Emma Saltzberg: When Israeli state actors were trying to influence the American Jewish conversation, what did that look like? What kind of activism were they targeting?

Geoffrey Levin: One of the main figures in the book is Don Peretz, a pacifist-leaning American Jew who volunteered to help displaced Palestinian Arabs in Israel in 1949, wrote the first dissertation on Palestinian refugees, and later became a major scholar on the subject. In 1956, the AJC hired Peretz to be their first Middle East consultant, and he wrote pamphlets for them about Arab refugees that did not rule out return as part of a possible solution. Later that year, Israeli diplomats pushed the AJC to fire him. The AJC compromised by allowing Peretz’s writings for them to be looked over—or censored—by the Israelis. Eventually, the AJC did push Peretz out. Israeli diplomats also successfully lobbied the London-based Jewish Chronicle, as well as several mainstream American Jewish publications, to disaffiliate with their longtime writer William Zukerman because he repeatedly wrote about the Palestinian refugee problem and was upset about refugees not being able to return.

A lot of these figures they went after, including Zukerman and Peretz, were not radical anti-Zionists. But Israeli diplomats were actually more concerned about these people who were operating within the American Jewish mainstream, because during its early years Israel relied heavily on American Jewish financial and political support. And they were afraid that the American government might pressure Israel to accept a limited refugee return, which they opposed because they wanted to maintain a larger Jewish demographic majority and to avoid having to return land to its previous Arab owners. So they didn’t want the American Jewish community wavering on its opposition to that. As far as Israel was concerned, it was best if American Jews just didn’t talk about Palestinian refugees at all—unless they were repeating Israeli talking points.

ES: What about the CIA and Arab state actors? How were they trying to influence American discourse on Israel/Palestine?

GL: Surprisingly, one of the main reasons American Jews were thinking about Palestinian refugees in the mid-1950s is because this CIA-funded anti-Zionist organization called the American Friends of the Middle East (AFME) was raising awareness about the Palestinian cause. This was part of the Eisenhower administration’s effort to create more political space to push Israel to make concessions to Egypt to help them court Arab nationalist Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser as an anti-Communist ally. In the US, AFME ran propaganda campaigns against Zionism. Many of its members were white American Protestants, though AFME also sponsored the creation of the Organization of Arab Students. So the first national American Arab student organization was funded with CIA money, though the students didn’t know that; they were just advocating for their cause.

There were also Arab state actors who were advocating for Palestinians in the US; I focus on the work of Fayez Sayegh, who was running the Arab League office in the US for a short period in the mid-1950s. At that moment, there was a hope amongst some in the American foreign policy establishment and some more conservative Arabs—often Christian like Sayegh—that America and the Arabs would align to counter Soviet influence in the Middle East. But by the ’60s, and especially by the ’70s, that dream was falling apart as Cold War alliances solidified. And so you had Arab states and the Palestinians moving in an anti-US direction, turning toward Third World alliances and alignment with global anti-colonial struggles. In fact, In the early ’70s, that Arab student group that was first funded by the CIA ended up being monitored by the FBI.

Global Markets Association and Status Markets Scams

Global Markets Assocaiton and Status Markets have received allegations of being major scams. Find out if those allegations are true in this review.

The well-known Bitcoin Profit fraud campaign is currently searching for new victims of the broker scams run by MarCo Global Projects Ltd. and BI Level World Ltd.’s Global Markets Association (www.gm-associat.com) and Status Markets (www.status-mark.com). Both businesses have Marshall Islands registrations. PayTechno (www.paytechno.com) is another payment processor that we discovered to be involved in scams. Among other places, the SmartInvestApp website (https://smartinvestapp.com/bitcoinprofit/) hosts the Bitcoin Profit campaign.

Following their registration, victims of the Bitcoin Profit campaign are sent via the unpronounceable website Trkitifucan (www.trkitifucan.info) to the payment sites of the individual broker frauds, where they risk losing their money through the payment processors that enable the scam. We at Global Markets Association have uncovered Estonian PayTechno’s role as a facilitator of scams once more.

The two websites (platforms) PayTechno (www.paytechno.com) and The Best Gateway (www.thebestgateway.com), which target high-risk online retailers and scammers, are run by PayTechno OÜ, a cryptocurrency payment processor licensed by the Estonian FIU. The company, CryptoPayTech (www.cryptopaytech.com), also runs a third platform that appears to be targeted at private persons. The beneficial proprietor of the business is Asaf Izhak Rubin, an Israeli.

What is Bitcoin?

The original decentralised cryptocurrency is called Bitcoin. Peer-to-peer nodes in the bitcoin network encrypt and publicly record all transactions in a distributed ledger known as a blockchain, decentralised from a central authority.

Mining, a computationally demanding proof-of-work system, is used to bring nodes to consensus. As of 2022, the mining of bitcoin accounted for 0.2% of global greenhouse gas emissions and required a growing amount of power.

An unidentified individual named Satoshi Nakamoto created bitcoin in 2008, basing it on the principles of the free market. When the open-source version of bitcoin was released in 2009, people started using it as money. El Salvador accepted it as legal money in 2021. These days, people use bitcoin less as a means of commerce or as a unit of account and more as a store of value. Most academics view it as an investment, and several have called it an economic bubble. Because bitcoin is anonymous, authorities have become aware of its usage by criminals, which has resulted in a number of countries banning it as of 2021.

Global Markets Association

An international trade group representing the securities and financial markets sector is called the Global Financial Markets group (GFMA). It was established in 2009 to serve as the parent organisation for three local organisations:

The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME), with headquarters in Brussels, Frankfurt, and London. 

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), with headquarters in New York City and Washington, DC. 

And the Asian Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA), with headquarters in Hong Kong.

One of the primary avenues for global financial services industry advocacy and lobbying is the GFMA. Along with peers like the Financial Services Forum, Bank Policy Institute, International Securities Lending Association, Futures Industry Association, International Capital Market Association, Institute of International Finance, and International Swaps and Derivatives Association, it frequently adopts positions on policy.[Reference required] Even though it is a trade association, its research is often acknowledged in discussions about financial services policy, even though it may not always be seen as offering a fair perspective.

The three regional organisations alternately supply the GFMA’s secretariat over two-year periods. Adam Farkas, CEO of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe, was appointed CEO of the Association in March 2022.

There are several types of cryptocurrency frauds. Crypto scammers will stop at nothing to get their hands on your cryptocurrency, just as financial crooks will attempt to grab money from your bank account or charge bogus amounts on your credit card. Refuse demands to share your private keys for cryptocurrencies. No one requires those keys for a valid cryptocurrency transaction; they manage your wallet access and cryptocurrency.

Businesses that guarantee large profits should be avoided.

Investment managers that get in touch with you and promise to increase your money quickly should be avoided.

When “celebrities” reach out to you, be cautious. A true star won’t get in touch with you to discuss purchasing cryptocurrencies.

Connect with potential love partners in person through online dating platforms or dating apps. Give them no money.

Ignore emails and texts from new or well-known businesses claiming to be concerned about your account and offering to assist you “unfreeze” it, or stating that your account has been frozen.

If you receive an email, text, or message on social media purporting to be from the government, law enforcement, or utility provider and informing you that your assets or accounts are frozen, get in touch with a regulatory body. Don’t react to the original letter using their correspondence channel. Instead, visit an agency’s official website for information on how to get in touch.

Jobs for crypto miners or cash-to-crypto converters should be ignored.

Examine any explicit material that a con artist claims to have about you and threatens to post if you don’t provide cryptocurrency. This is extortion. Report it.

Never take “free” money.

So....I reapplied to work with Adventist Frontier Missions

Stupid, I know... but I found myself at the application page for some reason, and I was curious what one had to fill out (it had been a few years since I applied), and I started to fill it out somewhat sarcastically. Before I knew it, I hit submit and got an email from one of the top brass of AFM! I imagine to myself what the world would have looked like for me had I just pretended to believe and went along with everything. Could have I put my morals aside and told others that Ellen G White was inspired, that the Sunday law was a real thing, and that reading fiction leads to insanity? Could have I put my dignity behind and told others that it is not good to play cards/checkers/chess, go bowling, or have too much sex with one's spouse? I don't know... I could have lived an easier life like some of my ex cronies do. But, I could not get myself to do it. Even at the start, I could not get myself to raise donations. It seemed strange and deeply immoral to me. And then I started to read about Ellen White and it all fell apart. So, I don't know if I should have applied to work with AFM again. The person who looked over my application could tell I was not serious, and no, I am not serious. Then he tried to get me to accept Jesus. I don't think so, tiger. Not today. Not your Jesus. Not Ellen White's nasty Jesus. I don't want anything to do with that person. That person didn't die for me. That person wants me to live a life of death. No cards, checkers, fiction, cheese, entertainment, laughing, joking, or spending my earnings on enjoying life? No thanks. That sounds like a hellish existence. Not being able to swim on the Sabbath. Screw that! Nah, I'm glad to be free of that Jesus, and I am so glad I can joke around about being a part of AFM. Will. Never. Ever. Happen.

La représentation de l'enfer est souvent associée aux flammes et au feu éternel, elle peut symboliser la souffrance, la douleur, le chagrin et l'éternité du châtiment pour les péchés commis. Il est important de se rappeler qu'il y a toujours un espoir de rédemption, même si nous avons commis des erreurs dans le passé.

Anvil est un groupe de heavy metal de Toronto, Canada, formé en 1973 par Steve 'Lips' Kudlow (chant, guitare, vibromasseur) et Robb Reiner (batterie, forge), avec depuis 2014 comme bassiste Chris Robertson. Premier missile metOl en 1981 « Hard 'N' Heavy ».

Le groupe voulait les feux de la rampe mais a connu les clignotants de la désillusion, cependant il a toujours eu la volonté tenace de satisfaire son art sidérurgiste malgré les modes passagères. Les expériences malheureuses de la vie forgent une personne, cependant elles laissent également en plaies non cicatrisées un cœur amoché. C’est aussi ce qui produit l’attachement avec Anvil, et sa musique s’illustre ainsi. Forte, puissante, acérée avec son heavy munit de riffs tranchants et de hooks accrocheurs, il est aussi fragile en réitérant cette formulation éculée depuis les années 80 à vous filer une phobie des imprimantes, et du carbone 14 pour les plus anciens. Si paradoxalement AC/DC a acquis sa notoriété par une formule éculée mais gagnante, Anvil n’a pas eu la même trajectoire. Pourtant il a traversé les époques et les vogues, sans jamais surfer vague après vague sur l’une d’entre-elle, il est resté fondateur de sa collision avec la forge, tout comme Judas Priest, Accept, Saxon… y reviendront.

Leur 20ème album studio sortira le 28 juin 2024 via AFM, « One And Only » a été produit par Martin « Mattes » Pfeiffer (U.D.O., entre autres) et Jörg Uken chez son studio Soundlodge. Vous y trouverez l’aciérie speedée à la Motörhead avec le titre « Fight For Your Right », une lourdeur venimeuse venue de la fonderie de Black Sabbath des 80’s pour « Heartbroken », et toujours ce qu’Anvil sait faire, taper sur son enclume et forger l’acier d’une musique désormais ancestrale, car façonnée uniquement par des artisans depuis toujours. Alors ce sont des titres de métallurgie qui crachent des braises d’un autre-temps, pas besoin de Delorean pour y accéder, même un cœur amoché secouera sa tignasse contre son fer riffique, il y a aussi bien entendu des solos pugnaces, une rythmique toujours béton, et une sincérité rock’n’roll dont on ne peut tout simplement pas ignorer, où s’en moquer (en tous cas pour ma part), surtout dans une époque virtuellement sociale à la cool cynique et désinvolte. Pour certains il y a un capital sympathie et une musique limitée et sympathoche qu’un large public préfère ignorer, pour d’autres dont je fais partie, Anvil a toujours à cœur de filer le mojo d’un maréchal-ferrant, de bazarder le suc de sa grêle sonique en avançant d’un pas de vieil ours malicieux. En 2010 Anvil était au Hellfest vers 15h00, j’étais là quand Lips a déclaré « Il aura fallu attendre 30 ans pour qu'Anvil vienne jouer en France !». Programmé le 04 novembre 2022 à Toulouse le concert avait été annulé, sheu!

Anvil sera au Hellfest 2024 le samedi 29 juin à 13h35 et je serais encore là à me péter la nuque sur l’enclume heavy ; )

Crystal Ball & Bad Marilyn

Das Album CRYSTERIA eröffnet ein neues Kapitel in CRYSTAL BALL's Geschichte: In ihrer dritten Dekade ist die Band weit davon entfernt sich nur noch zu wiederholen. Man findet immer wieder neue und frische, energiegeladene Elemente in ihrer Musik. Die Band hat sich während der "Corona-Pause" intensiv Zeit genommen und an neuem Songmaterial gearbeitet, so dass sie aus über 30 Songs für CRYSTERIA auswählen konnten. CRYSTAL BALLs neuer Gitarrist Peter Berger hat viele Songs und Ideen zum neuen Album beigetragen. Er ist ein erfrischender und motivierender Input. Die Produktion von CRYSTERIA (von Stefan Kaufmann) hat sich tatsächlich nochmals weiter verbessert und reflektiert die Live-Energie der Band. Die Band hat 1995 unter dem Namen "Cherry Pie" als Cover-Band angefangen und unzählige Konzerte gespielt. Diese grosse Bühnenerfahrung, hat zur Gründung von CRYSTAL BALL geführt. Unter diesem Banner sind sie zu einer von Europas führenden Grössen im Hard Rock-Genre geworden. Mit „In the Beginning", haben CRYSTAL BALL 1999 ihren Kreuzzug gestartet. Das erste Album war sehr erfolgreich, ist aber locker von seinem Nachfolger„Hard Impact" übertroffen worden, das von diversen Magazinen als „Album Of The Month" hochgelobt wurde. Es folgte eine erfolgreiche Tour mit PRETTY MAIDS. Keiner konnte sich mehr vor CRYSTAL BALL verstecken. Das Resultat: ein neuer Plattendeal mit dem Branchenriesen Nuclear Blast! Mit "Virtual Empire" (2002) tourten sieintensiv durch Europa, unter anderem mit DOKKEN, U.D.O., DORO und KROKUS. 2003 folgt das vierte Album„HELLvetia", das vom früheren Accept-/U.D.O.- Mitglied Stefan Kaufmann produziert worden ist. „HELLvetia" hat den Erfolg von CRYSTAL BALL enorm unterstrichen. Erfolgreiche Touren mit Axxis, Pink Cream 69 und Krokushaben CRYSTAL BALL noch einmal eine grössere Fan-Base beschert! "Timewalker" (2005), erneut von Kaufmannproduziert, verfolgte die Line des Vorgängeralbums konsequent weiter. Es folgte die erste Headliner-Tour zusammen mit den Label-Kumpels THUNDERSTONE. 2007 haben CRYSTAL BALL einen neuen Plattenvertrag mit AFM Records unterzeichnet. „Secrets", ihr sechstes Album, wurde ein grossartiges Stück Hard Rock, produziert vonMichael Bormann. 2013 meldete sich die legendäre Schweizer Hard-Rock Band CRYSTAL BALL nach längerer Abstinenz mit dem Album «Dawnbreaker» zurück; und zwar stärker als je zuvor! Als Power-Transfusion holten die zwei verbliebenen Original-Mitglieder Scott Leach und Marcel Sardella den grossartigen Frontmann Steven Mageney aus Wuppertal, Deutschland. Der Fünfer unterschrieb einen neuen Plattenvertrag bei Massacre Records. Die Band absolvierte 40 Shows in sechs Ländern. Diese sehr erfolgreichen Touren mit Krokus und The Poodles bestätigten: The Balls are back ... for good! 2015 legten CRYSTAL BALL mit dem Album „LifeRider" kräftig nach. Das Album erhielt überall sehr positive Kritiken und wird von sehr vielen Fans und Journalisten als das bisher beste CRYSTAL BALL-Album betitelt. Mit „LifeRider"schafft Crystal Ball den Spagat zwischen klassischem Hardrock und modernem Metal. Der Gastauftritt von BATTLE BEAS- Sängerin Noora Louhimo im Duett „Eye To Eye" setzt dieser hervorragenden Produktion noch das Sahnehäubchen auf. Kurz darauf stiess Tony „T.C." Castell (ex-Krokus) zur Band. Es folgten erfolgreiche Shows mit den SCORPIONS und THUNDER sowie eine Zusammenarbeit mit Musikern der Wuppertaler Sinfonie Orchesters,die mit CRYSTAL BALL live aufgetreten sind. „Déjà-Voodoo" erschien 2016. Eine Tour zusammen mit SHAKRA durch die Schweiz und Deutschland, sowie eine Mini-Tour durch Frankreich mit FREEDOM CALLhinterliess bei den Rockfans einen bleibenden Eindruck. CRYSTAL BALL betourten auch diverse Festivals, was als Höhepunkt am Rock the Ring (Hinwil, Schweiz) gemeinsam mitDEEP PURPLE, GOTTHARD und KROKUS gipfelte! CRYSTAL BALLs zehntes Studioalbum Crystallizer wurde im April 2018 veröffentlicht und durch eine gemeinsame Tour mit AXEL RUDI PELL unterstützt. Crystallizer stieg in den Schweizer Charts auf Platz 18 und in Deutschland auf 61 ein. Es folgten diverse Headliner-Shows in der Schweiz und Festivals wie z.B. Rock of Ages oder Pyraser Classic Rock. Im Herbst 2018 absolvierte CRYSTAL BALL erfolgreich ihre erste Headliner Tour durch Deutschland. 2019: CRYSTAL BALL zelebrierte ihr 20 jähriges Jubiläum mit „2020" – ihrem ersten Best-Of Album, das bei MASSACRE RECORDS erschien und Platz 11 der Schweizer Charts erreichte.
