Years and years he asked the state to find the rape kit tied to his case. It was only in 2005, when DNA evidence proved he was not guilty. The city says the $18 million settlement amount to Alan Newton — who spent 22 years behind bars for a rape he didn't commit — was "excessive".That's all unfair! NYC just doesn't want to take its responsibilities. Newton's lawyers tried to take the case to the Supreme Court, but the court refused to hear it, claiming the city had to pay up. In 2005 the man was freed from imprisonment PENNILESS! NOW, Alan Newton works for CUNY’s Black Male Initiative. The program helps bolster graduation rates among black people through educational programs. This position will make the man less than $25,000 a year. This crap has to be solved somehow!
