This game was such an incredible experience I loved everything about it from the art to the story to the music to just the entire thing! The narrative was super satisfying and left me in deep pain 😤👏✨ You guys did such an incredible job!!!

I was wondering if you had any songs you associated with each of the characters or music you liked to work to while working on this project? ^-^

The music I listened to changed a lot during production and a lot of the time had nothing to do with RL, and there's nothing really that stands out.

I fundamentally associate Yuma Sun's Violets to Stone with Bela, canon or otherwise. Disclaimer, the music video is explicit in more than one sense.

There were some other considerations for character themes than those that made it into the final game, and those that stands out are Neffex's Destiny for Daniela and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy for Angie. Originally, each of the LIs also had individual horror themes, but most of them made its way into the game in a more generic use. Except for Versunken for Bela and Moonlight Menschen for Cassandra, both by Myuu.

For Alcina, I would just put on Diamond City Radio :| ngl. She's butcher pete, and y'all are her willing victims. Lynda Carter

For Angie, you have to listen to 8 to 10 hours of nyan cat or taking the hobbits to isengard. This takes you into the right frame of mind. Speaking from experience, you will lose 0 braincells doing this. Promise.

This is a bracket to determine which of the many memorable NPCs from across the Professor Layton games are the greatest.

GAMES INCLUDED: Every game except LBMR. Eternal Diva characters are also not included here.

WHAT COUNTS AS AN NPC?: Anyone who doesn't have a puzzle animation. Characters excluded are Layton, Luke, Flora, Clive, Emmy, Randall, Aurora, Des, Espella, Phoenix, Maya, Katrielle, Ernest, Sherl, Hastings, and Emiliana.

WILL THERE BE NOMINATIONS?: Nope! Every NPC will be included.

WHAT ABOUT THE LAYTONMOBILE/MOLENTARY EXPRESS?: No vehicles. Not characters.

WHAT ABOUT THE PUZZLE LADS/LASSES?: I only plan on including characters that we can speak to in-game, so no Puzzle Lads or Lasses. Sorry to the people who like them 😔

WHY IS NAIYA YOUR ICON?: In my opinion, she's one of the more underrated NPCs of the series. I'll probably cycle through some of the ones I have available to me right now.

WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD I VOTE ON?: Whatever makes you happy :)

ARE ALTER EGOS SEPERATE CHARACTERS?: No. For instance, Ratman is not included because his secret identity is in the tournament.

US OR UK NAMES?: I will try to make available as many names for the NPCs as possible! Which includes their Japanese names and as many names in the localizations as I am able to obtain from the wiki and my own sources. I'll probably reliably have the English (both versions where applicable), Japanese, and French names for every character when I do the bracket rounds. The list below however is entirely in English.

His name is Edmund Finch!!

Here are some excerpts from his character bio (I won't post the full think because I don’t want to give too much away about him…)

- He is 16 but has the air of someone much older.

- he has a step-sister named Agnes

- He is around 6’3, but he tells everyone he is 6’0 to mess with them.

- He is melancholy and quiet, he doesn’t have words for the swirl of feelings inside him. Some are anger but it’s not Edmunds. He finds it hard to verbalize his emotions and even harder to discern which are his own. Often, he is left confused and irritated. Both at himself and everything else (like most teenage boys).

- He is anti-social; he doesn’t often go out and talks even less than that. His only steady form of communication with society is his friends. Even if he stays doesn’t talk much his presence is acknowledged and appreciated. (note: Edmund feels like a has litter control over his life and his voice/outlets of communication are something he CAN control so he does)

- He wears a calculator watch that is never accurately calibrated and a silver chain bracelet his sister, Agnes, got him.

- he also deals with these control issues in other parts of his life: Grades, cleaning (or not cleaning) his room/personal space, eating (again how much or how little), sleeping, smoking, etc.

- The scars are from…the accident… (he doesn’t like talking about it)

- He is scruffy in the way bullied boys get, dull eyed, he has scared knuckles from past fights. His fingers are like knotted rope, each knuckle pronounce.

- he also has never really felt emotional attraction! (well he hasn’t let himself, idk is he is on the aroace spectrum, that up for interpretation!) but when he meets Ramona, he is drawn to spending time with her. (noticeably so by everyone at school, it is very unlike him to show outword interest in others). All Edmunds edges soften when he is around her, he is finally at peace when he is around her. Akin to waking up after a long nap. Wherever she goes he can be found, like a shadow.

The Gilded Age's Broadway Divas: Mrs. Bruce (Celia Keenan-Bolger)

Despite having a largely underdeveloped Downstairs role in The Gilded Age, Mrs. Bruce runs the Russell household like a tight ship. From averting near-disastrous soup escapades, to catching escaped dogs in the dusty streets, she approaches her job with no-nonsense competence, all while totally unable to reach the high shelves.

For the first time, Celia Keenan-Bolger (45) has broken free of her child typecast cage to play a fully grown adult with adult responsibilities and it must be such a thrill for her. Those unfamiliar with Celia may not be aware of her illustrious career playing children on Broadway as a grown adult.

In 2005, Celia (26) made her Broadway debut in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as twelve-year-old Olive Ostrovsky, a precocious spelling bee contestant who should have won, dammit, and I'll die on that hill. In 2011, she (31) played thirteen-year-old Molly Aster in Peter and the Starcatcher, nominated for a Tony the same year as her brother Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies). In 2018, she (40) starred in To Kill a Mockingbird as six-to-nine-year-old Scout Finch, for which she won a Tony. This coming spring, Celia (46) will once again be a child on Broadway as she takes on the role of Jessica Lange's teenaged daughter in Mother Play. (List non-exhaustive)

#1: "Green Finch and Linnet Birds," Sweeney Todd (2002)

In one of her earliest professional roles, Celia (24) takes on sixteen-year-old Johanna Barker, the daughter of the titular Sweeney Todd, who has become Judge Turpin's ward. This is not great for her. But the role was. Too often, this particular song gets the short end of the stick. It's long, slow, and very high, yet Celia approaches it with a controlled vibrato that makes us all sigh in relief.

The Kennedy Center production featured a fantastic cast, including Mary Beth Peil as The Beggar Woman, Broadway's Leading Man Brian Stokes Mitchell as Sweeney Todd, and our very own Agnes van Rhijn, Christine Baranski as Mrs. Lovett.

#2: The Light in the Piazza - Pre-Broadway (2003)

Before Kelli O'Hara took on the role of Clara Johnson, a young woman whose mental development stunted at age twelve after being kicked by a horse, the role belonged to Celia Keenan-Bolger (25). Ultimately, when the production moved on from Chicago, the creative team decided they wanted a Clara who was a little older. Kelli, who had been playing Francesca, the sister-in-law, was unwilling to "steal" a role from someone she considered a dear friend, but either way, Celia was out, so Kelli was in with minimal damage to their friendship, which persists today.

However. Some years later, when South Pacific was auditioning their Nellie Forbush actresses, the final three came down to Kelli O'Hara (who got it), Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Victoria Clark, who won a Tony for playing Margaret, Clara's mother, in Piazza. Talk about awkward.

#3: "The I Love You Song," The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2005)

Losing out on Clara wasn't all thunderclouds for Celia (26). Shortly after, she landed a role in the off-Broadway production of Spelling Bee, and when it transferred to Broadway, she received her first Tony nomination.

In this scene, Olive sings the most heartbreaking and beautiful number in the entire show. It is just devastating. Up until this point, the show is a barrel of laughs, and then suddenly you're sobbing your eyes out over a lonely little girl in a bad home situation.

Will Celia Keenan-Bolger ever be allowed to play an adult again? How long until she is no longer able to play children? How did she get the role of Mrs. Bruce if she's only allowed to play kids? All questions we have no answers to.

Bl. Francis Page, 1602 A.D. Jesuit martyr of England. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Francis was a member of an English Protestant family of Harrow-on-the-Hill, in England. Reconciled to the Catholic faith, he was ordained in 1600 and sent from Douai, France, to England. He was arrested there two years later. While in prison, Francis entered the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits. He was martyred at Tyburn, England, and was beatified in 1929.

Bl. John Finch, 1584 A.D. Martyr of England. He was a yeoman farmer of Eccleston, Lancashire, who returned to the Church. He harbored priests and acted as a clerk and catechist. John was arrested and tried with Blessed James Bell. They were executed at Lancaster. Both were beatified in 1929.

Bl. Robert Watkinson, 1579-1602 A.D. English martyr. Born at Hemingborough, Yorkshire, he left England and studied at Douai, France, and then Rome in preparation for his ordination in 1602 in Arras, France. Sent home to work for the reconversion of England, he was arrested almost immediately and executed at Tyburn. Robert was hanged, drawn, and quartered on April 20, with Blessed Francis Page. He was beatified in 1929.

ST. ANICETUS, POPE Originally from Syria, Anicetus became Pope around 155. As Pope he invited St Polycarp, the Bishop of Smyrna, to Rome to discuss the controversy over the date of Easter. The two parted amicably, but the question remained open. Pope Anicetus died during the reign of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. April 20

ST. AGNES OF MONTEPULCIANO, VIRGIN AND DOMINICAN Born to a noble family, Agnes entered religious life when she was only nine years old. By age 15, Agnes was the superior of a new community in Viterbo. She returned to her home in Montepulciano where she founded a Dominican convent in 1306. She was canonized by Benedict XIII in 1726.
