En Anbu Poi Illai
This OS is inspired by the song Maruvaarthai from the movie Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta. I have used only one half of the song for this OS.
En Anbu Poi Illai means my love/affection is not a lie. *****
Maruvaarthai pesadhe
Ramaa paused the song and closed her eyes, the tears she fought so hard leaking down from the corner of her eyes. She wiped them hurriedly, and stared out into the darkness from the window seat she had gotten on the flight. She had seen him, her Govardhan, in the lobby of the airport. He too seemed to be waiting for the same flight as her, and his eyes, deep, intense and bright, filled with the multiple lights of the world, still filled her soul to its depth. His eyes conveyed the depth of his still powerful feelings. She knew the blush that had now permanently embedded itself on her face had given him the same answer.
Lowering her eyes to her phone, she played the song once more, despite having avoided it for the entire thirteen months they had been broken up.
madi meedhu nee thoongidu
Her memories flashed to the days where her anxiety would act up, and he would place her head on his lap, stroking her hair and cheeks, which often made her sleep. He always made sure she slept on his lap, be it curled into them, or be it with her head on it. But now, now... she did not have him, and he did not have her.
In that exact moment, she felt her neighbour sit next to her. She turned slowly, as the thump of her heart's beat intesnified heavily.
"Vardhan?" she whispered when their eyes clashed in a passionate eye lock. He gazed at her, taking in her face and frowning at how thin she had become. His eyes fell on hers again, and he whispered, "Ramaa?"
She closed her eyes instantly, his calling of her name filling her to the bones. He loved calling her Ramaa, and he seemed to continue doing that.
imai pola naan kaaka
kanavaai nee maaridu
She remembered him whispering the words 'I will guard your eyes like my own, and you become the dream that flows through our life.'
"Our life," she whispered and opened her eyes once more, tears springing in them. His yearning for her burned through her blood, through her veins, and lit a fire through her body, her actions, her life. He was the power of her yearning in itself, and the honour in her wish to be successful.
"Our life," he agreed, easily echoing her. His dark eyes told her that he too remembered those memories, the ones where he would kiss her eyes softly once she closed them, and then hug her close, as she sunk into his strong arms and slept the night away.
"Ramaa," he started, and she whispered back, "yes Vardhan?"
"We are both going to be in Chennai. Tell me, can I allow you to be the dream again?" He asked gently, making her shiver and gaze into his eyes, those eyes which told her he was still all hers.
"I want to, but I am too afraid."
"You? Afraid? I don't believe it," he told her. "You are the boldness of the bold, you know what to say when."
"Vardhan, I hurt you last time. I will never forgive myself for that hurt caused."
"Is that why you stayed away for thirteen whole months, Ramaa?" His voice belayed the hurt that was there, and her heart tore at his pain. She reached for his palm, just as the air hostess came to tell them both to buckle up, as the flight was about to start its ascent into the sky. She buckled in, as did he, both looking away. Ramaa disliked this weird air between them.
She wanted to clear it, and return to his arms.
That is all she had wanted since the day they broke up, since the moment they broke up. Why had they even broken up? Both of them were much stronger than that, and they had fought through their relationship to keep it intact.
So why did they break? Why did they split?
mayil thogai pole viral unnai varudum
The touch of his hand on hers jerked her out of her spiral. She looked at him, snuggling her hand into his touch. She had no intention of moving her hand away, and she could see the happiness in his lotus eyes when she sought his gentle touches and affection.
He gently slipped his fingers in between hers, the touch like that of a peacock feather. She smiled at him, leaning back as the flight took off, muttering her usual prayers, still gripping his hand. She stilled when a pair of headphones clamped over her ears, and the Vishnu Sahasranamam started. She looked at him with teary eyes, and he smiled, nodding.
She relaxed, her hand not moving from his comforting grip, as the sweet tones of MS Subbalakshmi reciting Vishnu Sahasranama filled her ears.
Once it was done, she gave him his headphones, and gazed at him, just wanting to have her fill. She saw him looking at her the same way, as his hand came up to gently tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She knew this took them back to the first time he had done that, the tension ratcheting up with his actions, and the intimate embrace they had shared after that action.
manam padamayi uraiyadal nigazhum
Their eyes, still gazing at each other, were conveying the words of the heart, reaching them to their respective souls.
"So you did it, hmm?"
"I did," she said. "And now, I know why you advised me against it when we were together."
"Why did I?" Govardhan's eyes, fond and loving, made Ramaa blush, and she looked away partially, her pink cheeks endearing to him. She felt his fingers very lightly touch them before pulling away, and she turned to look at him with a pout, about to argue. However, she paused.
They used to argue like this, because he always only lightly touched her, till she pouted and grumbled at him.
"You wanted me to gain independence from the restrictions of my elder brothers by myself, and not to try and balance our relationship," Ramaa said softly. "But love.. I mean, Vardhan, our relationship was and memories of it still is my highest motivation. You taught me to grow personally, you gave me everything. You are everything."
"As you are mine," he said gently, his eyes holding tears when she called him love. It was her favourite term of endearment, and just seeing him had opened up all that.
vizhi neerum veenaga

"Don't hold back your tears," Ramaa whispered, gently touching him below his eye. She looked at him pleadingly, and a single tear fell on her palm, from his eyes, which were as bright as an ocean of water.
"Oh Vardhan..."
Tears fell down her eyes too, and she placed her head on his shoulder to maintain some semblence of calm in the flight. She knew they looked like a couple, and that actually made a small corner of her heart cheer in delight. Pushing it away, she held his arm gently, giving him the comfort he very clearly needed.
She felt his lips press on her head, and smiled quietly, just being there for him, despite their individually single statuses.
"You know..." she said after a while, still not moving from her position.
"Hmm?" he hummed into her hair, making her snuggle into him more, in as discreet a way as she could. Luckily, they were in one of the corners of the flight, and their row was a two seater.
"I am not going to stay at my usual place," she said softly. "I will be with Bhima Anna and Yagya Anni."
"What?" he sounded delighted, and she lifted her face up to meet his eyes. She nodded with a bright smile.
"Amma and Appa are picking me up. We are going to Woodlands for breakfast, and I will go directly to Bhima Anna's place. I will be with them and Pritha Athai," Ramaa smiled. "I broke truly free, Vardhan. I broke free from the restrictions placed on me."
Before he could say something, she continued, "And it is all because of you, Vardhan. Only because of you. Of the love I know you bear for me, of the strength you gave me, even far away. I did not forget you for a moment, Vardhan. I did not forget you for a moment."
"maranthalum naan unnai
ninaikaadha naal illaiye
pirindhalum en anbu
oru podhum poi illaiye," Vardhan sang these lines softly as a reply to Ramaa, his eyes giving her all the intensity of his feelings, which only seemed to have grown over the months of separation and absence of communication.
"Why did we break up?" she asked softly, into the silence they had in between them. She just wanted to talk to him, to clear the air, so that they can have a calm flight after this.
"Your brothers were threatening you, because you were with me," he said gently. "I did not want you to have to face that, and you were getting worked up, love."
She closed her eyes and allowed two tears to fall down her cheeks to her neck.
"I should have handled it better, but Vardhan, why did you let me go?" she asked, a bit miffed about it, though she did understand why he had to.
"To make you realize you never wanted me to let you go," he said, after a long moment, where she held her breath. She let out a sigh when she heard his response. Of course it was noble, always for her, always for her well being, for her evolution.
Always for her.
"I don't want separation anymore, Govardhan," Ramaa used his full name, looking him in the eye, blushing softly at his tender gaze.
"Then we will not be separated anymore, Ramaa."

Nainowale Ne (Sequel to Ajab Si Adaayein)
The entire OS is here, centered on the song Nainowale Ne from Padmavat.
*******
Nainowale ne
Maadhavi could not sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, his brown eyes, sparkling with the colours of life shone in her memory. She was entirely captivated, and she had not heard the man speak even once. Heck, she knew nothing about him, and yet... she could not ignore that pesky little feeling, which said that she actually knew everything about him.
Krishna, why this torment?
Nainowale ne, chera man ka pyaala
He had really disturbed her heart, which always thrummed for her Hari, which still did. Her love for Vishnu stayed a constant, and yet, being lost in the eyes of this mystery man did not feel wrong somehow... it felt as if Hari Himself had wanted it.
But why? Maadhavi could feel a pout form on her lips, and she sighed. How was she to ever understand her heart's mischievous plans?
chalkaayi madhushaala
She silenced her snickering mind at the thought of the poetry that was about to spill out loud from her traitorous mouth. The cup of her love had overflowed, it sang teasingly, and she did not want to be that affected. Her cheeks, however, betrayers that they were, turned a deep red at the very thought of his handsome face.
Her unknown stranger's luminous face, whose everything felt like her own.
mera chain rain nain apne saath le gaya
She got up and again fell on her bed, knocking herself on the head with her closed palm. She had gone insane, she felt, especially after seeing him. What was he thinking, taking everything away from her, including her thoughts, emotions and sanity? Who was he to invade her eyes at every turn?
nainowale ne, ahaa
nainowale ne
"Yes, I am well aware that it was his fault, you crazy mind of mine," she said out aloud, rubbing her cheeks when she felt them reddening even further. She closed her face with her hands, sighing at what she believed was unstable behaviour. What was happening to her, and why was she allowing it to happen?
'Who are you to control the flow of fate?' her heart chided, and she nodded. This was true, for fate was His choice. What He wanted, only that happened.
chera man ka pyaala
chalkaayi madhushaala
mera chain rain nain apne saath le gaya
She blew a raspberry on the open air and hid her face in the comfortable, fluffy pillow to her side and closed her eyes, willing herself to sleep.
***
pag pag dolo re... hooo
Maadhavi glared at her feet, which had tripped yet again, as she entered the book store. She had never been a klutz her whole life. She had always walked with firm steps, being a dancer from a young age. However, recently, ever since she had met him, she had become clumsy. She walked in a way that could be described as dance, and she could not change it. While the walking-like dance part came easy, she was yet to adjust entirely to the 'seeing him everywhere' aspect of her life, and thus, the combination caused her to spaz the way she had.
pag pag dolo re, dagmag si main chalti
Maadhavi took a breather at the historic fiction section, sighing. She was swaying in a way she never had before, all because she saw wood that resembled his eye colour. He had really stolen even her common sense, something she mourned a bit dramatically. Could she now walk normally?
She smiled to herself and simply moved one step as if dancing, and giggled quietly. She genuinely felt like she was taking swan-like steps, as Sita and Andal are especially described in Tamizh songs. Anna nadai was a real thing, she mused, turning to grab the book she had been eyeing.
hoon jag mag lau si jalti
tere naino ki kaisi madiraa
"You look so bright today, Dhavi," said Rekha, the middle aged woman who always rang the register in the bookstore. "Like a bright flame, in fact."
Maadhavi blushed, embarassed at the compliment. She could rarely hand compliments well, rather shrinking and hiding when they are given, turning varying shades of pink and red instead. She could not own a compliment, definitely not the way she could own deprecation, especially self-deprecation.
She knew her bright appearance was due to the addiction of his eyes. She had seen the Universe and beyond in them, and there is nothing she could do beyond constantly thinking of them and losing herself in them. Smiling quietly to herself, she shifted to the section on Sanatana Dharma, and froze.
har-thar kaanpoon re tere teer si chippti
Maadhavi had turned bright red, for he stood right opposite her, his eyes as bright as the flame she had been called. He gazed at her unblinking, after taking permission from her once again. Her heart melted, for this man had chosen to take permission from her for gazing at her, the second time as well.
'He will always,' her mind, which was usually much more pragmatic, said. It was clear that even her mind was in line with her heart's thoughts, and she felt the beat of the same thud through her body. She closed her eyes, as if to arrest his own within them, turning away partially due to the utter bashfulness that filled her.
chandan pe naag si lipti
She felt like she needed something to hold her, for the fire that suddenly burned between them was making her body sway. She wanted to lean against something, and let her body willingly burn in the fire that blazed between them. His gaze made her shutter in the best way possible, and she slowly raised her eyes to meet his, blushing yet again and smiling in reflex.
She quietly walked towards him, deciding to move past, when suddenly, something hit her legs and she lost balance.
Yet again.
Before she could right herself, she felt warm, slightly rough hands grab her to balance her. The touch was so familiar, that she did not even need to know who had done it.
She met his eyes again, her cheeks now a permanent red, thanks to him and his closeness and gentleness. His eyes met hers, and they held an apology for touching her without permission. She could feel herself telegraph that it was fine, he had protected her, and saw his face light up in the silent communication they had.
mein behosh tu nasha
aise moh ki dashaa
mera chain rain nain apne saath le gaya
"Hi! I am Shyam," he said softly, his voice the melody of the flute Maadhavi's heart sings in. She knew instantly that this was the blessing of her Krishna, of her Universe, in this form. Yet, suppressing the excitement which suddenly burst through Her, She responded.
"Hi Shyam. I am Maadhavi."

VaasudevaVasudaa- Chapter 1 snippet
“I do, Madhavi,” Satyabhama smiled at Her friend, both grateful and reassuring, understanding the worry of Her friend. She knew well that if Satyabhama continued with the plan, Her existence will be known in a broader way throughout Aryavarta, which might cause more complications than Satyabhama frankly needed, owing to Her continuous wish to learn more, as well as very sharp intellect, which could easily see everything in a piercing way that was rarely seen amidst the Yadavas. Satyabhama continued, “From what I have heard of Devakinandan, He is very very appreciative of women and their wishes, as well as accepts them with sincerity. Taara Bhagini, who is His sister, says so, as does Sushila, who has been in love with Him since She has seen Him. And you know how much I trust both, given that They never embellish anything They tell me, come what may. That, put together with the opinion of every Yadava, including Pitashree and Jyeshta Bhrata, as well as a very powerful feeling of trust that is shooting through my heart, I believe that Vaasudeva Krishna will listen to my plea, and mostly accept my wish.”
“It is true that He does have a particularly unbiased opinion, and has been hailed by every single Yadava. But..”
“Madhavi, I can understand your worry,” Satyabhama reached out to pat Her close friend’s hand, gently holding as well, giving Madhavi strength. “But I am confident. Additionally, Pitashree and Bhrata agreed to my wish as well, and will be helping in this process.”
“But what about the chieftains of the Kula, Satyaa?”
“They are Yadavas, are they not, Madhavi?”

Edhuvum Avanukaaga: Chapter 4: Avalirku Vaaku
Avalirku Vaaku- A vow to her and for her
*********
Arulmozhi hurried to Thanjai on his elephant, and having tricked the people at Naagai reluctantly so that he could leave. There was a lot that had happened within two days, and he had to celebrate a function with the people of Naagai before making his elephant run mad on purpose so that he could leave and go home to Thanjai. As he made his way to Thanjai, as fast as he could, he spotted a familiar stocky figure crossing the street and stopping to look at him. Arulmozhi sighed and patted the elephant gently, slowing him down as they reached the man.
He got down in a trice, and smiled with an exasperated sigh, speaking, "Thirumalai, thaangal inge?"
"Ilavarase, it is my fortune to see you alive, hale and hearty," said the student of Aniruddha Brahmarayar. Arulmozhi was not surprised that the Prime Minister of Chozha Nadu knew of his alive status.
"It is not like you did not know I was alive, Thirumalai," the amusement he felt was made obvious in his tone. "There is nothing you do not know."
"And yet, Ayya, I am unaware of why you are coming to Thanjai now," the Vaishnava said in a dry tone, eyes twinkling to give away his amusement as well.
"I have my own reasons, Ayya," Ponniyin Selvar said calmly. "There are things that need my presence in Thanjai and Pazhayarai. I am just awaiting an active response from my thamaiyanar."
"Ilavarasar Aditha Karikalar insisted on going to Kadambur anyway, even after your letter came. Or so he informed the Ilaya Piratti," Nambi said casually. "So, the Princess, along with her uyir thozhi, the light of Kodumbalur, have gone to Kudanthai."
"To the Jothidar? Again?" Arulmozhi was exasperated with his elder sister and her love for astrology. "But are you sure that they are there?"
"I am, Ilavarase. I myself was heading there to talk to the Ilaya Piratti for my next set of orders."
"Then let us make our way there, together," Arulmozhi determined.
****
"Akka, Vaanathi!"
Vaanathi jerked when she heard Arulmozhi's voice. She had already put up with his dearest boat woman for days, and her nerves were jagged, on edge. His voice soothed them some, though the sweet look on the said boat woman's face was getting to her. She was about to look away, when her eyes caught his, and she froze. Why did he look like he knew something... her breath caught in her chest, as she met his eyes, the ones which touched her heart and soul. His eyes were intense, aflame with an emotion her soul identified, though it went unnamed in her mind. She knew she was captivated once more, but this time, his emotions shone as powerfully as hers always had, and that sent thrills of delight through her body.
What had changed?
"Ponniyin Selvare," she whispered, even before her Akka could, making the latter smirk at the two of them, seemingly content in allowing their interaction to happen first.
"Vaanathi," he stepped closer to her, his towering height making her gaze up at him, blushing when his eyes traced the shape of her face. She blushed, feeling her skin light up with the depth in his eyes, and she looked away shyly, her eyes widening when they met Kundavai's smirking eyes.
"Akka," Vaanathi whispered, running to her side, making the Ilaya Piratti laugh, before she turned to Arulmozhi.
"Vaalu," Kundavai said entirely exasperated. "What are you doing here?"
"Ask your Thozhi, Akka. She scares me sometimes," he said, nodding at Samudrakumari, but entirely focused on the Velir magal in front of him.
"What did I do?" Vaanathi was confused. What was he talking about? She stilled when their eyes met, and his penetrating gaze told her the truth. Oh... oh no. He had found and read the letter, which had accelerated his plans. He was not supposed to read it so soon. He also looked a bit... displeased.
"You know what you did," he said firmly. "I am here to stop you, Vaanathi."
"But Ilavarase..." He interrupted her, rare for him but much needed at that point, at least in his perspective.
"No Vaanathi, whatever it is, we can talk it out. That step is unacceptable," he said firmly, looking at his Akka innocently. He added, "It is just an argument between Vaanathi and I, Akka, don't worry about it."
"You know Akka will find out right?" Vaanathi's tone was dry and deadpan, her sassy nature coming out once more due to his presence. Kundavai had already gone forward with Samudra Kumari and Thirumalai, leaving her younger brother with her chellam.
"I am aware. But maybe let us not worry her when Chozha Nadu is already going through so much," he whispered in her ear and pointed to the hut of the Jothidar, as if asking her to enter first.
Vaanathi felt shivers run down her spine, and she closed her eyes. His ability to affect her had somehow increased, despite her decision to stay strong and formal with him. Instead, she had lost herself in him once more, something she had told herself she would not do again, as it was bound to hurt her. But his gaze had unlocked something in her, something deeper, a reflection of his own expressions. Steeling herself, she turned to him and asked, "What are you really doing here, my Prince? Akka asked you not to come, and you don't disobey her. So why suddenly?"
"I got your letter," he said, searching her eyes. "You did not want me to find it so early, and yet, I am thankful I did. What were you thinking, Vaanathi?"
"That I do not want my honour to be besmirched, that my honour should not be tainted," she said quietly. "My honour and my chastity are my highest values, and I refuse to let anything or anyone taint it."
Her heart tore at the pain that danced across his handsome face, but what could she do? She had to be truthful, even more so because she had vowed that she was his alone, in her heart of hearts.
"Then punish me however you want. Just don't take the oath," his low voice broke her heart. No, her Selvar should never have such pain, and yet, here she was, causing him such pain. Tears sprung in her eyes, and she looked away in an attempt to control her emotions. From the corner of her eyes, she saw him making an aborted motion to comfort her.
She turned back to him, tears now shining in her doe eyes, which fell when she saw the tears forming in his own.
"Selvare, do not tear, not for something so small and simple," she tried to say, but he shook his head.
"I promised myself that I would always protect and honour women. To think that I tainted yours with my doubts breaks my heart, Vaanathi," he said quietly, his expression suddenly turning neutral.
"You did not taint mine," she said, horrified at his words. "You doubted because you heard rumours. And who does not when they hear such, my Prince? Did I also not think you felt something for Samudrakumari?"
She winced at her words, and turned to leave, but his hand stopped her by gently gripping her wrist. She turned around to meet his eyes, not making any action to move her hand away.
"It is my fault for hurting you so, Vaanathi," he said, determined to make this right. "Vanadevi of Thirunallam, will you allow me to at least rectify my mistake? Will you allow me to repent?"
"You have no need to though, Ponniyin Selvare. You are free to love who you want," she said quietly, about to turn away, when his words stopped her.
"No Vaanathi, my heart has been given a long time ago at Thirunallam. It just took these dire situations for me to understand."
She looked at him with shock, surprise and entire love in her eyes, and he smiled back quietly, indicating that they enter the hut, for Kundavai would not be too happy otherwise. She nodded, her eyes still on his as they entered, before she walked to Kundavai's side, shaking her head with tears in them.
Kundavai nodded, taking in the tense frame of her brother's. She had to talk to both eventually, and she would. For now, they all had to focus on Chozha Nadu first.
Vaanathi and Arulmozhi walked out of the hut, both entirely flummoxed. The astrologer had waxed poetic about them as a couple and the supposed future of Chozha Nadu the moment he saw them together. Vaanathi had blushed a whole lot, but had also avoided looking at him, more out of shyness than anything else. The apparent power of their pair was also recited in great detail. Vaanathi had noticed Samudrakumari's building fury, but most of her was focused on the awed expression on her Prince's face.
"Vaanathi?"
"Yes my Prince?" she turned to meet his eyes, her breath yet again stopping at her chest when his eyes, alit with passion and love, met hers.
"I will prove your worth to you. This is my promise, on Akka's golden feet."

Thirukkural in random order
எப்பொருள் யார் யார் வாய்க் கேட்பினும் அப்பொருள் மெய்ப்பொருள் காண்பது அறிவு. 423
It is wisdom to perceive truth when heard, no matter who utters it.
Yes, it is. This is why listening to all perspectives is important too, this is why we should also read as much as we can. Everything ties in, for learning properly will give one wisdom, but so will understanding how to perceive the truth.
The only way to do this is by listening to every perspective and parsing through every meaning of what is said. This ties into another Kural, given below:
எண் பொருளவாகச் செலச்சொல்லித் தான் பிறர் வாய் நுண் பொருள் காண்பது அறிவு. 424
Wisdom is to speak clearly and to discern in a subtle way what others say.
Yes, wisdom lies in being truthful yourself, but it also does lie in understanding what others say, which is looped in with listening to all perspectives.
It is stunning how much knowledge of life and the way to live is present in the Thirukkural.

Two weeks later
Chennai, Tamil Nadu
"Thiju!"
Kshithija's eyes met Nila's bright, lucid eyes, shining with an excitement that the former was sure was reflected in her own eyes. Nila had matured even more, her hair in a loose ponytail, long, swishing around behind her back in her excitement. Her beauty had a glow to it, the glow that only romantic feelings acknowledged, accepted and returned could give one.
Had Aditya asked her out?
Kshithija thought all of this, as she embraced her sister tightly. Nila often felt like a part of Kshithija's heart, an integral part of it. Without Nila, her heart would not be complete, just like without Arun, her heart had no blooming. Even through the harsh rejection, and the many years it had been since she had been in anything more than vague and distinct contact with him and his family, he still ran through her heart and veins, like he had never left it.
And he hadn't. She had tried to be as with-the-flow in healing as possible. Though loving him from many thousand miles away was very different from loving him when in close contact. And she doubted the intensity between them would have died down; in fact, if she could hazard a guess, it was going to be much more intense. More than it had ever been.
How she could guess that she had not divined yet, but she knew her gut too well to doubt it anymore.
"What is it, Vaandu?" Nila asked very affectionately, giving Kshithija a knowing look, tinged with some shyness rare in her.
"Did you end up getting a date, Akka?" Kshtihija whispered, not wanting her uncle, who she had embraced earlier to hear just yet. The delightful blush on Nila's face, splashing across her bronzed skin told Kshithija that Aditya had finally asked Nila out. "Oh! He finally asked you out then."
"He did," Nila agreed, the dark blush filling her cheeks, as she looked at Kshithija, the latter smiling brightly.
"What great news to get as I return, Akka. May you always always be happy," Kshithija wished her cousin, hugging her once more, before both grabbed the suitcases and wheeled it to the car, Kshithija more than ready to return home, to the safety of the place she grew up in.
Kshithija was curled up in her favourite nook on the first floor of her house, the couch as comfortable as her usual bean bag back at London. She looked at the book open on her lap, smiling at the worn out pages. She had read this multiple times for comfort, and somehow felt the urge to pick up the book at that moment.
If she thought deeply, she would know why she was in this state; it had everything to do with Arun, with having to meet Arun again. Maybe not immediately, but they ran in very similar social circles, that meeting him socially would happen at some point. Further, the closeness of the two families also guaranteed that she would have to meet him in informal family gatherings.
Since the loss of her father, her Periappa and Sundar uncle, Arun's father, had bonded even more. While both had been close before, the loss of Appa had sealed the friendship in a deeper, more instinctual way than ever before. When they teamed up, it was known that they could win any argument. Given that she was still the heir of her father's company, and Arun was going to be Managing Director eventually, she suspected matchmaking endeavors.
Would she be able to deal with them? She was after all well aware of the ways this set up will happen. And worse, if Iramathi wanted it to happen even now. Kshithija's affection for Iramathi had not receded by any means, and she was aware she was often a pushover, especially with people she loved. But one thing she had gotten with clarity during her time away was perspective.
Iramathi was loving, but she was also not above pushing people together if she thought it would help her family and the mega empire they ran. Aditya could be ruthless sometimes, despite being gentle as well when needed, though it was not the case every time it was needed. Paavai was a little firecracker, and her two brothers often spoiled her, which often gave her a sense of superiority, despite the genuineness that ran in her. Kalyaani was quiet, but could be very cunning when needed. And Arun...
Arun was more morally righteous and truthful than any of his siblings. But he also had a habit of not trusting anyone easily, despite having known them for a long time. While there was nothing wrong with being cautious, there was wrong with actually believing rumours more than the friendship that had been shared for many years.
She sighed to herself. This was the exact path she did not want herself in, and she had, of course found herself venturing into it. Being a psychologist could not prevent her from completely getting over her overthinking habits, it could only help her understand who could advise and guide her through it, leading to healing.
What was she to do though, if such a situation came up?
"Thiju!"
Kshithija was bought out of her thought spiral by her younger brother, who bounded in and plopped down next to her. They were best friends, having only one and a half years between them.
"Yes Kumara?" she asked, playfully rolling her eyes, giggling at his mock offended look. "What do you need me for, mischief maker?"
"Thiju, we both know that you are the biggest mischief maker between the two of us," he nudged her, making her laugh in agreement, responding, "That is a secret!"
The two siblings basked in the cheerful silence, before Kumaran again broke it.
"The social events of the year are starting, Thiju. In about a month," Kumaran announced. Kshithija knew well that he was aware that she had kept herself informed of all this.
"And?"
"And, Periappa hopes you would join us this time," Kumaran said softly. "But you must know..."
"Arun will be there," she sighed softly. She took in the concerned look her brother threw at her, and squeezed his arm, saying, "Well, I will have to meet him at some time, don't I?"
