I've always imagined scenes where Calamitas is acting out stories for Aetia, since she wasn't allowed to speak with her. Ever since she altered her biology to get closer to her, maybe she thought that the problem had been solved. After all, Calamitas started taking better care of her, right?

Favorite obscure myth?

Don't really have a favourite. But I was recently thinking about Rhea wrestling against Eurynome, and that almost entirely lost myth sounds dope as hell:

"Pherecydes, again, who is much older than Heraclitus, relates a myth of one army drawn up in hostile array against another, and names Kronos as the leader of the one, and Ophioneos of the other, and recounts their challenges and struggles, and mentions that agreements were entered into between them, to the end that whichever party should fall into the ocean should be held as vanquished, while those who had expelled and conquered them should have possession of heaven". (Origen. Contra Celsusm 6.42 = DK 7B4 = Pherecydes fr. 4 Ancilla to the Pre-Socratic Philosophers)

"And he sang how first of all Ophion and Eurynome, daughter of Okeanos, held the sway of snowy Olympus, and how through strength of arm one yielded his prerogative to Kronos and the other to Rhea, and how they fell into the waves of Ocean; but the other two meanwhile ruled over the blessed Titan gods, while Zeus, still a child and with the thoughts of a child, dwelt in the Dictaean cave; and the earthborn Cyclopes had not yet armed him with the bolt, with thunder and lightning; for these things give renown to Zeus." (Apollonius Rhodius, Argonautica 1. 503)

"As he [Helios] shines on the Ophionides [descendants of Ophion] . . . ((lacuna)) the older gods [Titanes?]." (Callimachus. Aetia fr. 177)

"And thou, O brother, most beloved of my heart, stay of our halls and of our whole fatherland, not in vain shalt thou redden the altar pedestal with blood of bulls, giving full many a sacrificial offering to him who is lord of Ophion’s throne [Zeus]. But he shall bring thee to the plain of his nativity [Crete], that land celebrated above others by the Greeks, where his mother [Rhea], skilled in wrestling, having cast into Tartarus the former queen [Eurynome], delivered her of him in travail of secret birth, escaping the child-devouring unholy feast of her spouse; and he fattened not his belly with food, but swallowed instead a stone, wrapped in limb-fitting swaddling-clothes: savage Centaur [Kronos; reference to his union with Philyra], tomb of his own offspring." (Lycophron Alexandra 1191) he's worse than Nonnos

"For before Kronos and Rhea, Ophion and Eurynome, daughter of Okeanos, ruled over the titans. But Kronos overcame Ophion and Rhea overcame Eurynome, casting them into Tartaros. They ruled of the gods until they themselves were cast into Tartaros by Zeus when he took power." (Tzetzes on Lycophron 1191)

The most convincing theory I've read, in my opinion, is that Ophion and Eurynome are parallels of Okeanos (Ogenos for Pherekydes) and Tethys. Okeanos and Tethys are sometimes fitted into genealogies preceeding Kronos and Rhea as parents of the titans (Plato Tim. 40e), similarly to how Ophion and Eurynome are fitted into the succession myth. They are always banished to the river Ocean (save in Lykophron), to which Eurynome is always connected, being classified as an Okeanid by both Hesiod and Homer, who also makes her dwell there (Hom. Il. 18.394-405). Her watery association is also present in her sanctuary in Arcadia, where her xoanon had the form of a mermaid (Paus. 8.41.4-6). Nonnos still pictures Ophion inhabiting the ocean (Dio. 8.150-160), and the world-encircling river being imagined as a world-encircling serpent isn't too far-fetched, considering the orphic propensity for world-encircling serpents, and Okeanos' appearance in vase art. Perhaps a myth existed where Kronos and Rhea battled Okeanos and Tethys for the throne, but who knows. In any case all of this is just conjecture (fun conjecture though).

Is Hera ever shown reciprocating the advances of Zeus that he made before they got married?

In Ptolemaios Chennos' New History Book 6 (summarized in Photius' Myriobiblon 190.47) there is this story: "The author speaks of the earthborn Achilles and of all the Achilleses who have been celebrated since the Trojan events; it is this son of the earth who, when Hera fled from having sex with Zeus, received her in his cave and persuaded her to join with Zeus, and it is said that this was the first intercourse between Zeus and Hera, and Zeus promised Achilles that he would make famous all who bore his name. It is for that reason that Achilles son of Thetis is famous."

Does that count as her properly reciprocating? I guess not since she needs to be talked into it, but she does eventually agree. She is not forced into it at least.

Then, in the story (attributed to Plutarch and attested in Praeparatio Evangelica) where Zeus kidnaps Hera from the island where she is being raised by her nurse and the nurse comes looking for her, Hera is described as grateful to have avoided being discovered: "Hera, being brought up in Euboea. was stolen away while yet a virgin by Zeus, and was carried across and hidden in this region, where Cithaeron afforded them a shady recess, nature's own bridal-chamber. And when Macris----she was Hera's nurse----came to seek her, and wished to make a search, Cithaeron would not let her pry about, or approach the spot, on pretence that Zeus was there resting and passing the time in company with Leto. And as Macris went away, Hera thus escaped discovery on that occasion, and afterwards calling to mind her debt of gratitude to Leto she adopted her as partner in a common altar and common temple, so that sacrifices are first offered to Leto Μυχία, that is, 'of the inner shrine'; but some call her Νυχία, 'goddess of night.' In each of the names, however, there is the signification of secrecy and escape. Some say that Hera had secret intercourse there with Zeus, and, being undiscovered, was thus herself denominated Leto of the night: but when her marriage became openly known, and their intercourse first here in the neighbourhood of Citliaeron and of Plataea had been revealed, she was called Hera Τελεία and Γαμήλιος, goddess of the perfect life, and of marriage."

She is not explicitly described as reciprocating Zeus' interest here, but I'd say it's at the very least implied that she does.

There is also the fact that several of these traditions about their secret/illicit sexual encounter don't differentiate between their level of involvement, so to speak. For example in Iliad 14 we don't hear about Zeus sleeping with Hera, but about the two of them sleeping together without their parents' knowledge. Similarly in a scholion to Iliad 1.609 it is claimed that "… during the reign of Kronos Zeus and Hera were in love for three hundred years, as Kallimachos mentions in his second Aetia, "Zeus loved [Hera] for three hundred years". In secret, they came together without their parents' knowledge and they brought forth a son, Hephaistos, …"

This one does make it sound like Hera was an active participant, but of course not all of them are like that. In a scholion to Iliad 14.296 we are simply told that Zeus deflowered (διαπαρθενεῦσαι) Hera secretly on Samos.

There are many other instances that could be discussed but I'll stop here. I think the short answer is kinda?

Caleb meaning dog, which is an animal that fits him and also faithful, whole-hearted, and bold

His surname, Vasilios meaning royal, or kingly

Backstory:

He was raised as the one and only Prince, his father had stuck to monogamy rather than the royal's usual harem of beauties.

Despite this, his father was not a good person, forcing him to constantly follow along with his ideals and prejudice against the common people.

His mother on the other hand was raised as practically elven royalty, which was one of the many reasons that his parents had married in the first place, an arranged marriage that ended in his mother and father truly loving each other.

Aurelius' Father taught him strictly to hate all those who weren't of "noble" race (i.e. Human, Elf, Dwarf, and those above.), and also intense homophobia. Aurelius was able to unlearn the racism as he grew up, especially so around Desiderio who was half-drow himself, but the homophobia was something his father taught with an iron fist.

Aurelius has moved  away from that, he is not homophobic or anything, and treats most people in his country with as much equality as he can, working through laws to fix this as he moves forward. But he has a sort of …

He doesn’t like loud things because of how much his father used to shout. He finds comfort in music and enjoys playing violin and flutes. He is quite talented in magic due to his elf heritage.

Aurelius and his mother are actually quite close, she is alive and well supporting of her son. Aurelius' mother does not support her husband's prejudice but still does nothing about it, too dismissive of it as small things.

He hates disappointing people, he constantly feels like he is. He is slightly clingy, as in he will hang on to Desiderio’s clothes when they’re standing next to each other, or stick close to Eurydice when she’s around. 

Aurelius is a soft spoken kind of person. He is kind, and thinks of everyone as equal. He has a tendency to throw himself into his work when he wants to avoid something, and is hard headed when it comes to his goals, he would do anything to protect those he loves.

He has a sort of toxic positivity about him, he’ll try to convince himself that everything is okay, even when it’s not. He knows what his father taught him is wrong, and what he put him through is wrong, but he can’t help but defend him when told about his wrong doings.

Even if he knows the system is corrupt, he is convinced he can fix it, although his main idea of fixing things is keeping it the way it is. He doesn’t understand how he can fix things around him, and is scared of what will happen when he does. If his father was gone, maybe he could heal better, but he isn't. His father is alive and well.

He loves with his whole being, once he loves a person he would do anything for them. He loves like a dog.

Connections:

Aurelius and Desiderio were childhood friends, and Desiderio is currently Aurelius’ royal advisor. Aurelius and Desiderio have been best friends since they were young children, the only genuine friends each other had 

Aurelius and Eurydice get along alright. She often liked to tease him when they were younger, but was much more focused on caring for Desiderio. Eurydice cares for Aurelius, that is obvious, but to her he is not her first priority, Aurelius understands this and keeps a sort of distance. They aren’t exactly really close, but Aurelius respects Eurydice for how she cares for her family and how she takes on responsibility. They both have a sort of mutual understanding of how they’re both the eldest of their families and are controlled by their father’s. Aurelius sees her as an older sister figure, this is not returned.

Aurelius and Cato have a sort of awkward relationship, they got along alright and Aurelius would even consider them to be sort of friends, bonding over their mutual care for Desiderio, but they never really talked to each other much.

How he speaks:

He has a regal tone, his voice hardly ever falters, a strong and loud voice. When he’s nervous his voice goes soft, or sometimes even much too loud, so loud he snaps and shouts at people when he doesn’t mean too. 

Physical Features:

He has naturally white hair that he wears in a dead-mom style ponytail, and blue eyes. He has a weak right shoulder and knee from ‘falling’ down the stairs as a child. He never found out how he fell.

Part A: Ancient fantasy

1) Mythological fantasy (Greco-Roman)

The oldest form of fantasy in the history of mankind is, without a doubt, mythology. The roots of the modern fantasy genre are found in the old myths and legends of the Antiquity - and so this read-list will open with a few works of reference when it comes to mythology, the most famous texts covering the legends of old.

# The “founding duo”: Homer and Hesiod

These two poets form the oldest Greek mythological texts known to history, and together they created the basis on which classical Greek mythology formed itself (though Hesiod and Homer had conflicting mythology, with numerous differences in pantheons, relationships and cosmogonies, resulting in an “Homeric” Greek mythology - older and more archaic - and an “Hesiodic” Greek mythology - the most famous and widespread one, the “classical” pantheon). 

Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, the two greatest epics of Ancient Greece, and the two works from which the epic genre originally defined itself. The Homeric Hymns were probably not written by Homer himself, just written in his style, but they are also a series of mini-epics each depicting the greatest adventures and most famous legends of the Greek gods.

Hesiod’s Theogony is the cosmogony of Ancient Greece, and the creation legend of its mythology. He also collected/wrote several Greek myths in his Works and Days.

# Callimachus’ Aetia (a poem explaining the mythological origins of rites, cults and worships, in the style of the Theogony) and Hymns (hymns to the god in the style of the Homeric Hymns)

# Apollonius’ Argonautica. Another famous Greek epic, and the main source of information for the myth of Jason, Medea and the Argonauts.

# The trio of famous Ancient Greece tragedy playwrights. Aeschylus, author of Prometheus Bound, the Seven Against Thebes, and the Oresteia trilogy (Agamemnon, The Libation Bearers, The Eumenides).  Sophocles, with his Theban trilogy (Oedipus-Rex, Oedipus at Column, Antigone) and other plays such as Ajax or the Women of Trachis. # The fourth volume of Diodorus Siculus’ “Bibliotheca historica”, which is a true encyclopedia of all the Greek myths and legends Diodorus could find.

# The “founding duo” of Roman myths: the Roman equivalent of Hesiod and Homer, with works just as influential as them.

Virgil, who with his Aeneid formed a “sequel” to Homer’s Iliad and created the greatest Roman epic of history - he also collected/rewrote several myths in his Bucolics and Georgics. 

Ovid’s Metamorphoses is the other main piece of literature that defined Ancient Roman literature and mythology as a whole, and for the longest time in Europe it stayed the main source of information about Greco-Roman mythology - to the point Ovid’s Metamorphoses was much more well-known than Hesiod or Homer’s own works. Other works of his with mythological tales include his Ars Amatoria and his Fasti. 

# Titus Livius’ “Ab urbe condita”, a work containing the history of Rome, but opening with the myths and legends concerning the foundation of this city.

# Antoninus Liberalis’ Metamorphoses, the lesser-know “twin” of Ovid’s own Metamorphoses.

# Hyginus’ Fabulae and De Astronomica. Compilation of myths and legends told with a scientific mind. 

# Apuleius’ The Golden Ass. A strange, bizarre, mystic and comical novel of late Ancient Rome, which contains the most famous version of the legend of Psyche and Cupid.

# The works of Lucian, another author of late Antiquity. Highlights include The Dialogues of the Gods, a parody of the Homeric epics and mythology ; Lover of Lies, which contains the earliest version of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” tale ; and A True Story, considered by many to be the earliest work of sci-fi.

# The Orphic Hymns, and the Orphic Argonautica, the two main texts informing us about the “Orphic religion”, a mystery cult with its own mythology, cosmogony and beliefs completely separate from the “classical” Greek mythology of Hesiod/Homer.

Important items to my OCs

Spite Scorchedearth is the cub of Aetia Burntdancer and Clement Forktail, great grandcub of Kalla Scorchrazor, great great great grandcub of Pyre Fierceshot, and great great great great grandcub of Vatlaaw Doomtooth. She also had a cub named Valag with her warband member Clawspur. Just before he would have left for the fahrar, Spite, Clawspur, Euryale, and Valag got infection with a viral disease that ended up killing Valag. While Spite cried over her cub who passed in her arms, Clawspur mourned internally and withdrew. Because of how he reacted, she thought he didn't care, and fell out of love with him.

Eventually, Spite became The Commander, her story is almost the same as in game, however there are a few differences. During the fight against Zhaitan, Spite lost her hand, and after the battle, her and Trahearne became mates. After HoT Spite hated and blamed Caithe for what happened to Trahearne, and attempted to harm her. Thankfully, the others were able to stop her and pull her away. Over the years, their shared love for Aurene was able to help them repair their friendship, and make it a little more than before... Before and after Aurene hatched she spent most of her time caring for her, and when Aurene was resurrected, they were able to speak with her telepathically (Aurene couldn't talk to anyone but her and Caithe until she became an elder dragon.) After Kralkatoric's death she left with Aurene to heal the damage he had done to Tyria and the Mists. After Soo-Won's death, she stayed with Aurene and Caithe, until it left to rest. Spite refused to deal with her grief at Aurene's leaving, at least until Rama sent her a letter where her grief and trauma would be thrown at them full force.

After everything settled down, they felt lost and left behind by her friends, which eventually led them and Widget to enter a rift and get thrown into a fight against the Kryptis.

Athinri of Twilight is the reincarnation of the Firstborn Wynne. She awoke in the time between dawn and night, as such she feels a connection to both, and she says she is of the cycle of Twilight. While in the dream of dreams, Athini saw an elder dragon, specifically Mordremoth, and the destruction it will bring. She also dreamed of the moment Wynne begged Caithe to kill her, though the dream shrouded the names and people from her. Her Wyld hunts are to slay Mordremoth, and find who killed the sylvari, and learn the truth. Though, she never expected her very own mentor to not only mislead her on her hunt, but to be the very sylvari she wanted to hunt down... When Spite left for the Crystal Desert, Athinri stayed behind with Caithe to take care of Aurene, and to keep and eye on Caithe, as neither Spite nor Athinri trusted her. As time went on, Athinri began speaking to Caithe again, and became like an aunt to Aurene. She never fully forgave Caithe, and their relationship will never be the same, but they are on good terms now.

By IBS's Whisper in the Dark, her and Braham have gotten into a relationship. After Braham becomes Primordus's champion, she leaves to go to Jormag, to ask and simply see if something could be worked out, however when Jormag offers her an alliance and she tentatively accepts, Jormag forcibly encases her in ice, making her a champion to go with her herald, Ryland. Holosmith Widget was an accident to her two parents, Zydeco and Kuda, however they still loved her deeply. Shortly after she was born, Zydeco realized that she would have a horrible life in the inquest, especially due to Widget developing asthma so soon after her birth, xey tried to convince Kuda to leave with them but Kuda refused. Eventually, they left Kuda behind.

Since she was young, Widget showed great promise and intelligence, even through her struggles with ADHD and asthma, and crafted an infinity ball and her Visor as some of her first inventions. When she was still in progeny school, she met Taimi and they connected instantly over their disabilities. At college her and Taimi met Gorrik and Blish and became close friends with them.

Eventually, her mentor was called to help prepare on the war against Mordremoth, and she decided to join up too, where she met up with Taimi again, and ended up sneaking away from her mentor to help the commander and thus changing her life. And even letting her meet her mother for the first time since she was a babe.

Widget specializes in holograms and golem mainly, but is eager to pick up anything that interests her in the slightest. In 1331 she accidentily gets sucked into a rift with Spite and becomes a Wayfinder.

After Spite disappears she goes into Nayos in her stead.

The [Many] Mistakes of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 That Can Still Be Fixed

There are many examples of missing/unfinished terrain geometry in Xenoblade 3. Some are minor—and some are pretty major—but there’s a concerning amount that are easy to spot and really give the over-world an ‘unpolished’ feel which slightly sours the image of a “send-off” to a trilogy of a much beloved series.

The issues I’m talking about are where there’s a missing texture or “face” on a part of geometry that basically allows you to either see right through a surface or even pass through it, possibly leading you out of bounds.

Here’s one [out of roughly 40] I found:

As you can see, the cliffside is missing an entire texture which allows you to see right through it. In-game it’s pretty noticeable, too, as it’s a decent portion of a large cliff that’s just completely missing.

It can be found south of Altruistic Maribel in Millick Meadows, Aetia Region:

The funny thing is, if you look hard enough you can see it all the way from Colony 9 in Yzana Plains, Aetia Region. Remember though, this is just one example I’ve found. There’s many more, unfortunately.

I’m sure there’s good reason for this. Maybe the developers had to meet a deadline for Nintendo or maybe they just honestly didn’t notice [as a good portion of this game’s development time mainly took place during COVID].

All I know is the sooner we can get Monolithsoft to this the better. Eventually Monolithsoft stops doing patch updates for games, and for the last game in an amazing trilogy that’s supposed to be the “send off” title, I don’t want to see it left in this state. It would be nice for it to be the most polished Xenoblade out of them all since it takes what they’ve learned from all these years of making games. Alas, in its current form, it is anything but.

The video is technically outdated as I’ve found 10 additional [similar] problems, but there’s so many at this point Monolithsoft will just have to scour the world of Aionios themselves to find all of them as I’m sure there’s countless instances. This puts me under the assumption that none of these will ever get fixed because there’s so many that it would [probably] take more manpower than Monolithsoft is willing to put in, especially since they’re likely already working on their next major project.

Either way, I want to get this out there and seen by as many people as possible for awareness on the matter. Xenoblade 3 deserves to be the most polished in the trilogy due to its nature of capping off a legendary series.

If there’s anyone out there fluent in Japanese that could help explain the issue to them properly via that form, it may end up getting fixed after all! That would be amazing. It would give Xenoblade 3 that extra bit of polish that it deserves!

Deep eyebags, a stretched smile, and the ever-present golden armor of the Tyrant. When this woman randomly appeared in the Jungle Empire and was given support by three of its lynchpins, those being Calamitas, Draedon, and Yharon, she immediately ascended the throne as its king.

The nobility had no say. The peasants didn't hear word of it until months after her ascension. And, after her first policies and speeches to the public, she was quickly accepted as the new king of the Jungle Empire.

At that point, it had become more of a clump of city-states rather than a distinct country. They were only held together by the beings of unfathomable power on top, those being its five lynchpins. Anyone who could gain the approval of that majority was already worthy enough of being king, and her actions were also very welcome in the eyes of all.

Under her policies and procedures, the entire empire had renewed into a whole state once more.

This wasn't an accident, of course. She had been groomed into the position by those lynchpins, even if one wanted nothing to do with her, another only saw it as an experiment, and the last was too interested in his partner's child to truly look deeper.

Her name was Aetia, and she was the only child of the Jungle Tyrant, Yharim.

Yes, that means Yharim fucked.

She's nearly eight foot tall, is physically strong, has a pair of wings grafted onto her back, has a few drug addictions, is mentally unwell, and has many, many parental issues. But the people love her, and she's very good at not making people think she's ill, so there's that. The eyebags are just part of the charm, obviously. It's not like she does super heroin to stay awake and do the mountains of paperwork she refuses to let anyone else touch, that would be weird.

Her total of three parents just bakes the cake on this one, too. Did I mention she doesn't eat? She doesn't eat.

She's also dirty as fuck. How much of a pain would it be to clean yourself if you're eight feet tall and wearing a golden suit of armor day-in and day-out?

Anyway, that's Aetia, whom I might post about sometimes because I think she's neat. Does she need to be hosed down? Absolutely. Does she need copious amounts of therapy? Get off drugs? Learn self-care? She'd disagree!

Working on Xenoblade OC lore once again

I really want to flesh out Colony Delta so it’s not just about Thea.

Location: We have no idea where Delta actually is, and it needs to go somewhere. Currently planning on having it be located in Millick Meadows (Aetia region) or the Syra Hovering Reefs (Keves Castle region, if Colony 15 can exist so close to Agnus Castle then Delta can be near Keves Castle). Might change if I get a better idea or we get some official info on where Delta is. I can’t remember if we saw Delta’s Ferronis at any point like in the flashback to Cammuravi’s fight with Ethel but if there’s no official design for it I really like the idea of it being some kind of serpentine dragon.

Characters: Did a bit of research into how many named NPCs are in each colony to find a good amount of other characters to include in Delta. There’s one lieutenant, two off seers, and eight other soldiers for a total of 11 NPCs in Delta. No idea where to even begin with naming any of them, the only Agnian NPC name I can remember is Foots, which is a weird name and I can’t unhear the accent Noah’s VA did for him when streaming Xenoblade 3. Still not the worst name in all of 3 though, Sena named some poor kid Biffteen. The Consul was also an issue since most of them die in other questlines, could’ve just made them Consul A but I did something different. Fiona’s Ascension quest involve finding notes from Consul I, which mention that there’s 26 Consuls, one for each letter of the alphabet. It’s possible for Consul I to die before the Consul S seen in game joins Moebius, so there had to have been another Consul S. And that’s Delta’s Consul because nothing can stop me.
