If you know how to cook well, at some point you will take the fanciest thing you know how to make, mash it into paste, and eat it on toast
i stg culinary students have the most feral fuckin’ diets i’ve seen in some time we’re so obsessed with graded food but have so little time for self care that we more or less eat like fattened raccoons that live behind a michelin restaurant
to date i have eaten chicken supreme with jus lie out of a plastic soup container, a whole potato baked with ketchup on it, and a chocolate mousse and chiffon mini cake with decorative ganache using my hands and a swiss army knife

I am once again asking you to discuss Irish mythology asoiaf with me... please your grace, I am a simple woman with simple needs
Okay one of the rabbit holes that I love going down and over-thinking about is ASOIAF’s take on the otherworld. While the concept of an otherworld appears in many Indo-European mythologies, GRRM draws the most influence from Celtic myths. I think most people know about how GRRM said that the Others are inspired by the aos sí (aka the sídhe), a supernatural race that lives in the Gaelic Otherworld. The aos sí are also connected to the changeling myths, changelings being babies that were taken by these magical folk and replaced with something else (see the similarity with how Craster’s sons are taken by the Others). This stealing of the babies was usually punishment for trespassing or committing some other offense. A large part of the aos sí mythos involve them being extremely territorial, only becoming aggressive when someone invades their home. This characteristic of the aos sí has inspired the theory that the reason that the Others in ASOIAF are angry is because some sort of transgression was committed against them. I don’t think that the Others are a one-to-one for the aos sí, but GRRM could certainly take the territorial characteristics of those mythological creatures and use it as influence for the Others. The main similarity that is confirmed between the two is just that the Others are supposed to have the same sort of haunting beauty.
So, back to the otherworld. An element of otherworld myths is that it exists alongside the edge of our world, which reminds me a lot of how the Wall is described as the “end/edge of the world”. There’s also a recurring theme in otherworld stories of an otherworldly woman beckoning heroes toward her, which sounds very similar to the tale of Night’s King and the corpse queen. Speaking of heroes that enter the otherworld, one such story is the Irish tale of the Voyage of Bran (different Bran than the Welsh Brân the Blessed), in which a man named Bran embarks on a quest to Emain (one of the names of the Irishh otherworld), which is a place of lasting spring and summer. Another story of a journey to an otherworld is the Welsh tale of Branwen, the sister to Brân the Blessed, who travels to Annwn, and finds the survivors of a great battle as well as the severed head of her brother. Most otherworlds are typically characterized by being bountiful and paradise-like places, very different from what we would expect a place called the Land of Always Winter to be like. However, the concept of a magical realm existing alongside the non magical realm is still there with the LOAW.
What also interests me is how the otherworld in Athurian legend, Avalon, was the title of the book that GRRM was working on when he came up with the idea for ASOIAF. Avalon was going to take place in GRRM’s Thousand Worlds series, and I wonder if it was also going going to contain otherworld elements. Elements that GRRM then transferred over to ASOIAF.
Anyway, this is ramble-y, I just think otherworld mythology and its influence in ASOIAF is really neat. Especially since there are a lot of Brans in these stories (and I didn’t mention it, but spiritual trees are also common in otherworld myths too). Considering GRRM has said that the final two books with take us “farther north than we’ve ever been before” (the furthest place north we’ve been is the Frostfangs), I’m pretty sure we’re going to see the “Other”world in TWOW and/or ADOS, and I can’t wait to see his take on it.
#speaking of mythology influences in asoiaf. one day i gotta talk about jon snow odin symbolism#asoiaf#land of always winter#ask#leftenantjopson

what does your tags means? like mama who bore me etc
All of my tags have very specific meaning to me or/and invoke certain feelings. I have a lot of tags so I'll just do some off the top of my head-if I miss some you want to know more about let me know 💓
Mama Who Bore Me - Reference to a song of the same name from the musical Spring Awakening (which I have never seen but I have heard the song lol) Key lyrics being "Mama who bore me, Mama who gave me no way to handle things, who made me so sad" invokes feelings of grief and anger at a severed relationship with my mother. A mother wound that does not heal.
Filth Teaches Filth - A reference to an excerpt of Elektra from an Oresteia a Greek tragedy. I'd recommend looking it up because it's amazing, it's also in my "Elektra" tag, but basically Elektra's mother is saying that she (Elektra) sucks and Elektra replies that filth teaches filth. Basically saying her mother made her what she is. I use this one to for things that remind me of intergenerational trauma and the cycle of abuse.
She Gives Them Butterflies Bats Her Cartoon Eyes- A lyric from Lana's song Carmen. Basically for anything that reminds me of the sugarbaby aesthetic. A croquettish girl who plays the role of men's fantasies, chameleon soul, probably a little unaware of her own downfall or at peace with it, relies on the kindess of strangers, buying into her own con
Feminine Horror - Anything that reminds me of women being made into monsters for experiencing basic human emotions, wants and needs. Or women themselves internalizing that label of evil men put on them for having an internal voice of their own, for being more than dolls, aka a "bad woman"
When a House is Both Hungry and Awake Every Room Becomes a Mouth - For the idea or feeling of a house becoming synonymous with the pain and trauma that has taken place inside it, becoming a visual for the abusive dynamic that takes place inside it. Gothic. Seperates the people in it from the outside world, feeds on the people within it. The "house" meaning the system of abuse always wins and the people always suffer. Think Hill House, Adderdale Hall (Crimson Peak), Foxworth Hall (Flowrs in the Attic), etc
Rancid and Delicate - Reference to Nicole Dollanger's song Alligator Blood. For anything that feels creepy, gross or unsettling but in a way that includes tradionally girlish, doll-like, child-like or cutesy elements.
My Heart Is Like A Haunted House - Reference to a song by the same name by Florence Welsh. I love the visuals of that. Of someone's soul being filled with ghosts, some their own and maybe some of other people, possesing their feelings and holding their life up. The ghosts of past eating up the present, like they feel it's owed to them. This tag is for anything that reminds me of my own ghosts.
Who Is The Lamb and Who is The Knife - From Florence Welsh's song Rabbit Heart. For unhealthy relationships about control where one does violence and one accepts it. But the control may varry. In some instances the victim accepts the violence on purpose to be in control of the pain and therefore the relationship.
To Unbecome - For anything that reminds me of the feeling of ones selfhood falling away from them. A dizzying feeling of becoming something or someone else.
(She Screams) - A reference to a specific screenshot from Possesion during the subway freakout where the captions read (she screams). Sometimes the societal pressure of constantly having to preform womanhood and femininity to be only somewhat treated as human is too much and ya gotta scream and go insane.

The Wiccan Triple Goddess
The Goddess represents the feminine, nurturing side of Deity -intuitive, creative, and magical. She is the inner nature of Deity -the origin of the external Universe.
Thus the Goddess is the Creator, the Source - the God emerges from Her, when She sets the Universe into motion. The God is the Goddess’ Divine Child, formed from Her inner nature, Her “Other Self” as the Vangelo delle Streghe puts it. The God is also the Divine Consort, Whose union with the Goddess describes existence as we know it.
In this sense, the Goddess and the God are the polar forces also termed Yin and Yang. Yin, the Feminine, spiritual, emotive aspect of Deity which is within all things and Whose presence gives all things life. Yang the Masculine, physical, volatile aspect of Deity which manifests in motion and action and Whose permutations build up the outer form of things.
In Wicca, the Goddess is primarily revered through Her form as the Triple Goddess. As the God is often represented by the Sun, the Goddess is often represented by the Moon, and its three phases are taken as instructive as to the nature of Her being; the Waxing Moon representing creation and inspiration, embodied in the Maiden Goddess. The Full Moon representing fruition and sustenance, embodied in the Mother Goddess. And the Waning Moon representing fulfilment and endings embodied in the Crone Goddess.
THE MAIDEN
The Maiden is the Young Goddess of Spring and new beginnings. She is the Goddess of the Dawn, of youthfulness, the anticipation of life and fresh potential. The Maiden is the Goddess of art, creativity and self-expression of beauty, intelligence, and skill. The Maiden is manifest in action and self-confidence, exploration and discovery. She is sometimes called the Virgin. The term virgin in this instance does not mean physical virginity, it means that the young Goddess is independent - She is responsible for Her own actions, She knows who She is and does not answer to anyone but Herself. The Maiden is aware of Her sexuality and can either hold it at bay or abandon Herself to it. As the Huntress and Mistress of the Woodlands, She is both a friend and companion to all young creatures and a skilled hunter. She is the armed keeper of the Universal Laws of Balance and can mete out punishment swiftly and dispassionately if needed.
You may experience the Goddess in Her form as Maiden when you look upon a newborn child or experience a beautiful sunset. She is the continuation of all life, gifting us with the ability to find delight in the simple pleasures of the world – a butterfly in summer, sunlight on water, the stillness of a forest – all are within the realm of the Maiden Goddess. The Maiden’s magick is strongly connected to Nature and natural magick; She can inspire you with new ideas or lead you along a path that is new to you. She can give you a fresh new way to look at something. The Maiden may make Her presence known to you mentally without warning when you least expect it. She shows us the way to spiritual centeredness, running ahead of us enticing us to follow Her down the path that we fear the most - the way that leads us through the labyrinth of our minds into our own subconsciousness.
The Waxing Moon is the Maiden's Moon. Her colours are white and pink symbolic of innocence and newness. The Maiden loves wild flowers especially white ones. The Maiden's animals are all wild animals, especially the Owl and the Deer.
Maiden Goddesses:
Artemis - (Greek) eternal Virgin Goddess, Lady of the forests and hunting, and also of birth.
Blodewedd - (Celtic) This Spring Goddess was created by magic from nine spring flowers to be the wife of Llew Llaw. This got around the curse Arianhod had placed upon her son preventing him from taking a human wife.
Brigid - (Celtic) In her maiden aspect this Goddess is honoured at the festival of Imbolc which celebrates the first stirrings of Spring.
Chalchihuitlicue - Wife of Tlaloc, the God of Rains for the Aztec, was called the Precious Jeweled Lady, and had in her aspects associated with the Maiden like flowers, spring and the beauty of youth.
Diana - (Roman) Goddess of the Crescent Moon and the Hunt. She is the virgin Goddess of childbirth and women. Oak groves are sacred to Diana.
Flora - (Roman) The Goddess of flowering plants, especially those that bore fruit. Her festival, the Floralia, took place in April or early May and was marked with dancing, drinking, and flowers.
Freya - (Nordic) This Nordic fertility Goddess is linked with spring growth and flowers.
Hebe - (Greek) The Goddess of eternal youth and Spring.
Kore - (Greek) Kore is an alternative name for the Greek Goddess Persephone.
Ostara - (Celtic) Painted eggs and white rabbits are sacred to Ostara, the Celtic Goddess of Spring, fertility and rebirth. Her symbols have been incorporated into the Christian celebration of Easter.
Ninniane - Also called Nimue, in the Arthurian myth. She was Merlin's protege and was courted by him. Nimue locked Merlin in a cave to ward off his constant advances.
Parvati - (Hindu) Maiden of affirmations and love, She became Shiva's, the Lord of Destruction, mate.
Persephone or Proserpina - Persephone means maiden. She was the daughter of Demeter, who was kidnapped by Hades and reigns with him in the Underworld, for the dark half of the year. Spring arrives when Persephone leaves Hades and joins her Mother.
Rhiannon - (Celtic) Maiden who is the "Divine Queen of the Faeries". She is a Goddess of movement and change, who remains steadfast and comforting in times of crisis and loss.
THE MOTHER
The Mother aspect of the Triple Goddess is perhaps the easiest for humans to understand and identify with. The image of the physical mother caring for, nurturing, protecting and loving her children is easily translated to the Mother Goddess. She is associated with confident adulthood and parenthood, She is summertime and the ripening of crops, She is procreation of all things earthly and universal, She is the highest point of all cycles and the sustainer of the Universe. She is the fullness of life, She turns the Wheel of all the seasons, and is the repository of all knowledge. She is the Earth Mother and the Sky Mother who walks beside us into the Labyrinth of Mysteries. The Universe is Her child and She loves and cares for it, providing it with inexhaustible resources from within Herself, even as a mother nurses Her infant from the milk of her breasts.
Her colour is red, the colour of blood and the life-force that courses through us all. Her season is summer and Her Moon is Full. Her symbol is the Cauldron, the churning pot of regeneration. The Mother Goddess rules the Sabbats of Beltane, Litha and Lammas. She shares Winter Solstice with the Maiden and the Crone.
The Mother Goddess teaches us to accept responsibility and to understand the consequences of our own actions. She will guide us towards self-discipline and patience, so that we may grow spiritually into balanced adulthood. She teaches us to reach out to others with loving energy, and to spiral into our Divine centre to both give and receive love. All acts of love are Her rituals. She does not want us to live lives filled with deprivation or chained to addictions, excesses or other forms of self- harm. The Mother Goddess actively works magick to bring us into harmony, happiness and freedom. Just like a human Mother, she wants the very best for us and will help us. All we need to do is reach out to Her. The Mother Goddess nurtures all creation and is filled with love for all, yet, like a real mother, She will not hesitate to mete out discipline when necessary. Work against Her laws of Universal balance, portray yourself as one who has all the answers or is spiritually enlightened without having done the background work of self-discipline, self- understanding, and responsibility, and She will bring you back to reality!
Mother Goddess magick is most powerful at the Full Moon. Call upon Her for spells involving fruition, protection, healing, protection, guidance, marriage or life partners, gardening, animals, choices, peace, psychic direction and spiritual awakening.

THE CRONE
The Crone represents the Goddess in Her aspect as Elder. The Crone is the Wise Woman, the Witch, the Matriarch. The Crone is the Goddess of Death, and magic, and the Spirit realm. She is the Goddess of Wisdom, visions, and guidance. Hers is the height of spiritual power, for She is the Great Sorceress Who creates Her will through magic. Goddess of Transformation, the Crone is the Destroyer Who dissolves outmoded forms, allowing new growth to occur.
The Crone Goddess aspect of the Triple Goddess may be the least understood and feared of the three aspects. The Crone deals with the end of cycles and death; She has been called the Terrible Mother, the Dark Mother, the Hag and the Wise One. She is the gateway to death and re-birth, Her wise council teaches us spiritual completion, and the deepest of all mysteries - that without death there is no rebirth. Her cauldron awaits each of us, “All things living are mine own, from me they come, to me they go.” The Crone Goddess is winter, night, outer space, the abyss, menopause, and the advancement of age. She is the natural end of all cycles.
Her colour is black, the absorber of all light, and the colour of darkness where all life rests before rebirth. Her season is winter and Her Moon is the Waning Moon. Her symbols are Lantern of truth and wisdom which She uses to guide us, and the Key which is symbolic of unlocking the deep mysteries. The Crone Goddess rules the Sabbat of Samhain. She shares Winter Solstice with the Maiden and the Crone.
The Crone teaches us prophecy and will guide us to remember the past and see into the future. She is the Keeper of the Akashic Records, which are the details of our past lives. Her guidance through trance work and the spirit world can lead us to past life memories so that we may focus our energies into learning the lessons of this life before passing into the next one. The Crone dispenses justice with love and sorrow, keeping the balance and upholding the laws. To have a relationship with the Crone you must seek Her out. She will offer you a comforting hand when, as with all living things, we must face the death of a loved one or the ending of our own life. She will bring to you the deep understanding that death is the necessary phase that must happen before rebirth.
Crone Goddess magick is most powerful at the Dark Moon. Call upon Her for spells involving harvesting, resting, past life meditations and pathworking, endings, ageing, divorce, rest, retribution, death, protection from physical or psychic attacks, trance work to communicate with the Spirit world.

Get to Know the Blogger
(No, I look nothing like this IRL. This is my Latias gijinka, Yuna Minami. Her Latios twin doesn’t have a 3D model.)
1. name: Nintendraw 2. strange fact about yourself: I’ve installed or repaired two HVAC (Nest control units), one 3-way light switch, and a car bumper. Almost a sink. Where’s my mechanic’s license? (pls don’t give me one lmao) 3. top 3 physical things you find attractive on a person: Why can’t I name non-physical things? Honestly, anatomy classes have desensitized me to this sort of thing, but I suppose pecs, abs, and warm hands are nice in addition to the face. 4. a food you could eat forever and not get bored of: Any Asian-style soup. Pho, Taiwainese, ramen, tom yum, chao (rice porridge), canh (leafy greens + ground pork soup), bun rieu (spicy tomato-/crab-based noodle soup with pork and cabbage), bun thang (rice noodle with shredded egg, chicken, and cha/Viet sausage)... 5. a food you hate: Pineapples (mostly was traumatized by receiving it when it wasn’t expected) 6. guilty pleasure: Romance novels? Also video games or wasting time following whatever rabbit hole. 7. what do you sleep in: tbh, anything not formal wear (or later, gunked with body fluids/pathogens). Usually some shirt and some pants; idc about sleeve/leg length. If I’m tired enough, I’ll sleep in jeans too... 8. serious relationships or flings: Serious only, if only because anything else is likely to get (mis)read by me as friend. 9. if you could go back in the past and change one thing about your life, what would it be: Learn Vietnamese sooner. Get my shiz in gear quicker academically (how Asian). 10. are you an affectionate person: Once I get to know you, or nearly anywhere online? I like to think I’m nice, but have come off as arrogant IRL before... 11. a movie you could watch over and over again: Haven’t watched many movies recently (aka the past up to 3-4 years), but perhaps Dr. Strange. Or Pokemon movies 1 (Mewtwo), 2 (Lugia), or Heroes (Lati@s). Or Star Wars. 12. favorite book: I’ll be hard-pressed to name just one, but some favorites I can quickly recall include Wielding a Red Sword by Piers Anthony (also On a Pale Horse by the same) and Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler. The latter’s writing miiight not be the best anymore (it’s been years since I read), but some aspects of the main male character stuck with me potently enough to partially inform my oldest OC, himself an angel. 13. you have the opportunity to keep any animal as a pet, what would you choose: If domestic only, Welsh Corgis or (particularly if I could maintain the floof) Pomeranians/Huskies. If exotic are allowed, a red panda or red fox would be pretty neat. Or a tame cuddly dragon, if fictional animals are allowed too. :O 14. top 5 fictional ships: Camus x Nyna (I realize this is in direct conflict with Ree lmao) = Steven x May = Zack x Aerith > Nero x Kirie = Link x Zelda or Geralt x Triss (the last one until I get more in-game interaction with Yennefer) 15. pie or cake: Cake, 100%. 16. favorite scent: Mint, chai, beach/ocean, birthday cake/vanilla... 17. celebrity crush: Tbh, I don’t pay enough attention to celebrities to have one... I suppose I really liked Derek Hough when he first showed up on Dancing with the Stars. 18. if you could travel anywhere, where would you go: Valencia and/or Madrid, Spain (the former for their version of Smithsonian); Akihabara, Japan (0/10 wasn’t allowed to buy otaku last time); Vienna, Austria (music capital of the classical music world imo!!); back to the Smithsonian... 19. introvert or extrovert: Introvert 20. do you scare easily: I can be easily startled... Otherwise, I tend to be pretty unflappable in professional situations where I have some kind of response, even a framework, ahead of time. Unpreparedness is the devil, though. 21. iphone or android: Android 100%. By now, I’m kinda entrenched (whoops); and there’s more freedom of customization (e.g. root, different apps) 22. do you play any video games: Honestly, I’d be surprised if anyone in this group doesn’t XD I own mostly RPG or puzzle games, e.g. Pokemon/Zelda/Fire Emblem, Stella Glow, Radiant Historia, Valkyria Chronicles, etc. 23. dream job: At present? Cutting people open to save them. Dunno whether I like the idea of doing it with cool tech/robots or bare hands better; I am pretty dexterous, but... See Dr. Strange. 24. what would you do with a million dollars: Since Azzie reminded me to invest in something valuable like gold, I’d probably put 70% of the million into that/investments/emergency fund and use the remainder to give my parents a first-class vacation, pay off my loans, give myself a vacation (given the anticipated high stress of my career), and increase my souvenir budget for the next couple trips. 25. fictional characters you hate: Hate is a strong word, but other than the assorted slimeball NPCs you get to hunt down in Witcher 3, most characters I dislike tend to be as a result of being anti-OTP or poorly written. I suppose I dislike the protagonist of The Road, a small group of RPers from previous RPing sites/eras, and Ebony Raven Darkness Dementia Way. (All of those are here because writing style XD) 26. fandom that you used to be part of: Do Devil May Cry and Lucifer count? I come back to them occasionally, but only really engaged in either by watching a Let’s Play and reading fanfics respectively.
tagged by: tagging: Have at it, y’all XD

1, 9, 13 and 14 for the pet ask? :)
1 - What was your very first pet?
My first “pet” (aka animal I was entirely responsible for) was a giant African land snail I called Eden. Kinda boring to most people but I was only 5 lol.
9 - How old were you when you got your first pet?
Eden the snail was given to me when I was 5 but in terms of more traditional pets, I was given two guinea pigs (Rosie and Bitsy) when I was 7.
Horses, which are my main love, were something I had to wait until I was 14 to actually own apart from an unlucky 6 month stint as the owner of a gorgeous welsh/arab pony when I was 9.
13 - What is your pets favourite food?
This is kinda a long one since I have a fair few now but...
The horses: Hermes loves ginger nut biscuits, Sana and Vigo are pigs with no clear preference and Freyja would commit murder for store bought, apple flavoured horse treats (only decathlon ones, she doesn’t like other brand lol).
The birds all love whole sunflower seeds and all bar the goose go mad for meat scraps from the kitchen.
Smak the rabbit will do anything for sunflower seeds too.
The Oscars occasionally get flies, mosquitos and other assorted unfortunate bugs, which is as close to a treat as is safe to give them (and also adds enrichment to their lives since they love hunting).
14 - Do you want a career involving animals? If so, what?
The dream would be to run a national level show venue that offers quality competitions in all 3 disciplines as well as hosting dog events (training and various trials) in the off season but that ain’t gonna happen unless I win the lottery lol.

The One About Random Thoughts
It’s so lovely and peaceful to wake up to sunshine, the buzzing of bees and birdsong. There’s just the occasional sound of a train passing through the village or a car journeying along the lane, but there’s no shape or form to the days. We live near a railway station and so despite being very rural, we’re usually aware of people going about busy lives. As a rule the car park will be half to three quarters full on a busy day and up to 15 cars parked on verges further along the lane. Yesterday there were just two cars in the car park and none in the lane. The Station is closed, although trains still stop on a reduced service.
We live almost entirely at the back of our house, but will watch an early evening programme in the TV room at the front, where we’ve been annoyed to see the group of Pheasants wandering across the garden, into the lane and across to the field. There is still some traffic and drivers taking less care as they feel they’re the only ones on the road, so we try to shoo the birds along. My neighbour has said she’s seen them out a few times, as though on a day trip and it reminded me very much of the film on social media of the goats taking over Llandudno town centre or the sheep enjoying the children’s playground in Monmouthshire. What is it with the Welsh wildlife?
It’s not just animals spreading their reach either, the charity Plantlife is saying that isolation and cut backs in services may actually benefit the spread of wildflowers BBC report.
Guide to UK wildflowers
Geranium Sylvaticum aka Wood Cranesbill.
These shots are from our lawn this morning out of the bedroom window. A little wild Wood Cranesbill has popped up in the grass and the mysterious track that we’ve been seeing is fresh again today. It comes from next door under a gap in the fence where the manhole cover is. I’m wondering if our hedgehogs are up and about?
Another funny thing that we witnessed yesterday early evening at the bottom of the garden was at the seed tray. We had rabbits, squirrels, the pheasants and some rooks all visiting at the same time. Captain Blackbelly was mostly standing guard over the womenfolk, but the rooks weren’t impressed or intimidated by him. As well as troughing down on the seed they were gathering some sticks to patch up their nests. One particular rook took against Cpt B and was seen several times pecking at his tail. Was surprised a scuffle didn’t ensue, but the Captain seemed remarkably unconcerned.
More digging is on the agenda today and keeping our eyes peeled and our ears, late yesterday afternoon a massive RAF plane flew so low over the garden that it fair shook the house. We were too late to get a really good look and couldn’t seem to find out what it might have been doing but there were various reports and a trending topic on Twitter about various practice flights of the C-17 Globemaster and Touch and Go operations at empty airport runways around the country.
