The Duke of Teck observed that his daughter (Mary) had quite become "the child of the Waleses", and foresaw that she would be very much taken up with them. She went shopping with George by day, and played bezique with him during the evenings. He loved to reminisce with her about his "darling boy", the brother of whom he had been so protective. Throughout the rest of his life he used Eddy's pen. The relationship between the two was reckoned to be no more than platonic at the time, he signing his letters to "Miss May ever your very loving old cousin Georgie", In turn, her replies were signed, "your devoted Cousin May".

”No two brothers could have loved each other more than we did. […] I long to ask his forgiveness, but... it is too late now!’“
George wrote to the Queen (Victoria) in the week following the death of his older brother Eddy.

The Princess of Wales with Prince Albert Victor, photographed by Jabez Hughes.
Madame Jerichau-Baumann, an artist and the wife of a Danish sculptor, who came to Marlborough House to paint Prince Albert Victor a few months after his birth, describes a pretty scene which illustrates not only the Queen's delight in her firstborn, but her kind thought for the humble mother who was his wet-nurse. A robust young Irishwoman was appointed to that position, and after she had been in the royal nursery for a time, her health began to suffer, and the Princess of Wales quickly divined that 'nurse' was grieving for her own baby boy, and arrangements were made for him to come and see her. Madame Jerichau describes his arrival, dressed in "a fine green coat and a hat with feathers, which accentuated his plain face with low forehead and stumpy nose". The Princess entered the nursery with her own little Albert Victor, and, going up to the the new arrival, said in her sweet way "Oh, how nice he is!" to please his mother, who was radiant with joy. "Then, after sending her away," says Madame Jerichau, "the Princess let the two little boys slide down on the soft rug in front of the fire, and remarked, laughing, to me, "I just want to measure them and see which of the two is bigger. It is mine", she exclaimed, full of triumph, "Eddy is a whole half inch longer, though a fortnight younger!" — The life of Queen Alexandra, Sarah A. Tooley

On 9th November 1841, Edward VII was born at Buckingham Palace.
Then titled The Duke of Cornwall, he was born to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He was named Prince Albert Edward after his father, Prince Albert and his maternal grandfather, Prince Edward. He was known to the family as Bertie. Albert Edward was born first in line to the throne and heir apparent. At one-month-old, he was created Prince of Wales. Through his father, he was also a Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Duke of Saxony.
In 1863, The Prince of Wales married Princess Alexandra of Denmark at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. They had 6 children: Albert Victor, George (later George V), Louise, Victoria, Maud and Alexander (who died at one day old).
After the death of his mother, Edward ascended the throne in 1901 as Edward VII. Edward’s reign is widely regarded as a successful one, constitutionally, by reinventing how the Royal Family operated and in terms of diplomacy - Edward was fluent in French and German and famously charmed the previously hostile French on a State Visit in 1903. Edward VII reigned for nine years and was succeeded by his son, George, in 1910.
