Can you elaborate on the whole fear of eye contact HC? I like the thought of it and kinda wanna hear more uwu
WELL this is purely ripped from my rp blog, so this is entirely my own interpretationof shouta’s childhood (with close to nothing in canon to back it up, so don’tgo digging lmfao), BUT, the origin of shouta’s initial fear of eye contactstems from treatment endured in childhood (placing this under a cut for abusementions).
shouta, when young, had poor control over his quirk. due to this, hewould often accidentally erase others’ quirks - holding no grasp on thelimitations of his quirk, or not knowing how to turnit off. shouta was easily seen as threatening (by both other students, andheroes) due to his quirk, as him accidentally erasing quirks could easily leadto disastrous situations.
because of hiseyes, this lead to rough treatment from other students. out of fear of erasingquirks, he developed a fear of looking at others (especially, looking at theireyes), and when he would find himself giving eye contact, his eyes were poked(hence why one of his eyes has an eye patch when you see him as a child insmash).
his eyes wereperceived to be threatening by both him, and others from a very young age - anddue to other childrens’ attempts to control his ability to look at others(poking being seen as a punishment), shouta struggled to give eye contactwillingly.
this followedthrough into his teenage years (still seeing his eyes as evil, still being seenas a threat to heroes trying to do their job, still scared of backlash for looking at people), andonly really changed when he met someone else who struggled to control hisquirk: hizashi.
hizashi, even in high school, couldn’t control his voice. this meant hismain way of communicating was with signing. shouta didn’t know sign language,so it was through several note exchanges, he was asked to use his quirk onhizashi (who had also grown to hate his quirk), in hopes of erasing it andgiving him a chance to feel... normal.
over years, shoutaeventually found security in giving eye contact again - hizashi being the mainreason he was able to move past his fear. shouta helped hizashi learn to controlhis quirk, and in turn, hizashi helped shouta feel less shame over using hisown quirk (even going so far as helping him understand it can help people).
tldr; shouta’s quirk was both groundbreaking and terrifying. he wasbullied in early years, which lead to him having a fear of eye contact. thisonly changed when he met hizashi, who needed shouta’s quirk in order to learnhow to control his own.

I’d have to read more of the vigilantes series before I’d even consider writing but I do like Knuckleduster and like seeing him interact with Aizawa. @aizawafan

Also partially inspired by @aizawafan's art!! (Sharing again because abfkwkdjam)
Shouta looked at the remains of the molten lava he’d accidentally created on the stove and just barely managed to snuff out before the kitchen caught of fire. His second attempt at making marshmallows wasn’t going so well. The first attempt was still partially stuck to his cat, who was currently being bathed by his highly displeased mother.
The two of them probably would be irritable with him for a week.
He sighed, scraping the pan clean and dumping the charred remains into the garbage can. Just how hard could boiling sugar be? Apparently, judging by the fact that part of his hair was still sticking straight out from the side of his head from his first attempt that the cat had landed in, it was much harder than it looked.
He pulled out the recipe one more time and took a deep breath. He was going to get this if it killed him. He had to. White Day was coming up, and he needed to have this perfected and ready to give back. Hizashi had shared some chocolate with him on Valentine’s Day and while it had probably just been a friendly gesture, Aizawa had been working up the nerve to reciprocate it every day since then. He wanted to let Hizashi know he had a crush on him, and this would be the one chance he had to do it.
Well, technically he could just tell him any time. But the idea of putting it into words made Aizawa’s vocal chords tie themselves into knots inside his throat and prevented him from speaking. But if he could show Hizashi in a way that didn’t require words, he could get his point across without making an absolute idiot of himself.
He wiped down the silver bowl he’d been stirring in previously and caught sight of his reflection and the half solidified goop on the side of his head making his hair stick out nearly six inches.
Okay maybe he already looked like an absolute idiot, but at least he wouldn’t make it worse by speaking. Hopefully.
It took a total of seven tries, a threat of grounding if he set one more thing on fire, and a hair cut to get all the marshmallow goop out of his hair, but the final product was complete and cooling on the counter inside of a heart shaped pan.
Would this be too much? He rubbed the small patch of side shave just above his ear and realized it was far too late to back out now. If he didn’t give this to Hizashi tomorrow, his mother would shave the rest of his head out of spite. Taking a deep breath he made himself go to bed for the night before he could talk himself out of it.
When morning came, his mother had packed the treat into a little box and ushered him out the door, telling him not to be late. He arrived at their usual crossroads a little early and paced a bit as he waited, trying to figure out how he was going to present the box to him.
“Yooooo Shou-chan!” Hizashi called. Aizawa turned abruptly, his face turning nearly purple with the effort to keep his heart from leaping out of his throat. He gave a small wave. He couldn’t speak. “Whatcha got there?” he asked, looking at the box in Aizawa’s hands.
He held it out for Hizashi to take, trying to form the words, ‘Happy White Day’ or 'This is for you’ but all that came out was 'dis you’ which almost sounded like 'bless you’ and Hizashi looked at the box confused.
“For me?” he translated. Aizawa gave a nod. “Oh! What is it?” he asked, taking the box and opening it. Aizawa’s heart was in his throat. “….Who’s Mochi?” he asked, tilting his head. Aizawa paused, looking down at the little box.
Inside was the heart shaped marshmallow he’d made, but on top of it, written in chocolate syrup in his mother’s scrawl was 'With Love from Mochi’ and in the center of the marshmallow was a single cat sized paw print.
Aizawa opened and closed his mouth a few times trying to form words.
“My… cat,” he said slowly.
“Your cat?” Hizashi repeated. “Wait I’m confused… What is this?”
Aizawa turned seven shades of red and felt his vocal chords trying to tie themselves into knots again. He swallowed.
“I… white… white day-” he stammered. “I’m- It’s marshmallow-” He tried gesturing awkwardly as if that would help get his point across and by some miraculous happenstance, Hizashi put two and two together.
“You got me a marshmallow for White Day?” he gasped.
“I made-” Aizawa tried again.
You made it?!“ Hizashi gasped. "That’s so cool!” Then the realization of what he said seemed to knock the wind out of Hizashi and it took him several moments to figure out how to breathe again. “You… made me… homemade sweets on White Day?”
Aizawa nodded.
“So… you liked the chocolates?” Hizashi ventured.
Aizawa nodded, his blush darkening.
“You,” Hizashi began again, licking his dry lips. “Like me?”
Aizawa nodded more fervently this time and Hizashi’s entire face lit up.
“I- me- you-” he stammered in turn. “I mean me like you too- I mean I you like me- I mean- me too,” he said taking a breath. “I like you too,” he added deliberately trying to make his words work properly.
If Aizawa turned any more red, he’d probably get a nosebleed.
“Wanna… get some icecream together after school?” Hizashi prompted.
Aizawa nodded.
“It’s a date!” Hizashi beamed.
