Okay, on the last day of One Piece Rarepairs Week, I wanted to give a stage and "send-off" to the pair integral to me starting One Piece.
"Big News" Morgans and Stussy.
This was back in 2019, and with the hope that I may someday see their friendship (and maybe more!) in full glory, I began this thousand-chapter endeavor.
Times change. Both Stussy and Morgans have had more appearances these two years alone than since their farewell at Egghead (together, I may add). A certain man we all know and hate once declared that "people's dreams never die."
I used to use the thought of this imaginary friendship to freaking tether myself from dying, for crying out loud. Sometimes, all it takes is something simple, and you grit your teeth and choose to wake up again. But time has flown. I don't know what the future will bring, and there are far more important things to care about. So consider this a last hurrah, a send-off to this crux of a friendship that may still yet emerge from the shadows.
Thank you two for these past years. Your path is finally unfolding. Thank you.

Image credit for the first image is my best friend, Zby; the third image was made by the lovely HimboAppreciator, who has since deactivated.
More AYBF ("ah, yes, best friends" - how I would address them) under the cut for those who care.
So! AYBF.
I became interested in them because they seemed like a friendship built on the strain of the fact that they could never truly be friends, walk alongside one another, while they were each committed to their goal. They both have their own mission, and that will always come first. They're allies. That's all that they are. But... maybe... maybe it's futile to think so, but if once all of this is done, maybe something could truly bloom. We wouldn't have to be secret allies, meeting in shadows, exchanging information and stealing moments. Maybe... we could be friends. Maybe there's a world where we chose to be.
Anyways! Other AYBF things:
If you look at Stussy's Vivre Card, it says that "Morgans is one of the few people to actually know of her identity and mission." All the stuff we've learned about Stussy in Egghead, he's already known. And Stussy is secretive. They've been allies for years. Sure, they exchange information, but you don't give something like this to someone you don't trust.
Both characters know how strong the other is, but neither fear the other. Hell, at Big Mom's party, when everyone is tripping over themselves to call her "Lady Stussy," Morgans is the only one who freely tells her exactly how he feels. "Hey, Stussy, knock it off! Do you WANT the Strawhats to get into danger?!"
Remember when Morgans pulverized a CP0 (!!!!!!) agent for trying to meddle with his paper? That paper is his pride and sharing the news HIS WAY is his joy. He's dead-set on how headlines and contents will look (something that Vivi's been deriding him over). But when Stussy said that "Luffy is a mastermind pretending to be an idiot," Morgans put that in! Into his paper! The paper that no one but Morgans is allowed to influence!
He allowed her to sneak away from the party on his special no-CP0-allowed airship and shared his theories about the Worst Gen with her ♡
Yes, this sounds far-fetched, but I still have faith. ♡
Also, check out these AYBF emojis:

They have exactly ONE fan-fiction on AO3. It is by a writer called "TwelthNights," and it is in Chinese, I believe. It's wholly sexual, and written before the events of Egghead, but I deeply treasure it.
Thank you for making it this far. This journey has been dear to me. I hope we meet again.
@oprarepairweek thank you for this.

Hello! May I request a HC for Mihawk, confessing his love for a woman whom he's known since they were childhood friends, but never got the time or chance to confess to each other (she likes Mihawk too since they were kids) due to each person having their own life paths to pursue their individual goals and dreams, until they finally meet in current One Piece timeline and decide to chat over a glass of wine (Mihawk's favorite drink).
Hello Anon! Ah, Mihawk. Definitely one of my favourites! ❤ I actually wrote these at work on a little sheet of paper between tasks, it was pretty funny to write something on paper again like I used to, instead of instantly typing it into word. Hope you enjoy this!

It was a mystery how he hadn’t already confessed to you. The both of you were over 50 by now and had known each other since childhood. You’d think he would have said it already, but no.
Mihawk always thought it was better this way. He had his matters to deal with as a pirate and a warlord, and you had your own business to attend to, your own path to follow. It just wouldn’t have worked, or at least so he told himself.
Leaving you when he first set out on his journey was the hardest thing he had done in his life. No battle he ever fought could compare. At the time, he figured the feelings he had for you would pass, that it was nothing more than a crush, or some childhood attachment. And throughout the first years of his adventure, it did.
But then he met you again. A chance encounter, both of you out on your own journeys, meeting at sea. The feelings came right back to him, feeling stronger than ever. His chest felt warm during the time you spent catching up, but the both of you had places to go, so you said goodbye again and went your own ways again. The feeling of seeing you sail away tore Mihawk apart inside, but he knew he could die at any time. You deserved better than that. More than that.
The decades went by and the two of you kept meeting and leaving. Each time he saw you he felt happier, and each time he left you again he felt worse. He hated never knowing when, or if, he would ever see you again. The two of you ever exchanged den den mushi numbers or vivre cards after all. But at the same time, that very fact give him hope. Fate kept pushing the two of you together, so you must be meant to be together, right? So finally, he decided to tell you about his feelings next time he saw you.
When you did finally meet again, Mihawk invited you to come drink with him, not an uncommon way for the two of you to catch up. He brought you to a bar that wasn’t too crowded or loud, and the two of you caught up over a glass of wine. He waited until the both of you had finished one glass before he actually told you.
“Y/N, I need to tell you something.”
“What is it, Mihawk?”
“I’ve had feelings for you ever since we were children.”
How serious he was about it almost made you think it was a joke. He assured you it wasn’t though. Once you accepted he was speaking the truth, you were nearly crying. You told him you felt the same way, and that you always thought he didn’t return your feeling.
Forgetting that you were in a public spare for a second, or simply not caring, Mihawk leaned in over the table, placed his hands over your cheek, looked at your lips and then at your eyes. After a short nod from you, he leaned in and kissed you.
Vivre cards and numbers were exchanged after that, and Mihawk made sure to invite you to Kuraigana island often, or at least to meet you halfway.
