ok so i'm now down to the last two achievements for sandrock, the broken subquest and the ending story. under the cut are ramblings about the subquest aka me talking to myself publicly, but for a longer time than usual
normally, i'm supposed to get a photo completely randomly while mining or some shit equivalent, which triggers a flag where you give the photo to the guy who it originally belongs to. he gives a bit of trivia about it, the photo disappears from your inventory, and you resume doing your daily mining and stuff until the next pic randomly pops. then you go give it to the guy, etc, the cycle goes on. and there's 10 pictures in total.
but for some reason, the first pic popped twice in my inventory. i gave one to the quest guy, waited and waited for the next one to spawn. except it never did. my hypothesis is that since the game considers i already have a picture on me, it can't send another one, so to fix this i'd have to delete the pic from my inventory. new problem, the pic is considered as a special item, and that means there's no delete item option for it. plus since the quest guy has already seen it, it won't trigger the linked discussion with it, basically it's a dead end.
so far, i have: made backups saves. downloaded the dev console mod. removed the duplicate using the dev console. added the next picture item manually. it triggered the event linked to it and the pic disappeared normally after. i tried giving myself the next one right away but it gives an error. which is fine because from what i calculated, the game lets you have the next pic three days after you give the last one to the quest guy. after that, you can give it to yourself manually without getting any error message.
the reason why i'm giving them to myself and don't try to do my normal tasks and see if they spawn like they should is because even if they *did* spawn properly, it's random. it can take a long, long time. and i'm already at the very end of the storyline, have done every other substory available, basically i've done everything i wanted to do in the game. i don't want to grind mindlessly, i just want to complete the damn subquest, finish the game, and move on.
my one fear is, what if for n reason the achievement did not trigger. well. i'll get an answer soon enough
