You know how when someone is craving change, they cut their hair… ? Well I tend to harvest all my veggies and then start again with seeds, seedlings and plugs. 👩🏾‍🌾 Last. year I finally managed to successfully grow onions 🧅 from seeds to harvest. Onions are one of the veggies that took so much time and effort for me to get right. Onions take about 180-240 days until harvest. These bad boys were harvested after 247 days That’s 8 months and 3 days of water, sun, love and care ☀️ I even managed to get the *perfect* onion with 13 layers 💪🏾 I prepared some onions for curing which increases the period which they can be stored. I pickled the smaller ones - the red ones were sliced and pickled in an apple cider vinegar mixture while the brown onions I pickled using a white and red vinegar. A few weeks before pickling the onions, I prepared my beet harvest for pickling as well (see picture of half eaten pickled beets☺️). Instead of following a recipe for which spices to add, I just followed my heart 😌 Onion reviews: Me: (after taking a bite of the first onion) Spicy Daddy: These are the best onions I’ve ever cooked with. They are so tasty Aunties and Uncles who tasted the red onion ACV pickle: This is so delicious . . . . . #homegrown #freshveggies #harvest #harvesttime #fromgroundtotable #onions #brownonions #redonions #gardener #gardening #veggarden #veggiegarden #pickle #pickling #pickledonions #pickledbeets #pickledbeetroot #capetowngardens #capetownveggiegarden #harvesttime #agirlinhergarden #urbanfarming #urbanfarm #minifarm #minifarming #pollination #pollinator #pollinatorgarden (at Cape Town, Western Cape) https://www.instagram.com/meganrose_f/p/CYo2OwMquVb/?utm_medium=tumblr
