What inspired Luana's name?
Oh, it's nothing too big.
Luana in universe is from a country that's mostly analogous to our Hawai'i, with a few key differences that I won't get into or we'll be here forever.
Her name means "happiness," and it's a feminine Hawai'ian name. Google NOW has many sources saying it has many origins, (such as being a variante of Luanne) but I'm confident in her name's meaning and in the Polynesian origin.
She actually used to be called Tala, because one of the names sites I used when Tovera was a baby listed the Tagalog star goddess' name as a Polynesian one. I called her this for most of Tovera's lifespan actually, until around 3ish years ago when I realized I want my work to feel like it isn't phoned in-I didn't want to come off as a writer that just mish mashed what I wanted together because it sounds or looks cool, as that's already done WAY too much when it comes to non-white cultures and people in fiction.
All this being said, one thing that Luana inherited from her former name is her current star motif, which will become more notable as the story goes on.
#asks#oc tag: luana#I wanted to shift it to the moon and to be fair characters can have more than one motif#BUT I think I'll embody her moodiness in another celestial body/another narrative device/a common magic concept#I've settled on it a while back and I'm sold since it ties into the themes of identity/layers of the self. but that's for another day#as of now she's the star tarot wise kinda and in a morning star type of way#again. makes no sense now but will later. I usually avoid tarot motifs as the point of it is that everyone is every card on the journey-#of life. BUT I do think people associate stars with what her own character arc is about so I went with it in the end
