Regrann from @empressak - #Akfacts Have you ever given a sister a smile & compliment on the train, store or event and she grilled the hell out of you? 😂😂😂😩😩😩😩 my whole heart hurts after that. I am starting to understand that not everyone is like me, and it’s not a right or wrong thing, but black women have different experiences. For example, in NYC, for some, having a grill or “bad gyal” disposition is a self defense mechanism, you never know if someone telling you “your shoe is cute” is shade. Sometimes, women just aren’t accustom to genuine love, and I’m always shocked when women are shocked when they are given a compliment (“who me?” —“yes you”), hunny there are black women out here who aren’t haters...so lighten up 🌻 - #regrann

😂😂😂😂 #Akfacts yo so I go on Facebook this morning (I have an account but only go to check my class announcements) & saw this old video & decided to read some comments Here goes: 1) my dad is arguing with someone who claims to be me in the video😂😂😂😂 "I did not birth you" (parents don't need to be on social media). 2) people arguing over my nationality 🇻🇨 (linguistically our dialect/accent are similar to JA, but not the same) 3) people misinterpreting it as being cocky (that's why my videos should stay on my page, only y'all get my witty personality😩 ) 4) people think I'm bashing mixed women (😳🤔)-- 5) the majority of people understood my point 🙌🏿 and I saw a sense of black pride from black women (my work is done) 👑 6) one person said my cheekbones clearly shows european mixture 😑😑😂😂😂😂 The Internet is a MESS! 😂😂😂 #UnapologeticallyAfrican

@empressak ••• I get a lot of DMs about this. Folks feeling behind, depressed, even suicidal. And it doesn't help coming on social media where everyone is "rich, perfect, successful, happy". I remember a couple years ago crying myself to sleep I felt behind. I know now that I didn't get what I wanted because it wasn't what I NEEDED. I needed to build character, humility and to see LIFE beyond man made paradigms. I had to learn to be confident in me, cease comparing myself, set me own goals, timelines and deadlines.
