More ADT au stuff!
Lol slight repost
This is what the Warners end up looking once they're allowed to age/change. (Only change I wanna make is have Wakko and Dot just a tiny bit taller)
Now that they're able to age and are no longer toons, they can dress however they want and not revert. Whenever they did change their outfit before the whole Pinocchio ordeal, it could only be for a little while before they snapped back into the default outfits they were drawn in.
Tumblr media
HDLW!!!
For the most part, their outfits don't change, or at least not by much. Huey now wears a long sleeved polo(?) with its sleeves rolled up (because somehow that's more mature). Dewey ditched his undershirt and now has a sweater tied around his waist. Trust him, it's cool. Louie got a new hoodie, one with a zipper. That's it pretty much. And Webby changed her style a little thanks to Dot ;)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yakko was the only one who didn't experience (physical) growing pains. Poor Wakko had them the worst :(
Tumblr media
Random doodles
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lol, don't worry. They love each other (platonicly)
Tumblr media
The ducks failed to mention they were having guests over.
Say hello to the duck's older hot cousin, Max!
Tumblr media
CW : BLOOD!!!
I have this "scene" in my head where Wakko kinda throws himself in harm's way, momentarily forgetting that he doesn't have toon powers, and Louie freaks out so he has to jump in and kinda shield Wakko. Ya know, since he's the strongest kid there and he can handle that type of pain
Definitely not for shipping purposes, lol

How Friendship Hates Magic would go in my “HDLW grow up with their Duck Cousins counterparts” AU (It is recommended that you read What Ever Happened to Della Duck (link to post), The Golden Spear (link to post), and Nothing Can Stop Della Duck (link to post) first for the Webby introductions because she is in this one):
The episode starts with Dewey taking Webby to the library •  When discussing their lives the Shadow Wars (Part 1, Part 2) were brought up and Dewey told her about Lena and how she had become a shadow and he showed her the books he had gotten to research ways to bring her back •  Webby asked if she could help him and he immediately agreed because he rarely gets to spend time with kids his age
Neither of them notices that Dewey’s shadow seems to have glowing eyes on occasion
Lena follows them around, boredly narrating Dewey’s routine although clearly bothered by the fact that Webby’s there now •  She makes several vague threats of what will happen if Webby is lying about who she is and where she’s been and tries to hurt Dewey since they were practically like brother and sister before she got banished to the shadow realm, but of course neither of the younger ducks can hear her •  Important Note: Lena and Dewey are 1000000% platonic in this, they see each other more as siblings. Any jealousy Lena shows towards Webby and Violet in this is purely because she doesn’t want them taking her place as Dewey’s best friend. He was her first friend and the first person to show her that how Magica treated her was wrong so she’s a bit possessive. Same reason for why she’s possessive of Webby in the show (although I know some people view them as romantic which is why I’m making it clear that here she and Dewey are platonic)
They go to ask for the book, finding Quackfaster working there, and Lena attempts to convince herself Dewey that she’ll be fine in the shadow realm
Quackfaster says they can’t have the book since someone else has already checked it out and points them to a purple hummingbird sitting at a nearby desk
Webby, without hesitation, goes to try and introduce herself only to be stopped by the girl putting up her hand, finishing her page, and finally putting the book down to see what Webby wants
She points out that the book is written in Ancient Syriac and might be a little advanced
To which the girl responds with “So am I,” in perfect Ancient Syriac
Dewey gasps and runs over and, in Ancient Syriac says, “You speak Ancient Syriac? Me, too! Along with Conversational Akkadian.” •  Scrooge and Beakley had several old language books laying around and Dewey was barely allowed out of the manor for the first ten years of his life so he had a lot of time to pick up the languages •  Although, his speech is slightly less coherent that Webby’s is in the show
The girl confirms she knows it and pulls out some old Norse and Dewey responds in kind
Webby jumps in with, “I know some Moon Landrian!” and gets some confused looks before the other girl just nods, and stands to introduce herself to Dewey and Webby •  I don’t know if the Moon Landers have a language in the show or what it’s called so I’ve decided they do and it’s Moon Landrian
Violet instantly recognizes Dewey as Turbo Dewford Duck of McDuck Manor, trusted companion in many of Scrooge McDuck’s adventures and his great nephew to boot
Dewey instantly confirms and asks if she’s a fan before remembering Webby and introducing her as, “Webbigail Vanderquack of McDuck Manor, trusted companion of his mother Della Duck while on the moon.
”Webby tacks on “Granddaughter of the Housekeeper.” at the end
Lena is immediately suspicious and wants to just grab the book and go, and is only made more suspicious when Violet starts asking about Dewey’s experiences with the supernatural
Lena is especially not happy when they end up planning a sleepover
Beakley is glad for a quiet night in with her tea when Webby and Dewey come bouncing into the dining room to tell her all about their sleepover
She’s happy that Dewey is getting back onto the friendship horse and that both of them are making more friends outside of each other
She’s especially impressed given how Dewey’s previous sleepovers have ended in magic fights
Dewey start to get nervous and Lena hopes that he’ll reconsider and cancel the sleepover with Violet, but Webby says that those sound awesome but she’s sure it will totally be fine this time and they’ll just make sure it’s a completely normal sleepover
She then immediately asks what a normal sleepover entails leading to Dewey panicking and deciding that they need to hide anything mystical, cursed, or adventurous
Beakley assures them that they should just be themselves, and Dewey says that unlike her they need friends •  This leads to the Beakley and Launchpad subplot that I’m not going to cover since it’s essentially the same and also it’s been half an hour since I started and I’m barely five minutes into the episode
Webby and Dewey finished hiding anything strange in Dewey’s room in the attic when they hear the doorbell and rush to get it before Ducksworth because, Ghost Butler
They invite Violet in and Webby is very interested in the pie (she grew up on black licorice gum), Lena however thinks Violet is up to something
When they get to Dewey’s, very empty, room Violet tells them about Tulpas •  “Manifestations of powerful emotions–hatred, jealousy, greed. They live in a dark realm adjacent to our reality.”
She explains that it’s the best explanation she has for what happened during the Shadow War
Dewey quickly interrupts and suggests they play Baggle
Violet points out that she’s here to review the book and Webby points out that they have plenty of time for books and they should play a game or do icebreakers since it’s a sleepover
Violet agrees and instantly asks what they know about Magica DeSpell and the Shadow War
Lena takes Violet asking about Magica as proof she can’t be trusted, but Dewey suggests makeovers to change the subject
Violet points out his weird behavior when it comes to the supernatural and Dewey grabs both of their hands and says that they have sparkles which gets Webby excited enough to help pull Violet along with them for the makeovers
When they leave Lena finds Magica’s amulet in Violets bag and runs to warn Dewey
She finds the three of them doing special effects makeup •  Violet and Webby have their Rakshasa and beaten up looks from the show, Dewey has a sort of zombie thing going on (I honestly don’t know so if anyone else has any ideas for his look let me know)
Violet says she thinks her fangs are off-kilter and Dewey says it’s because he has a crooked fang from a poker brawl and he has proof before realizing he said to much
Violet asks where and Webby panics and says “definitely not in the attic” •  Unfortunately Lena starts to wonder if Webby meant to say that and is actually working with Violet because why would she share her secrets
Violet runs off towards the attic and Dewey and Webby follow with Lena protesting that it’s a trap
Webby asks if Violet is weirded out by all the magical stuff but Violet says it’s fascinating and that she thinks there’s an ectoplasmic aura coming from Dewey’s friendship bracelet
Lena sees Violet touching it and runs over to try and push her hand away but of course she just falls right through them
Dewey quickly assures her that it’s nothing and takes the bracelet off and hides it in his pocket
Violet, Webby, and Dewey decide to play Rune-Baggle and Lena decides to try to use the runes to communicate with Dewey
After Violet repeats an incantation causing the runes to glow Lena attempts to hit them across the room and is shocked to find that it works
Dewey suggests it was nothing but the runes start to move as Lena arranges them
Violet tries to read the runes but Dewey isn’t as quick to jump to that, only moving to translate when Webby asks him about certain parts
Lena is very frustrated and starts thinking that Violet and Webby are either intentionally trying to distract Dewey from the obvious “Don’t Trust Her” message or they’re just giants nerds
Violet has the three of them kneel and hold hands which only makes Lena more upset
However Lena is quickly distracted by spirits beginning to form
She grabs a sheet and tries to use that to communicate but they can’t hear her and assume that she’s an evil spirit summoned by them
Violet tries to attack but is thrown off and into her bag, knocking the amulet free while Lena tries to get Dewey to see what's happening
Violet shoots magic at Lena and reveals her for just long enough for her to call out Dewey’s name
He sees Violet with the amulet  and tackles her to demand to know where she got it
Violet explains how she found it during the Shadow War and how it sparked an interest in the supernatural
She’s asks if they’ve ever felt sheltered when there was something just out of reach and Dewey and Webby each think back to their lonely childhoods spent listening to the stories of the incredible feats that their guardians did before they were born
Lena isn’t happy that Dewey is buying Violet’s spiel but Dewey just tells her not to mess with the amulet since he’s already lost one friend to the Shadow Realm
Webby puts a hand on his shoulder in an effort to comfort and Lena puts one on the hand holding the amulet
Violet suggests that they might be able to bring Lena back using Magica’s amulet
Dewey and Webby agree to try it after a quick shared glance
The trio set up candles for the ritual and sit in the middle of them holding hands with the amulet between them
Lena tries to tell Dewey that Violet’s using him, and she should know, but the amulet starts to levitate and flies into her chest as more spirits form and take the shape of Magica, taunting her
The spirits surround the trio and Lena panics and grabs their joined hands in an attempt to warn Dewey that it’s a trap
The three are pulled into the Shadow Realm and Dewey tackles Lena into a hug when he sees her
Unfortunately Violet and Webby have to break up the reunion on account of all the Tulpas in the form of Magica drawing nearer
Dewey pulls away to try to introduce Lena to the other two but Lena interrupts and accuses them both of being spies and thieves and trying to replace her while the Tulpas surround them
Lena tells Violet and Webby to get away from Dewey only for the Tulpas to take Lena’s form and drag Dewey away from them
Lena, Violet, and Webby run after them and Lena blames Violet, saying that if she hadn’t meddled with magic Dewey would still be safe
Violet points out that the Tulpas are manifestations of great desire to which Lena says it’s Violet’s desire for magical power
Violet shoots back that it could be Lena’s desire not to be forgotten by Dewey and that the Tulpas took Lena’s form
A Tulpa attacks them and Violet says that they’re manifestations of Lena’s jealousy and want to keep Dewey with her
Lena admits that might be the case but tries to keep arguing only for Webby to interject with the fact that even if they have nothing in common they do all care about Dewey, just as he calls for help
Lena and Violet call a truce to chase after him with Webby
The Tulpas try to take him out the door and Violets says that if he leaves the manor they might never get him back
Lena says not on her watch and grabs Violet and Webby’s hands
She begins an incantation:                     “With the hands of my friend’s friends,                      We bring bitter jealousy to its ends.”
The amulet seems to glow in Lena’s chest and Violet and Webby join in and the three walk towards Dewey and the Tulpas as the Shadow Realm seems to fade into the normal world behind them
Dewey’s bracelet starts to glow in his pocket and causes the Shadow Realm to dissipate behind him as well
As the realm fades away it starts to take Lena with it
Dewey starts to tear up and Lena grabs his hand
He reaches out to Violet and Webby and the four join hands and are surrounded by a blue glow as the bracelet rises from Dewey’s pocket and circles them, creating blue smoke clouds
When the smoke dissipates Lena is standing there, back in her normal form and Dewey pulls them all into a group hug
The four return to their sleepover as Lena explains where she’s been
Dewey says that he’s got his old best friend and his new best friends, Webby says they’ve got pie •  The poor girl grew up on black licorice gum she deserves to get excited over pie. And yes, I know I’m the reason she grew up on it, shut up.
I spent nearly two hours on this Jesus Christ. So, the first post I ever made for this AU was made August 1st, 2020, so nearly three years ago. And the post I made for how The House of the Lucky Gander went (link to post) was made August 12th, 2020, so also nearly three years ago and I’ve left them on a cliffhanger for that whole time, but now I only have to get through What Ever Happened to Donald Duck before I can finally do [REDACTED] and I am very excited for both of those things so I am going to try to get there before August 12th this year so you all can finally learn what happened to Louie and Gladstone. I’d also like to do Doomsday Vault sometime since that episode would be extremely different since I left Della on the moon. I am genuinely sorry that it’s taken this long to get here, but as I’ve stated in a previous post the “how __________ would go in my HDLW grow up with their Duck Cousins counterparts AU would go” post take insanely long and a lot of energy because I watch the whole episode and pause for bullet points so that I don’t miss anything. Also, if you are someone who sent me an ask god knows how long ago, I’ve seen it, I know it’s there, I just didn’t have the energy to answer it when I got it and by the time that I did have the energy I had forgotten about them. Hopefully I’ll be able to go through and answer as many asks as I can. And if anyone wants to send me one now, feel free to but it might take me some time to get to it depending on the question.

HDLW vaccination headcanons
I've kind of been wanting to get some of my Ducktales headcanons in writing since the finale aired, and getting my COVID vaccination squared away last month inspired some thoughts about how the triplets and Webby might have handled their childhood shots, so...
First off we'll jump several years into the past, when they were all cute little toddler ducklings:
Huey: Usually in the middle in terms of how much difficulty he gives Donald. Very much refuses to go along with things at first, but at least stops putting up a fight when Donald hits on the idea of having the nurse give him a long, detailed explanation of what the shots are for and how they work – Huey doesn’t understand most of it, but it does give him the reassurance that this is a Trustworthy Grown-Up who Knows What Is Best. Even then, there’s a lot of tears and whimpering and he doesn’t stop squeezing Donald’s hand until it’s over.
Dewey: Somewhat to Donald’s surprise*, the triplet who gives him the least trouble. Shows absolutely zero fear of needles, and practically jumps at what seems to his young mind a prime opportunity to show off his bravery. Eagerly volunteers to go first, actually sits still through the procedure, and for days afterward proudly shows off the band-aid on his arm like a cool battle scar.
Louie: Was always the worst of the boys with doctors/dentists in general, but Donald had never experienced the true pinnacle of his baby’s panicky tantrums until the day when Louie learned of the mere concept of shots. Never calms down no matter how many soothing assurances Donald gives or how much ice cream or new toys he tries to bribe him with, and in the end his uncle reluctantly has to just hold him down while he screams and cries inconsolably throughout the whole ordeal.
Donald still gets them all ice cream afterwards. Louie… eventually forgives him.
Webby: Beakley had all of Webby’s doctor checkups handled in the mansion, with a discreet pediatrician whose services she paid for herself (Scrooge probably would have chipped in if she’d asked, but she was always determined to keep her family affairs to herself, not wanting to ask any more of Scrooge with all that he was going through at the time). So when the time came for her first shots, Beakley assumed that the familiar environment would help keep her little girl calm. And she was right, for the most part; Webby was a largely agreeable patient, if very squirmy and excitable (especially with meeting a new person from outside the mansion), and hadn’t been scared by Beakley’s explanation of what the doctor would need to do…riiiight up until she actually got a look at the needle.
Afterwards, the doctor remarked to Beakley (while holding an ice pack over their recently-acquired black eye) that they were used to eardrum-shattering shrieks in their line of work, but being roundhouse-kicked in the face by said shrieking toddler was definitely a new experience.
(A bit of soothing and mild scolding from Beakley later, Webby calmed down and apologized, and Take Two was much more successful.)
(Bonus Della and Donald!) *Even at that young age Dewey was the triplet who most reminded him of Della, and his sister had been an absolute nightmare when they had gotten their shots. Young Donald had been a tad more agreeable – albeit mostly out of a desire to show himself as the more mature twin – but at the end of the day Quackmore and Hortense would always end up dealing with dual tantrums as the twins’ bad luck inevitably resulted in a string of comedic mishaps.
And on to the present:
Huey: Still has a bit of a visceral fear of needles, but now fully understands the science and statistics behind vaccinations (it’s all in the JWG, of course), so whenever the boys need to get booster shots or the like, he puts on a stoic face and accepts it as an unpleasant but important necessity. Recites vaccine facts to himself under his breath to keep himself composed during the procedure.
Dewey: Nowadays views getting shots pretty much the same as he views doctor check-ups in general: just pretty unremarkable and boring. (He always kinda hopes he’ll be diagnosed with some rare disease that will result in media attention, and is mildly pouty every time he’s given a clean bill of health.) Now that it’s not a new thing for him, it’s a bit harder to get him to sit still, but he still has no problem with needles, and can settle himself down long enough for the nurse to do their work through a combination of wanting to show up Huey, and (deeper down) wanting to be a role model for Louie.
Louie: And speaking of, Louie’s stance on shots has never changed in the slightest. It is entirely for his sake that Donald tries to keep the boys’ pediatrician check-up schedule hidden, because if Louie gets an inkling that anything that could involve needles is coming up, he will pull out all the stops trying to get out of it. He doesn’t throw full-on tantrums anymore, but if all attempts at scheming his way out fail (up to and including somehow managing to tie himself to the houseboat’s mast Odysseus-style on one occasion) he will shamelessly break out the crocodile waterworks, which inevitably transitions to actual waterworks the closer Donald drags him to the doctor’s and the clearer it becomes that he’s not going to be avoiding this.
(He’ll never admit it, but Dewey briefly dropping his teasing ("And you say I'm the dramatic one!") to squeeze his shoulder and remark, with his easy, casual confidence, that he knows Louie can Dewey this, helps far more than Huey’s well-meaning lectures on vaccines' importance.)
Webby: Preteen Webby’s utter fearlessness, combined with her high pain tolerance, make shots a complete non-issue for her. Honestly looks forward to her doctor’s visits – as one of the few people from outside the mansion she got to semi-regularly interact with for her first decade of life, they’ve got a special spot in her heart (even if at the end of their appointments they always, without fail, sardonically thank her for not kicking them this time, much to her embarrassment). Usually will be so busy chattering and asking eager questions about whatever subject comes to mind that she’ll barely notice the shot being given.

[PART ONE] Huey's character development: season 1 to season 3.
with ducktales 2017 coming to a close in less than two weeks, i thought that now was best of all times to create a post of how i think huey has developed as a character throughout all three seasons. please remember, this post is just based on how I see his character development, and you're free to have your own ideas and/or not agree with all of my points!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.) learning to adjust to new environments/accepting failures: When we were first introduced to huey's character, one of the biggest take aways was that he's a very "by the book" kind of a person, and has a hard time adjusting to foreign environments or situations that he will need to go with the flow and what he already knows, rather than doing everything by the book.
This was mainly introduced in "The Terror of the Terrafirmians!" in season one, where we could literally see Huey scrambling to make sense of the situation, and at some points, spouting out B.S. to make sense of the situation in his head. While he did end up coming to terms that the Terrafirmians are in fact, very real, he still only decided to believe it once it was documented in his Junior Woodchuck Guidebook.
Progressively throughout the show, we see Huey being put in situations where he has to be able to think quick on his feet rather than anxiously try to sort out all that he knows from the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook. Because of his personality, Huey not only had a hard time adjusting to foreign environments, but it's also been shown that he has a hard time accepting set backs as well. From what we've seen, it's easy to infer that when Huey has his mind set on something, he will do nothing short of achieving that goal: And when said goal is not achieved, or is starting to look like it won't be achieved, he takes it very personally.
This is especially seen in "The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!" and "The Challenge of the Senior Junior Woodchuck!": Where in "The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks", even though Huey was definitely more qualified for the position by a significant amount, when Dewey got the position, his first instinct was to get angry instead of congratulate his brother: Granted, Dewey wasn't completely deserving of the position over Huey, and at this point, Huey was just a kid still learning how to manage his emotions, but his instictive reaction tells a lot about his character at the time. Thankfully, we see this progress with "The Challenfe of the Senior Junior Woodchuck!", where Huey is once again put in a situation where the odds were against him, considering that this time around, Violet was more qualified and prepared for the position than he was. At first, Huey does take this badly, getting super anxious that he'll have to do a challenging, dangerous course that no 11-12 year old probably should be doing, on his lonesome without even the help of the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook, which has been shown to be a source of comfort for Huey. At one point, he is only surviving through the course by creating a talking Junior Woodchuck Guidebook in his head, but even that goes south as he gets so overwhelmed and anxious to the point where he sets it on fire in his head. Eventually, noticing how far he's fallen behind Violet, and realizing how deserving she is of the title over him despite his love for everything Junior Woodchucks, he is able to come to terms with the fact that he lost, and instead of getting upset or beating himself up for it, he gracefully allows her to be announced as the winner, and shows her his full support. This is meaningful, because if this was season 1 Huey, we honestly can not say that his reaction to his loss would've been the same: He probably would've gotten a lot more upset about it than he actually did in season 3.
"Quack Pack!", despite somewhat being more of a comedic episode, also sheds light on how Huey's learned to adjust with a change in environment: He was the first character (other than Donald, who was fully aware) to pick up on the fact that they are in an alternate universe, set inside of a 1990s sitcom, and becomes increasingly anxious about it as a result, especially since everyone was pretty much oblivious of it at first. However despite this, when the family confronts Donald about the wish, while Donald does make a compelling point of how this scenario gives them a sense of normalcy and security, Huey also brings up the fact that despite the hardships they may face, adventuring is an integral part of their new found family. Even though Huey has always been pretty enthusiastic about adventuring, especially in comparison to Louie and pre-season 3 Donald, there has been times where adventuring has caused him anxiety due to being confronted with new settings or situations that he doesn't immediately know how to handle, so considering this, I think that line alone has shown the great improvement Huey has made with adjusting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.) embracing "The Duke": in the first two seasons, while we always had somewhat of an idea that huey was the triplet that inherited the infamous McDuck anger, "The Duke" wasn't something that was necessarily explored much in the first two seasons, leading people to believe that it was just for comedic plot. However, in season 3, we finally got an image of what "The Duke" actually is and represents, alongside with how Huey truly feels about this side of him.
Based on my perception of "The Split Sword of Swanstantine", Huey sees The Duke as an entire separate entity from himself rather than just how far his anger can really go, decides to completely reject this side and keep it locked away in his brain. Of course, we've had our early season moments where The Duke "slipped out", but for the most part, leading up to The Split Sword of Swanstantine, we never really got a full glimpse of what exactly the Duke is: and given his personality, it makes sense as to why Huey was rejecting this side of him instead. Not only does The Duke represent one of Huey's most vulnerable states, but knowing how far his anger can go, goes completely against the side of his personality that he does allow to shine: Being orderly, being well put together, and being the brain of his sibling trio, which being blinded by anger would all deter. Despite the strength that embracing his anger gives him, Huey obviously still sees it as a weakness, because it's the side of him he doesn't want people to see, especially those closest to him, because before the events of The Split Sword, Huey didn't exactly have the greatest control of his anger, so while nobody would want to think of it, no one knows how far he could really go if he's pissed enough.
However, thanks to the encouragement of Lena, Huey was finally able to embrace that side of him, and fully gain control over his anger which is something we don't typically see with the infamous McDuck Anger, given that the only way he could defeat Steelbeak who had an obvious advantage, was to tap into his true strength. The biggest takeaway Huey got from this situation, is that his anger shouldn't be treated as if it's a separate entity, or as if it's something to be embarassed of, but to truly embrace that side of himself, and learn how to control it, all things that he was able to accomplish by the end of "The Split Sword of Swanstantine".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.) building new relationships:
Since season one, it's been hinted that Huey does struggle a bit on the friendship aspect of things. He does have very close relationships with his brothers and Webby, but even these can be hindered by clashing personalities and differing interests. Even though it's fairly obvious that HDLW all love and support each other like family, Huey has never really exactly been shown to have a bond with someone where he shares completely similar interests: Now, this isn't really important in friendship, often times opposites attract even down to the friendship aspect, but it is nice to have someone where you can just sit and chat about similar interests, and do stuff together that you'll both enjoy.
The first time we've gotten a hint at Huey struggling with making friends was in "The Day of the Only Child!", where, if the Beagle Brothers didn't show up, Huey would've been out of luck with finding two other participants for the three-man cookout, considering that everyone else was already paired up and Louie and Dewey were already off doing their own things for the day. Also hinted in that same episode, is the fact that Huey make struggle with loneliness as well (Huey "Be horribly alone." Dewey: "For once!"), given that he's spent most if not all of his life constantly with his brothers and Donald, so even if him and his brothers did have fall outs every here and there, he could always rely on them to be there given that outside of them, he didn't rely have any other friends.
Now, this somewhat turns around in season 2, when we're introduced to Fenton, who Huey not only idolizes as Gizmoduck, but looks at like a genuine best friend and most likely, as an older brother figure. Besides Huey's admiration of Gizmoduck, it's been shown that they bond over their similar interest in science, and in general, Huey is constantly looking out for Fenton and always wanting to protect his best friend from any danger or hurt that he himself can prevent. Despite Fenton undoubtedly being Huey's closest friend, I think that it's also important to shed light on the friendships that he's made that are more in his age group.
Following the events of Astro BOYD!, we are introduced to Boyd and Huey's friendship, two characters that existed in the show prior but never had any interactions. Huey and Boyd bond over their interest in the Junior Woodchucks, something that we once again see Huey get backlash for from his fellow Woodchucks, for being too "by the book" and not just "relaxing and being a kid" (even going as far to label him as a "robot"). Even in Boyd's malfunctioning, Huey is determined to stay by his side until the end, not only because of their shared interests and the bonding they began to do at the very beginning of the episode, but also because Huey understood what it was like to be cast away and treated as less just for being different (or in Huey's words, "wired a little differently"). Even though Fenton is Huey's closest friend by a margin, I would consider Boyd's friendship with him really meaningful, at least given the circumstances of how they became friends in the first place: Two people who were cast aside, for not being what society considered the "perfect/normal kid", and instead of people working with them, they were just cast aside easily. Considering how fast Huey probably had to grow up given the circumstances of living with Donald who, despite being an amazing father figure, dealt with poverty pretty often, it's no wonder why he's very mature for his age and very "by the book", but it's also no wonder why kids who probably didn't have to grow up with those circumstances, would easily be turned off. Louie and Dewey are a lot more understanding considering they grew up in the same setting, but even they dealt with it differently, often leading to their personalities clashing, which is even lampshaded in this episode as another insecurity of Huey's when building relationships ("Are you sure you want me to continue? My brothers are usually *begging* me to stop.).
We're also introduced to another friendship at the very beginning of season three, with Violet. Even though at the beginning, things were a bit rocky considering how anxious Huey was getting from the Senior Woodchuck competition, and his determination to beat Violet, even to the point of leaving him behind when she probably needed him the most, by the end of the episode, we see both Violet and Huey not only reconcile, but start to actually bond. During this high stress situation, Violet was a great source of relief for Huey, using her own experiences of failure to inspire Huey to not give up, and that even if he does lose (which he did) in this specific situation, there'll be more opportunities because he is great when it comes to the Junior Woodchucks. Even when Violet wins, instead of being bitter which would definitely be expected considering that Huey is a child and how much he was anticipating winning, he is able to put his grievances aside and congratulate her because she helped him greatly during a point of weakness. Even if Violet and Huey's friendship didn't end up as closeknit as his and Boyd's, or as prominent as his and Fenton's, I think this was still a meaningful connection for him as Violet was great balance for the anxiety that he was feeling at the time, and despite him leaving her behind, she beared no ill will towards him.
This is only the first part, where I examined what I felt were the key component to his character development over the last three seasons, and the next post will focus on other aspects that weren't as focused on during the series!

Note
for a writing snippet, i'd love to see some Gosalyn bonding with the rest of gang (HDLW and maybe Violet and Lena too, if you feel like it) ! :D -notponytailsorcottontails
Here it is!! I've never written Gosalyn before, so I hope it's okay! <3
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“We almost died today, and now we’re playing board games?” Despite her words, Gosalyn’s voice didn’t sound baffled or confused. It was more of a slightly amused acknowledgment of how weird their lives were. Across the table, Louie snorted.
“Yeah, welcome to my world,” he said, picking up the green game piece as soon as Huey opened the box.
“It’s always like this, huh?” Gosalyn cracked a smile as Dewey threw her the purple game piece. She gave him a wry look, to which he just grinned and winked. She rolled her eyes.
“Not always,” Webby chimed in, helping Huey set up the game. “Sometimes we watch a movie.”
Gosalyn tossed her game piece up in the air and caught it, chuckling a little as Louie sighed deeply. She hadn’t been a part of their little group for long, but it was easy to tell that Louie wasn’t really the type to chase adventures. Which she understood, of course, because more often than not, the adventures ended up chasing him. And as he’d loudly proclaimed several times that afternoon as they ran from vaguely sentient slime monsters, Louie hated running.
But he’d done it, and so had everyone else, with Dewey cheering loudly and giggling alongside an excited Webby, who was already talking about adding more to her journal when they got home. Lena had been using her magic rapid-fire, only succeeding in breaking the slime monsters into smaller versions of themselves, and Huey had been screeching something or other from the little book he kept in his hat. Gosalyn remembered laughing, adrenaline pumping through her veins as she realized that there was no where else she’d rather be.
“Literally anything would be relaxing in comparison to almost dying,” Louie grumbled, and Huey absentmindedly pat his shoulder.
“We never actually die, though,” Dewey pointed out, poking Louie playfully in the beak. Gosalyn barely held back her laugh at the scowl on his face.
“This may sound weird to you,” Louie said slowly, pushing Dewey’s hand away from his face, “but my standards are a little higher than that.”
“I’d have to agree with him there,” Gosalyn said, letting her chin drop into her hand as she grinned lazily at Dewey. “Staying alive seems like a reasonable goal to have.”
“Thanks,” Louie said flatly, putting his piece on the game board as Huey and Webby finally finished setting it up. “Your support means the world to me.”
“Glad I could help,” Gosalyn shot back, smiling as Louie rolled his eyes good-naturedly.
The rest of them put their game pieces on the board, bickering and teasing each other the whole time, Huey having to take a short walk when Dewey launched his piece across the room. Eventually, though, they all got settled, and Huey started reading through the rules.
“We need to have partners for this one,” Huey said, tossing the paper back into the empty box. “Who wants to—”
“I’m on Webby’s team,” Lena said immediately, grinning a sideways smile as Webby giggled.
“Okay, so—”
“How ‘bout me and you?” Gosalyn suggested, shooting a half-smile in Louie’s direction. He raised an eyebrow. “We can be the ‘staying alive’ club.”
Louie let out what seemed like a startled laugh, but he shrugged and nodded.
“Let’s hope that doesn’t age too badly,” Louie said sarcastically, and Gosalyn had to agree.
“This is actually unfair,” Dewey said, but he sounded more amused than anything. “You two together are going to win in like three minutes flat.”
“Scared of a challenge?” she asked him, grinning sharply, and Dewey let out a dramatized offended gasp.
“Me?” Dewey said incredulously. “Never!”
“Prove it!”
The six of them played the game multiple times over the next few hours, and Louie and Gosalyn won each time.
Unsurprisingly, they were banned from being on a team together ever again.

👀i am looking respectfully
KSFGHDSKF i love that thank you
“Buckle up, everyone!!” Dewey hollered as he carried an armful of pillows into the TV room. “You’re in for a night of intense research and fights to the death, if Webby has anything to say about it!!”
“I do,” Webby added, grinning cheekily as she popped up right behind Dewey and he yelped in surprise. “We can keep it tame tonight, if you want. Maybe just a game of hacky sack, if you’re scared.”
Dewey huffed indignantly and dropped the pillows onto the couch. “I am not!”
“Shut up, Dewford,” Louie warned as he walked into the room, his arms full of snacks. He dropped them unceremoniously next to the pillows and pointed a finger at his brother threateningly. “I actually value my life, thank you very much. Don’t sign us up for anything we might not come back from.”
“Oh, don’t be silly!” Webby said, waving a hand dismissively. “I’ll go easy on you.”
“That’s what you say every time,” Louie grumbled in response. “And somehow I always end up with bruises and injuries.”
This was for day 2 of HDLW Sibling Week, for which I intended to do a short connected thing each day. Obviously that... did not work out so well. It was the week school started and I was working on the cerealronpa script which was not a good combination. But it was fun while it lasted, and that’s what counts!
The plot of the overall HDLW Week story was something about the kids, aged up a little, discovering some sort of conspiracy with a magical artifact and acting as vigilaties of sorts? I don’t entirely remember. But I think this one was just about the kiddos investigating and having fun!
send 👀 and I’ll post a snippet of a wip I never finished in 2020!

Della Duck: The Mary Sue of DuckTales?
Della isn’t the best mom. She isn’t the best person. She’s impulsive, selfish, hot tempered, stubborn, and childish in more ways than one. She’s also stubborn, impulsive, observant, loving, and compassionate. She’s a three dimensional character. Her flaws are extensions of her strengths.
Fan critique is warranted. She made bad decisions that directly effected her family dynamics. She’s aware of some of them, and it’s likely she’ll discover more. Della has a lot of self-doubt and regret. She knows she made a mistake. As fans we can address and discuss her flaws. We can hold her to a standard, but the standard should cross over the board to most main characters.
Della is a Mary Sue? That’s a sexist, derogatory term. There’s Gary Stu, but that’s rarely used in context towards male character. It’d be acceptable for Mary Sue/Gary Stu in this instance when referring to all characters, but in the cases this claim has appeared, it doesn’t imply any other character except for Della.
Scrooge is an asshole. He’s a great character, but he isn’t a “good” person. He’s an asshole. It makes sense. He was never written or created as a “good” person. He’s Ebenezer Scrooge without the character development, or that was his original creation. Scrooge developed in Barks, Rosa, and other writers/artists as a very complex character. We appreciate that about him. It makes for an entertaining and sometimes a relatable character.
What’s the problem with Della? Della isn’t an asshole. She’s obnoxious and oblivious, but she isn’t an asshole. She isn’t grumpy or mean or a penny pincher. She’s outwardly kind and affectionate. You’d say she’s closer to traditional “good” than Scrooge. But she’s a woman. Scrooge is a man.
Fandom allows Scrooge to be a complex character without ridicule because he’s a man, male character. Della isn’t afforded the same luxury. This is absolutely ridiculous not only for the blatant sexism but the fact that Scrooge is a direct cause for Della’s current personality and behavior.
Until told otherwise, it’s strongly implied Scrooge raised Donald and Della since they were HDLW’s age. He raised them. For all reasonable purposes, they are his children, and while pure conjecture, Scrooge probably projected a lot of himself and his behavior onto Della, rather than Donald. Scrooge encouraged Della’s actions and behavior. I highly doubt Scrooge tried to rein Della in as long as she was proving herself capable and trustworthy. The construction of The Spear of Selene suggests Scrooge spoiled and possibly favored Della due to their common ground.
The thing about Scrooge is accountability. He refuses to apologize. Someone may make a claim he has in past episodes, but they were gestures, not spoken words. He never apologized to Donald, the boys, or Webby. The show frames it in a way that the Scrooge needs the family more than the family needs him, which is why the family has to forgive Scrooge (though he hasn’t apologized or owned up to his mistakes) and return to the mansion.
But Della? Della owns up to her mistakes. Della meets her children and immediately apologizes to them after they reunite. She takes responsibility for her actions and tries to be better for them. Does she make mistakes? Absolutely. The shows wants us to see that Della is having a hard time at being the mom the kids need her to be, and they’re addressing her errors. She is trying to do good. She’s trying to do right by them.
Now, Scrooge? Hmm...hard to say. Not so much, yet. I trust the show to address Scrooge’s behavior down the line. Because he’s an asshole. Not so much to his family, but in general, he is.
You’re going to measure up Della as a Mary Sue, which I don’t think you’re using that term correctly in the first place (not only is it super sexist), but you’re failing (or refusing) to recognize Scrooge is just as much as a Gary Stu if not more since he isn’t put in a position to own up to his errors.

Why did Magica create a “teenage"spy from her shadow?
Tumblr media
The plan made sense during the events of Season 1: Have Lena, who looks and acts 13, befriend the preteen kids at McDuck Manor, and get Scrooge’s dime during a play date or sleepover.
But Lena’s been 13-ish for 15 years. As a shadow, she didn’t age. So why would Magica create a 13-ish spy years before Webby and the boys existed?
Wouldn’t it have made more sense for Magica to create a spy who looked about 20 to get to Scrooge through Donald and Della? What about modelling a shadow spy after Goldie to trick Scrooge?
Was the original plan to appeal to Della’s nurturing side and get her to want to mentor Lena and look after her? Or did Magica hope Scrooge would want to take in this poor street orphan?
If either of those scenarios were the case, why didn’t Lena show up in Scrooge’s life sooner? Did Magica already know she’d have to wait 15 years for an eclipse?
Magica still couldn’t have known about HDLW at the time of Lena’s creation (unless she can predict the future, but then she should have been able to predict losing to a bunch of kids).
Maybe her original plan was that when the eclipse rolled around, Della would be in her mid-thirties and old enough to have motherly feelings for a girl who looks 13, and Lena would be able to get to Scrooge through her. But after 15 years, Della was gone, and a preteen girl lived in the mansion instead.
The plans Magica described in Season 1 couldn’t have been the original plan she had when she created Lena, right?

OK Ok ok... This is my Ducktales OC. And his momma <3
I was with this guy since the chapter “The great Dime Chase!” primarly because of the fact of Scrooge spending money on magical defense so...
Character info:
Name: Edgar André Peckard.
Age: 15 years old.
Specie: Canadian Goose.
Mom’s from Quebec and Dad from Ontario.
Even if he has full canadian parents he was born in the USA in Duckburg.
Both pappa and momma are Canadias Gooses.
Appearence:
Hes a tiny goose compared with other ones. He didn’t grew up a lot.
He has black-gray-and-light brown feathers and his hair is a bunch of long and black (with a few intruders of brown and gray) feathers.
His hair is always hiding his right eye.
He has dark gray beak and feet/legs.
Tends to wear a gray light blue tanktop with a brown jacket that has a little hoddie in a grey tone.
Has a bracelet with spikes in hs right foot.
Always carring a yellow medallion in his neck.
One of his eyes is really light gray.
Other things
Stills being a student.
One of his eyes is blind. Never ask him why, he changes the story. ALWAYS.
Likes witchcraft.
In fact, HE’S a wizard, like his momma.
His momma, Rachel, is one of Scrooge’s employees. She is a witch that keeps the magic shields and stuff to protect the Money Bin.
His father, William, works as a public accountant. Pappa is a normal Canadian Goose.
His fave color is Yellow.
Character, quirks, relationships (etc.):
Extroverted but creepy. People tend to ignore him primarly cause he says lots of things without thinking and most of them are things that someone would think are for an actual scary movie.
Never wanted to be a social awkward, but he is.
Cunning af.
Overprotective with his friends.
Edgy teenager.
Maybe he’s edgy but he’s actually pretty happy all the freaking time.
He knows how to play the flute.
Thinks HDLW are his sons and daughter, but tends to use Dewey as a guinea pig for his Magic Tricks and stuff.
Loves his momma and his momma’s friends.
Can’t hang out with Lena hates her cause he knows what she is but doesn’t know her plans for some reason.
He has the Goose Rage.
Helps momma with Tech stuff.
Really would like to go to adventures and stuff but he always stays to help his momma with the witchcraft stuff in the Money Bin.
Likes anime.
Aaaand that’s all...

How The Golden Spear would go in my “HDLW grow up with their Duck Cousins counterparts” AU (This is Part 2 of Webby’s introduction Part 1 is Whatever Happened to Della Duck which you can find right here):
It opens with Della bringing gold back to the ship where Webby is watching a news report that they managed to tune into while Penumbra watches with suspicion.
Della is exhausted from spending all her time trying to fix the ship so she can get her and Webby back home.
Meanwhile on Earth, Donald is trying to get some much needed relaxation time only to be interrupted by Dewey who wants to know if he can use his old VCR to watch a zombie movie.
Which of course raises the dead so they have to right off zombies causing Donald to molt more.
Lunaris attempts to persuade Della to stay in Tranquility, saying that it would be perfect to work on her ship but she still isn’t convinced.
They end up by the statue of Lunaris and Penumbra and Lunaris tells Della about how the two of them defended the Planet Moon “Which is technically not a planet so ‘Moon Moon?’” from the Moon Mites.
After Penumbra shows up and they talk for a bit Della says she has to get back to fixing the Spear with Webby and as she walks away Penumbra tries to blast her only to be stopped by Lunaris.
Lunaris talks about his father, General Meridian, and how he was afraid of the earth and drove them into hiding, then points how neither Della nor the child she came there with look like a threat.
Lunaris orders Penumbra to let Della and the child stay with her and then leaves before Penumbra can argue.
After Donald and Dewey defeat the zombies he moves his hammock to the house boat.
As soon as he gets comfortable Storkules  and Zeus’ family argument makes it’s way to Duckberg.
Over on the Moon, Della and Webby have arrived at Penumbra’s place much to the Moonlander’s dismay.
Webby is excitedly bouncing all over the place and asking questions about everything while Della tries to get her to calm down and apologizes while thanking Penumbra for offering to let them stay with her.
Della, sensing Penumbra’s annoyance, tells Webby that they ought to get back to working on the Spear of Selene and the two of them leave with their bag of gold.
As the two of them start trying to hoist the tip of the rocket to the top a few Moonlanders appear and thank Della for saving them from the mites and call her a hero.
Della tells them that she’s just a mom trying to get her and Webby home to see their family.
The Moonlanders offer to help them with the Spear since she helped the with the mites.
As she repairs the ship Della tells the Moonlanders stories about earth and her adventures with Webby popping in to tell her favorite parts.
Penumbra tries to prove the Moon is better but when Webby makes a comment about the Moon orbiting the Earth Penumbra blasts at the ladder.
When a Moonlander asks why Della loves earth so much she starts talking about her family and different earth-things drawing more Moonlanders over.
Meanwhile Penumbra hears yelling and runs back to Tranquility, assuming that Della and Webby had sprung their trap.
Only to find Della talking about the gargantuan Glided Man.
Webby excitedly interrupts to talk about how Della single-handedly defeated it.
Penumbra almost throws her spear at Della in her anger but Lunaris stops her and starts talking about how fascinating the rocket is, and how all Della would need to do is flip a little switch and it launch the rocket into space.
After Dewey tries to fight Zeus Donald has to step in and fight Zeus himself.
He tried to set up his hammock in Scrooges closet only for Scrooge to burst in and demand to know what a magical goat that Donald had failed to notice is doing there.
The goat opens a portal and Scrooge and Donald are sucked in.
Penumbra, getting increasingly aggravated by the sounds of Della and Webby fixing their rocket, goes out to confront them with her spear.
Della announces that it’s working and her and Webby are finally getting home to their family.
All the Moonlanders cheer for earth and Penumbra says “If you all think earth is so great, why don’t you just go already?!” and on of the Moonlanders asks Della if they can all please go with her.
Della says that she wishes she could but their isn’t enough room.
When the crowd expresses disappointment Penumbra sees an opportunity and says that surely the great Della Duck could get them all to earth if she really wanted to.
The Moonlanders believe Penumbra and ask if Della is embarrassed by them and Della quickly says that she isn’t and she does really wish she could take them all but it isn’t possible.
Penumbra says that she thought nothing could stop the amazing Della Duck.
That’s when Webby says that if her and her Aunt Della could learn rocket science and rebuild their ship and there’s no reason they shouldn’t be able to find away to fit them all in the Spear and the Moonlanders rejoice.
Penumbra breaks her spear out of anger.
Scrooge and Donald are spit out of the portal and Donald is not looking to good.
Just then Dewey bursts in talking a mile a minute.
Donald drags his hammock out tiredly leaving a trail of molted feathers behind.
Della is going to find Penumbra to return her newly fixed spear when she overhears Penumbra ranting to Lunaris about how the Earthers are brain washing every one with lies and magical bracelets and are gonna get them killed.
She clears her throat, apologizes for startling Penumbra, and pretends like she didn’t hear anything.
Della returns Penumbra’s spear and then shows her and Lunaris her drawing of Huey, Dewey, and Louie/Jet, Turbo, and Rebel, and says that they’re her sons, and thanks to Penumbra and Lunaris she’s gonna have a chance to be a mom to them and Webby is gonna have a chance to meet her grandmother, who isn’t in this drawing.
She promises to Penumbra that she’ll protect her people just like she protected Webby all these years.
Dewey and Scrooge surprise Donald with a month long cruise so he can get some time to relax.
Penumbra starts to formulate a plan to keep Della and Webby from taking her people to earth, even if they aren’t evil.
She drags the two of them to the Spear and flicks the emergency launch switch.
She wakes them up and tells them that she doesn’t know what happened and Della jumps in to try and stop it.
Penumbra helps Webby in and tells them to go back to their family.
Webby says that they can’t leave the others behind and Lunaris, appearing out of seemingly nowhere, says that they can build more and tells Della to give him the plans for the ship.
Della grabs the plans, looks at Webby, then at earth through the window, then at Lunaris.
She quickly moves Webby into the pilots chair, straps her in, and tells her that the ship will take her to just outside of McDuck Manor and once it lands she needs to get the mansion and ask for either Beakley, Donald, or Scrooge, tells Webby that she loves her, and then climbs out of the Spear.
Webby tries to get out of the straps saying the she won’t go without Della but the door is already closed and the countdown in nearing completion.
Lunaris and Penumbra are too shocked to move until the rocket has already launched.
As they watch the ship go Della and Penumbra hear a laser blast and turn to find Lunaris grinning with a wound and holding his gun.
He grabs Della and pins her to the ground with her arms behind her back and his laser gun to her head just as the other Moonlanders come out to see what’s happened.
Lunaris tells everyone that Della and Webby betrayed them and used them to rebuild their ship and then when the time was right they attacked him while Della struggled to get out from under him and tried to tell them he was lying.
Lunaris ignores her and tells the others that she can her companion were the first wave of a bigger attack and she lied to them so that she could get back to earth and tell the Earthers of the Moons weaknesses.
Lunaris says that they can use the plans that he wrestled away from the traitors before the small one was able to flee to build a fleet of ships to invade them first talking over Della as she tries to explain the truth.
Penumbra finally overcomes her shock and realizes what’s happening.
Later she asks Lunaris why he brought the Earthers and their ship to Tranquility and got the others on their side.
Lunaris says that they others are not warriors like they are, that they needed a reason to fight, so he gave them one: betrayal.
On Earth, while Donald is waiting for the bus to take him to his cruise he sees something familiar fall from the sky.
He runs after it and finds the Spear, he runs to it calling out his sisters name.
But when he reaches the door he finds a girl, about Dewey’s age, wearing his twins jacket and odd gold clothes in the pilots chair instead.
The girl appears to be struggling to move, like she can’t left her limbs.
Donald pulls the door open and the girl tries to move to look at him.
He jumps in and calls out his sisters name again, hoping she pop somewhere.
Finally the girl says something though it sounds like it takes a fair bit of effort, “You know my Aunt Della?”
He whips around to look at the girl and she says something else before promptly passing out, “Hi, I’m Webby.”
Part 2 of the Webby intro, is complete! Sorry this took so long to do! I haven’t had much motivation for anything. The next episode posts I am planning are Nothing Can Stop Della Duck and Whatever Happened to Donald Duck so keep an eye out for them. As always, if anyone has any questions about this AU then don’t be afraid to ask! I love answering them!

Part 1 of my HDL birthday fic. The other part will be out in the next few days
Birthday Plans
D: Any fun plans for today?
It was seven in the morning and Dewey was sitting in the cockpit of the Sunchaser on his birthday. Della was bringing coffee but Dewey was still a little tired. There was a different kind of tiredness that had settled in his bones as he thought about spending his birthday away from his brothers. He didn’t expect either of them to be awake but he thought he would shoot them a text before he started flying.
H: I wish. I have a bunch of tests tomorrow so I have to study all day today. But tomorrow after my tests, my friends and I are going out for belated birthday drinks.
D: Tell the bartender it’s your birthday and get free belated birthday drinks
H: I’m not going to lie, it’s against the JWG
D: You’re 24. You’re not a Junior Woodchuck anymore.
H: You’re right.
H: I’m a Senior Woodchuck.
L: Do you guys ever sleep???
D: It’s 7 AM
L: Yeah, it’s 7 AM, you should be asleep
D: What are your plans today, Lou?
L: Boyd is visiting after I get off work and we’re going to spend the rest of the day together
H: Aww, adorable.
D: Sappy
L: Anyway, what are you doing today, Dewdrop?
D: Doing a flight with mom and then cake with some of the fam later
H: Have fun, eat a slice of cake for me.
D: Will do
L: Your present should be in the mail. Yours too, Hue.
D: You didn’t have to get me anything
L: Yeah, but I feel bad that we can’t be together today. It feels weird.
D: It does feel weird
H: I miss you guys
Dewey set down his phone, blinking back tears. He hadn’t wanted to get emotional this morning but he was having a hard time holding it together if Huey was throwing around, “I miss you,” and Louie was commenting on how weird things were.
To avoid addressing his emotions Dewey found a gif of a dancing baby that said happy birthday. That was enough to start a gif chain that moved them away from heavy emotions.
“You okay, sweetheart?” Della asked, offering her son a cup of coffee, and taking in his bummed-out expression.
“Yeah, just texting Huey and Louie.”
Della nodded somberly, “It’s hard being apart from them, isn’t it?”
Dewey was trying his hardest not to get choked up.
“I shouldn’t be so dramatic. They’re just a few hours away, and we’re meeting up in a couple of weeks after Huey’s done with finals.”
“But today’s your birthday. It’s okay if you miss them extra hard today. Your feelings are valid.”
“It’s our first birthday apart,” Dewey whispered.
“I know how hard that can be,” Dell said, wrapping an arm around his shoulders.
“Mom? Does it get easier?”
“A little. But the time apart makes the time together so much better. And you get to do one barrel roll in the Sunchaser on your birthday.”
“I should get to do 24 barrel rolls because it’s my 24th birthday.”
“Don’t push it, buddy.”
Huey had a coffee and an English muffin (toasted, lightly buttered) and was one flashcard away from a breakdown. He was exhausted, which was not the way you wanted to spend your 24th Birthday.
Everything was always happening all at once. Huey probably wouldn’t have remembered it was his birthday until Dewey had texted him earlier. He’d fussed about lying to an imaginary bartender but had had no qualms lying to his brothers. There were no friends taking him out for belated birthday drinks. No one here knew him intimately enough to know his birthday.
Texts would roll in all day from the family and friends who he desperately missed, wishing him a pleasant day and asking him about his fabricated plans. He was almost in tears every time he furthered this delusion that he had people here, that he was not just a loser alone on his birthday. How pathetic would that be? When Dewey was with their family and Louie was with his boyfriend. Huey’s chest ached about the fact he was the only one alone.
Fenton was the only one who called him out on his lie.
F: What’re you doing for your birthday, Huey?
H: I have to study today but I’m getting drinks with some friends tomorrow.
F: Oh, nice.
F: So you finally made some friends over there?
Huey wished that he hadn’t ranted to his mentor about how incredibly difficult it was to find time to make friends.
H: ...No
F: So who are you drinking with?
H: Nobody
F: Drinking alone, then? Maybe call a car to get home.
H: I’m not drinking alone
F: So you just lied to me?
H: Not just you?
Fenton stopped responding for a few minutes and Huey felt devastated. He hadn’t wanted to lie to his loved ones but he hadn’t wanted them to pity him either. And now he had to deal with guilt on top of all the exhaustion.
F: So you’re all alone on your birthday?
H: I guess I am
F: I see why you wouldn’t want to talk about that
F: But you didn’t need to lie
H: It’s too late now, I already told everyone that I’d be drinking with friends tomorrow.
F: Well, I don’t have any plans tomorrow. Team Science reunion?
H: Team Science reunion
Huey felt a bit better about his birthday, grateful that Fenton had reached out. He still missed his brothers though. He decided to text them both one more time today before he went back to studying, though he decided to text them separately this time.
H: Have a safe flight, Dewey.
D: Thanks, bro. Good luck studying
H: Thanks
He decided to text Louie later since he’d been tired and he wasn’t fun to talk to when he was tired. And then, swamped with studying, he promptly forgot until dinner.
H: Hey! I hope you had a good day at work and that you and Boyd have fun today. A responsible amount of fun.
L: Lol I’ll tell Boyd that the arson is canceled
H: No arson, but you could still probably make S’mores. Boyd’s really good at that.
L: I get it, you’re both Senior Woodchucks. Hey, do something nice for yourself today, okay? Don’t just study yourself to death.
H: ...Okay. Thanks, Lou
“Who’re you texting?” Boyd asked, already making himself comfortable on Louie’s couch.
“Huey. He told us to have fun. And to not commit arson.”
“I wasn’t gonna commit arson on purpose, were you going to commit arson?”
“Well, it’s my birthday, and you did bring cupcakes and candles.”
“Mm, those are more fun if you blow them out instead of letting them burn. How’s Huey doing anyway? Fenton just texted me about him.”
“I’m afraid he’s overworking himself,” Louie admitted, “But that’s just Huey’s nature. I'm not especially surprised.”
"That's the vibe I got too. Fenton asked me if I wanted to go get drinks with him and Huey tomorrow so that he doesn't have to be alone."
“Whoa,” Louie said, eyes widening.
“What?”
“Huey must’ve lied about having plans with his school friends tomorrow.”
“Aw. Well, you would’ve done the same thing. Huey probably just didn’t want you guys to worry. A classic Louie move.”
Louie frowned deeply.
"Hey, babe, do you ever get the sense you're doing the wrong thing?"
"Elaborate?"
"Well, I took this internship, to you know, pull myself up by my bootstraps. Be my own person."
"I'm really proud of you for that."
"Yeah, well… Being my own person sucks. I've always been one in a set of three. And it feels like recently someone ripped the "Do not separate" sticker off and I hate it."
"Hm… Do you want to come and get drinks with me tomorrow?"
"Getting wasted won't help. I've tried and alcohol doesn't fill that hole."
"I know, I've carried you home before. But I mean do you want to go get drinks with me and your brother? We could surprise Huey."
"Hey… That's not such a bad idea. I need to make a call."
“I’ll light your cupcakes on fire,” Boyd said cheerfully.
“No fair, starting the arson without me,” Louie laughed, as he pulled up the texts from the morning and tapping on Dewey’s number.
“Oh, hey! Hey, Louie, hold on, guys Louie’s on the phone, we gotta sing again!”
Louie laughed, cringing a little in anticipation of the awkwardness as his family began a staticky and muffled rendition of Happy Birthday.
“Thanks, guys, means a lot to me. Dewey, can I talk to you for a moment?”
“Sure, sure, let me just step outside,” A moment later Dewey’s voice came back, “What’s up?”
“Are you busy tomorrow?”
“Uh, not sure, why?”
“Well, it seems like Hubert lied about his birthday plans. Apparently, there were never any friends he was gonna go drinking with, so Fenton decided to drop by and he wanted to bring Boyd and Boyd thought it was a good idea if I tagged along. So what if we surprise Huey? He’s been working really hard at med school- hell, we’ve all been working really hard. What do you say?”
Dewey was silent for a minute and then Louie heard a laugh (Or was it a sob?) on the other end.
“Man, I’ve missed you guys so much. I’d love to do that. Let’s set something up, mm-kay?”
“Yeah. Boyd! Text Fenton and tell him that me and Dewey are gonna come surprise Huey, we’ll figure it out from there.”
“Okee dokee,” Boyd said cheerfully, putting an alarming amount of candles (probably 24) in one cupcake.
“I have to go, Dewey, I’m afraid that Boyd is about to set my apartment on fire without me, but I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow! Enjoy your fire hazard and your boyfriend.”
“Those are the same thing, Dewey.”
“Then enjoy your fire boyfriend. Boyfire? I dunno.”
“He is pretty fire, isn’t he? Bye, Dewey.”
“Bye!”
“Boyd if you light that you’ll coat that cupcake in so much wax it’ll be disgusting and that’s just a waste of a good cupcake.”
“Then I’ll eat that one. I’m an android I’m not as picky about what is and isn’t cupcake.”
“Sometimes, fortunately not often but sometimes, you remind me so much of Dewey that it’s terrifying.”
“Do you still love me?” Boyd asked, squinting a little and laser lighting the candles. As Louie had assumed it quickly became a soupy, fiery mess.
“More than words can express,” Louie said, capturing Boyd’s lips in a kiss after extinguishing the cupcake.
“Did you make a wish, baby?” Boyd asked, holding Louie close by the hips.
“I don’t need to, everything is going to be okay. In fact, I think that everything is going to be… Perfect.”
“Happy Birthday…”

So I wrote a Louyd supervillain and superhero AU fic it's rated M for a couple of things but it's not too too explicit (I haven't done sex or crime so it literally can't be that explicit) anyways here's the link if anyone wants to read it, the first five chapters are up.
