“Why? Did he... do something?”

The severely under-paid, teenage employee’s initial reaction to being asked about Mr. Afton was certainly telling. The poor kid’s bloodshot eyes were darting from side to side like he expected that the old man was listening through the walls of the dingy establishment. He’d seen something, no doubt about it, and it had left him too scared to sleep but even more fearful of what might happen if he quit. God forbid he tell some no-name investigator like me about it.

The whole place smelled like cheap, cloyingly sweet birthday cake and stale pizza with a hint of vomit. In all my time as an investigator, I’d never been to a place that was so off-putting yet still in operation somehow. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Mr. Emily, if he wasn’t in on it too.

“I mean, he’s uhh... well, he sure is my boss. Mr. Emily handles the entertainment and Mr. Afton handles the finances. That’s what I was told anyway.”

Of course, I didn’t have a lick of evidence - certainly nothing that could be presented in court. It was all hear-say. Rumors. The kinds of scary stories kids tell each other for kicks. No one would believe it unless somebody proved it beyond a fraction of a doubt, and that wasn’t going well.

“He’s... nice?” The kid continued when I realized that I’d been staring. There had to be more. He knew there was more. “Doesn’t come out of his office much but when he does he’s always smiling. He-he’s good with the kids too? Like, he gets on their level.”

“Uh-huh. Look, I’m not a cop.” I tried to be reassuring but I was never a people person. Don’t get me wrong - I love people. I’m just the type who does more good from a distance. “I’m just here investigating some rumors. That’s probably all it is. Rumors.”

“Oh. Well uhh... he stays late sometimes. Says he just wants to be with the animatronics? There’s one in particular that he likes a whole lot - the yellow rabbit? I figure he must not have the best home life... but that’s none of my business!”

Yeah, he was nervous. This kid wanted me out of there pronto. I didn’t know how to get it through to him that I could help. That if those awful rumors were true, he wasn’t going to save any of those little ones by sticking around and keeping his lips sealed.

“Look...” I took a glimpse at his name tag, trying to establish a more personal connection. “Fritz... here’s my card. If you think of anything else, you just give me a call.”

On the note of charm, William isn’t overly concerned with looks, his or anyone else’s. In life his appearance ranged from being compared to a business-savvy Santa Claus to an emaciated and uncanny collection of living scars post-illness, neither of which could be called conventionally attractive. He’s just as confident in his charisma as a literal re-animated corpse as he was in his prime. Whatever kind of body he finds himself inhabiting, he’ll insist: “It’s still me.”

William, like many killers throughout history, is capable of projecting a great deal of superficial charm when he wants to get someone under his thumb. This sometimes backfires when he manages to convince even himself that he feels more for a person than he really does. He’s easily confused by his own feelings or lack thereof, with his desire to love far outweighing his actual capacity for it, and that contrast often results in often violent or even homicidal frustration.

Things Afton cannot do while human/during this M!A:

Ensure his ability to come back. His remnant experiments on his body and spirit have been temporarily completely reset, meaning if he dies just once like this, he has no idea what will happen to his soul.

Survive a springlock failure. Again, remnant experiments reset, making wearing his springlock suit risky.

Effectively defend himself. His suit can crush a person’s head effortlessly, but without it, he’s rather sickly. His large size and lack of restraint still allow him to fight off most other humans, but humans aren’t what he’s concerned about.

Interface with his springlock suit. He could still technically wear it if he wanted to take the risk, but he wouldn’t be able to control it directly as he’s grown accustomed to doing.

Control his robots. Without his ability to interface with his suit, he can’t extend that interface to his creations either. Any of them could potentially turn on him.

Remotely monitor his location. The cameras were all accessed by his spiritual link to his springlock suit.

what’s your OTP for your muse ? : I can’t limit it to just one! As a poly mun with a muse who’s needs haven’t been met by a single person in the past, I ship him with all of his best friends who might find themselves interested. Henry has a very special canon-relevant place in my heart for him though.

what are you willing to rp when it comes to shipping ? :  Anything except for relationship drama, which is often a PTSD trigger for me. I will RP smut if there’s enough chemistry and comfort between both muses and muns, but probably not publicly. Hit me up on Discord for that if we have a ship with good chemistry.

how large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable ? :  Anything under 20 is a no-no. The gap doesn’t matter so long as both parties are of adult maturity and of relatively sound mind.

are you selective when shipping? :  Extremely. You have to be a close friend of mine, my real life partner has to trust you, our characters must have chemistry, and you must be on at least friendly/accepting terms with the character’s other partners.

how far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered ns.fw ? :  As soon as genitals or sexual arousal are mentioned.

who are other muses you ship your muse with ? :  Henry, Kai, WD, Dings, Blu, Draggy, Leah, Chris

does one have to ask to ship with you ? :  I’d actually prefer not to be asked and to allow ships to develop naturally instead. If there’s chemistry, we’ll know. If there isn’t, don’t ask me to try and change that.

how often do you like to ship ? :  However often it happens naturally.

are you multiship ? :  No, but I am polyship. Not OPEN ship, polyship, as in I’ll ship with multiple people so long as there’s no conflict between partners and each is willing and able to accept and respect the others.

are you ship obsessed or ship more-or-less ? :  Ships are nice but they’re not my focus. I can’t call myself obsessed.

what is your favorite ship in your current fandom ? :  Henry and William’s love-hate thing. I like that dynamic even when it’s boiled down to JUST hatred or a one-sided obsession.

☆ - happy headcanon

William and Michael regularly spend time together. While Will’s still working on not making fun of his son’s struggles and saying less mean-spirited things as an outlet to make himself feel better, his humor is gradually shifting towards less hurtful jokes and pranks. He managed to tell Michael that he was proud of him, and that he is his hero after all.

♡ - romantic headcanon

William’s not opposed to giving romantic gestures, and has done so in the past, but such things usually, with some exceptions, feel artificial or even insincere to him. As a result, the people he really loves most tend to be shown his appreciation in less poetic and sentimental ways, giving quiet gifts or treating them instead as one might typically a best friend rather than a traditional lover.

♒ - cooking/food headcanon

He considers cooking a valid science and loved to experiment with food as a way to de-stress when he could still taste test and enjoy it for himself. Pretty much everything he cooked wound up fried in some kind of spiced butter, though.

☼ - appearance headcanon

His appearance is gradually shifting over time. While he still mostly resembles the “Springtrap” in FNAF 3, he has some elements of his appearance in the novels as well, with several unique upgrades. He now has more joints than he used to, for example, for better flexibility and mobility than his original suit could pull off.

☮ - friendship headcanon

William, perhaps unsurprisingly, didn’t have many friends as a child, due to his eccentricities, odd interests and poor health. It didn’t exactly help his case that he typically reacted to bullying with violence, thus intimidating even the kinder, more patient children.

It was only in his late teen years that he learned to control his emotions and began resorting to manipulation through surface-level charisma and showmanship instead. While he had quite a few “friends” during this stage of his life, he felt very little for them because he was too afraid of emotional vulnerability to show his true self to the people he met.

☠ - angry/violent headcanon, ☮ - friendship headcanon

Afton doesn’t enjoy being angry, and is actually much slower to anger than one might guess in his adult life. He might even be slower to anger than most people, especially now, with only a few blind rage-inducing buttons that are very particular and easily avoided with a little care.

When he’s violent it’s not usually out of anger - rather curiosity or elation. The feelings he experiences when harming others are more typically either interested, cold and calculating (his truest self) or manic, excited and sadistic (his Springtrap emotional mask).

Because he hasn’t had many true friends in his life, and even the individuals he considered real friends were typically in the dark about certain aspects of his personality and activities, he’s both inexperienced with feeling accepted, and a little bit (or sometimes extremely) obsessive in regards to his connections with others.

▼ - childhood headcanon

He didn’t really have one, or at least has very few pleasant memories of it. His father’s death at a young age resulted in his mother leaning on him for support far more than one should ever lean on a child, banking on his success in the business world in lieu of her deceased husband.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

He collects circus memorabilia, considers clowning one of the highest art forms, and enjoys making toys of all kinds when he has the time to indulge himself.

■ -  Bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon

He currently has a small living area beneath the pizzeria, adjacent to his workshop. It’s not equipped with much, on account of his unique, non-human needs, but he often finds himself missing his old house, and has plans to try and find whatever remains of it.

☾ - sleep headcanon

While William can’t sleep anymore, he alternated between periods of being almost incapable of sleeping, and almost incapable of staying awake in life. He very much enjoyed sleeping when things looked hopeless, both as a way to pass some time, and with the hope that dreams might bring him new creative ideas.

★ - sad headcanon

He started playing with children’s toys a lot more after Cassidy’s fatal accident, and his wife’s resulting suicide. Michael was probably witness to this, making Michael one of the only people who understands how affected his father really was and why he went so far off the deep end.

✿ - sex headcanon

While he was never sexually attracted to his springlock suit or the character it represented, he does identify with said suit and character sexually, and greatly prefers other anthropomorphic characters to humans in the way of arousal. Basically he’s a huge furry.
