harrington steve likes braiding hair when he's stressed, hes the one who styles his childrens' hair
aimi coming to save my ask box as always <3
okay but you're so right. he literally already gives dustin hair advice so he would know what he's doing!!
i imagine that, at some point during vecna coming for max, he would end up braiding her hair. she would probably resist or think it's weird if he asked, but if she seems really stressed and they're sitting next to each other then i think he would do it almost subconsciously, as a way to calm himself and her. she definitely doesn't think it's as weird after that, although she probably wouldn't admit it publicly.
now thinking of him braiding el's hair??? sobbing. thinking that el doesn't know how to braid her own hair but she's seen steve braid max's before so she shyly asks him to do it one day. steve is shocked because el doesn't talk to him much, but he does it anyway, making sure to be really gentle with her hair and to make it look really good since it's her first braid ever. he finishes and she looks at it in the mirror and she's beaming and steve is just completely happy and proud of himself. needless to say, she always comes to him if she wants another one.
i can definitely see him giving dustin a tiny one in a teasing or joking matter. steve reaches over to touch his hair and he backs up and asks what he's doing. "checking to see how braidable your hair is." – "dude, no! don't touch the hair, you of all people should know that!" – "cmon, you took my advice to get this perfect hair. you don't trust me?" and thus dustin shuts up and lets him braid a tiny section. (he would definitely complain about it forever, teasing steve in front of others about it too, but if he ever wants to try a new kind of style that might need it, he would ask him to do it again. something that steve would endlessly tease him about as well.)
i feel like mike would die of humiliation if he ever had his hair braided – and especially by steve – which is exactly why he does it one night while he's half asleep, sprawled across the extra mattresses in steve's living room floor. it's not too tight, loose enough so it's easy to remove, and when he wakes up everyone knows who did it; who other than momma steve? mike would be humiliated, probably teased by some of the other guys – not like they hadn't been in the same position before – but maybe el or will would say that he actually looks good with it, and he would immediately tone down his complaints.
will very shyly asks for steve to braid a few strands of his hair one night when no one else is around. he knows that the other guys would be mortified to have braids – at least they act like it – so he asks him in private if he will, and of course he obliges. he's careful as he places a small braid into the hair near his temple, and it's easy to see how will's face lights up. but he tries to cover it, knowing boys his age don't usually like things like that, but steve isn't having it. "you know, it doesn't really matter what everyone else will say. i've braided all their hairs – even mike's – and they all liked it." and when he sees that will is still hesitant he throws in a little, "okay, fine. you get a secret; robin braids my hair when she stays over and i like it. i mean i like how it looks and how it feels." and that's enough to cheer will up enough so that he's ready to go back to his friends, but not before steve yells out, "and if anyone says shit, tell me. i'll beat anyone's ass for you, kid."
lucas doesn't have hair long enough to be braided, so steve compromises. he knows how much the boy wants to take care of max, so he shows lucas how to braid one day when he's braiding el's. lucas thinks he gets it but needs more practice, so steve begrudgingly lets him use his own hair as practice. "i swear, sinclair, if you knot up so much as a single strand–" lucas smiles to himself at the venomless threat. "i'm dead, i know."
okay so... this was just the kids. i literally have more thoughts about this for reader/me/you/whatever that i could go on and on about but. i've already gotten carried away :")

steve would purposely give his kids little plushies so when he comes to visit their house he fixes the bed while all of them are downstairs with the little plushie centered and snug under the blanket
oh my god. yeah. like it doesn't matter that they're literally 15, he doesn't care. eleven saw one once and was eyeing it in the store, and so he bought one for her secretly and gave it to her, and she insisted that everyone get them so that they can all match and no one – i mean no one – is capable of telling el no, so he just nods and tells her that he'll go back to the store that he got hers at and will buy different ones for everyone.
he gives them out to all of them and el's face is brigt and happy, she loves that they're all matching. she shoots steve the biggest smile ever and he feels really proud of himself until he sees the confused and almost hysterical faces of the rest of the kids. (minus will. sweatheart will loves his little plushie.) they start making teasing remarks – "woah, momma steve strikes again," "dude, did you really just buy a bunch of teenages stuffed animals?" etc – and el makes sure to say that it was partially her idea – "for the party," she insists – and then everyone immediately accepts it and is like.. you know what? yeah. and they all promise el and steve that they'll keep them in their beds at night.
steve definitely comes to each of their houses, checking in on them, just hanging out, or to pick them up and drive them somewhere, and if he evr finds their rooms he usually has an internal crisis because god are his kids messy. he knows they won't clean them, and he doesn't want their actual mothers to end up doing it, so he usually picks up what he can if he has time. putting away toys, making beds, and that's always when he finds the plushies strewn in blankets and he smiles, because they did keep their promises.
here are what i think he would get everyone, because of course i have to add images!!
el: this sheep!
Tumblr media
max: this dog!
Tumblr media
will: this deer!
Tumblr media
lucas: this dog!
Tumblr media
mike: this wolf!

dustin: this monkey!

okay so this post is VERYY long so i put a read more thing.. i got carried away by aimi's excellence in steve studies once again
plus i know some people might think it's weird because they're literally 15 but el deserves a good plushie. you KNOW she's never had one. screw it, all the kids could use a good plushie. everyone deserves a good plushie

Strawberry Slushies and Arcade Games
Robin Buckley x gn!Reader

You and Robin were barely acquaintances, having only seen one another as you passed through the hellishly crowded hallways at school. You'd never really spoken to her either, finding her friendly enough, but neither of you had really considered yourselves that great at socializing, so it remained one of those 'what-if' situations. One of the things you thought about at night when you wondered if your actions and choices could have led you to a different outcome.
Until... Robin notices you at the arcade next to Family Video. She's been working there for months, and she has a habit of spending her break time there instead of in the video store . (Steve teases her for it, but who can blame her? They have better vending machines and they have blue raspberry slurpees. What more could she ask for?)
She remembers you from school – someone who seemed kind and genuine and who she wanted to converse with but never had the courage to – and so she finally comes up with a plan to talk to you. She's going to walk into the arcade one day, see you there, and try to strike up casual, easy conversation. Maybe about the arcade or the game you've been playing for three days straight now. Easy enough, right?
Well... not so much. Robin carries out phase one of her plan; she steps into the arcade during her break and orders the usual from concessions – her blue raspberry slushie and a medium side of chili cheese fries – but that's about as far as her plan goes. You're there, hyper-focused on one of the game machines – she hasn't figured out how you always manage to be there when she's on break, but it's not as if there's much to do in Hawkins besides run from monsters, watch movies, and play games, so she doesn't really pay any mind to it – and she's rendered a bit of an anxious mess because she's just realized she'll have to talk to someone outside of her typical friend group. Sure, you give off good vibes, but the possibility of getting to know you and then finding out that you won't accept her for who she truly is keeps her from moving over to talk to you.
She keeps her eyes on you, curious and yet hesitant, until she has the fleeting thought that this might seem a little creepy, so she turns back to her food and continues intensely staring at her blue slushie, imagining what it would have been like had she been capable of following through with her plan.
However, she doesn't have to imagine it for very long, because suddenly you're next to her, asking the concession manager for your own strawberry slushie – something that actually surprises her, because she didn't have you pinned as the strawberry type. She's so shocked that she unintentionally voices her thoughts.
"Strawberry? I didn't see you as someone who could handle the sweetness of it."
"Yeah, it's surprisingly not too bad." A beat passes and then you fall into an oddly familiar routine – strange, seeing how you'd never interacted before – and you smile as you tease her. "You got something against strawberries, Buckley?"
Conversation strikes up easily, taking you both by surprise, and the difference between your demeanor and your personality has her captivated. She quickly grows fond of you – becoming friends who talk excessively about whatever is currently of interest to the both of you, listening with wide eyes as you get to know one another – and suddenly she's making sure to spend all of her breaks at the arcade, sharing snacks and various flavored slushies together as you talk alongside the machines. She finds your honest and teasing personality refreshing, finds it intriguing how you're so devoted to your hobby of gaming; you have this goal to become the player with the highest score on every machine, and she thinks it's both impressive and endearing that you're actually pretty close to achieving that, having half of the machines already showcasing your name as the number one player. In other words, it doesn't take her too long to realize that she may be developing a crush.
If it did take her any longer, then Steve would have been the one to clock it. She's prone to rambling on and on to him, as they're best friends, and you've become the latest subject of such ramblings. She talks about how much she enjoys your presence, about how she can't believe the two of you had never talked before now, and when he gives her an all-knowing glance, she just playfully rolls her eyes.
"I'm serious. If you had actually met them, you would think that they're as cool as I do."
But she's not as dense as Steve thinks she is; rather, she's just worried about exposing herself to the wrong person.
Regardless, one day when she leaves her shift a few hours early – Steve taking care of Family Video as she goes next door – she accidentally spills her secret (and her strawberry pink slurpee).
The two of you were talking at an arcade machine with your usual snacks when you had convinced her to try her hand at the game you were trying to win.
"Oh no, I've never been much of a gamer. My hands get really fidgety and they've always been a little over my head..."
She nervously laughs but you insist, and she eventually caves. She struggles at first, trying to keep up with which button does what, but she finally gets the hang of it as you cheer her on. Your support has her cheeks dusted pink, making her brain falter for a minute as she reels on how nice it feels to hear you applaud for her, and she falters. She's about to lose the game when suddenly you help her out, your hand resting on hers in order to save her little character on screen, and Robin feels like she might explode.
She's so giddy that she moves her free hand forward, knocking over her cup and sending some of it flying towards you. What remains of the strawberry drink you had convinced her to try is now on your shirt, and her eyes are wide, mortified and filled with guilt.
She rushes to hand you some napkins, quick to try and talk to explain to you.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I really hope that doesn't stain because your shirt is really cute and I would feel absolutely terrible if I messed it up. Like horrible, and I hope that you don't think I'm crazy for how much I talk to you because I just think you're really cool to hang out with. Like, so cool. Like, I talk about you so much to my coworker Steve that I'm pretty sure he wants to strangle me sometimes. He seems to think I have some sort of crush on you and–"
She stops, having realized what she's bumbled on about, and when you ask her if she does have a crush on you, she just lets out a nervous giggle before saying, "Um.. maybe?"
She's so anxious, heart hammering as she looks anywhere but at you, terrified that you might reject her and expose her to everyone else at Hawkins High as an outsider, someone different, but you don't. You take her hand and give her a smile, reassuring her and confirming that you feel the same, and Robin beams.
"So uh... I could take you downtown to buy you a new shirt? To make up for this one?"
You accept her offer and enjoy your first official date together, hand in hand as you go shopping right after leaving the arcade. When you leave, various brown paper bags of items hung on your fingers, you both sport matching grins of elation and golden charm bracelets, yours of the moon and stars and hers of the sun and clouds.

steve and robin with hibiscus, from an outsider perspective their friendship is amazing and I wanna know more ab them both. The only thing I know is that they love talking ab women LMAO
A/n: I can't even explain how excited I am to write this. Their friendship is in my head 24/7!!! (By the way, I'm gonna make this into a series of small headcanons since I think it would be way better that way!)

Robin Buckley Masterlist || Steve Harrington Masterlist
Tumblr media
Platonic with a Capital P
Steve Harrington & Robin Buckley
Tags and Warnings: No Warnings, Best Friends!Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley, Platonic Relationship, Nicknames, Friendly Teasing.
Word Count: 1006
A lot of Steve and Robin's friendship does consist of them talking about women. With Steve being the only person she's come out to, he's, by default, the one who hears all of her gay panicking. Not that he minds, because she does the same whenever he rambles on about some of the girls that he tries to catch dates with.
They have this habit of being each other's wingman/woman, but since they share three whole braincells when they're together, it doesn't usually work that well. When it does, however, Robin has the practical side of things covered while Steve has enough confidence to boost the both of them.
Playful teasing is everything in this friendship. They tease each other about the girls that they have crushes on, their shared dating fails, anything. Robin is usually the one to initiate it though, since she can't stop herself from pointing out all of the absolutely ridiculous things Steve does.
"Hey dingus, what on earth are you doing? Wait – don't tell me you're mopping the floor with the glass cleaner."
"Huh? – Wait, shit! It looked just like the mop chemicals!"
"No..? It doesn't? The cleaner for the floor is fluorescent yellow; the window solution is blue. Have you ever mopped a day in your life?"
Being that Robin doesn't have a driver's license, Steve drives her everywhere. She needs a ride to school each morning? Or to her shift at Family Video? Well, fear not, because chauffeur Steve Harrington is ready in minutes to come pick her up. Sometimes he acts annoyed that he has to, but he doesn't really feel that way. He's more than happy to show up to her house, watching her shuffle from her front door with a wave and an excited smile. They're best friends for a reason, and he couldn't even lie and say that he didn't enjoy spending his off days out with her, driving the girl to various places, her favorite pop music on in the background as he listens intently to whatever she may be bumbling on about. He can't help the grin that forms on his lips as she keeps talking – he knows that when she's more comfortable around someone, she talks about everything under the sun – and he relishes in the elation that exudes from her.
Despite working at a video store, Robin and Steve still host weekly movie nights at Steve's. Every Friday night he drives to pick up Robin and they raid the local grocery store for any and all snacks that they can find. Candy, frozen pizzas, and various bags of chips fill their shopping cart, and before long they're out the door and into Steve's house.
Robin likes to choose horror movies for their movie nights because she thinks it's hilarious when Steve gets scared. His eyes will widen as the jumpscare pops onto the screen, his palms sweaty as he combs through his hair to try and act like nothing's bothered him. Robin always gives an over-the-top explanation of the movie before they watch it and Steve always acts all tough-guy, like he isn't terrified by the movies even though he really is. Robin loves it; it gives her more things to embarrass him about.
Robin spends the night on movie nights – Steve's parents are always gone, and despite him never directly stating it, she does get the feeling that having such a large home to himself all the time must make him pretty lonely. That's why she sometimes convinces him to let her stay over Saturday night too, the promise of more canned sodas and a comedy film influencing him to shrug and say, "Fine, Buckley, but you're not eating the last slice of pizza this time."
These two have the most absurd amount of inside jokes. Put them in any kind of situation together, and they'll surely be giggling about something incoherant like "Oh my god, did you see? It was a pink dinosaur!"
Regardless of the playfulness of their friendship, they also know when to be serious with each other, like when Robin expresses the difficulties of being a lesbian and when Steve complains about his family. Nevertheless, it doesn't take too long for them to be laughing like schoolchildren again, though. They're amazing at cheering each other up.
Sometimes Robin has enough sanity to handle helping Steve babysit his seven children, but most of the time she leaves him to handle it on his own. (Even if most of them beg her to stay, talking about how cool she is in comparison to their typical babysitter.)
And sometimes Steve calls her and invites her over under the guise that they'll be hanging out, picking her up and driving her back to his. He's smirking all the way there, and when she opens the door to find kids running around the halls like mad and blankets and board game pieces strewn all over the wooden floors, he nearly bursts out laughing at the shock on her face. She's quick to try and rush back out the door and into his car, but he manages to stop her.
"Nuh uh, Rob, you agreed to hang out."
"Yeah, with you, Harrington. A lady can only reasonably handle one child at a time, and right now we're seven over that limit."
It takes him a minute – face scrunched up in confusion as mouths the word 'seven?' repeatedly, counting on his fingers to make sure he hasn't somehow gained a child – and when he finally understands her teasing, he grabs her by the hand and brings her inside.
"Too bad. You rely on your ever-generous best friend for free transportation, so you have to pay the price."
Robin definitely makes him regret having her there by telling the kids embarrassing stories, though. She knows his children will torment him just as much as she does; in other words, perfect revenge.
Their nicknames for each other include, but are not limited to:
Steve to Robin – Rob, Robs, Buckley.
Robin to Steve – Dingus, Harrington.
