Netflix kicked Uncanny Counter from my ‘watching’ list bc I haven’t skipped through enough lately, which is... a literal sign I need to kick my ass in gear and finish for many reasons (s2, want to finish, etc) but most of all bc there’s a slight chance I might actually be in a writing program from September (if I get in... once I apply...) and that’ll focus me on my dormant novel and if the past 5 months have shown anything is that I’m not great at multitasking big projects!? hglidhugliudfhg idek

Fallen King readers will be happy to know I’ve almost completed yet another scene from ep14 (in ch7). So I actually wrote wayyyy more than 6 sentences today! But I’ll post... from one scene... 👀

Far from his typical cold demeanor, this Shin Myeong-hwi looked—sinister. His tone was curt, temper likely even shorter, Hyeok-u had no intention of drawing further attention to himself.

Unused to the cold grip of silent alarms running from his neck down his spine, he stumbled on his reply, though made sure to keep his head bowed as long as possible. “You… You’re back.”

He hadn’t heard the door close, nor had his father commented on his unsightly appearance, which felt very out of character, and that, more than anything, made him follow the urge to look over his shoulder.

His father still stood where he’d emerged, unmoving in front of his lit office, staring intently at Hyeok-u with—

Fic: Fallen King (ch7) Fandom: The Uncanny Counter

I was writing the bridging scene between Hyeok-u escaping the house from his deranged (possessed, murderous) father and being cornered by his never-were-friends when I got to the “what are some weird stores that exist in towns” part and for some reason thought a store that only sold one thing would be that.

I asked a friend, she mentioned a store in her town that was 90% zodiac stuff, which is cool and was my placeholder until I went to put it ‘on paper’ but... idk how much stock the western zodiac holds in Korean culture, so I thought, something with a punny name like I’ve read too many times.

“Quill me another one” came to mind because PENS, a store just. Filled with pens! Fantastic! But then it’s more brushes, isn’t it. “Brush me another one” doesn’t have the same ring to it, so I googled Korean idioms to get inspired, stumbled on here and found (#9):

 입이 근질근질 하다

Literal: Itchy mouth

Meaning: You want to spill the beans

If your mouth is itchy in Korean, it means you can’t wait to tell a secret that’s on your mind. These last two are easy to remember together as they share the same word for itchy and a somewhat similar meaning.

비밀을 말하고 싶어서  입이 근질근질 하다. (I just want to tell everyone this secret!)

Hence, the name! I did originally call it “Itchy Mouth” but. I don’t know Korean (yet?), I have no idea if the idiom is correct, so I stuck with English. It did get me a name and a quirky old store so, mission accomplished!
