MAKE A WISH | ZUKO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: Zuko x Reader [fem]
PLOT: They’d deserved more time, perhaps even more than forever—but there was no telling what could’ve been, when all they had is now. loosely based on this request by anon
WARNINGS: death, angst
WORD COUNT: 1.1k
A/N: i like to wake up everyday and choose violence.
MY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Why don’t we have forever?” Izumi whispered, nestled in the nook of her mother’s arms, blissfully unaware of the infamous feeling of death that was slowly overtaking Y/N’s body.
The little girl shuddered, snuggling closer towards her favorite person in the world, who was soon to be no longer. She rested her chin on Y/N’s chest, memorizing how it lifted up and down with her short breaths.
Whilst her daughter was consumed with grief, Y/N herself felt unworldly. She’d been ill for nearly two years now, knowing full well that her time was terminal, and had finally come to terms with leaving her physical body.
Her only regret was that she’d be leaving behind a daughter and a husband. A daughter that was her absolute pride and joy, that she couldn’t imagine a lifetime without.
And a husband who’d been by her side since she was a mere child, playing in the local Fire Nation markets and gawking at the royal family. The royal family that she was now graced to be a member of.
“Forever is a strange word, my dear.” Y/N pressed a gentle kiss to the top of Izumi’s head, ruffling her hair in a motherly manner. “Why should we dwell on forever, when we have now?”
Y/N felt a tear begin to roll down her cheek, soon followed by twins and triplets of its own. She buried her face in Izumi’s shoulder, drowning her sobs in the fabric of her bright red, satin robes.
It was a strange feeling, knowing that she would no longer be conscious in the morning. Counting down the hours until her very last breath and waiting for complete darkness or enlightenment.
As a child, Y/N had never feared death. She viewed it as another step in the path of life, something that everyone would eventually have to endure. There was no point in antagonizing it while it followed her like a lonesome shadow.
Izumi seemed to still, quieting herself as she reevaluated her thoughts on the subject. Her little hands were trembling, shaking as they held the small paper crane between her fingers.
The item was delicately folded, a creation made by Zuko himself, something that had become sort of a tradition between him and Y/N over their many years of knowing one another.
He’d gifted his first paper crane to Y/N when they were only seven years old. Zuko was the esteemed prince, while she was merely a village girl—yet he had shown her kindness, and offered her the craft in the midst of a royal parade.
In her juvenile eyes, the crane was the most precious thing in her possession. Y/N had held onto it for the entirety of her adolescence, presenting it to Zuko when they’d finally been properly introduced in their teen years.
They’d been married shortly after that, having fallen in love in a short span of time, and conceiving Izumi only six years later. Y/N loved her life, she had had everything she could’ve possibly dreamed of—until she was diagnosed terminally ill by the royal medics.
“Do you know why your father makes them?” Y/N asked her daughter, frailly gesturing towards the thin origami. Her eyes were beginning to dull, the usual light dimming in response to her disease.
Izumi, on the other hand, was full of youth and energy. She had a full life ahead of her, free of the genetic wears that Y/N had had to endure throughout her entire lifetime.
She held up the small figurine, her thin eyebrows furrowing in confusion as she awaited her mother’s explanation. Y/N weakly grinned, closing her eyes tightly and reminiscing on her old days.
Before she could speak a word, their serenity was interrupted by a soft knock on the door, followed by the creaking sound of rich wood and bolts. Their party of two, had become one of three.
Zuko’s face was pale, his normally rosy cheeks were drained of color. His appearance could be compared to that of a ghoul. A spirit not quite present, yet also not fully ascended.
He approached his favorite girls, laying down on the vacant side of Izumi whilst he stretched an arm around the both of them. “Your Grandpa Iroh taught me how to paper fold when I was just as young as you.”
“He would say that if you made one thousand paper cranes out of love,” Zuko nuzzled Izumi’s nose, his free hand rubbing Y/N’s shoulder affectionately. “Any wish you’d dream of would come true.”
At that, Izumi’s curiosity began to spark. Her head perked up, suddenly being distracted from the melancholy mood. “What did you wish for then, father?” She tilted her head, wonder flowing through her veins.
Her father’s soft amber eyes grew distant, his gaze settling on the woman in his arms. “I wished for a better life, one full of love.” Zuko bit his lip, trying his best to keep his composure in front of Izumi. “And I think that wish came true.”
“I’m still young, my dear, and I still have a lot to learn—but the two of you have shown me more love than I’ve known in my life.” With tears beginning to form in his eyes, Zuko’s head lulled onto Y/N’s shoulder.
The words began to trail off, his answers no longer being spoken aloud, but through the gestures of memories and emotions. He didn’t need to explain his dreams—the three of them had experienced them, together.
Love had become evident in the royal family, their bloodline no longer being filled with hardships and anger. In the new era of peace, Zuko had unintentionally made it obvious to onlookers that their nation was built on stability and joy.
Things that would hopefully stay present after the inevitable loss of his people’s beloved Lady. Things that he’d keep ingraining in Izumi’s life even though he was losing one of his main sources of happiness. His main source of love.
“What about you, ‘Zumi?” Y/N croaked, her voice growing weaker by the second. Zuko could practically feel her heartbeat slowing to a halt, a final stop. “What do you want to wish for?”
As Y/N’s breathing grew rapid, her family’s eyes had run dry. Their tear ducts were empty, having no waterworks left to shed. Her own daughter’s face was barren whilst her breaths became no more.
Zuko’s hold was loose, her lifeless corpse feeling weightless in his arms. The room had grown cold, no longer filled with warmth and radiance. He buried his face in Izumi’s hair, gasping for air between his screams.
Every emotion hit him at once like a sudden storm, destroying every ounce of composure that he’d hoped he would have. Rather than Zuko being the comforting character, it was Izumi—who was expressionless, silent in her thoughts and features.
As she had made a wish, and with the knowledge of the outcome of their story, her wish would never come true. It just couldn’t. The fates can’t rewind death, the only thing to do is learn to live on.

Tumblr media
anon asked: hey!!! for your sleepover id love for you to do the song Orpheus under the influence by the Buttertones with sokka- if you cant no worries! love your work!
Tumblr media
pairing: sokka x reader! genre: enemies to lovers type beat warnings: UMM injury but not super described yk word count: 700 summary lyrics:
I know I'm tough on you But you keep popping my strings, that's not okay, not okay
Tumblr media
Why did your presence bother him so much? Sokka gathered up wood for him and his friends, picking branches off of trees and the fallen ones off the ground. It was as if Sokka had no filter whenever you were around.
He wanted you with him, and he didn’t want you there at the same time. Why did it have to be so confusing?
“Hey, Sokka, do you need some help?” You skipped over to the boy in question, who looked a bit lost in thought. He had just been thinking of you, and you happened to stumble towards him.
“Just- just go away.” He turned his back on you, promptly trying to ignore your presence as he continued gathering materials. Your presence would do nothing but distract him, and he didn’t need that.
“Oh. Okay. Just trying to help.” You mumbled a quick “sorry” before turning around swiftly on your heel. What was wrong with him? He sighed, rubbing his temples, as he listened to your footsteps grow farther and farther.
He leaned back, pulling his hair and groaning in frustration. He had no idea why he was acting this way. It couldn’t be that he didn’t like you; in fact, he had fantasies of you. You were always on his mind, even when he was asleep. That wasn’t a sign of hatred, it was a sign of love.
So what was going on? He momentarily stopped picking up a branch midway, lost in thought.
Was it that her presence automatically brought his guard up? Was she intimidating? Was... was he afraid of love? He shook his head, grabbing the branch and completely tossing it into the growing pile of wood he was making.
No. No, he wasn’t afraid of love, and he was going to make sure you knew that.
“Y/N!” he yelled, as loud as he could, desperate for your company once more. He needed to explain himself; he couldn’t leave it at that. He loved you.
He waited for a count of three.
One... two... three... Footsteps in the distance told him that you heard him, and you were coming back. Either that, or the fire nation soldiers had found him. He hoped it was the former.
“What’s-” you burst through the trees, gasping for air. You looked like you ran all the way back, and your hair was in a frenzy. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?” You ran your fingers through your head frantically, your eyes darting around as you looked for any sign of danger. Once you realized it was nothing, you flopped onto a boulder nearby, trying to catch your breath, wincing every so often.
“Woah, hey, are you... hurt?” he asked. The question was almost awkward; it trailed off at the end as he watched you grasp at your ankle.
“I’m okay, it’s okay.” You grit your teeth, turning to face him. “Why’d- why’d you call my name?” He ignored your question and proceeded to examine your ankle.
“You sure you’re okay?” He reached out tentatively but you swatted his hand away.
“Did you call me out here for no reason?” you asked, closing your eyes. Now that he thought of it, why had he called you? To confess? Was he ready for that?
“... No reason.” His arms hung awkwardly at his side, and the silence was loud.
“Are you serious?” you finally asked, gaping at him. He knew he looked pathetic. “It sounded serious? You sounded really... what’s the word?” You waved your hand around. “Desperate? Right after you made me leave you, too.”
“Yup. Sorry. No... no reason.” He was now realizing how confused you must be. What was he doing?
“I got hurt for no reason? You pushed me away, pulled me back, for no reason?” You looked understandably annoyed, and Sokka wished he could just tell you what was going on in his mind, but it was just too embarrassing. Better to save it for another time.
“So, you are hurt?” he asked, changing the subject and bringing the attention onto your ankle, and you grunted in annoyance.
“Maybe. But-”
“I’ll carry you back.” It was the least he could do. “Sorry.”
Why did your presence bother him so much? It was because he didn’t want to hurt you. He wasn’t afraid of being in love, he was afraid of hurting you like he always seemed to do.
He was an idiot: an idiot in love, but an idiot whatsoever.

life changing field trip
Tumblr media
summary: Zuko really does take people on the most interesting adventures
word count: 1320
a/n: so this was a request but i kinda added onto it so it was originally a ‘there was only bed fic’ but now it’s a fake dating spy fic and a ‘there was only one bed fic.’
“It’d be really helpful if we had someone on the inside to help us break through the borders,” Sokka said as he looked over a map of the earth kingdom city you were trying to free from the fire nation.
“Like a spy?” You questioned and his eyes lit up with excitement.
“Yeah, exactly! We need a spy! Thank you so much for volunteering for this mission, Y/n!”
“Wait no I didn’t-” However your protests went unheard as Sokka laid out a plan for this spy mission. “But Sokka we can’t just send Y/N into the city by herself. It’s too dangerous.” Katara glanced over at you with a look of concern.
“I know, that’s why Zuko’s going with her.”
“I- I am?” He looked as bewildered as you felt as he leaned over you to try and get a better look at Sokka’s ‘plan’. You knew why Sokka had chosen Zuko, a couple weeks ago you had made the misguided decision to tell him about your crush on the fire nation prince.
“This is so unfair. Why does everyone but me get to go on a life changing field trip with Zuko?” Toph complained from where she was sprawled out on the ground.
You crossed your arms, shooting a glare at Sokka, grumbling “It better not be ‘life changing.’”
“Your mission, should you choose to accept it-”
“I can choose not to go?”
“NO, Y/n you’re taking all the fun out of this! I’ve never gotten to plan a spy mission before.” You shared a look with Zuko as Sokka whined, he was enjoying this mission far too much.
Sokka straightened up, clearing his throat, “Anyway as I was saying before I was RUDELY interrupted,” He paused, shooting a glare at you, “You and Zuko will be impersonating a high ranking fire nation husband and wife.”
Your eyes widened, “Husband and wife as in a couple? Like dating?”
“As in married actually, but yeah you can pretend to be in a relationship for a couple of days, right?”
Zuko answered before you could finish processing your thoughts, “Of course. I mean it shouldn’t be too hard.”
You were painfully aware of Zuko’s hand on your lower back as he handed the forged invitations over to the guard, who didn’t even glance at them, before stepping aside and letting you in.
Zuko leaned down, his breath hitting the back of your ear as he whispered,“They’re not expecting trouble, we can use that to our advantage.”
“Or maybe that guy’s just really bad at his job.”
He nudged you with his shoulder, “That’s the commander over there, the information we need is most likely in his office. We just need a distraction so we can search for it.”
Your response died in your throat as the commander spotted you and began marching over to you. Zuko must have sensed your nerves as he grabbed your hand, lacing his fingers through yours and reassuring rubbing his thumb over the back of your hand.
“Ah you must be General Sorak.” He paused, his gaze shifting over to you, “And who is your guest?”
Zuko smiled at the commander, introducing you as his wife with the fake name Sokka had come up with. The commander smiled brightly at you before addressing Zuko again, “You’re visiting us during a very joyous time, in fact we’re throwing a masquerade ball tomorrow night to celebrate our victory. A maid will be over soon to show you to your room.” And with that he left, disappearing down a dark corridor. You glanced at Zuko out of the corner of your eye, “We’re staying for the ball, aren’t we?”
He shot you a playful grin, “Why the long face? Surely dancing with me can’t be that terrible of a fate, Love?” You turned to look at him only to immediately forget what you were going to say when you realised exactly how close he was. You felt light headed as he moved closer, his lips ghosting over yours only for him to abruptly pull away to speak to the maid you hadn’t noticed. His arm slipped around your waist as you followed the maid down the dark hallway to your room. Sending her a thankful smile over your shoulder as Zuko all but dragged you into the room. You felt your heart drop to your stomach as you took in the room, specifically the lone bed that stood in the centre of the room. Oh Sokka was going to be a dead man for forcing you to go through this.
It was nightfall before you knew it and now you were standing in front of the door to your room trying to convince yourself to go in. It had gotten to the point where you had seriously started considering if anyone would notice if you just slept outside when the door swung open revealing Zuko’s form leaning against the doorframe, “How long have you been out here?” You grimaced, shrugging at him, slipping under his arm and into the room. He closed the door, leaning against it, “What were you doing out there?”
“Oh you know, just thinking.”
He raised an eyebrow, an amused smile tugging at his lips, “About what?”
“Nothing.” You could feel the heat rushing to your face under his intense stare.
“So you stood out there for at least an hour just thinking about nothing?”
“Yes?” He pushed himself off the door, flopping down on the bed as his gaze followed you around the room.
You walked around to the other end of the bed, reluctantly lying down next to him.
Somehow you didn’t even notice your body subconsciously shifting closer to him until you were practically on top of him. His arm slipped around your waist, tugging you closer as you rested your head on his shoulder. “What are you doing?”
“You took all the pillows so I’m using you as one.” Absentmindedly tracing shapes on his chest as you answered him.
“Dance with me.” You tore your eyes away from the crowded ballroom to meet his gaze.
“Hate to disappoint but I can’t dance.” You gave him a tight lipped smile before returning to surveying the room. However you discovered that he wasn’t about to give in that easily as he stepped in front of you, taking your hands in his. “Then just let me lead.”
“An interesting thing to be stubborn about.”
He released your hands as his hands found your waist, gently tugging you closer to him, “I just want to dance with my wife, is that so much to ask?”
He took your silence as an answer, pulling you onto the dance floor with him, intertwining your left hand with his as his other hand settled on your lower back. The corners of his mouth turned up into a smile as he pulled you closer, “Rumour has it… I make you nervous.”
“W-who told you that?” He was almost uncomfortably close and you prayed that he couldn’t feel your heart racing.
“That’s not really the point, is it Sweetheart?” He leaned down slightly, his lips ghosting over yours for a brief moment before he pulled back.
You’d ended up on the other side of the room somehow and then he was lacing your fingers together and pulling you down the dark hallway and into an empty room.
“Where are we?”
“Commander’s office.”
You found the files detailing the city’s weak points pretty quickly, Zuko had been right, they weren’t expecting trouble.
“Zuko, come on, let’s go.”
“Wait I just need to do something first.”
“Wh-,” Whatever retort you had went unheard as his lips were suddenly on yours, kissing you passionately, your hands wrapping around his neck, pulling him closer.
Sokka had a smug grin plastered on his face as Zuko helped you up onto Appa’s saddle, “Soooo how was the mission?”
“It was.... Life changing.”

In too Deep
Hello again, I am back with another story and yes I have many stories that I need to finish and plan on doing so, but alas another idea has come to mind it must be told.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything in this story but the plot. And to thank you to Boreum Dal for allowing to do this story since it was inspired by her fic Radio Star, if you have not read this masterpiece of a fanfiction please do so.
Summary: Sakura’s life has always been one twist after another when life throws her another curve ball and if you add a rock star to it it will just get simpler right? Not.
This is rated M for swearing and possible lemony situations later on.
I suck at summaries, so I hope you are willing to give this story a chance please read and review.
This is called: In too Deep.
-
Prologue
She stepped into the cooling air of her apartment building as she walked over to the elevator doors slamming a thumb on the up button to send the bat signal for the lift. She looked around her noting that the lobby was completely empty besides herself as it should be for the middle of the night. She glanced down to the bag in her hand, to which she was holding on tightly, that held the answers to everything and a chocolate bar for later.
She began to tap her foot impatiently as she could hear the old elevator gears squeak and a grind as it stopped at every floor on the way down. They really needed to get it repaired. Finally, after a good five minutes, the doors sprang open and she stepped inside repeating the button pushing actions by selecting her floor, number 33, before the doors closed and up sprang the elevator,  her stomach rolled and protested the movement and she lowered her head in the palm of her hand as she took in deep breaths to calm it.
A few minutes later, it was time for to her to get off making her way to her door, which was a the very end of the hall. She smiled as she could ear the tiny little barks of her neighbor’s dog as she strolled by the door and reached into her pocket to pull out her key as she arrived at her door.
She smiled as she was greeted happy meows from her two cats, Jax and Kero, as she opened the door. She reached down to pet their furry heads before making her way deeper in to her apartment. Empty apartment that is. She placed her purse on the counter as she made a beeline to the bathroom, the cats following close behind. She opened the bag to pull out the box that said pregnancy test and let out a slow breath as she opened to read the directions on what she needed to as she had never taken one before. She looked up to see herself in the mirror and she could hardly recognize herself. Her green eyes were tired with dark circles under them, and her complexion was pale with little blotches of red every so often from her being so sick lately. Her hair was thrown into a messy ponytail with bits of hair scattered about. She broke eye contact with her ghastly and set about her task.
Once she was finished with her business she placed the test on the counter and began to clean up and washed her hands as she waited for the results. Hell she knew what the results were going to be without having to see it. She just new it as some one who has never been late for period and the bouts of sickness over the last two weeks, there is no other answer for it. She glanced down at her watch and no even thirty seconds had gone by and she was known for being patient, but this was down right torture.  She placed on of her fingers in her mouth as she began to gnaw on a finger nail.
She did not know what she was going to do, if this was positive as she was completely alone aside from her best friend and  she had just landed a new job with one of the nation’s biggest magazines: Jap Par as a photographer thanks to her best friend Tomoyo who worked there as a fashion reporter and heard of the job and had sent her the information almost immediately. Also she had not seen her now ex boyfriend, Kai, in several weeks and the last time they had did anything when they had gone out for the evening to a nice dinner and a nice bottle of wine and when they got home they drunkenly gave in to their desires and barely made it to the bedroom. That was a week before she came home to find him bed with a blond he had met in the club he had been to that night. She, sadly, was not too shocked to find him in this position as she was been suspecting him of cheating for quite sometime as he had done so many times before. After she threw him and the blond bimbo out she stripped the bed on the sheets throwing them away and did not sleep anywhere near that mattress until she bought a brand new one two days later. Of all places for him to do that it had to be at her apartment and that was the last and final straw.
The next day he had returned hoping to receive her forgiveness once more and this time she was not having it. Sure she forgave him, but that was a far as it was going to go.  She was not allowing to her heart to be stepped on once more because she could no longer take another broken heart.
She felt something on her arm and looked down to see her cat Kero sitting on the edge on the sink as he rubbed his head on her arm as if he was trying to console her and telling her it was going to be okay.  She smiled warmly at the cat before reaching over to pick up the test. She closed her eyes as she turned over the test taking a deep breath as she opened her eyes saw two bright pink lines staring back at her. She was pregnant. She blinked back tears as a new reality set over her being.
“Oh Kero,” She whispered brokenly into the silent bathroom. “What am I going to do?” As she sank down to the floor with the test in hand.

Another Bites the Dust! Syaoran and Akiri Broken up!
No one can seem to lasso up Syaoran’s heart
Syaoran and Akiri break up! Big fight in the middle of a movie debut! Tears and screaming could be heard from the two as many heart hateful word were exchanged and Akiri walked away in tears! Who will be Syaoran’s next victim?
This the fifth relationship that Syoaran has failed at….how many more can he take?
“Syaoran!”
He slid his finger across the screen of his phone as he went from one page to the next as many websites had the news of his latest break up on the front page. It had been a nightmare! As he went to flip to the next page he was suddenly staring at his empty hand. He looked up to see a heated glaring being sent his way by his manager and cousin Meiling as she pocketed the phone.
“Hey,” he growled as she came and sat down in the chair across from him. “I was reading-”
“I don’t care,” said Meiling as she crossed her arms. “I have been calling your name for the last five minutes for an answer to a question that I have repeated five times now.”
“Sorry,” He grumbled as he slid a hand through his chestnut brown locks trying to clear his head so he could focus on the matter at hand. “What was the question again?”
“You really need to clear your mind and  stay focus,” said Meiling softly. “ You have a very busy couple of months coming up with the tour and the dropping of new album and now with this break up I need you to be 100 percent.”
“I know,” said Syaoran as rubbed his eyes as he was dead tired from getting no sleep last night after getting home from the theater. All in the same week he had had 2 album signings, 3 television interviews, 1 movie premier, and  one very public break up and his body was ready to shut down. “I’m sorry I lost my cool last night, but finding her like that sent me over the edge.”
“I know honey,” she said as she laid a comforting hand on his arm. “But something like this can make you or break you and breaking you is one thing I will not allow to happen. You have worked way to hard.”
“I know one thing,” said Syaoran. “No more relationships for me,” He said. “I am done with them and I am done with love.”
“Don’t say that,” said Meiling sadly. “There is someone out there for you and someone who will treat you right. You have to get through all the bad apples before you find the best one.”
“No,” said Syaoran. “I mean it. I am completely done.” He turned back to the laptop that was opened in front of him as he attempted to change the subject back to what they originally were talking about. He had a tour coming up in eight weeks and he could not wait until he got on the road not caring if he ever came back to Tokyo because he would get to say good bye to it for three months.

There Was a Father (Chichi Ariki, 1942) by Yasujiro Ozu
Chichi Ariki was the last wartime feature of Ozu he produced before being sent to Singapore. Initially, he was supposed to make a propaganda film in Burma, but later went to Singapore for working with Indian nationalist and Nazi sympathizer Chandra Bose. However, Ozu seemed to be reluctant to work, and his film-making career has been halted for a few years from the moment he departed Japan.
Tumblr media
There was a father has no pieces of propaganda, and it is very important for getting an idea of how awful the Second World War was. Japanese were no like zombies from the American wartime propaganda. Even though the protagonist played by Ozu’s frequent collaborator Chishu Ryu says a few passionate words about the necessity to serve the country an always remember it, we see the simple poor people immersed in the problems which have no nationality or political reasons. No matter, Oriental or Occidental, the world is the same, in terms of people. They survive, they sometimes develop enormously deep and beautiful qualities and features - and we see in abundance in There Was a Father by Ozu.
Horikawa portrayed by Ryu is a unique man for the present time when the world people like him a lot. Despite being poor and having no hopes or designs for a better future for himself, he dedicates his life to provide everything to his son. Going through an awful tragedy when one of his students dies in the school, he takes all blame on his own shoulder. He is deeply affected by this drama that he judges himself too harshly deciding he has to leave the school forever, although it used to make him living when he had to raise his son alone without a wife who passed away.   With this tragedy, he draws the picture of the world completely. For the next decades, he instructs his son how to become a decent man and lives for his future. His soon develops deep respect to his father and he is eager to live with him again, it was in the early childhood before their paths parted. When the moment to spend some time together comes over, his father suddenly dies saying in prior he has done everything he could. He dies happy. The film is about this boundless humanism developed by mister Horikawa. In a visually modest and reserved manner, Ozu shows all his life after the death of wife. His dedication and surety are worth appreciation - the qualities very few men possess of. Chichi Akiri is about a truly beautiful man. It is a very pure story of real man Ozu admires. There are no twists in the plot, and many things look predictable. But Ozu makes the films about simple people’s life, their little dramas is what entertains him. There Was a Father gives nothing but warm feelings and emotions. It makes you think the simple things are obvious but so important! There Was a Father is a remarkable step in Ozu’s career that has helped him to make his film-making style complete. The features and themes of this film will result in beautiful Noriko Trilogy, Tokyo Twilight, Equinox Flower, Late Autumn, and other unmistakable Ozu’s works. This film marked a moment of Ozu’s career when you recognize this is a movie of him after seeing just a few shots - all the subsequent works of Ozu are just like that. Also, we can notice that by this moment Ozu has already invented “tatami shot”, his film-making trick I already mentioned while writing about Late Autumn. There Was a Father is certainly a very important film of the Japanese great master I suggest everybody to watch.

SKINNY LOVE | ZUKO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: Zuko x Reader [fem]
PLOT: Years and years of build up, only to lead to absolutely nothing. Y/N’s constant emotion was confusion, and there was no changing that when it came to Zuko’s feelings.
WARNINGS: angst
WORD COUNT: 1.6k
A/N: my best friend says he might have feelings for me, and i’m so stressed right now i’m going crazy. so here’s a little fic that literally explains our entire relationship and these are all my raw emotions ew. also this is almost word for word our conversation tonight
MY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Their cycle seemed to be infinite, running in circles on the same track over and over again throughout the course of their lifelong friendship. The friendship that had been more confusing than the most trivial question in the entire world.
Y/N had always considered feelings to be straightforward. Something that could be determined with a simple yes or no answer, rather than continuous strife and struggles, arguments and silence.
She knew what she felt, and she wanted other’s to know that. Communication was no fare for her when it came to anger, sadness, and love—especially when it came to love.
Zuko on the other hand had what some would call troubles in the aspect of emotions. He’d bottle up all of his stress and worries, bursting like a volcano when they’d release.
After years, decades of friendship and unspoken feelings, Y/N still didn’t know where she stood with the newly crowned Fire Lord. They’d danced around their relationship for what seemed like forever, him never truly speaking the words she’d always wanted to hear.
And after so many rounds of psychoanalyzing his words and phrases, the responses he’d give her after she’d try her best to pour her heart out to him, Y/N was beginning to grow sick of their routine.
It wasn’t that she didn’t love him anymore, she was just so unbelievably tired of it all. Peace was the thing she needed most. Inner peace with herself, her appearance, her confidence.
All the things that she’d never fully realized due to her constant focus on Zuko and only Zuko. The things that made someone unique, what made them them. She was lacking them, and the only way to grow was to distance herself.
So, distance was what she gave him. Y/N moved around the world, never settling in one nation, finding new cultures and traditions to enjoy and bringing them back with her to the Fire Nation every now and then.
During her little conquest, Zuko had found his place beside Mai. Comfortable in his own little bubble, never taking any risks outside of the familiarity of his daily life. He hadn’t grown up—that was the first thing Y/N had come to notice as her feelings were reborn.
It’d taken her two years to move on from him, two years to find love for herself and take interest in people other than her best friend—but the minute she heard that he ended his relationship with Mai, they’d come flying back.
All of her former insecurities pounded in her mind, screaming in her inner monologue, refusing to give her a single second of silence. Y/N was out of breath, completely lost in the sea of her own thoughts.
She and Zuko had stayed in contact over the years of her adventure. Constantly writing letters back and forth, telling each other about their day, their new friends, and whatever was remotely interesting in their lives.
Although she hadn’t physically seen him in so long, Y/N still felt a connection to him. A connection that pulled her like a magnet the minute he stood before her, smiling his dopey, crooked grin.
When he’d wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into the tightest hug she’d ever been a part of—Y/N’s heart quite literally dropped, falling out of her body, and rolling out into the ocean.
Her chest was tight, it was almost as if she felt like she was choking on a food that was stuck in her throat. Something that was refusing to come out, no matter how hard she tried to say those three little words—I love you.
And Zuko, himself, hadn’t settled her storm by any means. If anything, he’d encouraged it to rage on, encouraged it to continue to torment and demolish all the self respect she’d grown.
Whilst Y/N had jokingly spoken out the idea of them being together, he’d practically driven her to insanity. “What if I wasn’t joking, Zuko?” She wondered, freezing in disbelief at what she was saying. “What if I did feel that way?”
In response, Zuko simply laughed. His eyes pinched shut, a wide smile overtaking his mouth in amusement at her curiosity. “I don’t believe you, Y/N.” He rolled his eyes, playing with their intertwined hands. “You don’t actually feel that way.”
At that, a light scoff escaped Y/N’s lips, her face becoming contorted and annoyed. “Okay.” She started, shaking her head at the conversation she was about to trigger. “Well, what would your response be if I did?”
Zuko’s looked in her direction, his amber eyes meeting her steely ones. “You’re really baiting me, aren’t you?” His face went a little pale at her slight nod, a large gulp running down his neck.
“It wouldn’t be a no.”
Y/N’s smile dropped, her expression growing blank as her heartbeat began to jump out of her chest. What he’d just hinted at was her getting what she’d always wanted, the thing that she’d dreamed of since she was only five years old.
Both of them seemed to be frozen in the moment, neither knowing exactly what was going on as they weren’t aware of what their feelings for each other were. Their lives had become so different, they’d become so different.
Zuko was a leader now, a person that needed to have stability and assurance in his life. He was a traditionalist, he needed rules and regulations to live in harmony with himself and his people.
Y/N, however, was a free spirit. She knew what she wanted in life and she’d be sure to make it happen. Commitment and social standards weren’t on her agenda, as she didn’t have one.
But when it came to Zuko, Y/N would do anything. She’d drop her goals and dreams if it’d amount to one minute of true happiness in his arms. Her love for him had grown toxic, it was poison in her brain.
Poison that could also be considered pure. A feeling of actual and real love for the prince that she’d known for her entire life. Everything about him contradicted itself, the stress he made her feel was practically indescribable.
“Are you being serious?” Y/N was on the verge of hysterically laughing, she was so appalled by Zuko’s response. Her face was bright red, dancing on the line of embarrassment and anger.
Zuko let go of her hands, his palm running over the back of his neck. He shrugged, sheepishly smiling as he looked everywhere but at her. “Yeah.” He sighed, pursing his lips. “That seemed like the wrong answer.”
“No.” Y/N’s neck snapped to turn to him, her eyes searching for his own. Her voice became breathless, her lungs nearly gasping for air. “Go back. Are you being serious, right now, that your answer wouldn’t be a no?”
As Zuko shook his head to signify that he wouldn’t reject her question, Y/N almost toppled over in shock. “So, figuratively speaking, if I had feelings for you—you wouldn’t reject me straight on?”
Thirty seconds was what it took for Zuko to answer her. Half a minute of earth shattering patience that Y/N had to endure before she heard his simple words. “No, of course not.”
“But what does that mean?” Y/N was now itching for closure. She had to find out what this all meant. What it meant for their past, their present, and the future of their relationship.
“I would have no reason to reject you, that’s what it means.” He simply shrugged, expecting the conversation to be over by now. The talk of feelings was wearing Zuko out, causing a large yawn to form on his features.
He was tired, exhausted at the discussion of romance and secret pining. Communication simply wasn’t his strong suit, and while Y/N fully knew that, she continued to press further.
“You don’t get it, Zuko. You’re confusing me.” She explained, waving her hands out in front of her face. “So, you wouldn’t reject me, but you also wouldn’t say yes to a confession?”
Y/N was pushing him to his emotional limit. The mental blockade that always formed in his brain, beginning to cancel out his words. Zuko’s headspace was starting to empty, sleep being the only goal in mind.
“Those do really contradict, don’t they?” His eyes had begun to drop, opening and closing. Zuko’s body was now resting on Y/N’s, most of his weight being supported by her stature.
Y/N led her best friend towards his living quarters, still having a million questions at the tip of her tongue—whilst only one made its way out. “What does it all mean? You never said what it means.”
As she opened the door to his bedroom, Zuko let go of his hold on her. He gave her a toothless smile, weary from his low energy, and closed the door, giving her a final glance through the crack of light.
“It means that I’m tired, Y/N.” His eyes held her gaze, sending her waves of confessions in a single glance. “I’m tired and I can’t give you all that you need right now. Perhaps we can continue this in the morning.”
But with morning, came no confessions. No discussion of what had gone down the night before. It was as if they’d never been together at all, as if it was just another night between two platonic friends.
In reality, Y/N didn’t believe that she’d ever be worthy enough for someone like Zuko. Someone who seemed to be so unbelievably perfect for her in every way, shape, and form.
Maybe the best way to end this constant cycle would be to disappear. To leave him be, in his own happy little life, away from herself. She’d learned to live without him once, there was no way she wouldn’t be able to do it again.
The only problem was did she really want to live a life without him?

summary: you really thought katara would let you go on a dangerous mission?
Tumblr media
You and the gang were hiding somewhere in the fire nation, trying not to get spotted. All of you tried your best to lay low, and you set up camp someplace deep into the woods. At this point, every single member of your group were wanted fugitives, and most people would recognize you in public, so the six of you had to be sneaky.
Eventually, staying out of sight proved to be no longer an option.
"Guys... we're running out of supplies..." Aang said, walking up to the rest of the group holding an empty sack that used to hold food and tools. Everyone was huddled around the campfire as it was time for dinner, and you all exchanged worried glances, leaving your food half-eaten.
"I spotted a fire nation camp not too far from here, we could steal some stuff from them," you commented, and Sokka nodded in approval, already formulating a plan.
"It's best if only one of us go... preferably someone who's stealthy." Sokka glanced at you, knowing that stealth was your strong suit. You nodded, understanding that you were ther best shot.
Besides, it wasn't fun without a bit of risk, right?
"I guess I'll go." You stood up, ready to face the dangerous mission ahead of you. Determination already set in your jaw, you reached out to grab the empty sack from Aang, but Katara grabbed your arm, effectively making you freeze. You turned to face her, tying not to think about the fact that her hand was on you, this is physical touch, she is willingly touching you. "K- Katara..." you started.
"Don't you dare go." Her grip on your arm tightened. "It's risky and..." she faltered, "I just don't want you to get hurt."
"Since when did you have to worry? Hey, after all, it's me!" You gestured to yourself jokingly, but Katara looked to the ground, swallowing.
"I'm worried... I don’t think you should go. I'm sure there's a safer way," she said. You pulled her chin up to face you.
"Katara... trust me. I'll be fine. Even if I do get hurt, you can totally fix me right back up."
"I don't want anything to happen to you..." Her voice trailed off, perhaps thinking about what could happen. "I like you... more than just friends, and I can't ever see you hurt."
Oh. That... wasn't what you expected. It was clear that the others hadn't expected that either, judging from their wide-open jaws.
You had reciprocated feelings, but you weren't sure she felt the same... until now.
"I didn't say anything before, since I didn't want to ruin our friendship... but now-" A quick glance to your lips was enough. You cut her off with a swift kiss, effectively shutting her off.
"What did I say? I'll be okay, I swear. If I die, I know you'll kill me." You looked her in the eyes, satisfied with the blush growing on her cheeks.
"Ye- yeah. You better come back, all in one piece." She tried to threaten you in her flustered state, but to you it was nothing but cute. You smirked, and hopped onto Appa.
"I plan to."

matchmaker
Tumblr media
summary: maybe Iroh’s meddling in Zuko’s love life wasn’t so bad after all.
a/n: written for the lovely @fromthewatertribe‘s 1K celebration wirh prompt 19:  “Okay, so, like, I might, well, it’s not that I might, it’s that I do, I, just, shit! Okay, well, you see— I am kind of absolutely in love with you.”
word count: 1.6K
warnings: fluff, swearing, iroh meddling in people’s lives
Feelings were a very strange thing, last year the mere thought of Zuko was enough to make your blood boil with rage and now the mention of his name sent your heart fluttering. You had it bad for the former disgraced fire nation prince and he had no idea.
Or so you thought....
Zuko had been excited to go see his Uncle in Ba Sing Se, however, he was now regretting the decision as Iroh seemed determined to play matchmaker much to the young fire lord’s horror. “Uncle, I am not going on a date with some girl I’ve never met before. I came here to see you, not to waste my time going on dates.” He sighed in exasperation, hiding his face in his hands.
“I see, well what about a girl you have met before?”
He glanced up at Iroh, a feeling of unease flooding his body as he took in the mischievous smile on his Uncle’s face, “If you’re talking about Jin-”
“Oh no no, I was actually talking about a different girl. What’s her name again? The pretty one who travels with the Avatar, you always seemed so taken with her, Zuko.”
Zuko’s face turned red as he realised who Iroh was referring to, “Y/n?”
“Ah yes, that was her name. Why don’t you invite her to come have tea with you at my tea shop?”
“I am not asking Y/n on a date.” He seethed, embarrassed by his Uncle’s suggestion.
“Now nephew, I never said anything about a date. But now that you’ve mentioned it... I’ll just say you could do a lot worse than her. She seems like a nice girl, I think she would be good for you. Just think about it.” And with that he left Zuko in the living room to sit in shocked silence.
Seizing the paper in front of him, he wrote a message addressed to you, rolling the paper up and attaching it to the messenger hawk before he could regret his decision.
There was a fire nation hawk sitting on your window sill when you woke up, sat perfectly still giving you this look like it was appraising you before it let out this awful screeching noise. You moved over to it, gingerly taking out the message it was carrying and unrolling it. You recognised the handwriting as your eyes scanned over the message, he was inviting you to come see him in Ba Sing Se. Your face broke out into a smile and you looked over to see the hawk still staring at you, who knew that an animal could look so judgemental. You waved at it with the letter, “You can go now, if you want.” It didn’t make a move and you nodded, “Or you can stay there and keep creepily staring at me, that’s cool too.” You pulled the suitcase out from under your bed and began packing for your visit to Ba Sing Se.
Zuko tapped his fingers against the wooden window sill impatiently as his golden eyes searched the skies for any sign of the hawk returning. He sighed, his shoulders dropping in disappointment, how stupid could he be? Asking you to come all the way to Ba Sing Se just to see him, of course you wouldn’t respond, after everything he had done in the past to you and your friends. There was a knock at the door and Iroh went to answer it, laughing before calling out to Zuko, “Nephew, I believe it’s for you.” He walked over to the door, expecting to see Jin or some unfamiliar Earth Kingdom girl.
“Hi, I uh got your message.” He froze, eyes slowly lifting from the floor to your face.
“You came.” You let out a laugh at his dumbfounded expression.
“You asked me to, didn’t you?”
He nodded, still staring at you with wide eyes, flinching when Iroh laid a hand on his shoulder, “Aren’t you going to ask our guest to come in, Zuko?” He turned to you, offering you a kind smile, “You’ll have to forgive my nephew, he’s not very good at talking to beautiful women.”
Zuko seemed to snap out of whatever trance he was in, “UNCLE!” His face flushed red, “Um do you wanna come in? Let me take your bag to the guest room.” He reached for your suitcase, his fingers brushing against yours as he did, you let go of the bag feeling the heat rush to your face. Zuko’s face turned even redder as he led you down the hall to the guest room, opening the door and placing your suitcase inside. He turned to you, “I’m sorry about my uncle, he can be a little overbearing sometimes.”
You sent him a soft smile, “Don’t be, he seems nice.”
He nodded awkwardly, “Do you want to go on a walk with me? I could um show you around?”
“Sure, sounds great!”
A smile stretched across his features and you headed outside with him.
Ba Sing Se was beautiful in the autumn, the leaves starting to turn orange and gold. You shivered in the harsh October wind, Zuko noticed this, offering you his arm, “Firebenders tend to emanate heat.” You slipped your arm through his, thankful for having a reason to be close to him.
You leaned your head on his shoulder as you walked, “Why were you so surprised to see me?”
He cleared his throat, “Uh well you know, I just didn’t expect you to actually show up.” He paused, looking down at you, “I’m really glad you’re here.”
It didn’t feel like you’d been out for long but the sky was slowly getting darker and the streetlamps had turned on. You nudged Zuko with your shoulder to get his attention, “We should probably head back, I think it’s getting late and I’ve just realised I have no idea how to get back from here.”
He grinned, taking your hand and lacing your fingers together, leading the way back to the apartment. The walk back to his Uncle’s was shorter than you had expected or maybe it wasn’t and you were too wrapped up in Zuko to notice. Either Way, before you knew it you were standing outside the apartment with him. “Y/n, there’s something I need to tell you.” You stepped closer, rubbing your thumb over the back of his hand.
“I ha-,” But the front door burst open before he could continue, Iroh beaming down at you.
“Ah the lovebirds have returned! Come inside, the food’s getting cold!”
Zuko’s eyes widened, jumping away from you, “I- we weren’t- we’re not lovebirds, Uncle!” His face growing increasingly redder, following Iroh into the apartment as he spoke.
You kept replaying the moment in your head, wondering what Zuko had been trying to tell you. You had tried to ask him several times but whenever you spoke to him, his face flushed and he found some excuse to not talk to you. “Zuko can I tal-” You were cut off by Zuko exaggeratory yawning, “Oh is that time?” You turned to look at the clock and he dashed off to his room. “I wouldn’t take it personally.” You glanced over to see Iroh staring at you thoughtfully, “My nephew isn’t very good at expressing how he feels. I believe that’s why he finds it so hard to talk to you, he feels a great deal for you.”
He placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder, “Go talk to him.” He stepped away into his own room leaving you alone in the kitchen and you found yourself subconsciously moving towards the room Zuko had disappeared into.
You raised your hand to knock before thinking better of it but the door swung open before you could duck out of sight. “Y/n?”
You smiled sheepishly at him, moving to walk away down the hallway but before you could leave his hand closed around your wrist, pulling you back to him. “No, stay. I was um just coming to find you.” He bit his bottom lip, thoughtfully before stepping back into the room, pulling you in with him.
You sat down on the edge of his bed as he started pacing up and down in front of the door, occasionally pausing to look at you. “Okay, so, like, I might, well, it’s not that I might, it’s that I do, I, just, shit! Okay, well, you see— I am kind of absolutely in love with you.” He blurted out, staring at the ceiling, you could practically see the nerves radiating from him.
“You’re in love with me?”
He nodded, still refusing to look at you, “Have been for the past year but I was too much of a coward to tell you.”
You got up, moving over until you were directly in front of him, “Zuko, will you look at me?”
His eyes flickered down to you for a moment before staring upwards again, “Why does it feel like I’m about to get rejected?” He sighed, before meeting your eyes.
You placed a hand on his cheek and he subconsciously leaned into your touch, “Are you sure that you have feelings for me?” You asked, feeling the knot in your chest tighten.
“The only thing I’ve ever been sure about is you.”
Your hands moved to his neck pulling him against you as your lips slotted against his. He was frozen until you pulled away, “You- you kissed me.”
“Well yeah, because I love you too.” His lips tugged upwards into a smile as his hands wrapped around your waist pulling you back into him, reconnecting your lips once more.
