On This Day in New York City History February 10, 1927: Lyric Soprano Mary Violet Leontyne Price is born in Laurel, Mississippi. Heavily influenced by Marion Anderson, Price studied at the Juilliard School of Music and made her debut on Broadway in 1952. Price would take her style of singing to opera houses around the world.

After making her first performance at the San Francisco Opera House in 1957, Price would make her debut at the Metropolitan Opera's performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore on January 21, 1961. The performance was punctuated with a 40 minute ovation. Price made history as the first African American in the Metropolitan Opera to be a leading performer.

Her final operatic performance came in 1985, Price gave her final performance at New when she performed the title role of Verdi’s Aida at Lincoln Center at the age of fifty-seven years old. In all Price has won eighteen Grammy Awards and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964 among the many awards she has earned.

You can always feel when Alfie is on edge. It isn’t just the fact that his muscles stiffen like lead, or that his jaw clenches and he begins grinding his teeth. It seems this notion is entirely negatable, though, you discover after excusing yourself to go and powder your nose, wanting to ensure that your visage is indeed perfect. The toilets up there for the private box guests are a single room with one lavatory, able to be locked from the main entrance door rather than housing multiple sectioned cubicles, but since you are only there to quickly check your face, you do not bother clicking said lock.  

About ten seconds after placing your compact back into your small, beaded clutch, you wish that you had.

“Evening, you lovely little filly.”

His words are delivered quietly, but with all the frost of an arctic chill, Albert releasing you from his grip immediately, his mouth floundering. “Alfie, mate. It isn’t what it looks like.”

His eyes widen as he stands at your side, his chest barrelling. “Oh, do forgive me for not having my glasses on, because what it looked like, yeah. Is you putting your dirty fucking hands on my wife. GMMTV 2024 Part 1 Stray Thoughts

I have finished viewing the trailers. I'm feeling relatively cool about most of it, and I had a strong negative reaction to the announcements about two adaptations.

Here is what intrigued me in order:

My Golden Blood - When Joss and Mond rose off the ground, I also ascended. Joss and Gawin wasn't on my radar as a potential option, but I am so here for it.

Wadee Gooday - I'm so here for the adult romance, and Thor is here. A boxer and a doctor have such fascinating potential.

The Trainee - OffGun workplace romance and Love Score is playing. We are so fucking back.

On Sale - TayNew in a ghost romcom? We are so fucking back.

Pluto - Film and Namtam and Namtam is lying? I am here for it.

Kidnap - Ohm is back in BL and they gave him a gun and a little brother who shares his name. This is probably gonna be a mess but it looks fun.

Only Boo - Not sure how I feel about an idol trainee show, but Louis is here.

We Are - Why are there four couples? Engineering? Hopefully, this is going to be like MSP, and let us put this behind us.

High School Frenemy - I will have to watch School 2013 before this airs because it looks like the original was well-received and this trailer just looks like boys fighting the whole time.

My Love Mix-Up - Fourth doesn't seem to do slapstick well in this trailer, and Gem doesn't look serious enough. New Hashimoto doesn't have that glint in her eye. New Aida looks solid. I'm skeptical. More thoughts below.

Alright, I'm just gonna say it: The My Love Mix-Up trailer was not good. I love Fourth and Gemini a lot. I think Fourth is really talented, and I think he and Gemini make a good team. That being said, there is a reason KH continues to get content shared on this website, and right now I don't think Fourth and Gem showed the juice to match Michieda Shunsuke and Meguro Ren.

I don't think Fourth is going to generate meme material as Thai Aoki the way Michieda did if this trailer is indicative of where he's going. I don't think Gemini is hitting the seriousness of Ida well here at all. Ida is a demisexual icon and so important to the genre, and I just don't think Gemini has this in him right now.

For those wondering why I feel so strongly about this, I will remind you that Kieta Hatsukoi is free on Viki.

We are now seeing cross-cultural adaptations of BL work, and I think that it's incredibly important to view the source work before we get into big discussions about what each adaptation does well. I am so concerned about Kieta Hatsukoi being adapted because it's so distinctly Japanese in its stylings and the dramatic tension underpinning it. The Thai trailer feels lacking to me because the angst felt so ungrounded. Fourth can moon over Gemini just fine, but there's a specificity to the mooning that he just isn't hitting here.

I will be talking about My Love Mix-Up Thailand as an adaptation of Kieta Hatsukoi. I will not be entertaining debates or discussions about it as an independent work. The trailer has called directly to the Japanese origins and it will be judged as such. If you haven't or won't watch the original or read the source work, please don't tag me, because "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore."

My Love Mix-Up! - Ep 1

TBH - I was very optimistic about this adaptation for one main reason: because I was very wrong with Cherry Magic Th 😌 I thought to myself that since I was wrong to expect failure then and Thailand had successfully adapted my beloved Japanese version in its own way, employing my favorite actors, it should be the same in the case of Kieta Hatsukoi (new version, not copying the Japanese style, two of my favorite actors ), right? Right?

Unfortunately, I regret to say that I rate the first episode as "mediocre with a minus":

despite all my love for Gemini and Fourth, they simply don't fit these roles

the characters are "drawn with thick lines", stereotypical, without nuances (of course this can change)

the comedic effect is non-existent. I have recently watched series as a comparison, such as We Are or I Became a Main Role… (which was hilarious), not to mention the original version by Kieta Hatsukoi. The difference in fun is very clear

I'm not a big fan of cats in TV series, they usually look scared, what is wrong with dogs (ahhh, cat food commercials 😑)

the second couple, highly likeable in the Japanese version, did not make the same impression on me here. Half is actually not very nice, what about those weird comments about his own friends and classmates? Aida wasn't mean, he was silly and clueless which makes a HUGE difference

the episode was simply dragging, I found myself drifting off at several moments, the series simply couldn't hold my attention at times

Of course, I will give this series a chance, because it was only the first episode and the series can still gain colour (literally, because the series seems to be "pale and dusty"), and the plot can gain vigor and pace. But I'm really afraid that this series will not repeat the success of Cherry Magic. In general, I have the impression that this is not a series, but a marketing project created for a very popular couple, which can be seen by the number of advertisements and commercials. And this is not an isolated case. Is this where the Thai BL industry is heading? That the series will be created for advertisers, relying on powerful branded pairs? Am I reading too much into this? 😂

Because I don't think a lot of work went into this show (like Cherry Magic did). I have the impression that the Japanese version of Kieta Hatsukoi is quite faithfully copied and the Thai version loses because of this. I have the impression that it was assumed that all they had to do was take the plot of a very popular original series, hire Gemini and Fourth and they alone would make the series popular.

I like the Japanese version, which, if it weren't for the werid breakup scene at the end, would be one of my favorite JBL series. It's not a perfect version, but Japan did a great job of developing real, interesting characters who are generally nice, and the story, the comedic effect are very entertaining. The story and plot are fast, "dense" and something is happening all the time. Unfortunately, the Thai version compares unfavorably... 🥺

Al-Mutaffifin are stingy with measurement and weight. When they sell something, they reduce the amount or quality of their product. And when they purchase something, they demand that they get the full value, complete with all other extras and discounts.

They want everyone to respect their demands and fulfil their rights. But when it comes to the rights of others, they violate it, they overcharge, they short-change, and they give less than what they’ve promised.

My teacher taught us that these aayat are not just limited to business dealings, but include other aspects in our lives as well.

🌿 In meetings, how many of us want others to accept our opinions, but we ourselves refuse to even entertain the ideas of others? Or that we want people to listen when we talk, but we cut and interrupt the discussion whenever someone else speaks?

🌿 How many of us get super enraged when someone blocks our car in the parking lot, yet we find no problem doing exactly the same thing? I decided to do a little pattern to get back to stitching so here's ponyta. I picked what was supposed to be a very light pink aida but it's closer to beige. Rapidash is next but I'm changing the colors a bit.

Also a read more about why I started stitching again after way too long. Trigger warning for sa and depression.

My uncle turned himself into the police for exposing himself to minors. He's in jail where he belongs and probably won't make it out alive.

I trusted this man my entire life. My Mother grew up with him and nearly had a mental breakdown when she found out what he did. She still cries when he is brought up. I grew up with his kids. How do you reconcile your love for a person when they do something horrible?

People I have known for decades quit talking to me. I have nothing to do with this. I work childcare at my church and would find random people standing at my door staring at me. A couple from my church showed up daily at the trial and even called it entertainment. My Mom yelled at her and told her to go apologize to my Aunt. They refused.

So things weren't great. I became depressed and just stopped doing stuff. I finally decided to just set aside my projects from then and start new stuff. So ponyta is a palette cleanser. Doing this pony has reminded me of how much stitching makes me happy.

Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Death at the Diner -

I didn't find this one to be as entertaining as the one before it BUT we did have Kimberley Sustad as a hot DA and ex-wife of Detective Cook and they were so fun together. Definitely the highlight for me. Roe has such cute clothes. I loved that Aida got to be involved more in this one and the reveal scene/escape was good. I really felt for Arthur having to watch Roe in a relationship. She's kind of awful to him when she knows that he cares about her. Anyway. I enjoyed it! I'll be curious to see if these continue.

scylla can be found haunting the crucible on zone control/mayhem/momentum/team scorched days! and sometimes in the trials of osiris, too. they're no superstar but they have their moments and are probably harrassing you with snap nades. gets their stress out in the matches. pretty jovial if nervous around shaxx!

aida can be caught in the odd gambit match once a blue moon- only fair to entertain one of her go-to fence's little betting ring operation! no invader but boy is she hoarding motes and vanishing off with them. if she absolutely must invade.... the xenophage's already out, don't ask her how she got her hands on one, hush
