhasil mencetak angka lewat sundulan miliknya.

Sebagai catatan, Deco, bersama Chelsea, bermain hingga tahun 2010 dan berhasil membukukan enam gol dan lima assist setelah bermain sebanyak 58 kali bersama Chelsea sebelum akhirnya hengkang dengan status bebas transfer ke Fluminense dan menjadi klub terakhir yang ia bela sebelum akhirnya pensiun.

Gelandang didikan Real Madrid ini, pernah bersinar bersama The Blues, dan membantu menjadi juara Liga Champions pada musim 2011/12. Gelandang yang berjaya pada masanya tersebut memberikan debut yang fantastis dengan mencetak gol perdananya bersama The Blues.

Debutnya bersama Chelsea, saat itu ia jalani saat dirinya dipercaya menggantikan Malouda, di menit 67 yang saat itu mempertemukan Chelsea dengan Norwich pada 2011 silam. Mata berhasil mencetak gol di menit-menit akhir dan membantu Chelsea meraih poin pertama pada lanjutan Premier League musim 2011/12.

Mata bisa dibilang merupakan pemain spesial Chelsea, bagaimana tidak, dalam pertandingan musim perdananya, ia berhasil mempersembahkan trofi Liga Champions, serta FA cup pada saat itu. Di mata fans Chelsea, Juan Mata merupakan pemain yang sangat spesial, tetapi ia memutuskan untuk bergabung dengan Manchester United pada 2014 silam hingga saat ini ia masih menjadi pemain aktif Setan Merah.

Willian

Pemain yang diboyong Chelsea dari Anzhi Machakala ini, berhasil membuat fans mencintai dirinya selama beberapa tahun. pada laga perdananya menghadapi Basel di Liga Champions musim 2013/14 merupakan hal yang cukup pahit baginya karena ia harus mengalami kekalahan pada laga perdananya dengan skor 2-1.

Namun, beralih ke liga Inggris, Willian berhasil membantu Chelsea memenangkan pertandingan melawan Norwich dengan mencetak satu gol pada laga tersebut.

Willian diturunkan dari bangku cadangan dan menjadi pengganti Juan Mata yang saat itu mengisi posisi sayap kanan. Ia berhasil tampil baik usai dipercayai Mou bermain pada menit 81. Willian berhasil melesatkan golnya di menit 86 dan sukses mengunci kemenangan Chelsea dengan skor 3-1.

Diego Costa

Sebelum nama Romelu Lukaku melejit, Diego Costa saat itu menjadi salah satu striker paling mematikan milik Chelsea. Bersama The Blues, ia sukses berkontribusi dengan memberikan 58 gol dan 24 assist dari 120 pertandingan yang ia mainkan bersama Chelsea.

Debut Costa di liga Inggris bersama Chelsea saat itu terjadi pada 2014 silam. Costa yang bermain penuh sebagai striker utama Chelsea berhasil mempersembahkan gol, melalui sepakan kaki kirinya ke gawang Burnley.

Bukan hanya itu, tiga dilaga selanjutnya, Costa juga mempersembahkan gol secara terus menerus, yaitu, satu gol melawan Leicester, dua gol melawan Everton, dan mengakhirinya dengan hattrick melawan Swansea.

Sebagai striker, ia memang produktif dalam urusan mencetak gol, tetapi beberapa kali ia sering mengalami cedera yang membuatnya tak mampu bermain dengan sebaik dulu. Saat ini Costa dikontrak oleh klub Atletico Mineiro setelah sempat berstatus tanpa klub karena dilepas oleh Atletico Madrid.

Winger yang saat ini bermain untuk Lazio, pernah menjadi salah satu andalan Chelsea sebagai pengganti Hazard dan Willian. Pedro melakukan debutnya bersama Chelsea di Liga Inggris pada 2015 silam yang saat itu bertemu dengan West Bromwich.

Gol tersebut ia cetak setelah melakukan operan one two dengan Eden Hazard yang sukses ia cetak menjadi gol setelah melewati beberapa bek West Brom dan mengolongi seorang Jonas Olsson.

Tidak habis sampai situ ia juga berkontribusi dalam gol kedua yang dicetak Costa. Pedro memberikan assist dengan memberikan umpan pendek yang berhasil diselesaikan oleh Diego Costa.

Tidak banyak yang mengetahui bahwa seorang Pato pernah berseragam Chelsea. Striker Brasil yang pernah dicap sebagai the next Ronaldo de Lima tersebut, pernah menjadi salah satu striker Chelsea pada tahun 2016.

Bermain sebagai pemain cadangan, Pato dipercayai menggantikan Loic Remy pada laga melawan Aston Villa 2016 silam. Pato berhasil mencetak satu gol melalui tendangan penalti dan membuat Chelsea berhasil menang dengan skor 4-0.

Dalam penampilannya, meskipun sudah tidak secepat dirinya saat berada di AC Milan dan belum terkena badai cedera, ia berhasil membuat beberapa penonton terhibur berkat skill dan keterampilannya mengolah kulit bundar di lapangan.

Alvaro Morata

Sebelum menjelma menjadi salah satu striker yang melempem saat ini, Morata pernah menjadi striker yang cukup mengejutkan untuk Chelsea. Tampil perdana di Premier League justru Morata tampil gahar dengan menciptakan satu gol dan satu assist.
