Perdiz Roja | Red-legged Partridge | Perdiu Roja (Alectoris rufa)
If you saw me skipping yesterday's blog, no you didn't. I actually completely forgot until about 2 and half in the morning when I was already trying to fall asleep and I couldn't be bothered to grab the phone just to write. Nothing much happened, but I did get a good amount of progress on the gloves, though I spent a horrible amount of time backtracking a stitch and then fixing a layout error... Crosstitching at 1 in the morning is not too good of an idea.
I had a normal-ish day at work for the most part, until at the end we had an incident. I feel really stressed about going back to work, I am seriously so burnt out with it and new things just keep piling up.
If that wasn't enough I wrote to the organizer again because I have nothing official signed yet and I can't do any preparation if I leave. I can't notify my workplace I'm quitting, I can't start the residency registration, I can't look into transportation. I feel super stuck. I asked them if they needed anything from me to finish formalizing the proccess and I just got told we would call tomorrow morning so. Yay 🥲 Not to be a catastrophist but to send me an email calling through the phone is not needed so I'm already expecting bad news. Idk what to do if this doesn't go ahead, I was looking so much forward to this. Maybe it's just that I have to go there later than what I expected but I really wanted to leave asap. I don't know, it's so frustrating!! It feels like at every step I have to overcome 500 difficulties. I wish things could just go well and streamlined for once. Sighs.
I've been thinking abt taking a small escapee somewhen this weekend to go watch gulls because I haven't birded "seriously" in what feels like months now but this weekend is going to be complicated. I (finally) ring this Sunday and I got a butchered T shot today so I don't know how I feel about limping through the mountains. We'll see how I wake up tomorrow.
Picture was taken one of the last times I went to the ringing station. This guy kept walking in front of the car and my station mate and friend told me to get out the camera, but I couldn't get a good photo because I initially tried to take it from inside the car instead of leaning out the window. I felt so silly when I realized... To be fair I had never taken a picture from the car because I don't drive myself and my father doesn't want to come to bird with me, so I have never been in the situation before. Still I felt a bit embarrassed. Apparently everyone who birds does it from the car pretty often.

The red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa) is a gamebird in the pheasant family Phasianidae of the order Galliformes, gallinaceous birds. It is sometimes known as French partridge, to distinguish it from the English or grey partridge. The genus name is from Ancient Greek alektoris a farmyard chicken, and rufa is Latin for red or rufous

A Yuletide Feathursday
During this Christmastide and on the last #Feathursday of the year, it seems appropriate to end 2021 not with a partridge in a pear tree, but rather with a couple of partridges in a woodpile! The pair shown here are a couple of Red-legged Partridges (Alectoris rufa) as painted by British bird artist Terance James Bond, and reproduced in his 1988 book Birds, The Paintings of Terance James Bond, published in Cambridge, England, by the Lutterworth Press.
The Red-legged Partridge is a continental bird that was permanently introduced into Great Britain as a gamebird in the 18th century, and is often referred to in Britain as the “French Partridge” or the “Frenchman” to distinguish it from the slightly smaller Grey or English Partridge (Perdix perdix) that is native to both the islands and the continent. Bond writes:
Despite the brilliant colouring and very handsome appearance of the Red-legged Partridge, it is extremely difficult to see against a background of arable farmland or autumn leaves. On more than one occasion I have very nearly suffered a minor heart attack as a pair of birds, that had been dust-bathing by this very log pile, exploded away in a whirr of wings from my feet as I walked through the meadow.
We are also quite enamored of Bond’s depiction of the woodpile. Be sure to click on the images to see the exquisite details in the renderings.
