Thinking about violins, The Whispering Star (2015) by Sion Sono and Lee Young-ae in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005). Read this mostly in a daze and loved it so much. Was nothing like what I thought it would be — intertwined cosmic tales with fantasy elements, destiny, trauma, love. At its core it’s about finding belonging, finding your passion and your person. I probably sobbed a few times, listened to Paganini and Alexandra Streliski’s music on repeat and yearned for a nice warm donut. I get fuzzy warm feelings when I think about this book ☁️💫

Just to preface this, fairies in gaelic (and I think more broadly celtic) folklore are mischievous, deadly, and not to be trifled with. I included some songs that sound light and airy like 'normal' fairies and then a few heavier Gàidhlig songs about the daoine sìth/sìthichean (fairies)

🎧—What would the soundtrack be like?

Score vibes: soft/atmospheric piano. Ludovico Einaudi, Joep Beving, Jeremy Weinglass, John True, Alexandra Streliski (who I just found out will be in concert in Montreal Jan '24!!!!), Juo, George Winston...

Soundtrack: My "trailer song" is "It's All So Incredibly Loud" by Glass Animals. Other songs/artists I'd love to see include Depeche Mode, Sufjan Stevens, "No Rain" by Blind Melon, London Grammar, "Raining in June" by Olive Klug, Gordon Lightfoot, alt-J, Regina Spektor, "Downtown" by Majical Cloudz, "Hard Place" by H.E.R., "Eventide" by Ásgeir, "Blue Moon" by Beck, "Nitrous Gas" by Frightened Rabbit... I could go on for a while lol.

🎬—Who would you cast as your characters?

Ahhhhh, the hardest question of all time. I have such specific images of Jeff and Gabriel in my mind that I've never seen any actor that I find captures them well physically, but I'll try to provide some actors/models with the closest general vibes I could find:

Gabriel (note: this was HARD): (from left to right) Lucas Jade Zumann for younger G (like... not exactly, but he was by far the closest I could find), Brennan Clost for older G (see previous parenthesis).

Jeff: (From left to right) Gavin Casalegno for younger J, Charlie Kennedy (model) for older J. I'd say Gavin is closer though.

Other characters (from left to right): I always thought Nana from After School could have Daphne vibes if she looked more grunge. I could easily see a slightly older Amybeth McNulty playing Jenna. Always thought Matt Jensen kind of looks like Gabriel's dad.

There are a bunch more I could find but I'll leave it at that for now.
