#again. its not zenos's actions themselves that i am against. or even his indifference to everything but the wol.

zenos is so incongruently written that he wraps back around to being somewhat interesting to think about. not because of how he himself is an interesting character (he is not) but because there is just so much to examine about how and why he doesn't actually fit into the story.
#like. if you plopped zenos into a setting that actually made sense for his character#id say he is fairly written#but in ffxiv hes just like#it feels like he's just kinda shoved in there whenever they need an excuse for something to happen/be possible/be IMpossible#and they only keep him relevant in order to do that#rather than writing in a way where he feels like an actual understandable product of his backstory#and where his involvement feels like a natural course#this is Especially apparent in stormblood but thats also just cause its his most blatantly incongruous First Appearance#like. i agree with the writing decision that stormblood was a good point in the story to have the wol be like#just utterly defeated and left in the dust#to not just be told 'that plan is crazy/impossible' but to actually genuinely NOT pull something off#but why was it Zenos#not in universe. not from a watsonion lens. i mean like as writers. why is it Zenos#in an arc where the empassioned cruelty and violence of imperialism is supposed to be the core horror#the big bad we need to defeat is....a guy who does not give a shit about any of that#again. its not zenos's actions themselves that i am against. or even his indifference to everything but the wol.#that in itself is interesting (or couldve been if done better)#its that his character just does not fit into the points they shove him into#and it sucks tbh he had a lot of easy ways he couldve been used well in writing#but noooooo#ky speaks
