So I'd like a couple more chairs for around my table, and there's a stand of young Alders that really should be thinned, so I was like, I bet I could make one of those rough hewn chair things (yes I know red alder is a softer wood and not generally used for furniture, but this would be a learning opportunity, leave me alone), so I did a web search to look at what others have done, and this popped up:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2c9949fe68f778f1eb89f892e63f8624/173c8d69de54773f-b8/s640x960/c9ce14b41773cf45c35d3ff1804067915e8aa87a.jpg)
I'm sorry, what? $500 dollars for a simple chair? Apparently I should get into carpentry (and marketing).
Of course, now I've got to try and I'll probably end up eating my words, but damn.

["-- what was that noise?" Alder wonders aloud just as he hits post, not quite realizing the speech to text only barely catches his words. It was something like a clatter and a creak further off in the house. Anthea and Concordia are accounted for, Ryuki is accounted for, N is..
Oh, shit.
He scrambles for the back door, frantic as he weaves through the halls and furniture. If he loses this kid- ideals, it's all over, N would get hurt out in those woods, all those wild pokémon that want nothing to do with humans roaming around- why can't this kid just stay in one place? Why does he have to be so difficult? He turns the corner just in time to see N standing with the back door peeked open, peering out, the child lock dismantled on the floor, and while it's a relief to see he hasn't made it out the door yet, Alder can't help but let all of today's frustration and panic boil to the surface in one shout- "NATURAL!"
He scares N so bad the boy drops down with a yelp, landing on his rear. He cowers as he looks back at Alder in shock. The door swings open a bit wider to reveal Odyssey was already blocking his path from the outside, his wings outstretched.
Alder is out of breath, panting. He can't believe he.. N is looking at him terrified, hands clapped over his ears, eyes as wide as saucers. "N, I-- I'm sorry. I panicked. Just get away from the door, please.." The house is suddenly suffocatingly quiet. He's sure everyone heard him.
N doesn't move at all. He's hunched over, trembling, hands still over his ears, so Odyssey nudges him across the floor enough for the moth to get inside himself. While Alder starts to move to shut the door- the air outside is cold and biting, and he doesn't know whether or not N will split for the trees at any second- N curls up a little tighter around himself.
He closes the door with a loud click. Deadbolts it. Upon closer inspection, a fork had been used to dislodge the interlocking ridges on the child lock, cracking it open. It's impressively resourceful, but that's hardly Alder's main focus. He's practically dizzy from his blind panic, still coming back down from it.
Worst part is, he feels frustrated at N. He knows he shouldn't be, the kid is just hurt and desperate to find his friend and father, but dragons, he can't help but wonder with a sense of irritation why he won't understand that he can't run off to find them.
But he hears N hiccup, and that feeling fades. Tears patter onto the tile floor
He made him cry.
Anthea and Concordia run in just seconds later, Ryuki in tow. Like he'd thought, everyone heard him raise his voice.]
[.. end scene.]

Some ideas for using laser engraving on wooden living room furniture
Laser engraving can add a personal touch to wooden living room furniture, creating unique and customized pieces that reflect your style and personality. Here are some ideas for using laser engraving on wooden living room furniture:
Custom Engravings: You can engrave names, dates, quotes, or personal messages on wooden living room furniture to make it a one-of-a-kind piece.
Artistic Designs: Use laser engraving to create intricate designs, patterns, or scenes on the surface of the wood. This can range from traditional patterns to modern abstract art.
Functional Decor: Consider engraving patterns into functional items like coasters, cutting boards, or trays to enhance their aesthetic appeal.
Matching Sets: Coordinate your wooden living room furniture with other laser-engraved wooden decor pieces for a cohesive look throughout your living space.
Branding: If you're a furniture maker or retailer, laser engraving can be used to add a branded logo or mark to your products, which can help with brand recognition and give your furniture a professional finish.
When engraving wood, it's important to select the right type of wood. Maple, cherry, walnut, birch, alder, and basswood are all good choices because they engrave well and produce high-contrast results. Additionally, using vector lines for precise engraving is crucial for achieving successful wood laser engraving. You can use software like LightBurn or LaserGRBL to design your engravings, and a CO2 laser engraver is typically the best choice for wood due to its powerful output and ability to craft intricate designs.
Remember to take safety precautions when using laser engraving equipment, including wearing appropriate eye protection and ensuring proper ventilation.

Just Another Thursday
After Thursday breakfast with the usual egg and cheese sandwich — using ham this time instead of bacon — we did some more organizing in the garage. We recently added a yard waste bin to our collection, so some of the moving around was so we could create space for that bin alongside the regular trash and recycling.
There was a collection of firewood along one side of the garage. We moved it to the other side where there was some space below shelves which were already full. Then we swept up all the wood debris — and put it in our new yard waste bin — then juggled some other things.
That included our bicycles, which have been sitting unused in the three months since we arrived. All the tires are flat, so we’ll need to pump them up before we use the bikes again, but the pump is also hanging in the garage, so we won’t have to look or go far.
The Lane County Fair opened this week. (The Oregon Country Fair was a couple of weeks ago, but we opted not to spend the money and the time to visit something described as a Fourth Avenue Street Fair on acid.) The county fairgrounds is located near downtown Eugene, but we will most likely not be attending for a couple of reasons. One is the crowds. The other is the people.
We did venture downtown briefly, but not near the fairgrounds. We had planned to drop off some broken furniture at the waste disposal site, but an accident on the route forced us to take a different path. So we went first to the Assistance League in downtown Eugene to drop off donations of some clothing. Since we were so close and parking can be difficult, we walked to where the “Great Blue Heron” statue was installed in 2012.
The 16-foot sculpture by artist Jud Turner is made of 50 percent recycled materials and 50 percent new steel. It was unveiled on Oct. 18, 2012, two days before Eugene’s 150th birthday, at the intersection of E. 13th Ave. and Alder St. The work was commissioned by the University of Oregon and the City of Eugene.
On the way back to the car, we passed the house that had been used in the filming of “Animal House as the site where the Delta Tau Chi fraternity lived. It’s now a cannabis dispensary. We also saw bits of Bushnell University, a private Christian school originally established as a divinity school in 1895. It adopted its current name in 2020.
We did manage to visit the waste disposal site on our way home, where it cost us $13 to drop off the broken bits of the bathroom shelf that we had been kicking around the garage. The decision to take them to the dump was made during our clean-up in the garage earlier in the day.
For dinner we had mashed potatoes—made by boiling and whipping actual potatoes—and pulled pork, which we had bought this week at Costco. Accompanied by a small salad, it was a delicious meal. We used Rodney Scott’s barbecue sauce for a little extra flavor for the pork. We’ve had that on hand since coming back from our trip east in early 2023, which included a visit to Charleston, South Carolina, and a stop at Scott’s shop there.
Following dinner, we engaged in our usual evening of streaming entertainment, ending with a most interesting episode of “Midsomer Murder.” While only one murder occurred in the episode, there were plenty of shenanigans in the village, including some kinky sexual fun. Naturally, the reviews on IMDb were all quite high.

Laser Cutter & Engraver Machine for Wood
The woodworking is a craft as old as time, and there is a reason that it remains popular even today. There is a certain, rustic beauty to wood which makes it a timeless material of choice for hundreds of applications. Fortunately, laser technology has made it possible for woodworking to be easier, faster, and more accessible to amateurs and professionals alike.
Why choose a wood laser cutter from iGOLDENLasers?
Our machines have been utilised in a huge range of industries, from compact modern CNC machines for schools and workshops to purpose built machines for complete production lines. With a wood laser cutter, you can drastically increase production whilst lowering costs. Our British design and manufactured wood laser cutting machines are of the highest quality, leaving a feather-free cut so there is no need for a 'post process' to sand the edge – a major advantage compared to other machines such as routers.

Having designed and manufactured wood laser cutters for a diverse range of clients, we have a strong understanding on our customers’ typical applications, and some of these include creating coasters, toys, wood inlays, gift box decorations and architectural models.
What is Laser Engraving And Cutting Machine?
The laser machine is the general term for laser engraving machines, laser cutting machines, and laser marking machines. The laser machine uses its high-temperature working principle to act on the surface of the processed material, and at the same time draws patterns and texts required by customers based on the graphics input into the machine.
Wood Laser Cutter
In the past, creating custom wood pieces involved the use of a saw, perhaps a hammer, chisel, and a lot of elbow grease. Today, 3d wood laser cutters and engravers are two of the most popular options in the industry due to the versatility, reliability and insane accuracy. Laser technology is used for virtually any category of woodworking: from architecture and furniture to toys and crafts.
Insofar as laser cutting is concerned, wood can be separated into two distinct groups:
Natural timber from various species of tree. For example, maple or cherry wood.
Man-made wood manufactured by bonding wood pulp, fibers or shavings. For example, MDF or plywood
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b5c9a2c9277a855690826aaf10725b61/c4f8727a44453986-98/s540x810/03ec2a377f1ff44ad09d8553bb5b17bb41cea764.jpg)
How thick of wood can a CO2 laser cut through?
Multiple factors are at work here but generally speaking a CO2 laser with 50 watts of power is more than capable of cleanly laser cutting thru 1/4″ wood (in a single pass) and up to 3/4″ with 150 watts. Factors such as the speed of the laser and the type of wood being processed will alter a laser’s wood cutting ability. As an example, Cherry and Walnut can require up to 25% more cutting power compared to Maple. And solid oak often requires even more. We have a lot of experience with processing woods and have material processing charts you can use as a starting point.
All natural timbers can be cut by a CO2 laser at the 10.6µm wavelength. Limitations only apply with regard to thickness and the degree of charring that is acceptable to the customer.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/709c9d2d74ca06d05320d0b764e0a5a8/c4f8727a44453986-94/s540x810/ff1e305a2e6a8757dcd6fd797e36775652e57327.jpg)
Can any type of wood be cut and engraved with the laser?
Wood is an organic or natural material and is easily processed using a CO2 powered laser. However, factors within each type of wood will contribute to how the laser reacts such as the woods resin, content, and density and can dramatically effect the finished result. Soft woods including pines, cedar, or balsa wood will often require a reduction in laser power or increasing the laser head speed so as to prevent burn marks. On the other hand hardwoods need a higher laser power or slower speeds to effectively process.
youtube
Special versions of wood laser cutter are made for specific wood cutting applications such as, for example, laser cutting plywood for label dies. However, for the purpose of this article we are referring to a typical benchtop format laser cutter <100w.
For most industries laser cutting anything beyond 12mm natural timber and 9mm plywood produces an undesirable result because the feed rate (speed of cut) combined with optical limitations causes the wood to adversely burn.
When laser cutting wood the rate of laser fume extraction, particularly underside extraction and air assist delivered through the nosecone, can never be too much. When vaporised, wood produces a very dense fume that if not immediately evacuated from the cutting line will rise into the path of the beam and absorb laser power, significantly dropping the feed rate of the cut and in turn accelerating the degree of charring at the edge of the cut.
High amounts of debris from wood laser cutting machine can also contaminate laser optics causing them to fail prematurely and also cause HAZ (Heat Affected Zone), which is an undesirable staining to the edge and surfaces of the material.
In machines where the design of extraction is poor, surface HAZ can be minimised by first applying a low-tack, paper based tape to both surfaces of the wood. The tape acts as a masking barrier, attracting the contamination. After laser cutting the paper is removed and the wood surface underneath is clean.
Natural timber has a tendency to warp, which is challenging for a wood cutting laser as this causes the beam to defocus, producing undesirable results. Therefore, if the application calls for laser cutting of natural timber it is best to process the material as soon as possible after receiving it from the mill.
Man-made or engineered woods can contain resins that are actually designed to be fire retardant. This is unhelpful when trying to burn through the wood with a laser cutter!
Therefore, if the application calls for using a form of engineered wood it’s wise to be very selective about the exact type of material you use. For example, plywood is most commonly available in a WBP or exterior grade. The resins used to bond this type of plywood are among the least laser friendly and will resist the laser cutting process, accelerating HAZ.
Interior grade plywood, sometimes called white glue plywood, is among the most laser friendly plywood’s. Not as commonly available as exterior grade, interior grade should be used as a preference for laser cutting if the job specification allows it as the resins in the material will vaporise much cleaner.
An often overlooked aspect is that of the surface finish of wood prior to laser cutting. If the part to be laser cut is the finished item then the surface should always be sealed/finished before it is laser cut. This reduces HAZ and any HAZ present can be wiped off with a slightly damp cloth. If however the material is to be post processed, such as sanding for example, then pre-sealing the wood is not absolutely necessary as the HAZ will be removed during post processing.
At Laser Systems we manufacture a wide range laser, marking and engraving solutions ideally configured for laser cutting and laser engraving wood. Our experts would be happy to recommend which configuration best suits your application.

Top Furniture Reupholstery Services in New York at Amato Furniture
Furniture Reupholstery in NYC at Amato Furniture
Antique style furniture is made using different construction and filling techniques.
For example, antique furniture uses hourglass springs instead of modern zigzag or mesh springs. These provide excellent comfort and need to be carefully installed and fastened so that they stay in the correct position.
Similarly, padding requires the use of horsehair and cotton felt; modern foams do not look or feel right and will only destroy the integrity of the item.
This is a professional skill, and most interior decorators are able to deal with antique-style furniture in a sympathetic way. Unfortunately, there are some upholsterers who are clearly beyond their depth and often used rags to fill the seats to destroy antique furniture!
Antique Furniture Reupholstery NYC is time-consuming, and when the seating area becomes bumpy or sinking, the rush of work quickly becomes obvious...
The only exception to the traditional treatment of antiques is the use of staples instead of stacks to secure the cover. Traditional stacks have large holes in the wooden frame than staples, and as antique wood ages and modern heating systems dry out, tasks are more likely to cause the wood to crack.
Therefore, most upholsterers should provide your antique furniture with a choice of tacks or staples, with traditional nails where visible.
There are many antique renovation experts across the country, and they will sympathetically restore your antique furniture to make it your future family heirloom.
Although the cost of this type of work is inevitably higher than that of modern furniture, if there is a suitable interior decorator and attention to detail, the finished product will be an investment in the next few years.
Furniture Reupholstery NYC is the work carried out by an interior decorator on a piece of furniture from the inside out to restore it to its original quality or better. This process may require re-adhesive joints, webbing, re-fastening of springs, new liners, and application of the lid of your choice.
A good frame is worth redecorating. The high-quality frame is made of hardwood, such as maple, akmu, oak, and alder. These woods are strong and durable and stand the test of time. The upholsterer can tell them by their weight.

Custom Joinery is the art of creating joints that hold pieces of timber together. It is a skill used to build furniture, cabinets, and other items.
Bespoke joinery solutions can optimise storage capacity, enhance functionality, and complement your existing decor. They can even improve the value of your property. To know more about Custom Joinery, visit the VIP Cabinets website or call 0736204888.
Bookshelves are a versatile and convenient way to store your books, decorations and other items. They can be used in a bedroom, home office, living room or anywhere you need extra storage space. When building custom shelves, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure they will be sturdy and attractive. First, choose the type of wood you want your shelves to be made from. If you prefer a natural look with knot holes and grain textures, consider Alder or Pine. On the other hand, if you prefer a cleaner look, you can opt for Maple or Walnut. You should also decide how deep you want your shelves to be. USM shelving is available in a variety of sizes and finishes to fit any space and style.
Plywood is the industry standard for bookshelves because it’s inexpensive and very strong. However, it’s not very pretty and must be covered with a trim to make it presentable.
When your existing entertainment unit has reached capacity with DVDs, books and other items, or you simply want to modernise your living room, consider a custom joinery solution. Custom entertainment units can be designed and built in an alcove, flat wall or as freestanding furniture. Bespoke solutions offer space optimization and can enhance your home’s value. They can also blend with any style and decor. Contact us today to find out how we can help you.
A custom built wardrobe offers both storage solutions as well as a focal point in your room. It can be positioned in the corner of your bedroom, centered behind or to the side of a bed or filling an entire wall. This closet system can also include drawers, a tack board and shelves for shoes. To know more about Custom Joinery, visit the VIP Cabinets website or call 0736204888.
PAX only comes in 3 widths so it can be difficult to get a true custom fit in your home. IKEA hacks can be used to make your PAX look more custom such as putting a piece of trim in the back to cover up the seam where the wardrobe unis meet (see pictures below). Another trick is to put small VARIERA plastic plugs on the holes that are visible in the back of the wardrobe when it’s installed. This makes the doors look finished and less like you just installed IKEA furniture. It’s a cheap and easy fix that will add that finishing touch.

how to make easy , wood coaster
🔴 How to Make Easy, Wood Coasters
The majority of us only give coasters any thought when we are reminded how ineffective we have been with them. However, that may be the result of the dull and uninspired nature of many coasters. You can do this simple woodworking project in a few hours, and making coasters out of well-seasoned logs will almost certainly make you remember to use one the next time you place a drink down on more delicate furniture. The ability to experiment is one of the best things about making your own wood coasters. You can do almost anything with colored epoxy resins and wood-burning processes. Now let's get going.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/054a0926e782ff2d284305a269f8bf84/c9739902b3bd53cd-20/s540x810/ae48e2e61fb891c6a9e7f7cf36ad10268ebb7521.jpg)
🔴 Materials Required:

🔴Choose and Prepare Your Wood
dried log of a tree.
Pick well-seasoned wood; if not, it may continue to dry and break after you've constructed your coasters, which is something you don't want. Most wood takes around six months to season in a dry, well-ventilated area.
You are free to select whatever kind of wood you desire. Hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, hickory, maple, and alder will look more elegant and maybe be more durable than softwoods like fir, cedar, and pine, which frequently give a rustic appearance. A foot or more in length, 3.5 to 4" in diameter, and somewhat straight logs are what you want to find.
Using a stiff brush, clean the log.
After choosing your log, brush out any loose bark and extra dirt using a strong brush. You can use a hatchet, hand plane, or chisel to remove your bark entirely if you wish to.
🔴 cut Your Coasters Using a power miter saw or any other preferred saw, cut a coaster.
While a handsaw can be used to create your wood coasters, a power miter saw greatly simplifies the process. To get started, trim the end off so that you have a perfectly level surface.
Size of coaster: 1/2–3/4.
Next, make your first coaster circle, about 1/2 to 3/4" thick, using your miter saw. Clamp a scrap piece of wood to the base of your saw and use it as a guide to cut consecutive coasters to ensure consistency. Cut whichever many coasters you would like. At least four coasters are included in most sets.
🔴 Use a palm sander to finish and sand the coasters.
To get the desired level of smoothness, sand your coasters by hand or using a palm sander, starting with a coarse grit (such as 120) and working your way up to finer grits.
Sand from the wooden coaster.
Sand off any excess loose bark at this time, and use it as an ideal opportunity to add finishing touches like smoothing the edges.
wooden coaster being cleaned using a microfiber towel.
After sanding, use a microfiber cloth to dust your coasters and then stain, mineral oil, shellac, or paint them as desired. Wood that has been sealed on both sides will be shielded from condensation from chilly glasses and will not dry out too much, which could lead to cracking.

We begin each door with a drawing design in which the client is actively involved. In fact, clients frequently discover the value of their doors during this process. They can tell us the story, and we will engrave it on the door, or they can simply show us a picture, and we will design the door accordingly. Every door has a WOODTELLSTORY-Carved Wood Furniture story on it. See some sketches below that we have already converted into doors. You may pick from a variety of wood types for your doors, including mahogany, black walnut, knotty alder, ash, and oak, among others. The wood grains and prices of various wood species vary. By the way, we kyln-dry all of the wood logs we used for doors before erecting them.
No matter if a wooden door has carved designs or not, or how tenon and mortise structures are used, a competent master-level carpentry job ensures whether or not this door might survive for decades. Each antique door manufactured by WOODTELLSTORY is guaranteed to survive a long time by our master-level artisans utilizing full length, solid timber that is tenon joined, pegged, and doweled. We are very proud of our Hand Carving On Wood method, which takes the majority of the time when creating a bespoke door. The photographs below show hand carving elements in more depth. We have the most artistic hand carving talents in the world to create each project specifically for each of our clients across the world as a treasure. This includes chainsaw carving, chisel carving, rough carving, intricate carving, shallow carving, and high relief carving. There is no other Hand Carved Doors in the entire world that compares to the magnificent handcrafted original we build for you under the artistically talented wood carvers' tireless labor.

Prehung is used after carving, and during prehung, all of the hardware, including hinges, doorshoe sweepers, weatherstripping, bolts, and roller locks, are already attached. Pictures of prehung doors are included. We normally apply 3 times of hand sanding plus primer coats to each individual door. For examples of how we hand sand each project, check the photographs below. Hand sanding allows you to feel wonderful when your hands touch wood door surfaces. The stain and finish process is another set of mastery-level abilities we possess, particularly for those wild creatures we are able to stain the precise colors on, such as the Eagle door and Lion door, both of which appear to be alive. An infographic detailing various kinds of popular woods and their uses. Soft woods like pine, spruce, fir, teak, and cedar. Hard woods like oak, poplar, ash, beech, alder, balsa, cherry, mahony, and maple. Finally, even composite wood pulp is discussed.
By the infographic’s ends, you should have a very good sense of which woods would be appropriate for which uses and tasks. For example, oak for furniture, flooring, and cabinetry. Ash for furniture, flooring, doors, carpentry, moulding, and baseball bats. If you have composite wood pulp, you’ll be interested in walls, roofing, sub-flooring, furniture, cabinets, and just general purpose uses. If you have a bowling alley to build, use maple. Boat bodies? Mahogany would be a perfect fit.
Decking and fencing? Try some cedar for the win. Whatever you need that can be made from wood, something in this infographic will be perfect for it. So dive right in and ogle these wonderful, wonderful woods.
All these will be highlighted by this infographic, courtesy of Mechanicalcaveman.com.
