Did I work on my thesis today? Not at all, nope.
Sister (@messybrain) and I discovered a self moodboard patron on Insta and basically spent the whole day on Canva and Pinterest doing moodboards for ourselves, each other, our other two siblings and our parents. Because that's a very valid way to spend a day.
Here's how I see myself :
Tumblr media
Here's how Rosa sees me :
Tumblr media
That's how I see Rosa :
Tumblr media
That's how Rosa sees herself :
Tumblr media
And here's the original patron :
Tumblr media
Yeah, we did 7 or 8 of those, we had a lot of fun. Not a single word written for my thesis though. And I have found a new hobby too.

The Greed Is The Unraveling - Chapter 4 - ao3
Wen Ning couldn’t tell what was more awkward.
The presence of not one but two fierce corpses sitting in the dining room of the Nie sect, surrounded by sabers teeming with resentful energy that wanted nothing more than to slaughter them?
Nie Huaisang looking thoughtfully at the father that had notoriously died in a hideous fashion when he was only six, and therefore scarcely remembered?
Nie Mingjue, the toddler, insisting quite loudly that he wanted to sit in the lap of Nie Mingjue, the fierce corpse?
Wen Ning, surnamed Wen like an enemy, sitting here in the midst of it all?
Probably that last one.
“Don’t be so nervous,” Nie Huaisang scolded him in an undertone. He seemed amused, face hidden behind his fan, but then he always seemed amused to Wen Ning these days; ever since he’d gotten his brother back, even dead, he had become practically tranquil. “This is our home, da-ge and I! We’re more than welcome here, always, and so are our guests. It’s all very hospitable here.”
Wen Ning tried to paste on a smile and also hide his head in his arched-up shoulders as if he were a turtle at the same time. It wasn’t his home, and unfortunately for him, he wasn’t a guest – in fact, what Nie Huaisang was very pointedly not saying was that Wen Ning had only been transported into the past to land here with the two Nie brothers, rather than with the juniors he liked to follow and protect or with Wei Wuxian who he spent the rest of his time with, because he’d been spying on them. No one had asked him to, but Wei Wuxian had expressed a bit of concern a few times regarding what Nie Huaisang would get up to now that he’d finished all his other plotting and, well, it wasn’t as if Wen Ning had anything better to be doing…
Of course, his attempts at being stealthy had been demolished by the unexpected pull of time travel.
(He would die of embarrassment, only he was already dead. As it was, he was wondering if it was still somehow possible.)
“Oh, we’re extremely hospitable,” the former (current?) Sect Leader Nie said. He was somehow smiling, and it even seemed genuine. He seemed to think this was funny. “This is the most interesting thing that’s happened in – ages! Isn’t that right, Xiaoxiao?”
“No, da-ge,” a broad-shouldered woman with a positively massive saber on her back said disinterestedly from where she was standing guard by the door. “Your first wife was plenty interesting.”
“That doesn’t count.”
“It counts.”
“Ah, Xiaoxiao, my darling little sister, you don’t understand…”
“Little cousin, why don’t you take the one surnamed Wen out for a walk?” Nie Xiao said to the child that was hovering around her side. Her eye was twitching a little – she was clearly younger than Sect Leader Nie by a good number of years, but that dynamic didn’t appear in evidence at all. She looked like she was about to let loose and punch her sect leader and elder brother in the face, while he looked like he’d probably just nod and say that he deserved it while offering some corrections to her form. Not that Wen Ning thought that a battleax like this woman would need improvements to her undoubtedly perfect fighting technique… “Let the rest of this conversation be between us Nie – excluding the children, of course.”
Nie Zonghui, tasked with the responsibility for removing Wen Ning from the situation so that the scary lady could start yelling at her sect leader in private, was apparently twelve and therefore not a child, a fact he made very clear to Wen Ning at once as soon as they got outside.
Despite that, it was pretty clear he had no interest in disobeying the orders of what turned out to be his aunt.
Wen Ning couldn’t blame him. She seemed rather scary.
Had he mentioned that she was scary recently?
She was.
(Nearly, but not quite, as scary as Nie Huaisang, who just watched the goings-on in front of him with that tranquil smile, casually fanning himself, and somehow despite that looking more terrifying than anyone else in the room.)
Of course Nie Zonghui promptly ruined that moment of shared understanding by taking Wen Ning over to the training yards to meet his parents, who were also extremely scary, and also someone they all called Auntie Xinwei, who was even scarier. It turned out that Nie Zonghui’s parents were the Nie sect’s training masters, saber-mad and crazed with a desire to perform physical exercise – something Wen Ning hadn’t enjoyed while he was alive, and wasn’t overly interested in now that he was dead, insane rages when he was out of his mind not being applicable – but Auntie Xinwei, a mere travelling warrior from the last generation, was worse.
She was a doctor.
Or…maybe?
She didn’t look as scary at first sight, except for the fact that she took one look at Wen Ning and started talking about medicine and wanting to try things, and Wen Ning had learned enough medicine from his sister to know for absolute sure that absolutely nothing she said was medically accurate or recommended.
“She’s more enthusiastic than talented,” Nie Zonghui admitted (very quietly), and ushered Wen Ning away on his somewhat alarmed parents’ orders. Wen Ning was starting to feel like an unwanted hot potato, and also possibly like the Nie sect was far more dangerous than he’d previously realized. Was this why his uncle had never tried to take it over directly? “Still, she’s better than the Sect Leader.”
“Is she?” Wen Ning asked, feeling dubious. The sect leader, Nie Huaisang’s father, had seemed relatively normal, if possessed of a strange sense of humor. “What’s the matter with him?”
“Well, you see, it’s his taste in romantic partners. My parents have never forgiven him for what happened with his first wife…”
At the end of the explanation, Wen Ning thought he probably had more questions than answers.
“What about his second wife?” he asked nervously, thinking about the rendition of ex-lovers Nie Zonghui had just regaled him with, and also about how dangerous Nie Huaisang looked to someone with eyes that could see resentful energy. Sometimes he wished he’d just taken one look and gone the other way. “What was she?”
“…he doesn’t have a second wife, Wen-gongzi.”
“Oh. Uh. He will?”
“And will she be something weird?”
“…probably.”
Nie Zonghui sighed.
“Well, come on,” he said. “I’ll show you some other parts of the Unclean Realm.”
Wen Ning followed, and wondered as he did at how often Nie Zonghui had to do distraction tours like this. Surely it couldn’t be that common, right? …right?
They toured several sights of great interest to Nie Zonghui – the snack pantry, for one, though he did become apologetic when he realized Wen Ning couldn’t sample anything – and were just passing by one of the side gates when it opened unexpectedly and Wen Ning ran straight into his uncle.
It took a moment for him to realize what was unusual about this.
Wen Ning had been a clumsy child in his youth, and he’d always been running after his sister, so it wasn’t uncommon for him to run into people, and his uncle, with his habit of prowling around the Nightless City, more than most. Luckily it had mostly happened when he was very young, when his uncle was still mostly inclined to shrug it off and ignore it, and by the time his uncle had completely lost his mind and become far more dangerous, Wen Ning had learned the basics of not crashing. But it was still something he remembered with a startlingly vivid sense of clarity.
Therefore, the first thought that came to his mind when it happened was – Why isn’t he taller?
Followed, after a moment, by, Wait. Why is he here?!
“Sect Leader Wen, you’re hurt!” Nie Zonghui exclaimed, and Wen Ning blinked, then realized to his shock that it was true. His uncle’s white-and-red robes were more red than white, except only those parts that were the brown of dried blood, and he was leaning heavily on someone who was clearly a Lan, but whose white robes had been so covered in mud and blood that they were nearly unrecognizable.
Wen Ning automatically rushed over to support his uncle’s other side. He’d been eight when his uncle had lost his mind for good, old enough to have plenty of memories of when his uncle had been terrifying only to outsiders. It had taken years after that before he’d finally realized that his uncle had changed so drastically that there was no turning back.
“Do I know you?” his uncle asked him with a faint frown.
“Is that really the important thing to focus on here?” the Lan beside him asked. “You need medical care. Immediately.”
“He’s my bloodline,” Wen Ning’s uncle said stubbornly. “I know everyone in my bloodline, but I don’t know him. That means I’ve either missed something – or someone kept it from me – or else I’ve started to lose my mind –”
“I’m from the future,” Wen Ning blurted out. “And you’re not crazy yet!”
His uncle stared at him for a moment, and then smirked, that subtle-but-still-present touch of humor sneaking into his expression the way Wen Ning remembered from when he was very small. “That’s not as comforting as you might think, you know.”
“Medical treatment,” the Lan stressed. “Now.”
“Uh, Auntie Xinwei’s visiting,” Nie Zonghui said, and both the Lan and Wen Ruohan made faces suggested that they were familiar with the lady in question.
“I know the basics?” Wen Ning offered. Clearly, no one sane wanted to be treated by Nie Xinwei.
“That’ll do until we can convince someone else to help,” Wen Ruohan said with a shudder. “Qiren, this young man is supporting me just fine, you should go get Lao Nie –”
“Wait,” Wen Ning said, suddenly horrified. “This is Teacher Lan?”
“On second thought, the small Nie boy can go get his sect leader. I insist that you stay while we find out everything we can from my future kinsman, including everything he can tell me about you.”
Luckily, or perhaps not so luckily, Nie Zonghui managed to wrangle up his sect leader in swift order, only he also brought along Nie Xiao, Nie Mingjue in both editions (the larger one carrying the smaller one on his shoulders), and Nie Huaisang, sweeping up behind the rest of them at a causal walk.
“Oh, good,” he said when he saw Teacher Lan helping Wen Ning tend to his uncle’s wounds. “Very good. The two of you getting together will solve all sorts of problems in the future.”
“Getting together what?” Teacher Lan asked.
“What sorts of problems?” Wen Ruohan inquired, which was – extremely worrying, actually.
“But I thought he was together with the Sect Leader…?” Nie Zonghui said, which was both much more worrying and also easily the most horrifying thing anyone had said, ever.
“We are,” Wen Ruohan said, which immediately eclipsed the previous statement in horror.
“You mean you were,” Nie Huaisang said coolly. “I happen to want to be born, thank you, which means you two will split up at some point over it, and from my understanding the entire fiasco just rots the relationship from that point on. Far better to cut it off now and start over again fresh with someone new. Someone with better morals. Someone that isn’t likely to cheat on you.”
Wen Ruohan turned his gaze onto Sect Leader Nie with a glare.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Sect Leader Nie protested. “I haven’t even done anything yet. Anyway, you and Qiren do seem very cozy. It’s cute!”
“We’re not,” Teacher Lan said. “It’s too cold to be cozy, and the clothing-drying spell only works so many times. A blanket would be nice.”
Wen Ning numbly dug one up and handed it to him. It seemed like the least he could do.
Poor Teacher Lan.
“Thank you. Are you in fact surnamed Wen?”
Wen Ning nodded.
“And are you really from the future?”
Another nod.
“…are there many conscious fierce corpses in the future?”
“No, just us two,” Wen Ning said, relieved to finally be able to answer a question. “It’s complicated.”
“What was that about a dragon?” Wen Ruohan, who’d been having a completely different conversation, demanded loudly. “Lao Nie! What the fuck?”
“I haven’t done anything yet!”
“I’ll testify to that,” Nie Huaisang said. He was smiling. “He never got around to it, last time around. I was just saying that I’d be curious to see what a little sibling that was also partially a dragon would look like, assuming that this time you don’t murder my father before he had the chance to procreate a third time.”
“Lao Nie!”
“I haven’t done it yet!”
“You’re not denying that you would!”
“Well – I mean – I guess it depends on the dragon –”
“Would you like to go somewhere else to have a bath and a change of clothing?” Wen Ning asked Teacher Lan, desperate for an excuse to get out of the room, and was deeply relieved when the other man agreed. Once they were out of the room, they lapsed into a much more comfortable silence.
Well, mostly comfortable. Wen Ning was still mostly horrified, but also a little curious.
“Uh, Teacher Lan?”
The shockingly young Lan Qiren glanced at him.
“Are you really interested in my uncle?”
Lan Qiren blinked. “I don’t understand the question,” he said. “Who doesn’t have an interest in him? He’s extremely dangerous. Not paying attention to him is a recipe for disaster.”
Oh, there was definitely room for disaster here, Wen Ning thought miserably. It was like watching a happy little sheep follow a wolf into its den for a cup of tea, and filial piety meant that Wen Ning couldn’t even warn him.
Though maybe his uncle would benefit from having someone a little less unbelievably irritating as Lao Nie in his life. And who knew? Maybe Teacher Lan’s morals would rub off a little…and maybe Teacher Lan wouldn’t even be that unhappy about it, given how charming Wen Ning’s uncle could be when he was really trying –
Oh, who was he trying to fool? Poor Teacher Lan. He was doomed.
Just as doomed as the future they were all from, actually. They’d really messed this up entirely, hadn’t they?
That conviction only got worse when they returned to the room and Wen Ning’s uncle explained that that the reason he looked the way he did was because he’d been attacked by people who sounded an awful lot like Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji.
And also, apparently, Lan Qiren’s terrible older brother and Jin Guangshan.
“Obviously this is unacceptable,” Wen Ruohan said, his voice silky and mild in a way that suggested he was about to commit atrocities. “We will need to take firm action in response to this.”
“No need,” Nie Huaisang said, still fanning himself. “There’s an easy fix.”
They all turned to stare at him.
(Well, except for the fierce corpse Nie Mingjue, who was pinching his brow as if he knew exactly what his little brother was going to say and was just barely refraining from groaning at the idea.)
Nie Huaisang’s smile widened.
“Relax, all of you. Jiang-xiong will have to run into his grandfather by now – a-die, you once told da-ge all about him and really, it explains so much – and he’s a bright fellow; he’ll figure everything out soon enough, and that means he’ll be heading this way. More to the point, Jiang-xiong has exactly no sense of subtlety, which means there’s no way that he won’t make a gigantic stink on the way, and that means that Wei-xiong will hear about it and be heading here, too…in his own style.”
Nie Mingjue groaned.
(Little Nie Mingjue excitedly mimicked him.)
“Yes, da-ge, he’s probably going to blow something up, especially if anyone tries to lock him away somewhere, if you know what I mean. And an explosion of that magnitude will draw everyone’s attention, even er-ge, who probably didn’t even notice the time travel from his stupid little seclusion house, and then he’ll know that he needs to come here, too. And once they’re all here, there’s a very nice, very straightforward fix to every single one of our problems.”
“This is such a terrible idea,” fierce corpse Nie Mingjue muttered. “Even worse than tricking everyone you care about in the cultivation world to take a one-way trip back in time so that you can get access to the one person who has both enough power and enough skills in arrays to restore my sense of taste.”
Wait. Was that why they’d all gone back in time?!
(Was Nie Huaisang going to share? Wen Ning would like to taste things again.)
“Stop complaining,” Nie Huaisang said. “And stop underestimating the brilliance of my plan! I’m going to use the time anomaly to have Sect Leader Wen restore you to life, not just your taste.”
Okay, assuming Wen Ning was also getting in on that deal, he was officially no longer complaining.
Their future was terrible. Who needed it?
Listen, Wen Ning had grown up under his uncle’s tutelage, and his uncle had once been the most brilliant cultivator alive. He knew enough to figure out that – if you ignored his airy and almost certainly sarcastic words about wanting to be born – Nie Huaisang intended to use the untapped potential of their own future supposed-to-happen births to power an array that would bring a future corpse or two back to life. Sure, it meant that Wen Ning would probably never be born, but that was fine: if he had toddler Nie Mingjue’s age right then Wen Qing had already been born, and that’s more of what he cared about.
Actually, if he thought about the time and the ages, Jiang Yanli was likely already on the way, and Lan Xichen would have been only a few months off from being conceived. If Nie Huaisang really wanted to generate a lot of potential-time-bending power, he could interfere with those births as well – all he needed to do was prevent the future Madame Lan from marrying her husband! – and then, well…
Hmm. He’d still need to find a leverage point to anchor them to the timeline, though.
That had always been his uncle’s complaint about the time-manipulation array: he’d been able to use it to keep his own age permanently locked at his late twenties, but he hadn’t been able to really change anything because permanent time travel required there to be a second anchor point outside of the time, and that was impossible.
Eh, it was Nie Huaisang, and he’d already claimed his plan was ‘brilliant’. Surely he’d accounted for that?
“How bad are we talking here?” Lao Nie asked.
Nie Mingjue looked resigned. “A-die, you’re going to love it.”
Lao Nie looked excited.
Lan Qiren looked concerned. Wen Ruohan looked…mostly still murderous, but with a mildly curious edge, in a way that was weirdly not entirely unlike that mostly feral cats Wen Ning used to feed behind the Nightless City.
(It was so weird for Wen Ning to see his uncle back to the mostly-still-a-human-being self he’d once been. He was actually not awful about his murderous impulses, which were mostly reasonable and not absolutely insane. He was the fun uncle again. It was terrible.)
“Would you like to share your solution?” Wen Ruohan drawled. “You have one chance to outbid ‘kill them’ in the ranking order in my mind, so I suggest you use it well. Going once, going twice…”
Terrible.
Nie Huaisang laughed and snapped his fan shut.
“I can do that,” he said confidently. “It’s called ‘we make things worse to make them better’. Now, I believe, in this time period, you would already be familiar with the lady called Cangse Sanren…?”

AH YES, Greasy ask time.
Alright, so since our talk yesterday (Or the day after if you're seeing this in the morning!!) about Shiny, mentioning Poppy as well AND Lottie... I've got this funny scenario in my head XD
Imagine versions of all these women from alternative universes in which they are each with 'their own' Greasy (Who have been left behind) somehow ending up all together in the universe where Greasy hurt Poppy!!
Grease thinks he's gonna get triple teamed, or that they're gonna fight over him 😂😂 welll...
... he is going to be very disappointed XD Like:
Greasy: 👀 Hola, mi hermo-
Shiny: Oh no don't you even look at me. Remember I still got those sheers, and they haven't been sharpened in a long time.
Greasy: -eugh, oh no... uh, well you? Little Charlotte? Will you be nicer to m-
Lottie, rifling through her bag: Uhh, I think I still have one of those cyanide pills from service in here...
Shiny: Hey, don't do-
Lottie: Oh no!, its not for me. For him.
Shiny: Ah. Fair enough. Y'know, I have a drink we can put it in?
Lottie: Great!-
Greasy: *Jumps back* You are your fathers daughter!! Fine! Poppy, surely, it will be you, then?...
Poppy: Um no?? I dont think so?? Don't touch me??-
Greasy: *reaches over anyway as Poppy inches away*
Psycho: *CHOMP*
(I'm so sorry if I got Shiny or Poppy wrong!!)
Ohhh my lord. Greasy, you done did it now XDD
First off, you got Poppy and Shiny absolutely right!!! I'm honestly so excited that you wrote Shiny and Lottie interacting in this! Even if it's only exchanging a few words. If she knew Lottie, Shiny would absolutely take on the role of cool but crazy aunt who helps prepare her for boy troubles.
(Did he really think he was gonna get triple action?? That he was gonna get hurt!Poppy again???? The audacity of this bitch-)
(Also, if this version of Greasy hit on Lottie, Shiny's ditching the sheers and grabbing a spoon for that operation. She couldn't save her best friend in time, but she for damn sure ain't gonna let Lottie get taken advantage of)
Meanwhile Poppy is looking at them like "You.. How... You guys could kill him!" "... Uh, yeah! That's the idea, honey!" "But-" "He hurt you! You should have the most incentive to get back at him!"
Also, I absolutely love the fact that Psycho popped up out of nowhere XD either he followed them, probably to make sure Pops is ok, or he got to be the exception to girls night because Poppy doesn't have any weapons with her if some guy harasses her. Psycho is her defense! Next to Shiny XD
Though imagine that conversation playing out XD
Lottie: Uh... Poppy? Watcha got there?
Poppy, holding Psycho's hand so he doesn't wander off: Psycho. He wanted to know if he could come with us?
Lottie and Shiny: *share a look, knowing that Poppy more than likely doesn't even have pepper spray on her in case things go south* ...
Shiny: Eh. Fine by me. But he better keep his paws away from my nachos. He still owes me a burger from the last time we hung out!
(She was originally going to be Smartass' sister, yet Shiny and Psycho have developed more sibling energy than I was prepared for XD)
Oooh imagine the Greasy Shiny is with being there though?? Like, in that timeline, he and Poppy didn't 'date' before. They're friends! How do you think he'd respond to the fact that another version of himself hurt her? Would he be in Shiny's corner or would he hesitate because that is, technically, still him?
This was fun to read in the morning! Thank you for sending it in! ^^

Pt 5
Ep39: oh wait in the first place how did her aunt get caught by Wanning?? Was it when they tried to escape from Jiang Manor?? Phewwwwwwwwwwww PLEASE LET THEM BE SAFE I DON'T EVEN WANT HIS GRANDPA TO DIE. I'M ON MY KNEES. You know... I kind of pity SYR just a little bit. Tiny. Wanning didn't really realise how despicable she was. She treated SYR like dog. No wonder he will bite back. With the way she tried to snatch him, the audacity to ask if he ever loved her. Ptooih!! Now SYR kind of did the same to Li'er. He wanted to kill Xiao Heng just bcs he can't stand to hv his rival for FL love alive. He knew he wldn't win. Oh noooo Xu Zhi. OK that amazed me... I will say that consort Li love for the emperor was at least real even though she was full of schemes against others. Omg I'm so scared, the way I exhale my breath when Wen Ji(first time I typed his name sksksks) was fine. We still not in the clear yet. I actually ship him with Jiuyue, well... Please let her be safe too. HOW COME THERE WAS NOT A LOF OF PEOPLE WITH LU JI?????? WTF NOOO. Okay I can release my breath now phewww there was reinforcement omg omg. *chanting* JIANG YUANBAI JIANG YUANBAI!!!! although I hate him for his abandonment of Jiang Li but in other aspects he did his job well done. Not the slow mooo of our main leads couple. move it!! Skkskskssk the reaction of everyone sksksnsk. I was right about SYR. He really used Longwu Army for his personal feeling. The way I screamed when the credit played suddenly. XIAO HENG YOU MUST LIVE. ofc he is the ML.
Ep 40: wait... A knight on white horse... Let me search what is term for female knight. I mean she was not really a knight per se but someone to the rescue so yeah. The term is Dame. A dame on a white horse to the rescue for ML. Wait the og term is a knight in shining armor. Oh whatever. Nahhh Shen Yurong was wrong. If he was killed by Princess Wanning, I'm sure Xue Fangfei wld die trying to avenge her husband. Fight the injustice. Xue Fangfei/A'Li/Li'er was so cool. Jiuyue too!! Ofc he wld kill himself. I guess he wanted to try to kill himself in front of her to change her life trajectory thing sksksks. Still that scene of him playing the flute with Xue Fangfei dancing in the red dress was so beautiful. That was cool of Consort Li. I'm sure the Emperor will keep her in his heart forever. I don't get the headpiece thing, I thought she put it on Tong tomb but what happened?. Wait that escalated so quickly. How can she wed him before telling her secret to Jiang Family? Was this her imagination or what?? Ah she married him before he went to the northern border. I think she didn't tell the whole story bcs the guilts will eat Jiang Li's father up and kill him. At last Ye Shijie can move on. LU JIIIIII NOOO NOOO NOOOOO. Wen Ji was emotional I get it but our ML was also in the trenches. No no no no no not wen Ji too wtf?!! Where were the reinforcement?? Why there was only the three of them??? Soo the ending was quite vague??? Wdym.
Why her voice was a bit different in the extra??

Not related to the other two Bio!mom Harley AUs that I did. Just... similar. I wrote this instead of sleeping, as per the usual.
—*—*—*—*—*
“I need your help.”
No accent, no threats of violence, no beating around the bush (figurative or otherwise). No fighting or unconscious bodies.
Just Harley Quinn with her hair down, no makeup, and completely serious, in the center of the Bat Cave. Even though her usual exaggerated Brooklynn accent (circa 1950s) had become a pretty inseparable part of her personality over the years, every now and then she forcibly stuffed it down and used her mostly unaccented voice. The one reminiscent of days with less colors on her face, a high bun, and a pristine white lab coat.
Every single one of the Bats and Birds present, fresh from an interrupted patrol thanks to her, could count the number of times they had seen Harley like this on one hand. Bruce would have the most recollections, but everyone else would have plenty of fingers left on said hand. So they all knew, especially when Bruce willingly pulled down his cowl so he could look Harley in the eye, that this was the start of something they were not likely to forget. And maybe their chances of survival were slim too.
“Harley,” Bruce’s voice was still gruff, seeing as he was still mostly Batman at the moment, but his eyes were soft. “Maybe you should tell us what you need help with first. And sit down. You look exhausted.”
Sure enough, there were dark circles under Harley’s eyes. She let Bruce-man lead her over to one of their debriefing tables and sit her down. She let out a huge sigh, her fingers tangling in her loose blond locks.
“I have a confession, and it isn’t gonna leave this cave, capiche?” The slight return of her accent relieved a little of the tension, but not much. Taking this as their cue, the rest of the bats spread out into their usual seats at the table. Bruce stayed near Harley, keeping a hand on her shoulder in silent support. Harley didn’t continue talking until he gave her a solemn nod in agreement. She gulped— an action that immediately returned the tension.
“... fifteen years ago, back when I was still with Joker, I disappeared off the Gotham scene for a few months. I’m sure a few of you remember,” she looked up, and a couple of the older vigilantes nodded. Really, Jason has still been Robin back then. But the memory stuck out in his head now that he was thinking about it.
“Yeah, you were breaking away from him a little bit, which was weird at the time,” Red Hood mused aloud, arms crossed. “I think you helped us out a couple times and did some of your first team ups with Ivy before you vanished. Then a few months go by and you were back in action with Joker, so we mostly ignored it as you just being you.”
Harley nodded. “Ah, my Ivy’s a lifesaver, even back then. She helped cover up the timeline by keeping me in action for longer than I should’a been without putting me at too much risk.”
“Timeline…” Red Robin spoke up, eyes huge even behind his mask. “You don’t mean—“
“Harley,” Bruce breathed, having also caught on. “You were pregnant?”
The air went still. Harley sniffed, eyes watering even as she smiled.
“Oh yeah. Shouldn’t have been possible, ya know? Me ‘n Joker being dumped in that damn acid should have made us both more sterile than an operatin’ room. But I knew I couldn’t raise a kid, so after she was born—“
“You kept her?” Damian interrupted, earning a gentle cuff over the head from Dick. Harley just snorted.
“Yeah. Not gonna lie, I thought about abortion. But the baby didn’t do nothin’ wrong, and I was still in love with Joker back then so I was ecstatic that I was able to make something new with part ‘a him in it. Still, I knew a baby didn’t deserve to be raised in Gotham. Especially not my baby, not with my enemies and history. Not with who her father was. I knew he’d never want her, never let me keep her. So I spent the last five months of my pregnancy lookin’ around for the best possible family to take her in. And I found them in Paris, France. A sweet couple, both of them bakers. Sabine, she’s both adorably sweet and super kickass. Comes from a Chinese family that is crazy about teachin’ their women martial arts. But nothing shady about it, I triple checked. Just bonding through kicking people in the face. Which is perfect, I wanted my baby to know how to defend herself. I knew she’d need those skills eventually. And Tom, that’s Sabine’s wife, he’s a gentle giant. Same size as Bane, but as harmless as a puppy and makes the best croissants ever. Seriously, the best.”
“Harley,” Bruce gently prodded, but there was a tiny grin on his face. Seeing her behaving so… so normally, so proud and reminiscent, was a rare treat. Bruce would be lying if he said he wasn’t proud of how far the woman had come. How she had freed herself and become a better person, mostly on her own.
“Right, right. The point, Harley took a breath, rubbing her forehead. “I came clean to Tom and Sabine, but apparently they knew who I was the whole time. They just didn’t care— did I mention they are perfect? Anyway, once I explained everything, they agreed immediately to adopting my baby. They’d been wanting kids, but it would’a been too risky for Sabine’s health. That’s how I found them anyway, they were in the market to adopt. We named her Marinette. She took Tom and Sabine’s last names, hyphenated. We decided Quinn would be her middle name. And after that, I came back to Gotham and told myself that she was in good hands and I needed to forget about her. Cuz I was no good for her. I knew that. I went back to my old tricks. And then…” Harley chuckled, but it was self-depreciating.
“Then a few years passed, and I started breaking away from Joker for real. Then we broke up, I blew up Ace Chemicals while you guys were outta town doing Justice League and Young Justice shit. I started dating Ivy. And—“ she smiled softly at the table, clearly seeing something the rest of them couldn’t. “Then Ivy convinced me to go see her. Visit my baby, see how she’s been. And I did. Marinette was seven years old, but damn it to hell she was gorgeous. And say whatever you want about me and Joker— most of it will even be true— but neither of us are stupid. And she inherited all of our intelligence. All of it. She got my blue eyes. But she got his hair, which meant Sabine teased me relentlessly about ‘are you sure she isn’t that Wayne’s kid?’ And don’t make that face Bruce, you’d be lucky to have a kid half as beautiful as my Mari-pie. No offense, Damian. Anyway. Anyway, this is the important part. Or part of it.
“She sat there and listened to everything I had to say. Everything. A little seven year old, who could barely understand English at the time, and she listened without interrupting once. She never threw a fit, she wasn’t angry or confused. I told her about the things I’d done in the past— well, G rated versions— and she didn’t care. She called me Momma Harley right away, said she wanted to meet Aunt Ivy sometime soon, and started telling me everything about her that I’d missed. From that day on, she became my sunshine. The light of my life, and I still call her at least once a week every week. When I disappear for a few days out of the city? I’m visiting her—“
“You’re banned from international travel, Harley,” Dick scolded, but he sounded way too amused for it to work. He knew she had her ways, anyway. Nobody could actually stop Harley damn Quinn from doing whatever she wanted.
“—Ugh, she tells me the same thing every time! Disappointed glare and everything. I don’t know how I gave birth to such a goodie goodie, but somehow I did. Not important though! The important thing is, I’m always the first to hear when something new happens in her life. And we had decided that she wouldn’t visit me in Gotham until she was at least eighteen, but apparently she disobeyed me— which I should have expected honestly— and entered you guys’ WE international scholastic competition.”
“Oh no,” Bruce pinched the bridge of her nose. “Marinette Dupain-Cheng? The contest winner?” He finally pulled out a chair and sat down. “The winner gets an all-expense paid trip to Gotham for them and their whole class.”
“Exactly!” Harley threw up her hands. “Mari told me last week, and I’ve been trying to talk her out of coming ever since. But she’s inherited both of our stubbornness too, and she isn’t budgin’ a bit. ‘Momma Harley, I wanna see you and Auntie Ivy though!’ And ‘Momma, Gotham’s nothing I can’t handle,’ or my favorite, ‘Maybe you’ll finally get to see me dropkick someone three times my size then, and I’ll prove it.’”
“So that’s what you meant by you need our help,” Tim said as he leaned forward over the table. “Joker just broke out of Arkham yesterday. You want us to protect her.”
“I’d prefer if one of you was with her outside of the mask too, as often as possible,” Harley confirmed. “I can’t stop her from coming here anymore, but I also don’t trust Joker for a second. As soon as he sees her, I’m afraid he’ll make the connection.”
“She looks like him?” Damian asked, scrunching up his nose at the ugly mental image of Joker as a teenage girl. Harley shook her head, solemn.
“She looks like a dark-haired mini-me,” she corrected. “She even keeps her hair in pigtails as her way of showing support for me. And I know Marinette can kick ass, Sabine’s trained her well. But Marinette inherited more than I’d like from me,” Harley ran a hand through her hair. “I didn’t notice it until she was thirteen. She got a crush on a classmate, and it was almost like watching videos of me back during the early days of— well, of Harley Quinn. Just without the crime and insanity. She didn’t even realize that she was almost stalking the poor kid until I pointed it out, and luckily I was able to put my doctorate to good use and we nipped that right in the bud ASAP. She never meant it that way, anyway. As soon as I explained things to her, she was horrified and immediately asked me to help her learn how to have a healthy relationship. That was a fun discussion,” Harley grimaced. “But she still gets attached to people really, really easily. Once she grew out of her crush on that boy, she adopted him as her unofficial brother. She already calls Selina “Auntie,” even though I’ve barely mentioned her to Marinette. She gets attached fast, and deeply. And I’m afraid that even after all the warning I’ve done, all the stories I’ve told her—“
“You’re afraid she’ll get attached to Joker just like you did,” Bruce finished for her, closing his eyes. “Because she knows he’s her father.”
“Yes,” Tears were slowly dripping down her face already, her hands curled into fists so tightly that her knuckles were paper white. “You know how he is. If he finds out she’s his biological daughter, he’ll immediately try to take advantage of that. And he’s far too good with his words for people like me and Mari. I’m worried outta my mind. Please. Help keep my baby safe from him.”
“We will,” Jason no longer had his helmet on, or the domino mask that he usually wore underneath it. All of them knew masks were merely formality with Harley nowadays. And he needed to look her directly in the eye so she could see how serious he was. “I can sign up as a bodyguard for the class. It won’t be weird, seeing as they’re tourists and this is Gotham. They also have several rich kids in their group if I remember right.”
Bruce nodded, agreeing with Jason. “That’s a good idea. I can lead the class on their tours of WE personally. That’ll serve the purpose of keeping an eye on her and shutting up the investors that keep begging me to make more public appearances for the sake of the company. Marinette’s name is already released to the news as the winner of the contest, so we can’t keep her out of the spotlight long. Tim, you’ll have to keep an eye on any and all pictures of the class. Try to erase or doctor the images with her in it well enough that connections between her and Harley can’t be easily made. Dick, you and Damian will be in charge of keeping an eye out for any activity from Joker. The slightest hint, and you notify all of us. We’ll decide on a case-by-case basis who is necessary to stick with the class and who goes after the clown.”
“She’s gonna sneak out of her hotel to stay with me and Ivy,” Harley admitted, bringing the (now slightly judgemental) attention back to her. She raised her hands up in surrender. “She didn’t tell me that, and I didn’t approve or suggest it! I just know my baby too well to not realize that that’s her plan. Could ya provide an escort?”
Bruce sighed. “This is gonna be an eventful month.”

Lord Barnes’ mood did not improve in the days leading up to the first of the tournament. It grew colder in the capital and many feared the events would be cut short by an early winter. You didn’t care much either way. You had no interest in the sport or much of anything. You just abided the duke and in those times he left you alone, you laid in a void.
His want of you didn’t wane nor did your despair or the disgust you felt when he touched you. It was one thing to be a servant, to be a tool, a means to an end, but what he used you for now seemed little more than torture. He delighted in what he did, in how he made you suffer. Those times you remained unmoving and unfeeling angered him the most.
You dressed in yellow that morning. The horns announced the beginning of the tournament as you made your way to the stand amid the sea of guests. The wives, daughters, sons, mothers and fathers of those who would compete. You were out of place as you climbed the wooden steps between the benches and a green sleeve shot up to wave to you.
“Dearie!” May brushed past her husband to stop you at the end of their seat, “here, with us,” she insisted, “we did save you a place.”
“Oh, you didn’t have to do that,” you said quietly. You hadn’t seen her or her family since the night of the feast. Since Barnes had…
“I can’t have you sitting alone,” she trilled as she pulled you along with her and sat beside Lord Benjamin who bowed his head and issued a gentle greeting. “And I always longed for a daughter, you know? Peter’s a good boy but so troublesome. I did try to persuade him not to enter the lists but he just never stops.”
“The boy’s old enough,” Benjamin said, “when I was his age--”
“You married me,” May cut in, “a foolish decision indeed. He is on the roster for today. Sparring. I fear he might not make it past the early rounds but so long as he is not hurt.”
You nodded and covered your hands in your sleeves. Even with the fur-trimmed cloak Barnes allotted you, it was crisp. Your matching cap barely kept the cool air from your cheeks. Your leg shook from more than the cold as you recalled that Barnes was set to compete with the sword as well.
“A fine cape,” May commented as she touched the edge of your cloak, “with sleeves even.”
You looked down at the fawn-coloured garment that only allowed a peek of the canary yellow beneath. You fidgeted and kept your eyes on the field, “a gift,” you lied, well, maybe it wasn’t a lie, or maybe you’d bought it in sweat and tears.
Another horn blew and she quieted and clapped as all looked to the center of the arena. The wooden stands were hung in all shades of silk, the banners of each house, high and low, covered the rafters. By the end of the day, only one would remain. Lord Barnes’ blue and ivory flapped opposite your side and Benjamin pointed out his family's slender red and black crest amidst the panoply.
You were thankful for the distraction, not for you but for them. You didn’t know how many lies you could conjure or if you could keep the false smile on your lips. You clamped your hands together and watched a man in gold stroll out to the centre of the stadium with a cone to project his voice. You stood with May and Benjamin and the rest of the onlookers
“Fine ladies and gentlemen, princes, paupers, and everything in between, we welcome you in name of King Samuel to the Games of Goblets. For each competition, the victor is to be prized a goblet to bear as a symbol of his prestige. For the ax-throwing, bronze inlaid with amber, for the bow-and-arrow, silver set with citrine, for the melee, gold set with sapphire, and for the joust, a fine piece in gold set with opal and ruby.”
The crowd applauded and shouted. The man waited for them to quiet again, “This day, we begin with the melee, on the morrow, the axe, the next day, the arrow, and on the final day, we ride!”
Again, the audience grew rowdy and you were deafened by the cheers. The man laughed at the excitement and held up his hand for a final lull.
“Without further delay, let us begin. In our first round, the lower lords and the untested, before the second where they shall meet our season veterans, and so on…” he gauged the fervent tension of the people, “you will see me again upon the finale and perhaps you will be surprised by whoever stands with me.”
Again, the stand quaked with the energy of the people. You would have liked to sit but you stayed on your feet, afraid to draw unwanted attention. The first pair was announced but you didn’t watch. You stared at the sky or a rippling banner but had no interest in the games.
You only stopped to look as Peter’s name was called out and May grabbed your arm. She squealed as her nephew came out decked in his used armor, beaten out from its former user’s wear, and he unsheathed his sword to face his opponent. When the handkerchief was dropped, you were as stunned as his fellow competitor and the crowd by his swiftness. You’d never seen anyone move so fast, and in at least twenty pounds of armor.
The crowd awoke from their awe and cheered as his sword beat against the other man’s suit with tinks and tunks. It was like a bell, ding, ding, ding. It wasn’t until the other man was on his knees that the spar was ceased. Peter was declared the plain winner and sent on to wait for his next engagement. May wiped away tears of joy and Benjamin grumbled his approval.
You smiled, just a little. You were happy for Peter. You’d seen how joyful he was, he was likely dancing behind the curtain right now.
🏰
It wasn’t until the second round that Lord Barnes was introduced. He walked out fully armoured like any other combatant but his left arm was permanently bent, a shield strapped to it as he gripped his pommel in his right hand. He showed his steel and faced his match. He dealt hard and heavy blows until his opponent was on his back.
You shuddered at his unboasting victory as he wasn’t even patient enough to hear himself declared the winner. You touched your cold cheeks and puffed into the bitter air. The bodies around you warmed the stands but you were chilled to the core.
Peter appeared again in the second, then the third, fourth, and to his aunt and uncle’s delight, he soldiered onto the final. To your fear, he was to meet Lord Barnes. You tried not to squirm, not to show how nervous you were for Peter. You thought of running down and begging him to withdraw but what could you say? If anything, you’d both be worse for it.
As the last two banners were presented to the crowd, you sensed movement to your right. A familiar head of blond hair approached and the tall duke pushed past the row of people along the bench. Lord Rogers smirked as he came close, his sweaty hair drooping down his forehead from his last bout, the one he’d lost to his closest friend.
“Ah, I found you,” he said, “lady.”
You felt May peek past you and you gave a meek “my lord” as he stood close. He looked around you at the older couple.
“You have friends,” he stated, “please, do introduce us.”
You looked down and chewed your lip. You turned slowly to May and Benjamin, the latter peering past her only as he was torn from his fixation on the field.
“Lord Benjamin and Lady May Parker, baron and baroness,” you rubbed your hands together nervously, “Lord Steven Rogers, duke of Astrens.”
“Oh, we’ve heard of him,” May chirped, “my lord, it is an honour.”
“Indeed,” Benjamin agreed, “my lady, you did not inform of us of your lofty friends.”
“She is modest,” Rogers intoned, “we met by chance, really, through a common acquaintance.”
“You were skillful on the field, it is a pity you were bested,” May said.
“Very pitiful, I did put some gold on you, Lord Rogers,” Benjamin added, “alas it was a fine showing.”
“Wasn’t it?” he turned to stand with his arm pressed to yours, much too close for your liking, “however this one should be intriguing.”
“It’s our boy,” Benjamin said, “and your friend, my lord.”
“Perhaps you’d take another bet?” Rogers countered.
“I’ve lost enough this day,” Benjamin snorted, “I’d rather watch and be pleasantly surprised than paupered.”
“Prudence is wise but always so boring,” Rogers mused.
As the lower of the lords, Parker was announced first and you were saved from more uncomfortable banter by the man in grey. Rogers nudged you and bent as the introductions went long as the man with cone went into detail about the day’s fights all the way to the present match.
“I did look fine out there, didn’t I?” he whispered, “good form, even if I did lose. Barnes is in a mood and we both know that makes him… unpredictable.”
You lowered your head, “my lord.”
“You are quiet since last we met,” he remarked, “perhaps your thoughts linger on how else to use your mouth?”
You squirmed and stared at the competitors as they awaited their signal. Rogers laughed and stood straight as he focused on the field in kind. He played with your sleeve and tugged your arm down. He caressed the back of your hand and stepped even closer.
“When he wins, he might just be cheerful enough to share in his celebrations, hmm?” he said under his breath.
The gold cloth was dropped and the two men circled each other, eyeing their opponent cautiously. Barnes was the first to act but was evaded by the younger man. He didn’t not falter however as he swung again. Peter rolled under the strike and met it with his own steel, batting it away so that it nearly struck its holder.
Barnes dodged that time, then the boy spun again. They danced around each other, both swift, both calculating, both determined. Steel met steel but never that which clothed the fighters. May grabbed your other wrist as she held her breath.
Barnes laid a hit across Peter’s chestplate that made him stagger but he turned it into another lithe evasion. He snaked around the higher lord and hammered his false arm. The shield cracked in half and Peter ducked again.
Barnes was angry as he stabbed out. His blade was shoved away again and Peter jumped over the foot that tried to trip him up, a true achievement in armor.
You realised as Barnes laid a flurry of blows at the air that he was angry. The crowd silenced as the realisation fell over them and they watched as time seemed to slow. The duke was losing and he was enraged.
Peter jabbed the other man’s chest plated with his sword then hit his true arm. The sword bobbled in Barnes’ grip but he regained his hold on it. Too slow as Parker struck over and over, throwing him off balance, and sweeping him off his feet with a low lunge.
As Barnes clattered onto his back, the breath went out of him and every other person in the stadium. The man in grey shook away his shock and finally stepped forward.
“Our victor!” he grabbed Peter’s arm and raised it, “the Lord Parker!”
May hopped up and down and hugged her husband. Steve tutted and shook his head. Your eyes clung to Barnes as he sat up, forgotten in the dirt. His left arm was stuck at an angle away from his body and he reached up to force it back down.
Peter offered him his hand and was ignored. Barnes sheathed his sword and offered a curt bow before he exited. Rogers’ hand crawled up your arm and he gripped you. “Well, looks like we both will suffer his loss.”
For once, he spoke the truth.

For the anon that asked me to write some sweet kathony fluff for At Least I'm Trying; here it is:
related to this asks! Really hope you'll like it!
Violet, Anthony, Kate and their sons are on their way back home from a weekend long visit at the Duke and Duchess..
For the anon that asked me to write some sweet kathony fluff for At Least I'm Trying; here it is:
It is in moments like this where Anthony couldn't believe his luck. He's sitting in the carriage, his arm is wrapped around Kate and her head is resting on his shoulder; she's fast asleep.
In front of them sit their sons. Little Miles is bouncing on his seat and Edmund tries to make him stop singing so loudly, to prevent him from waking up their mother.
Anthony has to hold back laughter, his youngest son isn't made for long rides and he's trying so hard to contain himself it's endearing. Therefore, he can't be mad, but his eldest son has a valid point; Kate's going to wake up if he continues, and God knows she needs her rest.
"Milo," he whispers, "Please lower your voice." He nods at Kate. "We don't want amma to get grumpy, huh?" He presses a kiss in her hair.
"No." Edmund says and he looks sternly at Miles. "Besides, amma looks so sweet when she's sleeping."
"Okay," Miles pouts but he sits up straight and looks through the window. "But at our next stop, can I switch to Granny Violet?"
"Me to!" Edmund forgets he was trying to stay silent, his voice gets all high and excited. "If Miles gets too, I'm coming with him!"
"Boys!" Anthony hisses, "Please!" He presses a finger against his lips.
Anthony feels his wife move in his arms.
"Hmm.. I'm not sleeping." She mumbles. "I'm just so comfortable I was pretending to..."
Anthony laughs out loud, he's sure she did sleep, her little snoring gave her away.
"Did we here amma snore boys?" He winks at his sons. "We don't believe her, right?"
"No!" Miles shouts, "We've heard you."
"And I couldn't miss your voice." Kate lifts her head and stretches. "Papa, your child is also giving me a hard time." She frowns and softly caresses her round belly. "Every time those two," She amusingly points at the boys. "Are up to no good, she reacts."
"My sweet girl," Anthony places his hand next to Kate's on her belly. "Already a little version of the most wonderful woman I know."
"Can she really hear us?" Edmund frowns. "Or are you telling lies again?"
"Edmund!" Anthony says indignant. "Excuse yourself."
Kate starts to smile, she knows her eldest son would never be mean or cheeky, he's just too honest.
"I didn't lie before Neddy, I just refrained the truth a bit."
"Ah." He nods and he's so much like his father when he does, Kate has to blink a few times.
"So the baby can really hear us?" Miles asks curiously. "How can you tell?"
"Come." Kate grabs his tiny hand. "Say something, and she most likely will respond."
"Hello?" Miles says with a tiny voice. "Can you hear me?"
They all hold their breaths but nothing happens.
Anthony sees his son is disappointed. "Maybe she's asleep."
"Yes, just like amma was before." Edmund says wisely. "Baby's sleep a lot, aunt Daphne told me."
"So we can't play with her? What are we supposed to do then?" Miles looks confused.
"You can read to her, or sing songs." Kate suggests.
"I hate singing! I don't like this…" Miles starts to get fidgety again. "When are we stopping so I can ask Granny Violet if we can sit with her?"
"You can't talk to our sister like that." Edmund is startled and pushes his brother away.
"Hey!" Miles does the same. "Don't touch me!"
Anthony opens his mouth to tell them to stop but before he can Kate shrieks loudly and he immediately feels why.
"Come! Boys!" She grabs both of their hands and places them where she feels the baby kicking. "She wants you both to stop fighting!"
"This is great!" Miles' eyes grow. "Does it hurt amma?" He asks, concerned.
Kate shakes her head. "No, not this time."
"But sometimes?"
Kate now nods.
X
Some time later it's just the two of them. The boys got their way and the last part of the journey home they're riding with Violet.
"What are we going to do when it turns out this is another boy?" His fingers caress her belly and Anthony blows a kiss on Kate's neck, she's curled up against him and the smell of lillies enters his nose.
"It's a girl, I assure you," Kate says softly. "So it won't be a problem."
"Okay." Anthony feels something flutter in his stomach, he wants a daughter so badly, he's almost too afraid to believe his wife. "I really hope you're right."
"I am." Kate yawns. "She's going to be perfect."
"Just like her mother," Anthony bends a little so he can kiss her lips. "I love you Kathani Bridgerton." He breathes against her mouth.
"I love you too." Another yawn escapes Kate's mouth when he's done kissing her.
"Go back to sleep." Anthony caresses her arm. "I'll hold you and keep you warm."
Kate wraps her legs over him and comes even closer. "You always do..."

hey, could I request a James Potter fluff where he and the reader are either talking about their future together, or an actual fic of their future and like they have kids and stuff. super fluffy? :)
Hey! thank you so much for requesting! You are the first person to request and I squealed when I saw your message! ( Also, this is a really cute prompt and i enjoyed writing it!) I wasn't sure whether you wanted a female reader, so I tried to make it as gender neutral as possible (except a few moments in the fic). I hope you like it.
108 [ James Potter x reader ]
word count: 2067
[ warning; sorta female reader, fluff, mention of sex once (the word was mentioned), hand holding, kisses, pet names such as “love”, talk about children (mention of pregnancy), talk about marriage, bad interpretation of English slang, RESPECTFUL JAMES POTTER!!! ]
James had shimmered out of his quidditch dress robes, quickly pulling on his sweatpants and a maroon-coloured long sleeve. He ran his hand through his mess of hair, shaking it with his fingers as he tried to make it look a bit neater.
He smirked in the mirror, soon Sirius coming up behind him and posing in the mirror. James pushed at Sirius's shoulder, trying to get back in the spotlight of the mirror. The push started a small fight between the two boys, pushing and giggles exchanging between the two friends.
"Thinking I'm gonna go sneak into Hogsmeade, ya coming prongs?" Sirius asked, shaking out his damp hair as he ran a towel against it.
"S'gonna go hang out with my miss's" James replied, accent heavy and thick as he proceeded to shove his dirty robes into his bag.
"Ah, real serious between you two?" Sirius asked, smiling all goofy as he watched James go all swoony at the question.
"Course it's serious, I'm gonna marry her" James replied, red on his cheeks as he rubbed his nape.
As the words left his mouth, James potter almost had heart eyes as he thought about marrying you. If James loved anything more than quidditch and pumpkin juice, it was you.
"Alright alright, don't get sappy on me prongs. It's like 3rd year all over again" Sirius teased as he stood up and draped his bag over his shoulder.
James joined Sirius to the walk out of the changing rooms, bumping his shoulder as he shook his head towards the ground at the memory.
"That's different than now," James said.
"How so?" Sirius asked.
"Cause I know this isn't just love, it's forever" James replied, confident in his answer as he smiled bright towards Padfoot and Sirius couldn't help but smile back.
"The sex good?" Sirius asked, which made James shove him off to the side as he laughed.
"You absolute wanker," James said while laughing harder, almost falling forward which got Sirius clutching his stomach from laughing too hard at the sight of a stumbling James. After a few more steps and laughs, they both calmed down with their giggle fit.
"Alright, I'll see ya later" Sirius waved goodbye, separating ways as James headed towards the library.
James laughed through the halls, getting looks from passing students but he couldn't care less. He was giddy, he always got an excited nervous feeling in his veins as he saw you.
His heart almost exploded when he saw you pressed over a book, quill in your hand as you wrote down the information for a class you took.
When your head turned to see James, he watched as your eyes lit up and smiled towards him.
"James!" You called out, keeping your voice light as you didn't want it to travel through the quiet room. James felt like he was on liquid luck, he couldn't believe he had gotten someone like you all to himself.
"Good afternoon love, care for a walk around Hogwarts with me?" He asked, cutting off the distance as he walked over to you. He looked over what you were reading, a book about astrology with your notes scattered almost everywhere.
"I'd love that, but I just need to write down one more thing. Do you mind waiting?" You asked him, turning back to your page.
"Course not, I'll wait forever if I had too" he concluded, pulling out a chair as he sank down next to you.
James watched as your eyes darted towards the book then your quill, he watched as your hand began to move as you wrote down a few more notes. He was at peace, his lips quirking upwards as he watched you work.
His hand came up to push against your hair, pulling the strands behind your ear before gently guiding his knuckle over your cheek in an affectionate way.
You smiled at him, bringing your hand up as you guided his hand to your mouth. You placed a gentle kiss against his knuckle, before going back to writing.
James knew he should wait to say 'I love you, your relationship with him was only a month-long now, it was a bit too soon for the words to leave his lips. But James wanted to say those words so bad, he thought you were absolutely perfect in every way.
"Alright, I'm done!" You chimed, sliding the book back to where you found it as you gathered your notes together.
"Awesome, you can just leave your notes in my bag if you want," James said, standing up as he pushed in his chair, along with yours.
"Okay, thank you" you smiled at him, handing him your notes as he gently put them in his bag, not wanting to ruin them.
"Ready to go?" He asked, taking your hand into his as he joined your fingers together. You leaned against his shoulder, smiling up towards him as you nodded.
"Of course," you told him, both of you leaving the library as you go down the moving stairs. At one point you almost tripped, but James had grabbed your arm and hosted you upright.
"What would you do without me, love," James said while giving your a wink, making your giggle as he slid your hand back into his.
"I don't know James, I don't think I could live without you" you replied as James lead you out through a door towards the outside grounds.
The air was beautiful, a breeze shifting over you now, while bees and butterflies fly around. The flowers swayed perfectly, they baked in the sun glow.
You made James stop at a specific flower patch, your favourite. They were all sorts of colours, changing from white to dark blue as they stood up proudly.
"They're pretty" you concluded, head leaning on James' arm again as you smiled down at the flowers. Watching as bees sung around them.
"They remind me of someone" James replied, kissing your forehead as he watched you get awk-struck by some simple flowers.
"Oh James, you're such a flirt" You teased, taking your gaze away from the flowers as you gave your full attention to him. He pulled you along the grass, his hand squeezing yours once in a while.
"I know, only for you love," he said, guiding you down the doc as he stopped at the edge. Looking out at the deep lake, he let you sit first, helping you down without falling.
"The water looks clearer today," you told him, letting your legs hang off the side as your shoes hit the edge of the water.
"Is it? Looks the same to me, though can't really trust my eyes can we?" James said while pointing to his glasses, making you laugh as you leaned against his shoulder.
"You're funny James, I hope you never change"
"I won't, I'll be the same, even when we're 108 and almost dust," James said, his head leaning on yours as he took a comforting breath.
"108? No way will last that long, I'll give it until we're 80"
"80? That's too young!" James exclaimed, making you laugh as you pulled back from the embrace.
"What?" James asked, confused at your sudden movement as he watched you smile at him. You couldn't stop staring at the man in front of you, he was absolutely perfect.
"If I could, I would spend eternity with you" you whispered to him, your eyes soft and doughy as you felt the warmth of love fill you.
James was shocked, it took a moment for him to reply to you as he felt like bursting into tears. He felt the happiest he could, he knew he would marry you. There wasn't any doubt about it.
"Even when the world ends?" James asked, voice quiet as he leaned closer to you. He watched as your eyes softened.
"Of course James," you said to him, watching as his eyes shut quickly. Your eyes fluttered shut as well, feeling his lips connect with yours.
His hand held your face, cradling it as he deepened the kiss. He pulled away, eyes casting downwards as he locked eyes with you.
"I love you" James whispered, he knew he should have waited, but what's the point in hiding it? Everyone knew James Potter was in love with you.
"I love you too" you replied, whispering with him as you kissed him once more before turning back to look at the lake.
"Are we going to have a big wedding?" You asked him in the silence, you could almost hear the way James' heart was starting to pound against his chest.
"Of course; we're gonna invite everyone! Then, we'll go to Paris or Rome and travel for our honeymoon." James explained, he had thought about it quite a lot. Not in a weird obsessive way, the thought just crept in without a doubt and it stayed.
"Paris sounds nice, I hear they have good food" you chip in, smiling at the water as a wave crashed against your shoes.
"Oh they do, my aunt and I went a few years ago! You'll love it" he says, he was so sure about it. James picked up on likes and dislikes pretty easily, he could read anyone like an open book.
"I suppose Sirius would come over quite a lot, won't he? You both are basically brothers" you asked, you didn't mind Sirius; he was nice and unique.
"Oh defiantly! Who's gonna help out with our kids?" James said, confident with the fact Sirius would be an excellent role model.
"How many are there gonna be?" You asked, you weren't opposed to the thought of baring James children. James was perfect and kind, he would be an amazing father.
"As many as you want, but I wouldn't mind if we had a few, so they wouldn't get lonely" he explained, he began to play with his hands. When he was nervous, James would run his thumb over lines and veins on his hands.
You placed your hand into his, pulling it into your lap as you smiled towards him. This man was an angel, an absolute angel.
"How about 8?" You asked, watching as his eyes opened with innocence and happiness.
"Could we? Please they would be so cute!" James became wide-eyed, his heart was going rapid at the thought of it. His head was going fuzzy from the thought about it. He was so happy.
"Well, probably not 8, but around 3 or 5 I wouldn't mind" you conclude, happy with your answer. You haven't given much thought about marriage or children in your future, but dating James had started to make you wonder about your wants and needs.
"That's fine with me. If we could, I would love to adopt." James thought out loud, happy with the way his life was going. James Potter desperately wanted a huge family, he wanted to be a dad and he wanted to be the best at it.
"Of course, the more the merrier," you say, leaning into his chest as it began to grow colder. You shivered, sinking back into James' warmth as you held his hand tighter.
"Perfect. It's getting cold love, let's go inside before you catch a cold," James said, standing up before helping you up. His hand still laced in yours as he walked back up towards the school.
James started to swing your hands together, humming in contentment at the fact he would one day be married to you.
"Hey, think about it. [y/n] Potter. It sounds pretty catchy if you ask me!" James said, continuing to run the name through his head.
"It sounds nice, rolls right off the tongue. What about Mr. and Mrs. Potter! That sounds just as right too" you say, smiling like a goon. You felt like floating, everything was so light and carefree. It felt good to be with James.
"I like the sound of that!" James said, passing by the flowers you liked so much. He smiled, looked over at you and nodded to his realization. You were like a flower, pretty without an effort. Though James Potter didn't just like you for your beauty, your elegance and life energy were easy to enjoy as well.
As much as he loved his life at Hogwarts, James couldn't wait to grow up and start a new beginning with you.

──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
Once upon a time, Miya Osamu swore that he would never settle for second place again— He was never going to let another Miya score first place while he stood in the shadows. The twins had split paths after graduation, stepping onto stages where they'd never have to compete against each other for the spotlight again.
... Okay, who was he kidding. He'd be compared to Atsumu for his whole life— It wasn't like a different career would change that. Besides, his aunts were way too bored to not spin up something about him and his brother during family gatherings.
"Atsumu's making more money, isn't he?"
Well duh, he was a professional volleyball player, of course he made more money— Osamu wanted to roll his eyes in front of his aunts to make sure they understood that he heard their hushed whispers— But then again, he was an adult now, and he knew better than to stoop that low.
The comforting grip you had on his wrist also helped.
Things did get slightly better for him, though.
"Atsumu, your brother's already married," Osamu overheard his second aunt say to his twin during his wedding reception, "When are you going to settle down?"
The grey-haired Miya couldn't help but have a grin on his face for the entire night. Granted, the fact there was a silver ring on your finger also helped. You were absolutely radiant that night, and Osamu couldn't have been happier to finally be able to introduce you as his spouse.
Osamu's marriage did tilt more pressure towards his twin's way, because not more than half a year later, Atsumu caved in and found a sweet little thing to share his life with. The setter had had a couple flings here and there in his earlier years— But none of them ever lasted that long, and Atsumu had never introduced them to his brother, which is how Osamu knew that his twin really cared about the girl when the golden-haired man visited Onigiri Miya with her hanging on his arms.
If he didn't have the decency to help his brother maintain a good image, Osamu would've straight-up snorted at how tense his twin was when he served onigiri up onto their table, the shop empty with the exception of one table. It was almost like Atsumu was seeking Osamu's approval— Which was hilarious enough without the fact that the setter was nervous about it.
At the end of the night, it was as if the weight of the world was lifted off Atsumu's shoulders. Kaoru— The name of Osamu's potential sister-in-law— Got along wonderfully with you, who kept the shy-but-bright woman entertained as Osamu dragged his twin into the kitchen to make fun of him.
"Oh, go easy on him," You elbowed him lightly as the two of you closed up the shop for the night, wiping down the tables and tucking the chairs in. "Atsumu genuinely cares about her, he's making an effort!"
Osamu let out the snort he had held in for most of the evening. "I wouldn't be his brother if I didn't make fun of him."
"Boys." You muttered, just loud enough for him to hear. You had been around to catch the tail-end of some of Atsumu's previous relationships, so you could tell that Kaoru was different; In a way, Atsumu looked at her the same way Osamu eyed a nice piece of mackerel in the grocery shop.
"I heard that! C'mere," Osamu grinned, tackling you from the back. A smile burst across his lips when a giggle erupted from your lips, a cloth rag smacking him in the face when you tried to wriggle away from his hold. "You aren't getting away, pumpkin. Save your energy for later."
He wriggled his eyebrows suggestively, yelping when he was smacked with the rag again.
"There won't be a later if you keep that up." You warned, laughing when horror instantly swept over his expression. His protests echoed in your ears as you thought about how this marriage was something you'd never regret. Yes, it was rough because his business took off on a rocky road, but you knew there was no gain without pain, so you hung on and saw him through to the fruits of his labour.
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
The next family meeting was graced with the presence of Kaoru, who, in turn, had been graced with your advice.
"Dress decently, do not wear black," You had warned her the night before on the phone, grimacing at the memory of your first Miya family dinner. No one had aunts more judgemental than the Miya twins. "I would suggest going with a dress. Oh, and it might help to bring a gift. A bottle of Ginseng Wine might be a good idea."
"We're here," Osamu parked the car outside the family home, subconsciously wincing at the sight of his aunts' vehicles. "... Ah. They’re here."
"I see they turned up early," You grimaced, "Atsumu and Kaoru-chan are going to have a brilliant night."
"Yup." Your husband grinned slightly at that, earning a smack for smiling at his brother's suffering. "Oh, he'll be fine. We'll mention that when Atsumu really needs saving." The wink he sent your way made your stomach butterflies flutter, but the warm touch of his fingers on your hand made them settle. "We'll be fine," Osamu's eyes softened as he met yours, reassuring you. "You've got me, remember? Worst case scenario, we'll just high-tail out of there and say we need to work tomorrow."
"Right," You released a breath of relief, interlocking your fingers with his. "Ready?"
"To see Atsumu suffer?" Osamu quipped. "Hell yeah."
And suffer did Atsumu. Kaoru wasn’t spared (of course she wasn’t—) and was judged from head-to-toe by the Miya's critical aunts. From the way they were eyeing her, you'd think they were the judges of Miss Universe instead of potential aunt-in-laws. Despite that, Kaoru braved the storm and stood strong through the whole night, her resilience shining with her determination to be with the other Miya twin— Osamu nodded his approval at that.
After dinner, the family gathered in the living room, with the elderly seated on the cushioned couches while the twins were squashed together on a bean bag (that you had to convince them to share, because apparently they were adamant about pushing the other off of it). Kaoru and you managed to snag a small corner of a couch, stifling your laughter at the sour faces of your respective significant others.
"So, Kaoru-san," Four heads collectively flinched when the aunt opened her mouth, "What's your job? Yearly salary?"
"Um, I'm... I'm a newspaper editor," Kaoru fidgeted with the strap of her bag while you resisted the urge to snap at her to look as confident as she could if she didn't want the interrogation to go on for the rest of the night. A shy, nervous thing like her would only make the predator's lick their lips at the sight of easy prey.
"Oh! That makes sense," The woman sneered, Osamu's mother not-so-discreetly turning up the volume of the television in hopes that the conversation would be drowned out. "You definitely dress with the salary of an editor."
Offence flashed across Atsumu's face like lightning, but before he could start a fight to defend his girlfriend's honour, Osamu dragged his brother back onto the bean bag and stood up.
"Excuse me, everyone," Osamu put on his practiced customer-service smile flawlessly, capturing everyone's attention instantly. "Y/N and I have an announcement to make." His eyes met yours, and you nodded, a smile waltzing across your lips.
"Mother, father," You begin, addressing your in-laws like you addressed your own parents. Encouragement swirled in your blood as Osamu interlocked your hands and squeezed your fingers. "You're going to be grandparents."
It took a while for the news to kick in.
"Oh, that's wonderful!" Osamu's mother cried out, rushing to envelop you in a hug that you gracefully accepted. "Do you know the gender yet?"
"Of course not, mother." Osamu rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "We're not that far along yet."
"That's amazing! Congratulations!" Kaoru beamed brightly, not having picked up on Osamu's timely intervention.
"Thank you." You replied warmly.
"Well then, are you going to stop working?" The first aunt shot at you, smirking, coy as ever. She knew that you weren't the type to drop your job just because of an incoming child.
"Of course not." You replied easily, "What kind of spouse would I be if I couldn't help carry the financial burdens with my husband?"
She shut her trap instantly, huffing in fury. Osamu had never looked prouder.
The family rejoiced for a little longer, and from the tip of your ears, you heard Osamu gloating slightly about having reached another milestone earlier than his brother.
"I love you," Your husband murmured into the crook of your neck as the two of you cuddled in the warmth of your bed, too far for his aunts' sharp words to hurt you. "And our little boy in there.”
“How do you know it’s a boy?”
“... Father’s instinct.”
Months flew by in a blur, and so did doctor appointments, Sunday shopping trips with Kaoru as you left Atsumu to help Osamu in the restaurant. The pair would drive the half-an-hour trip from Osaka to Hyogo every weekend. This arrangement elicited a couple silly arguments between the twins, of course, but once you taught Kaoru the stern look that would make the two settle like guilty puppies with their tails between their legs— Those arguments became simple matters to handle.
“Have you thought of names yet?” Kaoru asked you while the two of you sipped on coffee.
“I have a couple in mind,” You smiled. “Osamu won’t stop going on about how he was right. The baby’s a boy.”
“Boys will be boys,” Kaoru rolled her eyes. Then, her expression changed to a wistful one. “This might sound odd, but… I just find myself thinking, sometimes… One day, I want what you and Osamu have.”
“... A happy marriage?” You raised an eyebrow, “Honey, you’re already on your way to one. Atsumu looks at you the same way ‘Samu looks at a bowl of gyudon. Or the way I look at a bucket of mint ice cream with peanut butter…”
Kaoru made a concerned look. “The baby sure craves some odd things.”
“You’ll experience this one day.” You returned pointedly. “Logically, I never would’ve thought of eating mint chocolate ice cream with peanut butter slathered on… But cravings are cravings. And it was surprisingly nice.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
After nine long months of waiting, Miya Tomohito was welcomed to the world. Osamu cried (Atsumu made fun of him for it before getting smacked by Kaoru— She was learning a lot from you). Both yours and Osamu’s parents wouldn’t stop gawking at your baby boy, with his little tuff of dark hair, his tightly-fisted hands and the slight cherry-red flush of his cheeks. You never thought you’d fall in love at first sight— But your son was living proof that you were wrong. From the first moment you held him in your arms, you had already given a piece of your heart for him to hold in his tiny little hands.
It quickly became a regular sight for frequent customers of Onigiri Miya to see Osamu walking around the shop, a sleeping baby boy strapped to his back. The two were inseparable. Once, you walked in on your husband having a full conversation with Tomohito, who was sucking on a spoon.
“I’m thinking of adding a twist to my tuna onigiri recipe,” Osamu said, as if he were talking to an adult and not a three-month old baby. “Do you think adding a squeeze of lemon juice will make it taste better?”
“Gwa.” Tomohito replied intelligently.
“Great suggestion, Tomo.”
“Mmm.”
“I see. We could go to the grocery store later to get some tuna and try that recipe tonight.”
“Ba.”
“You’re a genius, Tomo.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
“I can’t believe you.” Osamu looked helpless. “You’re not… You’re not seriously doing this to me.”
“I’m completely serious.” You said firmly, having put your foot down with no room for argument.
“You’re really choosing him over me?” Your husband’s jaw dropped when you nodded solemnly. “I’m your husband!”
“And he’s my son.” You shot back instantly.
“You’re kicking me out of our bed for our son?”
“He’s sick!” You refuted. “I need him to be as close as possible to me. His fever hasn’t gone down completely yet and I can’t let him go back into his cot tonight. Besides, you might get sick if we all sleep in the same bed. Who’ll take care of the shop then?”
Osamu drooped visibly. He couldn’t believe what was happening— He had lost to a Miya once again— Now his son instead of his brother. “Fine.” He mumbled sadly. “Make your poor husband sleep on the couch.”
“It’s only for one night, ‘Samu.”
──────── ⋆⋅❉⋅⋆ ────────
Tomohito's name is written as 智仁. '智' means intelligence and '仁' means compassionate. I have a friend named Tomohito.
Also, when I was writing this I reminded myself to make sure I made the reader gender-neutral. That is, until I realised that I made the reader pregnant. I am an idiot.

An awkward Meeting
(A/N): This was requested by an anon. I'm happy to finally present you this one, I really had fun writng it, because it's practically a casual slice out of the crime fighting lovelies :) Enjoy it!
Summary: Derek's daughter accompanies her Aunt and Uncle to the convention. That's pretty much it. Except for that one awkward meeting...
Warnings: A little awkwardness, Kevin Lynch, mentions of murdering someone (it's a joke), the reader dresses up as Black Widow (dunno why I say this, but maybe someone doesn't feel comfortable dressing up as a white/female character)
Wordcount: 1k

Derek Morgan is the king of teasing. No, really. If there was a medal and trophy for teasing, he would definitely have it displayed in his glass cabinet next to his daughter’s achievements.
That’s why (Y/N) has to defend her choice to go with her Aunt Penelope and Uncle Spencer to the bone. “Princess, are you really sure you want to do that? I mean, I won’t be mad to take you back home. We can relax on the couch or look at the new house I want to renovate. What do you say?”
(Y/N) pushes the hair from her wig out of her face. “I say no. Dad, I promised them to go and I worked way too hard and long on this cosplay to just don’t use it. Face the facts, your daughter is a nerd dressed in a Black Widow costume.”
Derek laughs and tries to ruffle her hair from his position without causing a car crash. “You, little missy, spent too much time with your Uncle Spencer when you were younger. I think I have to keep both of you from interacting with each other.”
“Oh shut it, you love us and our nerdy rants. Also you have to take the next exit”, his daughter says while looking at her phone for the directions. “Oh okay. I see. You don’t trust your old man bringing you to your little geek event or what?” He teases her and takes the turn.
“Ok, have fun with your Aunt and Uncle. Penelope will bring you home after you ate dinner together. Be good for them, understood?” “Yes”, (Y/N) murmurs while checking her bag.
Her father smirks. “Yes what?” “Sir, yes, Sir. Better?” He pulls her in for a hug. “Much. I love you.” The teenager opens the door and responds: “Love you, too! See you later!” And off she is, the red curls of her wig bouncing with her very step.
“Ah, there she- Oh my god, this cosplay is amazing, like literally everything. You really have to steal our spotlight, do you?” Penelope gushes over (Y/N)’s outfit. “No, I mean look at you. And Spencer, did you handknit that scarf, because I’ve been looking for one like this for ages and I couldn’t find one. You have to show me the pattern if you did.”
After a while of babbling over each other’s cosplay and how certain parts got done, the trio decides to go into the convention. “Okay, the TV Movie is at Hall H at 9. Can we go to that?” Penelope asks, being a step ahead of them. She is practically glowing with excitement.
“Absolutely!” Spencer tells her, being as delighted as the blonde techie. “Do you guys think we can make it to the Enterprise panel at 11? I really wanna see that”, (Y/N) nearly begs. She didn’t wait for nearly two months to miss it in the end.
Penelope nods. “Probably. Thank you both for coming.” “Of course, I wouldn’t want to miss it for the world”, the genius tells her. Together they go into the convention and nerd out about any little thing.
“Do you guys think my Dad would be mad if I bought that Bucky hoodie and Captain America shield after purchasing two pop figures already?” (Y/N) asks, looking indecisive. “There is only one way to find out", encourages Spencer with a sly smirk.
A little later they leave the complex to get a bit of fresh air after spending hours upon hours in a clamped building. As they fangirl about other people’s cosplays, they meet a familiar face.
“Penelope!” “Kevin” Garcia counters, though she is more solemn. “You came and brought a friend. CSU technician Sharp how are you?” Spencer and (Y/N) look at each other uncomfortably. This is definitely the most awkward situation they ever witnessed.
After telling Kevin how lame the whole convention is, Penelope takes her companions by the arm and drags them away.
“Wow, I’ve never seen Penelope Garcia this stiff. Are you sure you don’t have a stick up your-” “I dare you to end that sentence and I’ll tell your father the real amount of money you just spent in there”, she cuts the teenager off, looking her deadly serious into the eye.
This whole Kevin thing pretty much killed the mood, but they still go on with their day. They even meet Rossi, who seems like he just wants to forget that he saw the three of them in costumes.
Later that evening, (Y/N) sits with her Aunt on her couch nearly passed out from the food coma they induced themselves in. “To be honest, Penny, I think you can do 1000 times better without Kevin. Also, I can 100% kill that guy for you, I watched enough Bones episodes to know how to do the perfect crime.”
The blonde laughs and cuddles her godchild closer to her. “Naw, I can’t let you do that as a responsible wine aunt, but I thank you very much for the offer. Now get up, I have to get you home else your father will send out a search party with dogs and as much as I want to pet them I don’t think he will be happy about it.”
That night Derek enters his daughter’s room, spotting her on her bed nearly asleep. “I had the most awkward meeting today, Dad. It was even worse than your cooking fiasco last Christmas.” “Nothing is worse than that. The only thing able to trump that is Penelope meeting Kevin”, he laughs quietly. But as he sees his daughter nodding, his eyes go wide. “No they didn’t!”
“They did and it was super awkward!” Derek lays himself beside her. “Spill the beans. I have to know everything about that to tease your aunt at work.”
And this is exactly how they fall asleep, cuddled close to each other, gossiping about anyone they don't like.

Always In My Heart
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Alyssa Brooks)
A/N: On today’s episode of ‘I have no idea wtf I’m doing’, we have something that I cooked up because I had terrible WiFi and no other app but Google docs would open up.
Trope: Fluff, but a tiny bit of angst?
Rating: General
Word Count: 2.3K
Warning(s): Mentions of character death
Summary: Their son has a very important question to ask.
Tumblr media
——————————
The delicious aroma of chicken and rice wafted through the Brooks-Ramsey household. The couple worked side by side in the kitchen as they had all those years ago, the only difference being that it was now a dinner for five and not just two.
Allison Dolores Brooks-Ramsey came into their lives nine years ago, and while it was earlier than they would have wanted, they didn’t regret a second of their lives ever since they first heard her voice.
The twins on the other hand, were planned, but nothing had prepared them for the chaos that Nathan and Natalie would bring. A new broken object every week, a dozen fights for the TV every day, and yet were nothing short of tiny tornadoes when they joined forces.
It couldn’t be more perfect.
“What time did Jackie and Emilia say that they would bring the girls back?”
“6:30, I think.”
“Ah. So we have time till 7:00.” They shared a knowing smile. Two aunts taking their nine and six year old nieces to the mall meant a complete raid of the toy store, and a new guitar.
“You need to stop letting everyone spoil the girls just because you have a soft spot for them, Ethan. Ally’s grown old enough to understand that she has her daddy wrapped around her finger, and we don’t need Nat coming to that realisation as well.”
“I don’t- I can’t believe you would accuse me of not loving all my children equally!”, he exclaimed in mock offense.
“Mhmm. So why did I have to come up with an explanation to tell Nathan why his dad wasn’t on board with ordering dessert when he asked for it, but relented once his sisters kept bugging him for another five minutes?”
He opened his mouth in protest, but decided against saying anything for his own good. “Well what can I say? They’ve inherited their mother’s persuasiveness. And I can’t really say no to you, can I?”
Alyssa’s lips curved upwards at that. The playful look in her husband’s eyes caused her to finally break into a grin. “At least you’re self-aware.” Stuffing the rice into the bird she added, “But I can’t exactly tell our son that his dad is too in-love with his mom that he sees her in his daughters and hence can’t say no to them. He’d gag in disgust.”
He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her, resting his head in the crook of her neck. “That he would. Alright I’ll try a little harder to resist their charms. Wouldn’t want my only son to end up hating me.” He said it without a hint of worry over it becoming true someday. Over the years, he’d learned to put aside his fears of not being a good father, and with the help of some therapy, and Alyssa’s unwavering love and support, he’d locked up his insecurities in a box and let it sink to the bottom of the ocean.
They took the stuffed chicken and put it in the oven, washed their hands and plopped down on the couch for some rare downtime.
“Crap.”
“Everything okay?”
“Fred’s mom got called in, so she’s dropping Nate off on her way to work.”
Ethan sighed. “There goes the hour I planned to spend with my wife, who I barely get to spend enough time with these days.”
“I swear, you were never this busy when you were chief. I have no idea why my workload’s ten times bigger.”
“I do.” Ethan smiled with pride. “One usually does have a lot of work when they’re at the front lines of the battle for making free healthcare accessible for every single person in the country. My brilliant wife, though she could choose to leave most of the work to her very competent team, opts to take it all upon herself. So that’s probably the cause behind all the extra workload she complains about.”
She smirked and perched herself onto his lap. “Well your very brilliant wife also knows that you called my team very competent just to avoid hurting my feelings, and that you and I both know that they’ll be running around like headless chickens without me taking care of things.”
“I know, love. But you can still make them do a little more instead of working yourself to the bone while still making sure that you have at least one meal with the kids every day.”
She sighed. “Yeah, to make sure that they don’t forget what I look like.” She leaned in closer. “Besides, are we really going to spend our last few minutes of peace talking about work?”
Just as she uttered the words, the door burst open, and Nathan kicked off his shoes and jumped onto the couch as Alyssa slid down from Ethan’s lap. She shot him a look that very clearly meant What did I just say?
Ethan gave her an apologetic look and ruffled his son’s hair. “Hey buddy. How was your day at Fred’s? I know you wanted to spend more time with him.”
“I did, and we were just about to open his new LEGO set when Mrs. Watson told us that she had to run up to her office for some emergency meeting.”, he pouted. “But it was a nice day. We watched Thor: Ragnarok and Luca, and we would’ve watched another movie if his dad didn’t tell us that two movies were enough for a day.”
Alyssa shot him a mildly stern look. “Well he was right. You’re too young to have movie marathons just yet. Two are more than enough, unless you want to have a headache.”
“But mom, I’m not too young! I’m a big boy! I can swing along the monkey bars at the park faster than Natalie, and soon I’ll swing across buildings just like Spider-Man!”
“Well Spider-Man got bitten by a yucky spider before he swung across buildings. Do you want to be bitten by a gross and poisonous spider?”
“Mommy, not all spiders are gross and poisonous. Dad told me that when I was four and got scared of them at the zoo.”
She rolled her eyes. Leave it to her husband to convince her kids that insects were anything short of creepy and disgusting. In reality, they were, but as someone who ran a mile away at the sight of a butterfly, she wasn’t going to accept that.
“That’s right, Nate. Some of them are certainly very poisonous and dangerous, but that doesn’t mean that you should be scared of them. If you maintain your distance and admire them from afar, there should be no problem at all.”, he said with a pointed look at Alyssa, who just huffed in annoyance.
Nathan giggled, his brown eyes lighting up with amusement. He loved watching his parents playfully bicker. It was way better than seeing them- ugh, kiss.
“We were pretending to be superheroes and Fred used his full name for his pretend name cause it sounded cool, and it is. Fredrick Anthony Watson sounds like something from that show you and mom watch with the guys in the stuffy suits.”
“When did you see us watching the show with the guys in the stuffy suits?”, asked Ethan with a slight hint of concern. Whatever he and Alyssa watched on their free nights was definitely not kid-friendly.
“I don’t remember. Maybe a few months ago.”
Their year old puppy, Ivy, woke up from her nap and bounced into the living room to jump onto her favourite person. Nathan squealed with joy as the fluffy hair of the dog tickled his nose.
Ethan and Alyssa smiled at each other. Getting another dog after Jenner was a decision that took a lot of convincing, but their kids were responsible enough and it was impossible to say no after two years of constant pestering.
“Fred told me that he was named after his great-grandfather William, and that he was this really cool guy who saved a bunch of guys from getting mugged in a dark, dark alley.” He turned to look at his parents as Ivy snuggled into his lap. “Who was I named after mom?”
The question caught her off guard, and she glanced at Ethan for backup.
When they knew that they were having a boy, they immediately knew what to name him. They hadn't, however, anticipated Nathan Daniel Brooks-Ramsey to ask such a question this soon.
Seeing his wife at a loss for words, Ethan spoke up. “C’mere Nate.” He pulled him closer and pressed a kiss atop his head. “We once had a friend named Daniel. He worked at the hospital as a nurse, and he was close to your mom and Aunt Sienna when they were interns.”
Having found her voice, Alyssa joined in. “He was an amazing friend. He was the only nurse in the hospital who helped me out when things got messy, and cheered up Aunt Sienna when no one else could. He’d join us for picnics and movie nights, and you could always count on him if you needed something at the hospital.” She took a deep breath, and Ethan nodded. “Things were going well, but then in my second year, something really bad happened.”
“Oh no.”
“There was this bad guy, who wanted his revenge on another bad guy, and he was ready to risk his own life, and the lives of everyone around him to do so.”
“That’s horrible! Who would want to do something like that?”
Ethan smiled wistfully. “A lot of people in this world actually do. You’re a good person, so you know that it’s wrong. But some people aren’t, and they don’t care about other people getting hurt because of their actions. That night at the hospital, Danny tried to tell the bad guy that it was wrong, and to think things through. But he didn’t listen, and did something that hurt both himself, Danny, Uncle Raf, another friend of ours, and your mom.”
His little eyebrows creased with worry, Nathan asked, “What happened then?”
“He… he died. Along with our other friend, Bobby. Do you remember what we once told you about an autopsy?” Nathan nodded his head. “Well Danny asked for his body to be autopsied, and thanks to him, we were able to find out what was wrong with mom and Uncle Raf.”
He fell silent for a moment, remembering the horrors of the day, and how eternally grateful he was to Danny for being the reason he didn’t lose everything. He couldn’t imagine a life without the love of his life and his children, and he wouldn’t have either if not for the sacrifices that were made.
He looked up at Alyssa, and she squeezed his hand in support. “We’ll tell you more when you’re older, but to make it short, you’re named after a hero too. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have you, your sisters, or mom here with me.”
Nathan wriggled out of his dad’s arms, and set Ivy down so he could hug his mom as tightly as he could.
“Well… if you can hear me Mr. Daniel, I just wanna thank you. Thanks for saving my mom. I love her so much and I’m so thankful that I got to meet her because of what you did. I wish I could’ve met you, you sound like a really cool person, and I’m sure you were. So yeah, thanks. A lot.”
Alyssa’s eyes glimmered with unshed tears, and she held her son as she expressed her silent thanks along with Ethan.
What they had was precious.
Fifteen years had passed since they first met, and yet each day they fell in love a little more like they did when they held hands for the first time in the dim light of the NICU watching over little Ethan, or when she finally got to see the real him the first time she visited his place; the first time in years he let someone know a little of the worries residing deep in his heart.
With all the odds against them, it was a miracle that they survived, even more so that they managed to raise three perfect children who had more love to share than they could ever comprehend.
And they’d never forget all the reasons that made it possible for them to survive.
Ding!
The timer on the oven went off, and they got to their feet to get the chicken.
“Was he a good cook dad?”
“I… don’t really know, Nate. Your mom knew him better than I did.”
“Well there was this one time where he helped Aunt Sienna bake an amazing cake, so I guess he knew his way around the kitchen.”, Alyssa recollected fondly. It was for Jackie’s birthday, one of the few nights where the competition was completely forgotten about.
Nathan’s face melted into a glowing smile. “I love cake. So I guess I really would’ve loved him.”
She mirrored his radiant expression. “You definitely would’ve.”
“Why don’t you go play with Ivy while mom and I get the food ready? You can help us with the dessert later.”
“We’re having dessert?!”
Ethan grinned at his son’s excitement. “You bet we are.”
“Yay!” They watched as Nathan ran off to go play fetch with Ivy in their enormous backyard.
Ethan pulled Alyssa in for a sweet, lingering kiss as soon as he was out of sight.
“You’ve been wanting to do that for a while now hmm?”
“Something like that.”, he murmured as they broke apart.
She could see the ever-increasing strands of silver in his brown hair, and the faint wrinkles along the sides of his forehead, but his clear blue eyes were just as loving and devoted as she remembered from over a decade ago.
“We have a pretty good life, don’t we?”
Ethan kissed her again. “No, we have the perfect life.”

hey any1 want some superman jon and batman Damian hcs? too bad cause you’re getting them
• damian realized why no one wanted to be batman when he turned 18 and Bruce decided to give him batman when he was 22.
• jon realized why jon didn’t want to be superman when he also turned 18
• oh and right, by gave, I mean bruce sorta can’t be batman anymore. medical reasons…
• damian sorta uh. persuaded clark into giving jon superman.
Damian: look. I don’t wanna be worlds finest with you, old man.
Clark: im- im not old—
Damian: listen here, jon and i? we are gonna surpass you and my dad. so give it to jon and let me prove it.
Clark: this doesn’t seem like a good idea— you aren’t ready— neither is jon
Damian: wait- wait, you don’t believe in your son and i??? wow. WOOOW. okay. i see.
Clark: that’s not it!-
Damian: sure. sure. don’t worry. I see now.
Clark: wait I do!
Damian: no, no you don’t.. it’s— it’s okay, I get it, it’s me, huh?
Clark: no!
Damian: I get it
Clark: please i do! I’ll - oh my rao, you’re playing me
Damian: i am. i cant do this without jon though. please, Clark.
Clark: *sigh, how did he get manipulated by a kid he used to babysit* okay.
• okay so now jon may be a little overwhelmed because one day he’s flamebird, the next, he’s becoming superman? huH. it’s extremely uh. worrying. and really just? wow.
• does Damian feel bad? oh yeah. he does. so bad. but he really can’t do it alone. they always dreamed of being their parents. or being better than them. but they grew up and realized that they really didn’t want to be their parents.
• but here they were, getting fitted for their suits and adding their own details to it.
jon: hey, you look hot
damian: please. shut up.
• they could do this. they could do this. shoot they can’t do this.
• damians own anxiety was going 50 mph. look, okay? remember before heretic when Bruce thought that Damian would become a satanic batman and basically rain hell all over gotham? yeah. that’s what is going on in damians mind.
• he doesn’t want to be that. ( “you won’t be like that, cmon, d, we’re gonna be better.” ) and how Damian wants to believe jon so bad..
• he doesn’t want to become obsessed with Batman like his father did, he still wants to have a life. he doesn’t want to isolate himself away and adopt kids as a coping mechanism. that’s why he needs jon to be superman. jon helps him, he helps him not go off into his own little world and stay there. he believes that with Jon, he’ll be okay. he has to be. maybe he uses jon as his own coping mechanism, but that isn’t the point.
• together, they will outshine their parents. the supersons can do this. they are the next generation, and it’s not like they are alone. they have so many other people to help them. they’ll be okay.
• they have been preparing for this their whole life, but they both feel like they got it too soon. they thought they had more time. Damian does feel guilty when he hears jon talking about how stressed he is about superman and not living up to whatever the hell he has to live up to, but Damian does fear what would. or could. have happened if he didn’t have jon with him. becoming batman took a lot out of him, more than he would like to admit. he just got constant flashbacks to heretic and that whole fiasco he thought he put behind him a loong time ago.
Jon: are you sure you’re okay?
Damian: yes idiot, quit worrying.
Jon: I’ll always worry about, d.
• jon somehow becomes MORE sappier when he becomes superman.
• okay, also, funny story. ( Clark and Bruce don’t find it funny AT ALL ) superman and batman? yeah they sorta kissed after an almost alien invasion. in their suits. uh. in front of an alien who they were arresting for the green lanterns. most people believe that when people say it, it’s a lie, kidding. no they don’t. there were pictures.
bruce: you want to explain this?
damian: not really, no.
• the public knows there’s a new Batman and Superman since yk. Jon’s face is public and was seen as superboy flamebird and now superman, and batman was slightly smaller and had some different moves
• but here’s their main line up: batman ( dami wamie, obvi ), superman ( jonnyboy kent ), nobody ( maya:)) ), green lantern ( tai pham, my baby boy ), lace ( wallace west 2, he goes by lace instead of flash because i said so. ), and shazam ( billy b ).
• fun fact, they have a den mother even though they are all in their 20s. poor dinah.. yeah black canary is their den mother. ( stole it from from yj )
• dinah makes sure they get their injuries checked out, train regularly, and you know. don’t blow up a building.
• again.
• ( when damian and jon were younger, in their teen years, they stupidly accidentally blowed up a building. in their defense, the building was owned by the penguin. and there were no civilians in the area. but they also got a lot of men sent after them.. oops. )
• they are very chaotic. they are the definition of dumbass energy sometimes.
Tumblr media
• damian tries to keep the pda down whenever he’s batman, BUT JON DOESNT KNOW HOW TO DO THAT
• hence the amount of photos of jon hugging Damian or kissing him
• damian has never once initiated one in suits
• ( that one time jon almost died does not count )
Damian: thought you were gonna be batman.
Tim: nah, i don’t wanna be bruce. i saw what it did to dick. I would’ve became just like him.
Damian: am i like him??
Tim: god no, bruce would never kiss superman or date him or spray paint the new justice league logo— nice logo, by the way— onto villains bases
Damian: is that a good or bad thing?
Tim; good, that means you probably won’t be a total emotional stunted person using crime fighting as an outlet for unresolved childhood trauma.
Damian: you do realize why i became Robin right
Tim: .. not the point im trying to make. I mean now, brat.
• sometimes you can see some of the heroes dropping by to surprise kids, they heard that their old mentors used to go to children’s hospitals to visit sick kids, so they did that too. on a rare day where there isn’t any crime, which is really rare, they go to a school and talk if it’s a weekday, or they drop by an orphanage to hang out with kids.
• they have gotten into a lot of trouble though. they’re still learning how to work as a team. jon and damian are used to being solo and working with each other, Tai had tagged along a few times when they were younger and knows how they work, along with maya, but billy and Wallace do not.
• they often all get into arguments.
• damian lacks a filter and will criticize everyone if they mess up. and he often goes off alone or is too blunt.
• it takes a long time before they all realize that Damian is just: Damian, he doesnt mean to be mean. ( surprisingly )
• billy is used to being the big kid stuck at the kids table, it’s funny that he’s actually the second oldest when he used to be the youngest. ( lace is like.. 27? shazam is 25.. nobody 24. & the supersons 22. pulled all those ages outta my ass. you’re welcome. )
• dinah is also their therapist. poor dinah.
• like really giving pity to dinah. but dinah loves those kids, she has known some since they were kids. she used to take damian out for ice cream and train with him, and also babysit him. ( AUNT DINAH IS MY FAVORITE GOODBYE ). and she did the same with Jon.
• dinah actually does help a lot of them get over their trauma, not completely, but most have finally spoken about it. they began talking after they all got hit with fear gas.
• that was a bad night.
• they had almost disbanded before when they thought lace had died by the hands of captain cold. they had been arguing all day, and if they didn’t, they might’ve saved him:
• but turns out he wasn’t dead.
• but the argument was still there, and it was strong. it took a while for them to actually work together without dinah forcing them.
• then soon came another new member after maya left to go do some undercover mission for the justice league regarding some alien tech being distributed some place. it was a sad goodbye, but she would be back and she would have a place here.
• welcoming: yara flor. yara was a bit headstrong and wild. damian has screamed at her a lot and almost got into a fist fight with her before being dragged off by his boyfriend 💋
• but she settled in fine. minus the fact damian really wanted to shove a batarang up— anyways. she just had to learn teamwork and shit, she was used to being a solo and she was somewhat new. so they helped her out and she became a solid member of the team.
• sometimes damian and jon just go and sit on a rooftop like they did as kids togeyher. just alone with each other. thinking about how their life changed so quickly.
Damian: i thought we’d ruin our fathers’ legacies and plummet to the ground.
Jon: *he coughed* ..what?
Damian: yeah. i didn’t think we’d get this far, but here we are.
Jon: of course we got this far, and we’re gonna get further.
Damian: i know.
• oh yeah. so. superman. fucking proposed after they defeated darkseid. ( the battle was long, so many people were left injured and on the brick of death, Damian and jon had been separated when it all started. Damian had stayed on earth at first before going to apokolips. Damn he hadn’t seen it since he got resurrected.
Darkseid: oh. I remember you.
Damian: mhm?
Darkseid: ah yes, the little boy who was resurrected here.. the chaos share, your father used it on you.
Damian: i know. i remember what happened. I was there afterall.
Darkseid: I wonder if you are as smart as the original batman.
Damian: i am.
• damian was buying time. he was waiting for reinforcements, namely the people who had powers and could take him down. damian wasn’t stupid. he realized darkseid liked to talk. his friends were fighting off the female furys or whatever they were called. he just had to wait and entertain.
Darkseid: quite the ego there.
Damian: i saved the justice league when i was 13, i deserve to have an ego.
Darkseid: oh, you are by far more talkative than the original.
Damian: thanks.
Darkseid: not a compliment, you fool.
• yeah so. darkseid tried to kill damian, with a beam thing. Damian was about to flip away like the baddie he is, but. jon. went out and yk. took the hit. dumbass.
Damian: you have such a big hero complex.
Jon: wow I just saved you and that’s what you say?????
Damian: yes.
• anyways, after they defeat darkseid, jon pops out a ring from his pocket and asks damian to marry him on apokolips.
Damian: you seriously couldn’t wait til we got on earth?
Jon: dames you almost died. what if- what if something happens, I’ve been putting this off for so long. cmon please?
Damian: you’re seriously asking me to marry you here where, I’m pretty sure, a lot of shit happened to our parents here.
Jon: no time like the present.
Damian: fair. okay.
Jon: just okay???
Damian: im sorry, do you want me to cry or something?
Jon: ughh, you can be so extra and petty sometimes.
Damian: i am not being petty.
Jon: just because I ask you to marry me here you wanna be like “okay” and that’s it
Damian: you’re so dramatic. I’ll marry you. I wanna marry you. Better?
Jon: yeah:)

extra 1 for Tedious Joys, with thanks to all the suggestions from people engaged in the discussion on tumblr, your ideas were fantastic and I used all that I could fit in!
-
Before Lan Qiren left to attend the first discussion conference held after Nie Mingjue’s ascension to the position of Nie sect leader – a notion that still gave Lan Qiren a stomachache merely to think of it – Lao Nie made him promise three times over that he would keep an eye on his painfully earnest, straightforward eldest son and keep him from doing anything foolish.
“Of course I will,” Lan Qiren finally said, exasperated: any more nagging, and he was going to be late. When he’d thought to himself that he’d picked up a wife, he hadn’t really expected this part of it; if anything, he assumed he’d be the one doing the nagging. “You know perfectly well that he’s as dear to me as my nephews! I don’t know why you feel the need to even ask.”
“Your nephews have good self-control, a trait my Nie sect most definitively lacks,” Lao Nie said. “We’re all in agreement that it’s not yet time to challenge Hanhan. What if A-Jue forgets that and, I don’t know, punches him in the face?”
“He won’t,” Lan Qiren said. “He’s a good boy, your son; you’ve told him not to, so he won’t. Anyway, if it really comes to it, I won’t let him.”
Finally, Lao Nie let him leave, and Lan Qiren made his way to the Lotus Pier for the discussion conference. Nie Mingjue and his retinue had arrived shortly before he did, the circles under his eyes and the small signs of mourning he still wore making him look older than he ought to be; there was a scowl fixed on his face that did not disappear entirely even when he nodded to Lan Qiren, although it did soften a little.
Lan Qiren’s heart hurt for him. To manage an entire sect at fifteen – even with support, the pressures of it must be well-nigh unbearable, and it looked as though Nie Mingjue had started using his cultivation to get him through all the nights of missed sleep, as unwise as that approach was in the long term.
It was strange to go to the habitual meeting of the Great Sect leaders, the one they had with each other before they mixed with all the other sect leaders, and bow to Nie Mingjue as if to a peer, rather than to a junior.
Stranger still to see Wen Ruohan do the same, a mocking smile on his lips as he raised his head from the greeting.
“Sect Leader Nie,” he said, and there was almost some sense of satisfaction as he said the unfamiliar words – no one had had to use them when it was Lao Nie, of course. “I bid you welcome, as the newest member to the ranks of leadership among our Great Sects.”
Nie Mingjue did not respond with words the way he had when similar sentiments had been offered by others – no Please give me guidance here, though that was understandable given what the entire cultivation world knew he believed about Wen Ruohan – and contented himself by merely jerking his head again in a nod.
“Your father was a very involved member of our little group,” Wen Ruohan continued, and was he really going to offer Nie Mingjue his condolences for Lao Nie’s death? Propriety demanded he do so, but he’d never cared much for propriety, and given his actions it would be an offense to all sensibility. “One could hardly hope to match him in his passion and enthusiasm in all that he did. I look forward to seeing you...take his place.”
His eyes flickered over Nie Mingjue from head to toe, blatant in its unspoken unspeakable implication, even as Nie Mingjue’s eyes went round with disbelief.
A moment later, it ended up being Lan Qiren’s fist that found its way to Wen Ruohan’s face.
Luckily, Wen Ruohan found it funny - laughing at how he’d managed to break Lan sect discipline, rather than taking offense - and no war was started.
Whether that would last once Lan Qiren reported the substance of the conversation back to Lao Nie, however...
-
“You know,” Lan Qiren said, staring at the ceiling and wishing it would come down on top of him. “It’s very nice that you’re all such good friends.”
His nephews both bobbed their heads in a polite nod.
“I’m sure Mingjue and Huaisang greatly appreciate it.”
Another nod.
“However, they are now sect leader and sect heir, and we must treat them with the dignity that those positions require.”
A third nod. He was starting to wonder if they’d been replaced by dolls with loose necks.
“This is why they were assigned their very own rooms in our guest quarters, rather than spending their nights in yours.”
“Nie Huaisang will be lonely if he sleeps by himself,” Lan Wangji said, stubborn as ever. “My room is better.”
“Wangji. Yesterday, you chased Huaisang up two separate hills with your sword, sat on him, made him cry, and then wouldn’t let him up until he admitted you were superior in every respect.”
Lan Wangji smiled briefly, a rare and beautiful sight that warmed the heart. “Mm. Deserved it.”
Lan Qiren flailed a little. “Wangji, do you even like him?”
“No.”
“Then why do you care where he sleeps?”
“If he sleeps badly, he will do even worse than he already does,” Lan Wangji said. “Someone might make fun of him.”
“…and what happens then?”
“Bite.”
“Wangji! We’ve discussed this, no biting people. Not even if they’re making fun of your friend!”
Lan Wangji nodded in a way that suggested he was only being agreeable so that Lan Qiren stopped insisting on silly things like Nie Huaisang getting his own bedroom instead of sleeping on the spare bed in Lan Wangji’s and not actually agreeing in the slightest.
They were still working on the biting thing.
Giving up, Lan Qiren turned his gaze to his older nephew.
Lan Xichen squirmed. “…sometimes I go to stay in his rooms instead?”
“You’re not even planning on coming up with an excuse?”
“Lying is forbidden, uncle.”
Lan Qiren pinched the bridge of his nose.
-
“For this sort of thing, you go to your eldest uncle,” Lan Qiren said flatly, and after a moment of contemplation, Lan Wangji conceded that he had a point.
After all, Lao Nie had been married several times, presumably intentionally, whereas Lan Qiren had ended up with a wife through circumstance and luck.
Lao Nie was a very good wife, though, even if for some reason Lan Wangji was required to refer to him as eldest uncle rather than calling him aunt – though that was mostly his uncle’s preference. Lao Nie thought being called auntie was hilarious.
In retrospect, though, Lao Nie’s tendency to think things were hilarious was a lot less endearing when it was aimed at him.
“Just tell him you like him,” Lao Nie suggested, as if that wasn’t the most ridiculous Nie sect style advice possible. “Tell him you want to spend more time with him.”
Lan Wangji shook his head firmly.
“How is this Wei Wuxian supposed to figure it out, then?”
He wouldn’t. Obviously. The question was how to get rid of the feelings, not how to actually let Wei Wuxian know that they existed.
“I don’t know, I find sex works really well to deal with repressed emotions associated with pining.”
Lan Wangji wanted to die.
Or possibly find and bully Nie Huaisang the way he used to when he was a kid. Not that he would, of course, he was above that, and also Nie Huaisang was really good at getting revenge and he couldn’t risk that happening where Wei Wuxian might see.
“Sex is not a valid solution in all cases,” Lan Wangji’s uncle interjected.
“Ah, Qiren, Qiren. Are you still holding Hanhan against me?”
“Yes, I am. He tried to kill you.”
“So?” Lao Nie shrugged. “That describes basically everyone I ever slept with.”
“Have you ever considered that that may be part of your problem?”
“Don’t act like I’m the only one! Look at Wangji here; the first thing he noticed about this Wei Wuxian character was his excellent fighting skills – a moonlight duel on the rooftops, how romantic –”
“You don’t know what romance is –”
Lan Wangji was just going to go back to his unrequited pining.
It couldn’t be worse than having to listen to this argument again.
-
Lan Wangji was fighting frantically, but he already knew his sword would not be sufficient.
They were going to burn the library.
All those precious books..!
His uncle had already sent Lan Xichen away with the most important ones, but Lan Wangji didn’t want to lose any of them. These books had been his friends growing up, the source of his strength and the consolation in his loneliness – their pages bore silent witness to his childish tears, the imprints of his dirty fingerprints, the good times and the bad. There were books he had thumbed through a thousand times until he knew them down to the last idiosyncratic quiver in their calligraphy and books he had not yet acquainted himself with, had only seen on the shelves and thought one day. To lose them now, old friend and future friend alike, would be to break his heart.
There was a sound behind him and he spun, already tired, exhausted, and it was Wen Xu behind him, the leader of the invading Wen sect cultivators himself. He was smiling so cruelly, holding a fire talisman aloft like a flare, knowing that Lan Wangji wouldn’t make it in time to stop him –
A hand wrapped itself around Wen Xu’s wrist from behind, freezing the motion.
Freezing not just him, but all the Wen cultivators around him, each one of their faces twisting in horror as they realized that a cultivator dressed in astere mourning white that might be mistaken for the colors of the Lan sect had managed to get through their forces to stand at their master’s side, even if his hands were empty of any weapon.
Their horror quickly turned to agony, and then nothing at all, as the reconstituted Jiwei flew through the air, battering through their swords with overwhelming force and piercing their bodies, as vicious and free as if she were alive – there was nothing that quite compared to the Nie sect’s fierce sabers when unleashed at the beck and call of their masters, a weapon against which regular spiritual weapons had difficulty holding up.
With their bodies fell their fire talismans, their flares, and suddenly Lan Wangji felt hope thudding in his chest: one man could not change the tide of war, but he could change the course of a single battle, especially if he could convince Wen Xu to order a retreat.
If Wen Xu ordered a retreat now –
The library would survive.
“Tell Hanhan that Lao Nie said ‘hello’,” Lao Nie said in Wen Xu’s ear – his face was as pale as a ghost in the fire and moonlight, his lips red as blood and his smile full of viciousness like a slash across his face –and with a single twist he snapped the bone of Wen Xu’s wrist.
-
“It really isn’t me!” Wei Wuxian protested. “For one thing, didn’t the sightings of old Sect Leader Nie start before I took up demonic cultivation?”
“I don’t think it was you that did it,” Nie Mingjue said, not for the first time. His eyes kept flickering around the room as if seeking help, and his expression, to those that did not know him well, was stormy; Wei Wuxian saw this and clearly panicked, continuing to try to explain.
To those that did know Nie Mingjue well, it was immediately obvious that he was trying very hard not to laugh.
Lan Xichen sympathized.
It wasn’t Wei Wuxian’s fault that it served their purposes for the moment to have it be thought that Lao Nie was a spectre arisen from his grave in search of personal vengeance on Wen Ruohan – it was certainly causing Wen Ruohan no end of agony, judging by the way his strategy got a lot less rational and a lot more frenzied whenever Lao Nie put in an appearance – and if he was even slightly more discreet a personality, they would have simply brought him in on the secret already.
They were planning to – Lan Wangji had insisted, looking pained on his secret beloved’s behalf (secret in the sense that Wei Wuxian didn’t know about it, not secret in the sense that everyone else in their small family knew about it) – but they hadn’t had a chance. Lao Nie had insisted on being there to make things clear, since apparently he’d accidentally-on-purpose bumped into Wei Wuxian a few times in the Cloud Recesses while masquerading as a Lan sect elder so that he could evaluate his nephew-by-proxy’s crush, and he hadn’t yet arrived.
Which led to the current situation of Wei Wuxian being earnest and Nie Mingjue attempting to send mental smoke signals to Nie Huaisang in an effort to have the latter rescue him.
To no one’s surprise, Nie Huaisang was being no help at all.
In fact, his occasional well-timed sobs of “Wei-xiong! I thought we were friends! My father’s corpse! How could you?!” were in fact making things notably worse.
“I didn’t! I really didn’t!” Wei Wuxian yowled.
Lan Xichen was not going to laugh.
He wasn’t.
-
“And who’s to say the Yiling Patriarch won’t try to take charge of the Nie sect, too..?”
“Well, for one thing, I’m actually alive,” Lao Nie said loudly, and Lan Xichen flinched at first before relaxing. He’d forgotten, somehow, that Lao Nie had been the most shameless member of the last generation; it was no surprise that he, who could be as blunt as his son when he wanted to be, would address the whispered rumors drifting around them directly and without pretense. “Wei Wuxian may be a demonic cultivator who created a conscious fierce corpse, but no one has yet suggested with any plausibility that his abilities extend to living people who were just in hiding – which is a good thing, given how many people here would fall into that categorization.”
There was an awkward silence.
Sect Leader Jin coughed. “No one is suggesting that you’re Wei Wuxian’s puppet, Lao Nie,” he said, even though someone had very clearly been suggesting exactly that and if anyone believed that they had done so within Sect Leader Jin’s home without his knowledge then Lan Xichen was worried about what else they’d be willing to believe. “We’re merely expressing concern regarding his increasingly reckless actions – and on behalf of the Wen sect, no less! Especially with him having custody of such a powerful tool as the Tiger Seal, it is a little suspicious…”
“Wait, are you suggesting that you think Wei Wuxian has been possessed?” Lao Nie said. “By Hanhan? That’s ridiculous; they’re nothing alike. Wei Wuxian attended the hunt at Phoenix Mountain and didn’t hit on me once, there’s no way Hanhan is possessing him.”
Sect Leader Jin’s eye twitched.
Lan Xichen did not smile, but it was a challenge. Truly there was no one quite like Lao Nie when he was in full swing.
“Still, if people are having that sort of nonsense float around, I think it makes perfect sense for me to go check up on him to see how he’s doing,” Lao Nie continued. “I’m a respected member of the previous generation, and no one knows Hanhan better than me. Better still, I’ll take Qiren with me; we’ll make a holiday of it – it’s the least we deserve, really, now that we’re both retired sect leaders.”
“I suppose it would be more appropriate to send someone removed from active politics,” Lan Qiren said, voice a little toneless and neutral as always. “That would allow us to avoid any unfortunate implications that other sects were seeking to utilize the bad reputation of demonic cultivation to extract the Tiger Seal for their own purposes.”
Lan Xichen’s uncle was a renowned teacher, but equally well known for his inability to read the subtle nuances in social situations – no one else could have gotten away with just saying that when everyone was painfully aware that it was the subtext of Sect Leader Jin’s actions.
Though, actually, it was possible his uncle just hadn’t realized it was, in fact, meant to be subtext.
“I think that makes perfect sense,” Lan Xichen interjected before Sect Leader Jin – or Jin Guangyao, for that matter – could say anything. His sworn brother had never entirely forgiven Lao Nie for showing up at the last possible moment to murder Wen Ruohan personally before he could claim his head himself, even though the fame he had won for being their spy had still been sufficient to get him a spot in the Jin family, and as a result he was inclined to use his clever tongue to oppose Lao Nie just because he could. “Sect Leader Jiang, Wei Wuxian is a member of your sect, and therefore you have primary charge of him. Would you be willing to take Lao Nie and my uncle with you when you go to see him to act as impartial judges?”
“But I don’t want to be a third wheel on their old people sex honeymoon!” Jiang Cheng blurted out.
There was another moment of silence, and then Lao Nie burst out in howling laughter.
Nie Mingjue followed suit only an instant behind him, and of course once Nie Mingjue was laughing then there was no hope for Lan Xichen; he’d never been able to resist Nie Mingjue’s laughter, so rare after he’d become sect leader. Within moments, the tense atmosphere Sect Leader Jin had so carefully cultivated had been utterly shattered and the entire room was sobbing with hilarity, excluding only Lan Qiren who was scowling at all of them and Lan Wangji whose laughter was entirely in the way his eyes were crinkled in the corners.
“Sect Leader Jiang,” Lan Qiren said icily as his former student cowered in front of him. “I will have you know that Lao Nie and I are not in a sexual relationship –”
“Wait, you’re not?” Sect Leader Jin blurted out, clearly despite himself, and that just set the whole room off again.
-
“Welcome to the Unclean Realm,” Lao Nie said.
“Since when do former sect leaders act to greet people at the door?” Wei Wuxian said, grinning at him: they had gotten on splendidly ever since the whole ‘did I resurrect you from the dead by accident’ question had resolved, and Lao Nie helping him out of the tough spot with the Wen sect by arranging his marriage to Lan Wangji had sealed his approval of him forever.
That was why he was arriving with the Lan sect delegation, after all, although Jiang Cheng had kicked his heels around at the entrance in order to ambush him – he wanted to ask some questions about Jiang Yanli’s upcoming wedding plans – and of course the Jin sect had gotten suspicious that they were up to something and waited as well so they were now coming in as one big group.
At least it gave Lan Xichen some time to chat with Jin Guangyao, who seemed much happier to be spending time away from the rest of his family; based on what he’d overheard of their conversation, they were scheming to get Nie Mingjue to relax a bit more and let his father temporarily take up sect leader duties again now that he and Lan Qiren were spending half the year at the Unclean Realm.
“I’m on punishment duty,” Lao Nie said, looking delighted by it.
Which, hey, seemed weird, but based on everything Lan Wangji had told him about the former sect leader Nie (and his own mysterious ‘eldest uncle’, as he’d been known while he was at the Lan sect) and his former exploits, it seemed very in character for the man. And, well, Wei Wuxian wasn’t really in any position to throw stones…
“Eldest Uncle,” Lan Xichen said, looking over. “Did you do something to irritate Uncle again?”
“I didn’t! It was something different, actually, which I’m not at liberty to disclose to you.”
Oh, now Wei Wuxian was curious, and so was everyone else – Jiang Cheng sent him a ‘you don’t have shame, why don’t you ask’ sort of look at once – and since he did not, in fact, have shame, he asked, “Are you sure? What could it possibly be that you did?”
“Oh, Xiao Nie knows what he did,” an old woman in Nie sect colors said as she passed by. “And he’s going to stand there until he admits that he was wrong.”
“I’ll be here until I collapse,” Lao Nie explained proudly, but by that point everyone had stopped caring about whatever new thing he’d done in light of the newest twist.
“Did she just call you Xiao Nie?” Jiang Cheng said, sounding betrayed.
“…yes? She’s my great-grandaunt, she can call me anything she likes?”
“It’s just wrong,” Wei Wuxian agreed. “Isn’t it just wrong?”
“It is a bit wrong,” Jin Zixuan said, looking perturbed.
“Very wrong, even,” Lan Xichen said. “I didn’t know anyone did that.”
“No one does,” Lao Nie said. “Now stop gossiping and go inside already!”
“They say married couples start to act like each other,” Wei Wuxian said to Lan Wangji, who looked amused. “There really seems to be some truth to it – do you think he’ll start reciting Lan sect rules next? Ooh, or musical cultivation?”
Finding out that Lan Qiren was apparently the musical cultivation equivalent of a mad scientist in his spare time had been the happiest moment in Wei Wuxian’s life.
“Just wait until you see what Uncle is like when he’s drunk,” Lan Wangji said, and stop. What?
That was a thing?
Wei Wuxian had to make that happen right away.

Surf Shack | Johnny Suh
Genre : angst; some mature themes
A long awaited beach vacation that unexpectedly lead you to a local surf shop owner who helps you out of your toxic relationship.
Surf Shop owner! Johnny ; cheating ? ; toxic ex bf
——————————————————————————-
“I don’t have to come on this trip if you don’t want me to y/n” your boyfriend rolled his eyes as he shoved the last suitcase into the back of his car.
You sucked in your breath and jumped into the passenger seat. You closed your eyes and imagined your feet against the warm white sand, the smell of the salty ocean tickling your nose and the seagulls flapping their wings to signal the upcoming sunset.
He was not going to ruin this for you.
You had planned this seaside trip for a month. You were swamped with work during the first vacation period where your family met up at your old hometown and sadly missed out on a nostalgic weekend away.
But not this time.
This time you managed to book the perfect Airbnb and your family were all available this time of the year and nobody, not even he could spoil this weekend.
“I don’t even get why you’re mad ? All I said was I’d prefer to catch up on the company stocks than frolick in the ocean....it was a joke y/n”
“Then why did you bring your paperwork ?” You muttered and looked out of the window as the car moved quickly out of the bustling city and onto the highway.
You heard him chuckle but didn’t bother to look in his direction. Instead you kept your eyes focused on the cars that passed by.
“Look I didn’t want to bring my work with but I had to” he said in a dead tone “This whole trip...I’m only going because your dad hates me enough...I’ll never hear the end of this if I stayed behind.”
His words were cold and you felt a lump in your throat. You couldn’t understand how at one point he was the reason for your happiness. Wonhyuk was not the same person he was when you two had first dated. He was caring and gentle. He would hate to see you cry and did everything he could to see that smile stretch across your face.
But now, two years later he couldn’t care less about how his words affected you. He had gotten promoted and his career and status made him into the pretentious bastard you see today.
He would flirt with women in front of you, knowing you wouldn’t say anything about it. He would came home at weird parts of the night and you would smell a foreign cologne grace his dress shirts but you stayed silent.
Why ?
Love. You think.
There was obviously a reason you two fell in love and that’s all you were clinging to. Like he mentioned, your dad couldn’t stand him. Your family came from this seaside town while his family came from the upperclass part of the city. He hated small talk or watching sunsets in silence. He liked to talk business he liked to talk about his achievements.
“Atleast pretend like we’re not arguing again for my dads sake ?” You sighed as he pulled into the driveway of the Airbnb lodge and switched off the engine.
“Fine” he pressed his lips together as his eyes met yours and proceeded to offload the car.
You exhaled deeply and faked a smile as you climbed the stairs to the lodge.
“Sunshine!” You heard your nickname bellow from inside the house and your dad gleam at your presence.
“Dad !” You chuckled and jumped into his arms.
“We thought you weren’t going to make it” your aunt teased from the kitchen as she tended to her kids.
“The traffic was awful but we’re here!” Wonhyuk forced a smile as he came to greet your father.
“Ah Wonhyuk I see you’re working on our vacation ?” Your father chuckled. He smiled but you could tell he wasn’t very pleased with your boyfriends choices.
“I just brought a bit of stuff to seem like I’m busy” Wonhyuk shrugged with a grin “don’t worry sir I won’t be stuck in the office.”
Your father simply nodded and returned back to your uncle on the balcony facing the ocean.
“Shit my rash guard just tore!!” You heard someone yell from one of the rooms. It definitely sounded like your favourite cousin.
“Jeno ?” You peeped into the room to find your cousin holding up his swimming gear with a fresh tear around the thigh area.
“Y/n! You’re here! Good! Can you come with me to the surf shack down on the promenade??” He asked desperately.
“Is it urgent ? You aren’t planning to surf already are you ?”
“The waves are perfect right now so yes it IS an emergency” he groaned and pulled you back to the foyer.
“Hey I’m going with Jeno to the promenade for a new rash guard are you coming with ?” You quietly asked Wonhyuk who replied with a shrug and followed the both of you out.
Jeno spoke the entire way, catching you up on what was going on in university to finally moving out of his parents place. You felt Wonhyuk keep a slight distance from the two of you, his mind clearly somewhere else.
“This is the place!” Jeno squealed and ran into the surfshack that dawned a cute straw roof.
You stepped inside greeted by the cool air from the ceiling fan and began browsing the miscellaneous items as Jeno went upstairs to view the swimwear.
Wonhyuk joined you inside the store but lingered around the entrance, pulling out his smartphone and looked seemingly bored.
“Uh..those are half price” you heard a deep voice but couldn’t find the person who matched it.
You finally felt a presence behind you and their shadow casted over your entire body which unconsciously made you swallow hard.
“I-I’m just looking thank you” you mumbled and felt the person move past you and back to the counter in the front of the store.
You let your eyes slowly gaze over to the counter to find a tall, well built brown haired boy in a Hawaiian shirt take his seat at the cash register. His dark eyes moved from the screen in front of him to yours. He studied your face, your movements, unsure of what you were doing in his shop.
“H-how much is this ?” You said abruptly mentally cursing yourself for even speaking up.
The boy’s pouty lips curled into a smile and stood up to get a better look at the product you were holding.
You watched as his barely buttoned shirt revealed a bit of his toned chest as he moved. You had never looked at another man like this let alone have your heart race like a school girl crush.
All while your boyfriend was in the same room.
“That’s $7 but I’ll let you take it for 5”
His accent and the way he lazily spoke made you feel butterflies and you had no idea why. Was this your subconscious finding a way to replace Wonhyuk because you two were currently in a debacle ?
“Hey babe what do you think of this necklace ?” You asked, finally snapping out of your daydream and turning to Wonhyuk.
“Why do you also choose such tacky jewelry y/n ? Come on the stuff I can get you in the city are 10times more classy than that” his words felt like a dagger.
You felt embarrassed. You obviously did not know the man behind the counter but you still felt embarrassed that he had to witness that.
Before you could reply Wonhyuk’s phone rang and he quickly received it and marched outside.
You felt your breaths become heavy, much like those nights when Wonhyuk would come home late smelling like another woman. You prayed that the tears won’t fall until you felt a soft but firm hand on your shoulder.
“Your boyfriend doesn’t have any taste this is actually a very unique item, you have a good eye” the handsome counter boy smiled and lifted the necklace from your hand.
You blushed slightly still embarrassed from the scenario that unfolded.
“He’s just...got a lot going on with work he doesn’t mean that” you lied. You knew he meant what he said and you knew he was trying to get a reaction out of you.
“Damn it’s really true. All the pretty girls really do have the douchiest boyfriends”
His grin got wider as you chuckled at his words.
“I actually really like it” you cleared your throat and pointed at the necklace in his hand
“How much is it again ?”
“Free off charge” He smiled and ripped off the tag, stepping behind you to place the necklace on you.
“Are you sure ? I can pay for it” you bit down on your lip as his soft fingers moved your hair out of the way and fastened the necklace on, letting his touch linger for a bit.
“It’s really okay” he reassured you and walked back to his counter. His eyes narrowed as he caught your so called boyfriend talking to a woman just outside the store. Something in him wanted to intervene and punch that bastard in the face for betraying you like this but he held back.
He turned back to you and noticed you had seen the scene outside but quickly looked away pretending like it wasn’t happening.
“My names Johnny, what’s your name ?” He quickly spoke up noticing your eyes becoming hazy.
“Uh...my name is y/n..”
“You from around here y/n ?”
“No but my dad lives about 10 minutes away though, this is kinda my hometown” you replied keeping your eyes on the floor and fighting the urge to cry.
You looked up at the second floor and noticed Jeno was ready to check out which meant it was time to snap back to the fake happiness.
“Y/n....” Johnny whispered “come see me later.”
He held your hand but you felt him place a piece of paper in your palm before greeting Jeno and ringing his order up.
Wonhyuk finally entered the store and you quickly stuffed the note in your pocket and walked out with Jeno completely ignoring Wonhyuks low chuckle after glancing at your new necklace.
——————————————————————————-
The sun began to set and the red and orange tint filled the lounge area as everyone began cleaning up after supper and heading off to their respective bedrooms to chill out and unpack.
Wonhyuk went straight to the shower which gave you a chance to finally read the note from Johnny.
‘10pm, lifeguard hut - swimwear’
Was he really expecting you to sneak out behind your boyfriends back to meet him ?
This was stupid. This was supposed to be a stress free vacation.
Just as you were about to make your decision you noticed a message pop up on Wonhyuks phone from an unknown number.
‘What time are we meeting tomorrow haha don’t make your gf too anxious now I hate being a homewrecker xo’
That familiar feeling you always had back home came flooding back. Was it someone from work ? Was is the woman he was talking to today ?
You glanced over at Johnnys note and quickly changed into your swimwear, throwing your hoodie and trackpants over and left Wonhyuk a note.
‘Visiting Aerie, she’s going through a rough spot might stay over don’t wait up’
Aerie was a friend Wonhyuk knew of that was in the area and sleeping over at her place was not something out of the ordinary especially when you visited the small town.
You decided to take a quick stroll through the night market and get a sweet treat while you killed time. The loneliness was somewhat therapeutic and the sounds of the night market were nostalgic of your childhood.
You loved every minute of it and the best of part was Wonhyuk wasn’t around to ruin the atmosphere.
You checked your phone and it was already 9:50pm so you decided to head over to the lifeguard hut. The area was quite deserted except for two couples cuddling on the beach under the dark night sky.
Slipping off your shoes you jumped into the white sand, loving the cool feeling in between your toes and made your way over to the hut.
A tall figure was posted up against the wooden frame and you noticed the bright yellow Hawaiian shirt that welcomed you earlier in your day.
“You actually showed up” his voice was velvety making the butterflies from earlier occupy your stomach once again.
“I dont usually do this...” you spoke, finally approaching his figure watching as the dim light from the hut hit his features perfectly.
“Oh so why did you ?” He smirked playfully.
You shrugged and gazed upon the dark waves hitting against the shore.
“I need a distraction”
“Yikes” Johnny winced and clutched his chest “kinda hurts I’m just a distraction but I’m glad you’re here nonetheless.”
You giggled and shook your head at his goofiness as the two of you headed to the deck of the hut.
“Are you planning a night swim ? It looks quite dangerous out there” you shivered as the dark sea made you slightly uncomfortable.
“We are going to the tidal pools! Much safer and less chance of a jellyfish sting” he winked and grabbed your hand lacing his fingers with yours.
It felt so natural being with him yet you only knew him for a very short amount of time. He took away any anxiety that built up during the day and chucked it away with ease. Being with him even in these short hours gave you a sense of freedom you had been craving deeply.
“Watch out it’s a bit slippery here” Johnny warned as he took care of you every step of the way.
“Are we even allowed to be here ?” You asked nervously as you saw it was now only the two of you.
“I come out here very often trust me it’s safe and nobody really cares unless you’re causing some sort of Ruccus” he grinned his eyes stretching along with his smile and you felt your face heat up.
You finally reached the tiny tidal pool and Johnny immediately unbottoned his shirt and jumped into the pool without any thought.
He finally surfaced and his brown locks stuck to his forehead as he gestured for you to join him.
You were a bit nervous getting down to your swimwear in front of a complete stranger. You have never thought of being with someone else or being attracted to someone else since your relationship with Wonhyuk began.
Johnny placed his hand over his eyes, letting you change comfortably without feeling embarrassed which he couldn’t understand why.
You were beautiful.
He had never felt this type of immediate attraction to someone before. He wanted you to feel like yourself which he noticed was not the case around that bastard.
You finally shimmied out of your tracksuit and submerged yourself slowly into the water, sucking in a deep breath at the cold sensation.
“It’s nice isn’t it ?” Johnny murmured as your eyes were lost in the stars above the two of you.
You felt him move closer, his warmth approaching as your eyes fixated on the constellations that formed in the night skies.
“I’ve never felt this calm in such a long time” you sighed and brought your eyes back to meet his.
“I can tell” Johnny caressed the pendant of the necklace he had given you earlier on.
“Why is it so fuckin hard to leave and move on” you groaned, throwing your head back “why am I stuck with someone who hates me, who gets to do whatever he wants and I have to deal with it.”
Johnny brought his hands to your face and made you meet his gaze again. His eyes were filled with concern and his smiled faded as he saw the pain in your eyes.
“It’s hard seeing the person you once loved turn into someone you hate but hey that’s life y/n nobody is perfect and you sure as hell need to keep searching for the right person for you. A consistent one” Johnny reassured you as he brought your trembling frame into a hug.
“I know I’m just some random guy you just met but I immediately knew you were being cheated out of a good relationship with an asshole who doesn’t deserve your patience and love.”
You couldn’t help but sob at his words. You knew you couldn’t take much more of the toxic relationship you were accustomed to and you did deserve better.
“J-Johnny...can you kiss me ?” You whispered looking up into his brown eyes and then letting your gaze fall onto his lips.
Johnny responded by pulling you close enough for you to wrap your legs around his toned back and push yourself up to meet his face.
He made the first contact by bending down to meet your lips and sighed into the soft peck. He pulled away slightly until you gave him permission to continue and the second kiss was much stronger than the first.
Johnny wrapped his arms tightly around your waist as he followed your lead in the kiss, only breaking to catch his breath and met your lips once again.
His lips were incredibly soft and he playfully nibbled on your lower lip each time you pulled away, eager to feel you against him once again. His lips eventually moved to your jaw, followed by soft kisses down to your neck and back up to your now swollen lips.
The two of you stayed just like that. In each other’s arms which felt like the best place to be, the right place to be.
In this moment.

Spellbinding (Chapter Fourteen)
Tumblr media
Summary: While dealing with a surprising new development in their relationship, Loki and (Y/N) are stuck in the middle of an explosive feud between Steve and Tony.
Pairing: Loki X Reader
Word Count: 3.7k
Warnings/Disclaimers: None
A/N: I’d call this a filler chapter but I absolutely love writing about the Avengers as a whole! I also thought we needed a little break from the plot for some team bonding before things get too crazy lol I hope that you enjoy!
Chapter Fourteen November 22nd, 2015 Avengers Tower, New York City (Previous Chapter)
“You read this book when you were how old?”
(Y/N) smiled mischievously and turned her attention back to reorganizing her closet. “I was seven. I checked it out from the library without telling my Aunt Evelyn and read it late at night; I couldn’t sleep without my nightlight on for months afterwards but I’m glad I read it, since it’s a literary classic and everything.”
Loki let out a half-laugh and turned the page of his book. “Well, if we’re ever blessed with children, I think we should wait until they’re at least twelve to introduce them to Dracula. Perhaps even fourteen.”
“Children?”
In an instant, Loki froze and it dawned on him what he’d accidentally said. (Y/N) was also frozen, her arm still extended to grab a hangar from inside the closet. “I-I…I just meant…I’d like to…” Loki cleared his unusually tight throat. “I, ah, wouldn’t mind having…you know, children. Someday. With…with you.” Dammit, I’ve made a mess of things again, Loki inwardly groaned.
They’d only been together for a little over four months and it was much, much too early in their relationship to bring about the subject of children. But after he acknowledged his love for (Y/N), it was challenging for Loki to envision a future without her in it and lately, the idea of a more permanent future with the woman he loved was all he could think about. He knew that his girlfriend liked children; back when she still worked at the New York Public Library, he’d fondly watch her helping them with their homework or reading to them and since officially becoming the Cosmic Sorceress, she’d visited the children’s ward at the nearby hospital once a week to cheer up the young patients. And despite what others might believe, Loki also liked children and the thought of being a father one day – while admittedly a little nerve-wracking – was not an unwelcome one.
Just as (Y/N), with her (Y/E/C) eyes widened in shock, opened her mouth to reply, there came the sounds of voices shouting angrily from the common room down the hall. In an instant, Loki and (Y/N) summoned their magic into the palms of their hands before sprinting out of her suite and down the hallway.
Steve and Tony stood on either sides of the common room and were fully engaged in a blazing argument by the time Loki and (Y/N) arrived. Skidding to a stop beside (Y/N), Loki’s first thought was that he’d never seen either man as angry as they were now, even during the Battle of New York.
“Because you flat-out refused to listen when I said to wait, three S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are at the hospital in critical condition!” Tony yelled.
Steve stepped closer and shouted back, “And if I hadn’t acted when I did, an entire apartment complex would’ve been demolished anyway and dozens of people would be dead! Those agents would be fine right now if you hadn’t hesitated to use your scanners!”
“You mean, if I hadn’t stopped to think the situation through?!”
“You’re acting like a civilian, Stark, not a soldier! Our job is to make the tough decisions as quickly as we can for the benefit of the whole, we don’t have the luxury of holding committees for every choice we make!”
“Bullshit, it’s better to weigh options instead of barreling in without a plan; that’s what you’re best at, though, isn’t it? If you hadn’t made the dumb-ass decision to crash that plane in ‘45, you and Carter-”
Before Tony could finish his sentence, Steve landed a punch on his jaw that sent him staggering backwards. Tony quickly surged forward to retaliate, but Loki used his magic to halt his movement while (Y/N) used hers to stop Steve. “Enough!” They dissolved their magic and with matching looks of contempt, both Steve and Tony turned and stormed away, leaving Loki and (Y/N) to gape at each other in shock.
“Yeah, that was a continuation of what happened on the Quinjet.” They turned and watched Bruce step out of the elevator with a weary expression on his face. “I’ll explain everything to you both, but can we do it in private? The rest of the team’s at each other’s throats and I don’t want all the fighting to accidentally trigger the Big Guy…”
After leading the scientist into (Y/N)’s suite and subtly lighting one of her calming lavender-scented candles, Loki sat beside his girlfriend on the sofa and listened as Bruce talked. “This arms dealer was holding an entire apartment building in Luxembourg hostage, said he’d blow the place up if his demands for more guns weren’t met. Fury sent Steve, Tony, Bucky and Clint this morning; the plan was to surround the building and find a way in before going after the guy, but he decided he didn’t want to wait any longer and turned an automatic timer on for the explosives. Cap sent the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in to clear the building and Tony said to wait for the agents to give word before ordering Bucky to take the shot, but Steve didn’t listen. Bucky took the shot, got the guy, but the explosives still went off.” Loki and (Y/N) exchanged looks of confusion, and Bruce continued. “There was a pressure timer hidden in his hand, they call it a dead man’s switch; Tony scanned and saw it at the last second, but Steve was already giving the order to Bucky.” Bruce started pacing as he ran a hand through his hair. “It’s like a civil war; Clint and Nat are taking Tony’s side, they think Steve could’ve waited a little longer, and Sam and Bucky are on Cap’s side.” He snorted in derision. “Thanksgiving dinner should be a blast this year.”
(Y/N) nodded, a saddened expression on her face, but Loki furrowed his brow. “Thanksgiving? You host a dinner of thanks on Midgard?”
“I’ll explain it to you later.” She flashed him a brief smile before returning her concerned gaze to Bruce. “Is there anything we can do?”
“You both should probably just stay out of it; they might come around faster if they see that you’re neutral in all this.” The scientist walked to the door. “I’d better go down and talk to Fury, so I’ll see you guys later.”
Once Bruce closed the door behind him, (Y/N) threw herself back against the cushions of the couch and sighed. “How could something like this have even happened? We’ve been such a strong team these past few months and now…”
“They’re both strong-willed men and stubborn in their own right, you know that. Each holds steadfast to their beliefs no matter the consequences; this is a trait of theirs I’ve both admired and admonished in all the time I’ve known them.” Loki admitted. “But Banner is correct, any attempt of ours to help may only worsen the situation for everyone.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Taking in (Y/N)’s troubled frown, Loki decided to try distracting her from their fighting teammates, laying down and resting his head in her lap so that he was staring up at her. “So, a feast of thanks sounds…quaint.”
As he’d hoped, she relaxed as she gave him a look of amusement and began running her fingers through his hair. “It’s more than that, silly. In America, it’s a day where we give thanks for our lives and the people in them. We sit around a table for dinner and let our loved ones know just what they mean to us, that we cherish and appreciate them, no matter any differences…we might…we might have…” (Y/N) trailed off, pausing a moment before gasping in excitement. “Loki, I think I may have either a brilliant plan or an insane one!”
“I know just what you have in mind, darling. Let’s go!” They both hurried to the living room closet and tugged on their coats and scarves; they had a long, long day of shopping ahead of them.
Although he’d acclimated fairly well to Midgard in the months since his arrival, one of the things Loki still utterly despised about the realm were its ‘grocery stores.’ They were crowded, lit by horrendous fluorescent lights and stocked to the brim with inedible, overpriced food; whenever he’d been asked to accompany one of his fellow Avengers on their shopping trips, he would come up with every excuse under the sun to decline their invitation. But he decided to put aside his displeasure for the benefit of his girlfriend and teammates, resigning himself to pushing the rickety metal shopping cart up and down the aisles as (Y/N) read off her hastily-written list.
Their shopping trip had gone far better than he’d imagined and in no time, they were carrying their bags into the lobby of the Avengers Tower.
“You know, we’re going to need an extra pair of hands to help us with the cooking on Thursday.” (Y/N) pointed out as they stepped into their team’s private elevator. “I’m not very good in the kitchen, as you already know, but I’ve always been able to bake pretty decent pies.”
Loki nodded. “All right, so who did you have in mind to help?”
At that moment, the elevator stopped and the doors opened to reveal the smiling face of his golden-haired brother. “Ah, there you are! The J.A.R.V.I.S. just informed me you had returned from your outing, was it productive?”
“…You could call it that.”
The tone of his girlfriend’s voice prompted Loki to glance over at her; she was looking from Thor to him, her eyebrows raised and a triumphant smile spreading across her face. Finally understanding her words, Loki’s smile morphed into a look of absolute horror. “Oh no, no, no, not him…!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Wait, you guys cooked all this? Without burning the kitchen down?”
Loki couldn’t help but give Bruce a pained look. “Believe me when I say that it was not for lack of trying, Doctor Banner.”
Since they wanted dinner to be a surprise, they’d prepared each dish in one of the kitchens used by the new S.H.I.E.L.D. organization; unfortunately, in their attempt to be secretive they were forced into cramped quarters with rather primitive kitchen appliances at their disposal. And to add to Loki’s growing list of responsibilities, he was forced to babysit the love of his life and his brother in order to prevent the dishes from being ruined by their absolute lack of culinary skills. More than once, he had to use his magic to protect the food he’d cooked from (Y/N)’s over-zealousness with the spices and at one point, he was forced to quickly talk Thor out of using his lightning to rapidly cook the turkey. Hopefully it’ll all have been worth it, Loki tiredly thought to himself.
As if in-tuned with Loki’s inner monologue, Bruce nervously adjusted the sleeves of his coat and replied, “Well, I hope this works and doesn’t just end up making everything worse.”
“You and I both, Doctor.” His eyes were drawn to the elevator as its doors opened, revealing (Y/N) and a cart filled with the feast they’d cooked, and he hurried over to meet her. “Everything’s going to plan so far, they think that it’s only the seven of us for dinner.”
With the help of Bruce, they went about setting the enormous table. “I just sent Thor to fetch Team Cap, so they should be here any minute.” Once they finished, (Y/N) removed her apron and smoothed out her skirt, her anxious expression softening a fraction as she turned to the two men. “Now we see if our brilliantly-insane plan will work.”
Loki had just enough time to lean down and press a reassuring kiss to his girlfriend’s forehead before the elevator doors once again slid open.
“Mmm, smells good in here!” Tony grinned, walking up to (Y/N) and handing her a bottle of wine. “I had Pepper ship one of my best labels over from Malibu for the occasion.”
Natasha did little to hide her amusement at his words. “You just couldn’t resist, could you? And you,” She turned to shoot Clint a glare. “If you don’t stop fidgeting, Barton, we’re going to have a problem.”
“I can’t help it, this stupid suit’s uncomfortable!” Clint grumbled; once Natasha returned her attention to the others, the archer rolled his eyes and whispered to Loki, “Damn straight jacket. (Y/N) forced you into one too, huh?”
“Yes, I-” The sight of Steve, Sam and Bucky entering the room behind Thor caused Loki’s words to die in his throat and as the others caught sight of them, he surreptitiously summoned his magic into his hands in case a fight broke out. Out of the corner of his eyes, he spotted Thor and Bruce exchanging weary looks.
Steve’s face was a mask as he stepped forward. “Stark.”
“Asshat.”
All Hel broke loose; Steve and Tony lunged towards one another, their struggling forms barely held back by Bucky and Clint. A cacophony of shouting quickly filled the room as both sides began arguing with each other, but just as Loki raised his arms to use his magic, (Y/N) calmly stepped forward and walked in between the warring groups. The shouting and struggling instantly stopped as they gawked at (Y/N), but she merely smiled warmly at them as she spoke. “Thank you all for coming to our Thanksgiving dinner, Loki and I are glad you were able to make it. Bruce mentioned that you usually don’t celebrate together, but this is my first Thanksgiving with you all and I wanted to mark the occasion with my new family…all of it.” Her words seemed to have their desired intent, as both Steve and Tony relaxed their stances and the others backed away from them. “Now, we should start eating before everything gets cold!”
Needless to say, dinner was a tense affair. Where there was usually the sounds of deafening chatter and laughter, there was quiet murmuring and stoic looks. Loki watched (Y/N) with equal amounts of admiration and sympathy as she tried her hardest to engage their teammates in conversation with one another and with each failed attempt, he could see a little more of her heart breaking. After learning the difficult truth about her parents and having lived so long without a family, (Y/N) deserved to have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with her friends. They all did, really. This has gone on long enough, Loki thought to himself as (Y/N) silently stared down at her plate; after a slight moment of hesitation, Loki got to his feet.
“I’ve done a fair amount of reading about this country’s Day of Thanks, and the custom of expressing what one is thankful for whilst surrounded by their loved ones piqued my interest. So, let’s begin.” Loki swallowed thickly, looking around the table at his teammates’ confused faces before settling on (Y/N)’s. “I’m thankful for you, darling. You came into my life at a time when I believed I could never be deserving of love and you showed me not only was I deserving, but that loving you would make me a better man. You’re the love of my life, and believe me when I say that all our lives have been blessed since meeting you.” Loki and (Y/N) shared a smile and as he turned back to address the others, he felt her take hold of his hand and squeeze. “And I know you may find this difficult to believe, but I am also thankful for all of you. When I first joined the Avengers, I was bitter and filled with resentment at the prospect of serving out my sentence on a planet I despised with people I despised even more. But after a short while, once we’d come to understand one another, you accepted me as your teammate and friend. Well, some of you more than others.” His eyes flicked to Tony, who hid his small smile behind his hand, and to Clint, who gave him a small shrug. “I value our kinship above all else and on this Day of Thanks, I implore you all to remember our bonds with one another. Severing those bonds on account of a petty disagreement is something you all will come to regret in the future; take it from me, I have firsthand experience in that particular department.” He and Thor shared a knowing look as he took a seat; although he wasn’t comfortable expressing his emotions so openly, the look of pride in his brother’s eyes had made it worth it.
The table was quiet for several moments, until Steve cleared his throat. “Well, I’m, ah…I’m thankful that after coming out of the ice to an unrecognizable world I was able to find such great friends and teammates in you all.” His azure eyes flicked hesitantly over to Tony. “We may not get along all the time or agree on everything, but that doesn’t mean we should allow ourselves to become divided.”
Tony’s face remained unchanged throughout Steve’s speech and when he got to his feet, Loki could practically hear the others’ sharp intakes of breath. The billionaire held Steve’s gaze for a heartbeat before offering him his hand over the table with his trademark smirk on his face. “Couldn’t have said it better myself, ‘Roid Rage.” The two men shook hands and the room almost instantly relaxed; Loki exchanged looks of triumph with his co-conspirators as dinner continued, satisfied that their plan had been successfully implemented.
“Dinner was delicious, by the way.”
“I’m glad you enjoyed it, darling, though I’m not sure what the others thought of it.”
“Well, they were a little too distracted to hand out compliments on food, wouldn’t you say?”
The pair had decided to spend the night catching up on their reading but instead of utilizing the library, they had made themselves comfortable in Loki’s bed with their books and plenty of blankets. Loki sat up against the headboard, his legs stretched out across the mattress and his ankles crossed, and (Y/N) was leaning against his side, her head resting comfortable in the crook of his neck and her free arm holding Loki’s around her waist. They sat in comfortable silence as they read their own books, occasionally permeating the tranquil atmosphere with light conversation.
“Um, Loki?”
“Hmm?” Loki could feel (Y/N) shifting beside him, so he tore his eyes away from his book and watched as she marked her page and set her book down on the bedside table. Setting his own book aside, Loki adjusted himself so he could see her face better. “What is it?”
(Y/N) bit her lip and played with the sleeve of her sweatshirt before answering. “We’ve been so busy planning Thanksgiving dinner and trying to get the team back together that we haven’t had a chance to talk about what you said the other day.” Loki’s brow furrowed in confusion, and the corner of (Y/N)’s mouth twitched. “About wanting to, um, have children. With me.”
“Oh.” Loki felt himself pale; he’d completely forgotten about his slip-up and being reminded of it caused panic to flare in his chest. “I-It was stupid, (Y/N), I just…we don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to, I only meant-”
His explanation was abruptly cut off by (Y/N), who had covered his mouth with her hand and was shaking with suppressed laughter. “I always love those rare moments when you’re the one to get flustered; a little line always forms in between your eyebrows.” She leaned forward and pressed a brief kiss on the spot before moving her hand from his mouth to cup his cheek. “I was surprised by what you said the other day because I didn’t realize that you’ve imagined the same future that I have.” (Y/N) shyly looked down but she reached for his free hand and intertwined their fingers together. “I may not have much experience with relationships, Loki, but I love you with all my heart and if there’s anyone I want to share that wonderful future with someday…well, it’s you.”
A grin slowly formed on Loki’s face; removing one of his hands from hers, he gently took hold of her chin and coaxed her to look at him. “Really?”
She nodded, her (Y/E/C) eyes sparkling with happiness. “Really.”
Surging forward, Loki held her face in his hands and smashed his lips against hers. (Y/N) made a sound of surprise before wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing back with equal vigor; Loki eventually found himself lying flat on his back while (Y/N) straddled his waist, one hand clutching her hip while the other traveled up and down her spine as they kissed. (Y/N) pulled her lips away from his and just as his throat made a noise of protest, she began kissing along his jawline and down his neck; needless to say, his annoyance quickly morphed to groans of satisfaction. Only when her soft lips brushed against a particularly sensitive patch of skin near his collarbone did Loki lose all restraint; he flipped them over so that (Y/N) was pressed against the mattress and after grabbing her hands and threading their fingers together, he held them over her head and hungrily attacked her eager lips with his own until an unfortunate lack of air forced them to break apart.
“I said I’d like children with you someday, Loki, not today!” (Y/N) exclaimed breathlessly, a dazed sort of smile illuminating her face as she looked up at him.
Loki let out a laugh before kissing her forehead and rolling off to lay on his back beside her; try as he might, he couldn’t keep the broad grin off his face. “Apologies, my love, but you’re entirely irresistible. If I’d known there were kisses like that in store for me, I’d have told you all that ages ago…”
Later that evening, (Y/N) was fast asleep against his chest and the sounds of her quiet snores filled the room as he stretched out on the bed in contentment. I suppose there’s only one thing left to do, Loki thought tiredly, pulling (Y/N) closer and glancing over at the bedside table that hid the engagement ring before sleep finally claimed him.
i just need some more alpha dabi content
You didn’t specify... so I’m sorry but, uh, hope this works!
Alpha! Dad! Dabi x Mom! Omega reader
Ah, yes, Finally, I can talk about Dad! Dabi.
Our traumatized villain would make one hell of a dad.
No I do not take criticism.
He would be such a great dad, and you wanna know why?
Because his dad was such a shitty dad.
He would do everything in his power to be better than his P.O.S. father (Facts are endeavor is a shitty dad).
And Dabi would fight tooth and nail to make sure this kid had a good father figure.
Like, you bet your sweet ass he is there everyday, taking your child to whatever sports or other lessons they want.
He is literally the proudest dad. No if and’s or buts.
he’s the cool dad in most situations, but he’s also the LOOK-AT-MY-SPAWN dad.
it’s a healthy mixture.
He stops villainy for this child. He’ll serve whatever sentence if they catch him.  Or he’ll move to an entirely new country.
All for you and your child- his child?
Refuses to let Endeavor meet this child.
Shoto is the child’s god father and favorite uncle
Natsuo is obviously the cool uncle who slips the kid sips of his booze
Fuyumi is the doting aunt. Periodt.
Rei is the best grandmother.
Endeavor is non- existent.
Dabi just whole-heartedly loves this child, and as an Alpha his inner alpha will literally kill  for this kid.
Dabi just gives me such dad vibes since I headcannon him as an amazing big brother, and I feel like that would just transfer over into his abilities as a dad.
He would braid your little girl’s hair.
Play trucks with your little boy.
Teach your daughter how to get away with murder play football
Fail at ballet while your son laughs at him in a pink tutu.
Dabi is an amazing dad and will not let anyone tell him how to raise his kids,
Including fucking karens.
Fuck karens man.
Unless you guys are karens. I more-less mean those entitled witches you find at like walmart. Or those who try to touch your dog even if you tell them not to. Like my dog will bite your fucking spawn, phantom hates children.
Sorry. Some repressed feelings there... It was WILD.
Anyway-
If your daughter wants to wear blue monster truck shirts, he’s buying twelve.
Son wants to wear a dress? What color does he want it? Doesn’t matter he has one of every color in the rainbow.
Dabi will fight anyone who tries to inflict gender roles on his child.
And you better believe if his child is trans or part of the LGBTQA+ community he is 10000000000% supportive dad.
He’s going to pride with his kid, decked out from head to toe, just for them.
Nothing will ever amount to the amount of love Dabi will have for this child.
