Whenever I feel my creative energies dwindling, I try my best to remember that they always find a way of coming back to me. 😌 I refer to these instances as “dry spells;” almost like writer’s block, but for your soul. While it sounds quite dreary and sad, you can always decide to shift this lowness into a period of rest + relaxation! 💆‍♂️ Use this time to allow your heart, mind, and spirit to reset themselves, taking a much-needed vacation. 🛀 Try and fill your time with simple things, ones that won’t make you feel as though you are pressuring your drive or forcing your artistry! Sleep, listen to music, drink some herbal tea, read, do some light chores, take deep breaths — engaging in small activities such as these usually aide quite heavily in the resting and restoration of my own being, getting me prepared for the times in which I’m ready to feel inspired once more! 💃 It’s never a bad thing to take the time to reset. "Once I finally felt content in being single,  that's when I found my perfect someone. The timing couldn't have been more perfect." "After I stopped looking, it just happened." "Just be happy and content with where you are. The rest will come." These things have been said to me by well-meaning people, and the theory behind these thoughts has always confused me. Although they sound sweet and comforting , underneath this logic is a large creature of discontent mascarading as contentment. What these kind of thoughts are saying is that feeling content about being single will solve my loneliness. Pursuing this kind of remedy for a disappointed heart makes contentment a magical cure for the "disease" of being single. Contentment is more like an road to get what I desire than a beautiful place of serenity. The truth is, contentment isn't the answer to being single. Being content about being single will not solve my problems. It won't erase all of my desires. It certainly won't get me a relationship in the next couple of days. The answer to being single is not about how we feel about being single. In fact, I dare say that there is no true "answer" at all. What we can just do is live our lives the best we can. Remember that even being in a relationship is not a guarantee for happiness. Even though I’ve shared my thoughts about loneliness so many times, I still feel that edge of anxiety about it. It’s still a word that has such negative connotations and try as I may, there are just some mindsets that are harder to break than others. To be honest, I just love my solitude and it made me realise just how much of a loner I am and why it’s not a weird thing to be so happy to be in your own company. If there is one thing I know for sure about myself, it’s that I am an introvert and a homebody and luckily, the two tie in pretty well together. I’ve always loved being at home, ever since I was a teenager. Which always made social occasions difficult as I didn’t love wandering around the hot streets or hanging out in a party. I was much more content to be at home reading a book. It’s still something that I love now and if you offered me dinner out or an evening at home, I know which one I’d pick. So often, that’s considering boring and unsociable. There are plenty of ways to sociable in a home environment and that way, you can also wear your really comfortable clothes to eat. Being introverted, I want to try and conserve my energy as much as possible and tend to avoid any unnecessary situations that I know will completely drain me or make me feel uncomfortable. So for me, really loud environments with a lot going on not only makes me really panicked, but it's not where I thrive. Something that I’m really good at is constantly thinking of something that I can be doing. I’ve always got a treasure trove of ideas for hobbies. I am afraid that I spend too much time daydreaming about what I’d do if I had unlimited time and if money was not a problem. Because there are so many things that I wish to do, I tend to get really upset at myself for not being able to do it all, which is silly because the point of a hobby is that there should be no pressure surrounding it. Because I’ve been so incredibly fortunate that my biggest hobby which is reading spooky stories has evolved into how I earn my living, I find it hard to strike that balance between the two as so many things that I create are very much still for fun. For a very long time, I've kept my worries deep within me and I seldom tell anybody that I felt worried about anything, no matter how big or small it was. These days, I’ve been much better at sharing my worries with the closest people around me. There is such a relief about stating your thoughts out loud, that seem to make them less frightening and takes the power away from them. Talking to people, no matter who it is, about your innermost thoughts isn’t the easiest thing to do. There is no denying it, but it certainly does help and makes things feel a lot easier on your mind. Sometimes you don’t even have to talk to someone else, you can just verbalise the things that are on your mind out loud when you’re by yourself and it can often have the same result. It’s safe to say that what’s going on in the world right now is unlike anything we’ve been through before. There has been devastating viruses in the past, granted, but this is my first experience on the world going into lockdown. We’re in completely strange waters, with zero guidance and no actual clue of what is going to occur in the near future. While I’m trying to get accustomed to the new normal throughout this horrid time, I feel like it’s essential to refrain from putting a giant amount of pressure on myself. Because life is far from "normal" right now. Someone in my life, whom I am not that close to, recently made some unpleasant chiding remarks about my passion for collecting dolls. I tried to ask her what was the difference in a man having a model railroad hobby out in the garage where he builds, adds to, and admires the train models that look so much like the real trains, and someone who takes joy in, and admires, collects, and has a doll space or room to show their doll collection. Why is one considered okay and not the other? She said “that thing you posted yesterday” (in regard to my posting one picture of my doll "Blaire" on my FB wall)... She said it half jokingly but still I said "Don’t call my doll a “thing”. I admire dolls and I find them works of art. Just seeing them brings me joy. And Lord knows, we could all use a bit more joy in this life. Do any of you all get push back from those around you as to your doll collecting? And why are some dolls such as Barbies seen as “okay” to collect, but 18 inch dolls are sometimes seen as abnormal to collect by some? Some days I’m all about the accessories, but today I just felt like I needed to be able to run around a bit with little fuss. A brightly colored pair of jumpers is always handy for these days, along with loose curls while incorporating a playful look.
