so ive been thinking about the the NXX boys’ financial situations and attitudes towards wealth in terms of their homes and other stuffs and well
marius is a no brainer. his family owns the world’s largest megacorporation so he’s been in big bucks his whole life. i havent seen his place yet but i do know he has his own private studio for his art and also he in majored in oil painting. Art Stuff Costs A Lot, Oil Paints Cost So Much. additionally, across card stories, he often buys mc expensive things without a second thought. while this dude has shown that he knows money is important, he also has his moments where he like, forgets about it. because he’s had it his entire life.
vyn doesnt come on as strong as marius, but his wealth is apparent the moment we get to see his house (which, already is like. woah. a house??? like, on land you own?? in a big city????) which is victorian retro style fancy (which i assume just gets more expensive, in 2030). i was confused at first because sure, he’s a renowned psychology lecturer, but teaching doesnt get you enough money to play polo. then it all made sense when i learned that vyn came from a line of aristocrats, so basically he’s got money in his family much like marius does, thus indulging in bougie activities and amenities.
with artem, we finally breach into a semblance of “hey maybe this dude worked for this shit.” yes, his parents were big names in the law scene, but his mother is also a teacher, and once again i regret to inform you, teaching doesnt pay much. however, artem’s apartment is swaaaaanky in the minimalist shiny kind of way but also in the kind of way that like, the apartment Came Like This. i assume his job and seniority at themis law firm pays pretty alright, allowing him to live and rent out his stylish place and also afford what i assume is a huge dry cleaning bill for all the suits he wears. while he isnt into stuff as bougie as vyn, artem does have his interests (ex. his wide array of cooking implements that we had the wonderful pleasure of seeing in SR Sparks) and thusly pragmatically spends on them
and then luke comes in
and i am utterly delighted at the journey of information i went through
see, at first he made sense. like, oh, luke is the most casually and comfily dressed of all the boys, of course, his main source of income is being the only dude running his own detective agency, which cant earn much, can it? then we learn that luke’s status as a private detective is actually Great, a bunch of people know him and want his services. and then we remember, hey, wait, luke, you also own an antique shop, so thats another source of income. and THEN we learn that he’s an NSB agent still actively receiving orders. so like. luke is working three jobs. all jobs he is extremely good at. and then we see luke’s apartment in 5.1 of the main plot and it’s by far the most down to earth home we’ve seen in the game. luke sits on a beanbag, at some point in 5.1. he has a beanbag in his apartment.
i think this tells us everything we need to know about how he is with money.
anyway my point is something along the lines of this
mc: ooh, the NSB gives you a holiday bonus? that’s neat! do you want to go shopping?
luke: yeah, sure! i’d like another jacket
mc: luuuuuke, don’t you wanna treat yourself?
luke: i’d like...a north face jacket?
mc: luke.
luke: an...expensive north face jacket?
