I'm writing the saddest Bond fic in the world, and because it'll probably never get finished, I'm going to bullet point it here because I need people to cry with. It's 5000 words at the moment. I think I need it to be about 30,000.

After the events of NTTD, Q is grieving Bond. Privately, he is also grieving that Bond being the one who got away, or at least the one who would not stay. They slept together once, in the aftermath of Skyfall death, and as Q says in the fic, it was "the pinnacle of my years-long journey into vastly unrequited love."

After snapping at Mallory during a meeting, Mallory schedules Q some psychology appointments. There are snippets of these appointments throughout the fic.

Q throws out all his plants. Replaces them with sculptural bits and pieces from around the lab.

Over a year on from Bond's death, MI6 recruits a new 004. His name is Edward Jones. He's tall and lithe, with auburn hair, an excellent sense of humour, and no outwardly visible baggage. He takes an interest in Q.

But Q refuses -- categorically refuses -- to ever get involved with an agent again. That was an unspoken rule before Bond died, and now it's non-negotiable.

Except Q is no good at sticking to the rules. He's just as bad as Bond was, really. Edward is charming, and though he asks Q to dinner, he doesn't press after Q refuses him. Instead, perhaps having talked to Nomi or Moneypenny, he is simply there. All the time. He becomes a shoulder to lean on and a friend, despite all Q's attempts to distance himself.

But then...Mallory asks Q to help on a project that will reverse the effects of Heracles, and Q snaps. Already feeling a colossal amount of guilt for telling Bond it couldn't be fixed, Q cannot deal with the thought of coming up with a cure when he cannot administer it to the one person who deserved to be cured.

Distraught, stressed and full of fury at everything, he sleeps with Edward that night. And -- shock horror! -- sex works as an excellent temporary coping mechanism, so Q keeps sleeping with him. Against all his rules, he's given into his heart again.

“Who was he?” asks Edward, one day, as Q is making breakfast. / “Who was who?”/ “Whoever you’re trying to forget when you’re with me.”

“You’re a bastard,” snaps Q, another day, when Edward pushes too hard. / “Is that me you’re talking to, or him?”

After the above fight/angry sex/make up sex combo, Edward goes away on a mission and gets shot.

Q, reeling, doesn't visit him in hospital. Though he wants to, he thinks it's smarter to stay away. Best not get too attached (Oh, Q! we're crying, you're already attached!!!)

Edward, unsurprisingly does not take this well. “Enjoy living with your ghosts, Quartermaster,” he says, before going home to heal and get very drunk.

And maybe it's the getting shot bit, or maybe it's that they're making progress on a cure for Heracles, or maybe it's Moneypenny finally shaking Q until something comes loose, but Q cannot sleep. He feels sick about Edward. He feels awful. What kind of Quartermaster doesn't visit an injured agent? What kind of friend doesn't? What kind of lover, casual or not?

Plagued with guilt and realising he feels more for Edward than he ever intended to, Q turns up at arse-o-clock in the morning, in the rain to Edward's flat. Amongst other things, he says:

“He was an agent. Another Double-0." and

"I'm so sorry." and

“I spent nearly a decade of my life hiding that I loved him, from myself, him, and anyone else who might have wanted to hear. It’s the biggest regret I have. I don’t want to make the same mistakes again.”

Hot, passionate, intense, slow make up sex.

After a few more missions, Edward tells Q, "I'm finished. I enjoyed the job, but I only loved it because it led me to you."

They take a visit to Skyfall, where Q runs into Kincade and talks to Bond's grave where he says, among other things:

"Hello, James. I hope you’re getting some well-earned rest." and

“I love him. Eve told me you would want to hear that. I’m not so sure. You always were a bit of a possessive prick about the other agents having what was yours.” and

“I still love you. I think I will until the end of my days. It’ll be a privilege to carry you with me. Whatever small part of you I had.”

Q is in a daze most of that night. In the morning, he apologises to Edward for all the tears, and Edward replies:

“Never — and I do mean never — apologise for loving someone, especially not as well as you loved him."

Cue the I love yous and sex.

They return to London, where the Heracles cure has hit a roadblock. Q tells Mallory he wants nothing to do with the project anymore. However it turns out, it wasn't his burden to carry in the first place. He wants to be free of it.

The story ends in a quintessential English garden: Kendal in the spring. It's years later, and Edward brings Q a cup of tea in the garden, where Q is trying to read Les Misérables and failing. Instead, he's taking notes in the margins on hummingbirds.

They look up to see a red kite soaring through the air. Q things wistfully of Bond. It's a dull hurt, now, not the scraping raw thing that it was when he met Edward. Bond would probably enjoy Q remembering him in the wings of a bird of prey; always free.

Q still loves London, but he thinks he can imagine another life, a few years away yet, watching the birds in the Lake District and working in his shed, with Edward reading a book at his side.

Some of my 'Bond Truths'...

So I need to post something to reach my weekly goal for the Fest. I have less than an hour. More headcanons? Takes too much time. But there are some universal Bond Truths that are always present in my writing and in my personal headcanon universe. So let's go with a list of those. * Bond knows he's not mentally stable and well-adjusted or even a good person (whatever that means). He genuinely doesn't care, and doesn't really want to change 'for the better'. He might want to change his *life* in some ways but not who he is. * Q is older than he looks. I choose to think of him as around the same age as Ben Wishaw, it's still very young for his position at the time of Skyfall. * Mallory is not the bad guy NTTD makes him look, and neither is he stupid. *Felix Leiter lives. Except in London Burns, because that is a bleak, hopeless world. * Q is a head over heart -person and perfectly capable of putting his feelings aside. How else would he survive? * Moneypenny's greatest strength as a person and as a character is that she gets things done. She is a strong character that drives the narrative. My Moneypenny is the Skyfall Moneypenny who also recognises what is best for herself and doesn't take the new desk job as a demotion. *Bond is not anyone's father and never will be one. Duh. He'd cringe at the idea. *Bond and Q... they might be fated, but never to live together happily ever after. * Bond never retires. He never dies either - but we all know that's not really true. When he dies, he dies 'off-screen', in the line of duty, in whatever imaginary role the universe has given him. His legacy will be his life-long service, and only a few within the agency will truly remember and mourn him.

Bond falls victim to what I am now calling "Steve Rogers Syndrome," where a main character throws away his found family (which the audience has become much more attached to) in favor of a bland, boring, nuclear/heterosexual life. Just because Bond doesn't get his "happy ending" doesn't mean that he doesn't fall into this trope.

I think a lot of people would agree with me when I say that Bond & Madeline have no chemistry. They had no chemistry in Spectre and they continue to have none in NTTD. And yet, we're supposed to care about their relationship because 1) the narrative (i.e. Bond) tells us, instead of shows us, that he loves her, and 2) there is a child (which the narrative also tells us that we should care about).

But the truth is that Bond doesn't trust Madeline. Not really. The second he's attacked by Spectre, he immediately blames her and doesn't even question if he's wrong (and she doesn't really try to convince him otherwise). Now, you may chalk this up to Bond not trusting anybody, but here's where we get to the found family: because he does trust his MI6 family, implicitly, immediately.

He trusts Eve enough to tell her about the scientist, Feliks, what happened in Cuba, etc., and to ask for her help. He trusts Q so much that he gives him the flashdrive he recovered in Cuba, he stays with Q in his apt while he's in London, he places his life in Q's hands multiple times throughout Skyfall, Spectre, and NTTD. He trusts Mallory - even after knowing his shadiness with Herakles, he still trusts him enough to go back under his command. He even trusts Nomi after only a few days of meeting her - enough to trust her to have his back on the island, enough to trust her with Madeline and his child.

So the fact that Bond doesn't trust Madeline is a huge, huge red flag. To me, the "trilogy" of Skyfall, Spectre, and NTTD were all about establishing Bond's support system and family within MI6. In Casino Royale and QoS, he really only had M, and no other connections to MI6 beyond her. But starting with Skyfall, he begins to build a support network of people he does trust in MI6, and the audience begins to trust them (and love them) along with Bond.

This simply doesn't apply to Madeline, because Bond doesn't trust her, and so the audience is never shown why we should trust her or love her.

Ten days into July, Luciferase got hit by a car. We all tried to pull her through, but a week later she died after the surgery. I'm still not okay even typing it, because she was loved and is missed greatly.

we just took in two small girls and parenting young kittens again. it's a bit bitter still because the plan was to just take a friend for Lucy, but.

but every kind comment and every short chat brought me out of the everyday misery, so people who did drop by - please know you lot are the saviours of my sanity.

BEFORE THE BEGINNING for whatever project you're most excited about rn 👀

🍁! It’s been a while! I’m so glad you liked the chapter, I was feeling weird about it, but wolfstar canon can’t go wrong I guess.

BEFORE THE BEGINNING: three sentences about something that happened before the plot of my current project.

I’m currently very excited about my supernatural fic, even though it will probably be a while before it sees the light of day hahaha (I’m loving the show so much, I’m starting season three this week and already so so attached to all the characters. Much to my partners dismay, I’m a Sam girlie)

I will come up with a title eventually, but for now it’s drafted as “Woah it’s Emmy”

Three things that happened before main plot:

Despite John's attempts to raise Emmy as Michael, whenever he was gone, she would deliberately rebel against it with the help of her brothers, painting her nails, learning how to do makeup and wearing dresses. On one occasion, after John was a particularly terrible father, Dean and Sam organised a 'girl's night' where they all painted each other's nails, Emmy did Dean's eyeliner, and they went out to a thrift shop to try on ridiculous outfits. Dean even modeled a mini-skirt, causing Sam and Emmy to have hysterics in the shop.

In one of the places they stayed long enough to go to school, someone shoved Sam into a locker in front of Emmy. Dean only managed to stop her from pulling one of the hunting knives she had on her through sheer luck, scruffing her like a puppy and throwing her over his shoulder. She was later thoroughly scolded about how they 'really didn't need to have armed assault on her record and she needs to be more careful and only threaten jackasses with knives when there aren't any witnesses'.

Right up until she was thirteen, whenever there were lightning storms, Emmy would crawl into Dean's bed to sleep. Sam never minded the lightning, but he hated sleeping alone and would always end up joining them. Even after she deemed herself 'too old' to crawl into her older brother's bed, Dean would always end up sitting with her by the window sill as she stared out with fear, and would stroke her hair until she fell asleep again so he could carry her back to bed.

So there we are!!! Woah its Emmy starts at the Pilot episode, and will go right through to S15, I have a fair chunk of plot so far planned out (and so much trauma) and I greatly look forward to giving her even more trauma!

2024 BondFest Master Post!

This is everything I've posted this past month for Fest!

This month I'm starting to post my longfic, lovingly known to me as my CafeVerse, an AU NTTD Fix It Fic. A quick summary?

James Bond messes up, and loses the love of his life, Q. After being apart for two years, James, a newly widowed single father, moves back to London to raise his daughter Mathilde. He remeets an old friend, John Watson, and the two men decide to open a coffee shop together. Thankfully, John Watson won't let James and his brother-in-law, Ford suffer alone for too long, Ford comes to pick his niece Rosie up for a weekend sleep over, making James and Ford - Q- meet face to face again.

00Swann in The Guardian!

Today, in the list of things I didn't expect to see when scrolling The Guardian's front page, I give you...

There are so many things that I love about it:

they picked an illustration that is not a production still, meaning that the writer or the image provider had to deliberately put the film on and freeze it mid-kiss on the best-looking frame (the parted lips!! the purple hues!!) — glad to get validation that it's not just deranged people like me doing this <3

Léa Seydoux is pictured twice in the article — you go girl, keep fighting the good sensual scene fight like the trooper that you are (too bad they had to take BITWC as the second example tho)

don't let our small fandom numbers fool you: 00swann is enough of a recognizible ship in the whole wild world that The Guardian would use them as a header for their sex scene article!!

With that said, shame on the interviewee who is throwing NTTD in the bucket of the films that only use women as sex objets. That may have been true of the James Bond films of decades past, or even for some characters of the CraigBond run like Monica Bellucci's or Gemma Arterton's (after all, you can't have Ms or Moneypennys all the time), but how can you hope to be taken seriously with that sort of comment when NTTD's entire plot is built around the female love interest?

I discovered him when Casino Royale came out. My mum is a Bond fan from way back, and I grew up on the franchise. I was a teenager when Daniel Craig first graced us with his blue swim shorts, so it was…formative, shall we say. lol.

For all the time I’ve spent watching Bond films (most of my life), I only joined the 00Q fandom after NTTD. I think it was the “Shut up, Q, I know he’s staying with you!” line that got me. I walked home wondering (with my eyes still wet from NTTD’s ending) if there was a tag on AO3 for 00Q, and I specifically remember having a little chuckle to myself at the ship name. I was so excited to see that was exactly what it was called!

Anyway on that same walk I had an idea for my first fic and posted it not long after. The responses were so lovely that I just kept writing. And now here we are! ❤️❤️❤️

Already a Day behind and it's only Day 2 of Fluffbury. Here is my OOQ ficlet for the prompt 'velvet'. Set in NTTD, we find out who Q was really cooking dinner for.

One Nice Night

Q swooped Charlie up and buried his face in her velvet soft, wrinkled skin. Her capacity to adsorb tears was surprising considering the lack of fur. He didn't want either of them to see him weeping, as that would lead to demands for an explanation he couldn't give. 

Silent as ever, he realised James was behind him only as his warm hand landed on Q's left shoulder, mouth leaning even closer.

"I'm sorry love, I had no idea Eve would escort me here. Tried to shake her off, but, well, you know."

Q pulled himself together with a sigh. They have waited over 18 months, so what difference would a few more minutes make? He turned, the loneliness of recent months bringing him close to temper tantrum levels of frustration. Meeting James' soft eyes, overflowing with kindness was too much. Q leaned in, took James' face in his hands and kissed him, sweetly, gently.

Of course, Moneypenny arrived out of the downstairs bathroom at exactly that moment. Her 'Oh!" brought both men's eyes to meet hers. James pulled Q tightly into him and kissed his cheek.

"You can have exactly one glass of wine, two minutes of explanation and three questions. Then you are leaving Miss Moneypenny." James clarified.

Eve moved to the table, poured a large glass of red and sank it down in one before waving the glass at Q in a 'go on' sort of movement.

Unable to leave James' arms now he was finally- finally! in them, Q spoke over his shoulder. 

"I kept an eye on Bond after he retired. Had to, you know, got to keep them all safe. Who knew who he might have drawn out of the woodwork. Anyway, I sent a message of condolences when he and Madeline parted ways - oh, you did know that had happened didn't you? There was a bomb and a train.. anyway, we corresponded and then phoned and then video chatted and, well, one thing kind of happened after another and, well, here we are."

"So you knew he wasn't dead all along?"

"That was question one, and yes, he did know." James admitted.

"But why all the hiding? Why the subterfuge?"

The men exchanged a look, Q nodding at James in silent permission.

"Q has unearthed something at -6. Something not right, Eve. I needed to stay off the radar, do some digging. I'm afraid that chip is the proof we have been waiting for. We will need your help, but not tonight. Tomorrow we go to work, but tonight.." James gestured to the table, the wine and smiled, "I believe Q has gone to a lot of trouble for me."

Eve's eyes roamed from James to Q and back. She stalked into their space and poked James hard in the chest.

"Question three. Do you love him?" She tilted her head towards Q.

James smiled the gentlest smile Eve had ever seen grace his handsome face, a warmth wiping away the new lines. 

"Oh yes, I love him." James gazed at Q and leaned down, doing his best to convey the truth of this through his kiss.

"Oh-kay." Eve spun on her stiletto and headed for the door. "I'll see you both at 9 a.m"

"Make it 12. Let me have one nice night before the world explodes." Q laughed at her retreating back.
