Well, it seems that this was an episode in which I finally could recover some of my lost hope. We’ll see how long it take to lose it again. No, seriously, overall I found it a good episode, but mostly, I think it was an episode in which we could see a little more of Steve, and therefore, in which Alex had the opportunity to show a little more himself and his interpretation. Yes, it’s true, it was not too much but it was pretty good.
And although thank God, (the writers actually) we have much to talk about this week interpretively speaking, I’ll start talking about what was inevitable … those long legs that ends in that cute ass. I think it’s not even needed to talk write right now, the view is more than enough to rate this scenes of our beloved Uncle Steve.
And well, sorry, I needed to add this ;)
Steve (Speaking to Grace about her father): You know, it scares me to think what that guy’s gonna be like when he actually is a grumpy old man.
I would be scared too, Steve.
Danny discovers Steve left alone his beloved and adored Grace for a few minutes to go after his stolen car and it seems that anger leads Danny to say really nasty things. Yes Danny, you are overreacting. And no Chin. You should not suggest such ideas!!
Danny: You obsess over a death trap on wheels. Steve: You know what? That car is a classic. Mind yourself. Danny: Oh, please. With the sales pitch. It’s a classic piece of junk, that car. Steve: You know what that car means to me. Danny: Uh-huh. Steve: Do you not? Danny: All right, don’t do that, okay? You do something wrong, and then somehow you turn it around and I’m the bad guy. Steve: You are the bad guy. You can’t see how you’re the bad guy in this? Danny: No, I don’t. Chin: You guys still seeing that therapist? … All right, you need a few more sessions.
So yes, in my point of view, Danny is overreacting. And what’s worse, he’s behaving like a fool with his partner knowing as he knows what that car means to Steve, and making him feel guilty about leaving Grace alone for a few minutes in a place where apparently all is absolutely normal and quiet. But I guess these things are what make this relationship so special, isn’t it? Yes Danny, you really know how to comfort Steve (Trying to be ironic, I got it?? No?? Bahh!). I think Steve very clearly shows his feelings in this scene, offering, as he usually does, a much more logical and less hysterical view of reality. But despite that, Steve is also annoying. His face, his gestures, his voice betray him. Yes Steve, you feel like you’re giving blows against a wall, right? As Steve himself said, Danny trivialized Steve’s suffering. That’s not something that a friend, a partner, a brother, should do.
Unexpectedly, this week’s case, leading Steve and the team to an old friend, Paul Delano. Hospital’s scene between Paul, Chin and Steve was one of the highlights of this episode. Much anger contained in that room. And there they are, all Steve’s weapons ready to attack. Head up, threatening hands, neck vein pointing to its target… Delano takes about zero seconds to soften his heart with Steve and Chin. How he says… their “style is as charming as ever”. It was good to see this week how Steve had the opportunity to work with both Chin as Grover, in addition to Danny. Always enriching.
And ohhh!! A McGyver moment!!! I was missing this a lot!! The Marquis appears, half destroyed. Steve was very angry to see his car in those conditions. I love seeing him angry, and I loved seeing how Steve manages to surprise Pua with his ingenious methods. I think they could create a spin-off… “The Incredible Adventures of McG”. Steve could travel around the world solving cases with only the help of the objects that keep in the pockets of his cargo pants. Sounds good, right??
Time for a blah blah blah in the headquarters. But… for reasons…
And the required BAMF time… Steve saving Danny’s ass, several times. “You are welcome, again”. I like pretty much when Steve has the opportunity to make use of his knowledge as SEAL. And he had the opportunity this week. It’s like he’s a step ahead of the rest, in anticipation of any trap, to any situation. Steve is in his element and that’s obvious in this scene. I just love it! And he’s soooo damn hot!!
Yes. I.JUST.LOVE.IT!
Back to the headquarters. Again, for more reasons…
And OMG!! What a great surprise!! A suspect with a child, his grandson. Steve and Danny. Danny prefers to stay with the suspect and Steve stays with the child. Wonderful change of roles. For once, Danny didn’t act like SuperDad and Steve like the bad cop. Good to see from time to time, because Steve has amply demonstrated that those times when he was not able to “contact” with his more tender side, have left behind. More of this, please.
Alex, (the suspect, not our Alex ;) ) is shown as a very tough guy. Steve tries to make him reconsider. Despite his anger about the car, the case… it seems that Steve is trying to be in a “good vibes mode”. But everything has a limit. The smartass tone used by the suspect looks set to rile up Steve (in a serene way, which is curious, though adequate to Steve’s mood we’re seeing lately). And just then, Steve gets a call from Kono who brings hope to catch the suspect. A half smile on his face must be enough to intimidate Alex (yes, the suspect, not our Alex). The guy was a jerk, and a murderer, which is an explosive combination. So Steve was happy to settle the case. Satisfaction was evident on his face.
And I leave the best for last. Of course. You know what? I remembered that episode in which after Billy’s death and with an uncertain future, Steve recommends Cath start a new project, a new adventure, something new. The relationship started in this episode between Steve and Nahale could be something like that for me. And now I’ll explain why.
When Steve discovered that the thief of his car had been found, he seemed ready to fly into a rage, but after looking at the eyes of that boy, all the anger was gone. Nahale. Dead mom. Father in prison. Steve’s heart broken. End of the first act. I think from that point, Steve knows he has to do something with that boy. He starts with something simple, clothes, food. A shoulder to lean on.
The boy had escaped from a shelter. Take months living on the street, and it was the first time he stole. He was hungry. Steve didn’t need to know more. That boy needed help. And Steve was willing to help. And I don’t know if this story is going to have a good future. Lenkov has announced the return of Nahale, but I don’t know how much he will be present in Steve’s life. But I think he comes at an appropriate time. I see how Nahele can become Steve’s project. And when I say project, I say this with the deepest sense of the word. It’s clear that Steve is not at its best. Although the show didn’t want to talk about it, it’s obvious in every look that Alex gives to his character. He has his ohana, yes, but deep down, he is lonely. No Cath, no Doris, there are many issues in his life I’m sure that don’t let him sleep peacefully. And Nahale can be a turning point in his life. May be someone to guide, to teach. But he can also be someone to help Steve rediscover the kind side of life. And of course, it can be an unbeatable way for the acting skills of Alex to be shown. I’m in! I love thinking about what this could mean for Steve, and I’m sad at the same time because this could not mean anything.
Steve: I’m gonna make you the deal of a lifetime. All right? This is what’s gonna happen. First, we’re gonna go to all the body shops, get back all the parts you sold off. And then you and me, we’re gonna put my car back together exactly the way it was before you took it. As long as you keep your nose clean, this complaint stays in my drawer, unsigned. You understand? Nahale: Yes. Thank you. Steve: Don’t thank me yet. I got eyes and ears all over this island. If I hear one incident, you step out of line one time for the smallest thing, I don’t care what it is, I’m gonna find you. And I’m not gonna be the nice guy sitting across the desk from you today. Do you understand? Nahale: Yes. Thank you. Steve: This is your second chance, Nahale, all right? Could be… could be your last chance. Don’t blow it, buddy. Take advantage of it. Nahale: I will, sir. I promise. I won’t let you down. You’ll see. Steve: All right.
Well, I should not get too excited, I learned that I should not do it, but I see so many good things that could start here… we’ll see. For now, I can only emphasize the good opportunities that this kid brought Alex in this episode. It’s always exciting to see Alex work with feelings on his face, gestures, is something I never tire of admiring. It’s something I want to see in every single episode. Please.
A happy ending, an “Ohana ending” is always a good ending. But it is even more so when Steve is satisfied. And he’s satisfied. And handsome. Very handsome!!
And well, I’ll agree with Danny this time (only this time!!).
Danny: You know what you are? Steve: This should be good. Danny: Uh… you’re a-a half-baked cookie. Soft, gooey on the inside. Kid should be in juvenile hall and you go and you give him a job. That’s why I love you, man. You, uh… you like fixing broken toys, right? Steve: Yeah. I guess I do.
Now we just need someone to fix Steve’s heart, broken after all what he has suffered lately. I offer voluntary! Two weeks until a new episode. See you then!!
