Role reversal idea: Bruce Wayne dies and comes back instead of Jason. Maybe instead of the Joker beating up Jason Shelia makes a trade for the Batman. Mostly Jason and his family have to see and hear Bruce getting hit with crowbar and blown up.

Bruce willingly trading places with Jason and enduring being beaten to death via crowbar in lieu of Robin makes a lot of sense for his character, you're so right.
