Alessius Atius is my name- perhaps not a name of wide prestige, but honest and venerable nonetheless. It is my hope that my peers amidst the Blades will attest to these claims, as the things documented in this book are frankly unbelievable, and I fear my solemn insistence on the truth and accuracy of the fantastical events recorded within will not be so much as to sway the average citizen to belief.

At the Arcane University I spent my early years compiling a detailed bestiary of Tamriel’s supernatural, complete with theories of their nature and origins, which resulted in more than just the attention of the Emperor’s most elite order; instilled within me was a tremendous respect for all that has been glimpsed, but never grasped. It was through these glimpses that I crafted my understanding of the world: her grand, unending enigma.

However, that is all a slight digression. The main subject of this writing is centered upon the following event: on the 28th of Evening Star, 3E 344, a great portion of a village on the Western Rise was swallowed by a sinkhole. Many were lost in the inexplicable devastation, and more would perish before relief efforts began. Amidst the misery was I—the emperor's solemn and faithful agent, who had been tasked just weeks earlier to investigate a series of strange ongoings. While my heart bled for the sundered village, I was overcome with a grim sense that this was not an ending. Rather, it was the opening chapter of a new, unexplained world.

Alessius: There’s absolutely no way it’s political subterfuge. I think it’s either a surviving group of long forgotten peoples OR perhaps even the ghosts of a group of long forgotten peoples.
