Cómo volver a retomar la relación con una persona distanciada Muchos son los afortunados que conservan amistades y otros vínculos personales desde la infancia, pero para muchos otros se terminan por enfriar o dejan de existir con el paso del tiempo Durante toda nuestra vida pasamos por diferentes etapas, todas ellas con sus peculiaridades, circunstancias y retos. Estas quedan marcadas por nuestro propio desarrollo, pero también por las diferentes personas que forman parte de nuestra historia. Muchos son los afortunados que conservan amistades y relaciones personales desde la infancia, pero para muchos otros estas amistades se terminan por enfriar o dejan de existir con el paso del tiempo.

Olga Fernández-Velilla, psicóloga en Instituto Cláritas, explica que las relaciones, bien sean de pareja, familiares o de amistad, se pueden enfriar por diferentes motivos: distancia física, falta de tiempo, diferencias en la manera de entender la vida, rutina, conflictos… «Cuando esto ocurre, tendemos a pensar que recuperar esa relación es muy difícil o incluso imposible, pero eso no tiene por qué ser así».

La propia evolución personal es otro de los motivos. Así lo indica la psicóloga Paula Riega, de Mediquo: «Las personas cambian, y no somos los mismos que hace años, por lo que aquello que teníamos en común puede desaparecer». También es muy común que algún conflicto no resuelto del pasado hiciera que tomaras distancia. «Seguimos pensando en aquello que pasó, siendo posible que la otra persona ya ni recuerde lo que hizo o incluso no le diera la importancia que nosotros le hemos dado. Y lo mismo puede pasar al revés, que sin querer hayamos molestado a alguien y no sepamos el motivo», explica Riega.

Esto está relacionado con el orgullo. El hecho de que no nos llamen o no quieran quedar con nosotros, nos lleva a alejarnos, ya que pensamos: ¿si no me habla, por qué lo tengo que hacer yo?

No obstante, Riega recuerda que hay que ser sincero y honesto con uno mismo y reflexionar sobre si hemos puesto de nuestra parte para que esa relación no acabase, si me he interesado por la vida de la otra persona… Y después valorar la imagen que tenemos de ella, por qué tenías relación y si te gustaba pasar tiempo con ella.

«Si después de sopesar todo esto tienes intención de intentar retomar la relación, debes aceptar que es posible que esa persona haya cambiado», apunta la psicóloga. Tener de nuevo contacto es volver a conoceros mutuamente, estando la posibilidad de que no encajéis y aceptando el tiempo del que disponéis cada uno y por tanto podéis dedicaros.

Consejos para acercarte de nuevo a esa persona

Fomentar la comunicación. Parece evidente, pero el primer paso será tomar la iniciativa y tratar de comunicar cómo nos sentimos y por qué es importante para nosotros recuperar esa relación.

Si hace mucho que no tienes contacto, comienza con una llamada o un mensaje interesándote por su vida actual. Así os podréis poner al día de las novedades y hacerle saber que te acuerdas de ella, abriendo la puerta a hablar en cualquier otro momento cuando os venga bien.

Buscar puntos en común o actividades dónde se disfrute juntos. Compartir objetivos os ayudará a mantener la amistad.

Solucionar el conflicto que generó el distanciamiento, en el caso de que hubiera alguno.

Evitar achaques o reproches, tales como «por qué no me has llamado» o el típico «estás perdido». Puede no tener una mala intencionalidad, pero indirectamente estás culpando al otro del distanciamiento.

Asume que ambos podéis haber cambiado, por tanto, ajusta tus expectativas y no esperes que todo vuelva a ser como antes. Aprovechad esta nueva oportunidad para redescubriros.

No esperes que los demás cambien su vida por ti y no te frustres si no lo hacen. Cada persona está en un momento distinto.

Piensa qué fue lo que fallo la última vez y qué podríais hacer diferente en esta segunda oportunidad.

Pero, ¿vale la pena retomar la relación?

Fernández-Velilla expone que cuando un distanciamiento surge y queremos retomar la relación es importante analizar las causas que lo generaron, así como por qué ahora queremos retomar la relación.

Debemos preguntarnos si realmente queremos recuperar esa relación y si la respuesta es afirmativa, adelante, pero debemos recordar que eso no garantiza que la otra persona se encuentre en la misma página que tú.

Si por el contrario valoramos que no es el mejor momento para un reencuentro –expone Riega– tenemos que respetarnos y centrarnos en las personas con las que nos sentimos cómodos para pasar tiempo con ellas
