(Holl skates the puck behind the net, but Sharks forward Alexander Wennberg #21 forechecks aggressively, skating in close and cutting him off with his stick. Sharks forward Will Smith #2 approaches along the same side of the boards. Holl tries to spin away from Wennberg to turn back but falls in the back right corner of the ice, behind the net. Smith immediately skates to the slot, right in front of Husso, and Wennberg passes the puck to him between the legs of Wings forward Andrew Copp #18. Smith shoots low middle and Husso makes the save with his pads, but Smith collects the rebound and spin with the puck, protecting it from the stick of Wings forward Alex DeBrincat #93.)

HAHN: Wennberg in front! Smith with a grade-A chance!

(Smith passes the puck to Sharks defenseman Jan Rutta #84, who skates up from the blue line, just barely into the high slot. He is wide open: four of the Wings skaters are clustered in front of Smith and Holl is still in the corner, having just recovered his balance from shoving Wennberg. He takes a wrist shot through the sticks of two Wings players who fail to block the shot but do block the line of sight of Husso, and the puck sails between his blocker and pad, and into the net.)

HAHN: Rutta scores! Jan Rutta, just a minute forty-five in and the Sharks lead one–nothing!
