[BG3 spoilers below]
I was really hoping the Shar stuff in this game would have more nuance to it with one of your companions being a Shar worshipper. But so far it feels like the same old “darkness = evil, light = good” with a nice smattering of “Satanists Sharrans are coming to kidnap your children and groom them into their evil cult!!”
I acknowledge that most of this is rooted in D&D itself and that the writers of BG3 were probably limited in what they could do with these licensed characters and world. But it still sucks and is so boring. Feels like a high fantasy version of a every old Satanic Panic horror movie out there
#no further spoilers please I’m not done with the game yet#but like#the whole entire game I was going Please don’t let this be SH’s backstory. please something other than that.#and let out the world’s longest groan when it of course turned out to be that#after the Thaniel thing i thought the most interesting backstory for SH would have been that she was a shadow half of someone else#so Shar *literally* would have been her mother like SH calls her. and if you care about SH you’d have to accept that she was born from-#-the shadow curse youre trying to eliminate. and I thought maybe the Sharrans found her & recognized that she was born from their goddess.#so they rescued and cared for her because she was sort of holy in a way.#what we got by comparison is so boring to me 😩#Yugioh continues to be the only franchise I’m into that has a novel take on this stuff with The Gentle Darkness & The Light of Destruction
