One of our all time favourites from the Aether archive: Our Issue 12 cover shoot & editorial with Diana Veras @mynamesdiana 💖🌞 ♡ ‘I was showed the Instagram and call sheet, so afterwards I checked everyone’s stuff out. I was like oh this is cool, this is sick and I don’t ever get to do anything kind of creative. I feel like bigger magazines are more scared, because they have so much to ‘lose’ that they don’t do anything as fun. I feel like everything just looks the same. The last thing that blew me away was the Serena williams cover. She looks so good and that’s cool, it’s experimenting; it’s putting something different out for us to see. I feel like younger publications and black creatives do much cooler stuff than big publications.’ Interview conducted & transcribed by @ffiennes 🌹⚡️ ♡ Shot by @miasakai95, styling by @hannahgrunden, MUA @juliaedwardsmakeup, hair by @aieashadoeshair and assisted by @pinkandtonic 🧚🏽‍♀️💫 #aetherzine #aethermagazine #aetherissue12 #aetherarchives https://www.instagram.com/p/B-zOyaKlz_k/?igshid=1kl3jjdt5l392

‘Transmission/Transition is a visual essay that extends on a collaborative project, Afro-Portraitism. Afro-Portraitism explores the art of portraiture within the African Diaspora taking all the connotations portraiture has carried throughout history.’ 💎 ~ ‘Transmission/Transition explores the feeling of displacement in the diaspora through a ‘Gen Z’ lens. This collaborative visual series uses an Afro-Portraitism approach of representation and the appropriation of western portraiture. This series imagines the arrival of the diaspora in the same light Christopher Columbus was portrayed in his arrival to the Americas. The visual direction takes form in a stylised and hyper-opulent manner. This project focuses on ‘self’ and explores internal dialogues of feeling displaced and how to reconcile this feeling.’ 🏆 This stunning project featured in Issue 12 still blows us away. 💫 ~ Concept + direction @mai_ye, photography @by_nwaka, styling @jawaraalleyne & @kashmoneyrecordsltd, makeup @afrolion 👑 tap for full team 🦋 thank you again to @mai_ye for sharing this with us ⛲️🤍 #hamedmaiye #afroportraitism #aetherarchives #aethermagazine https://www.instagram.com/p/B-mv_70l0Bf/?igshid=hek29b9l9a83

The work of the wonderful @zeewipark 🌔🦋🥀 ‘When I create, I just want to reproduce a mood or a feeling I’ve experienced or just imagined. Sometimes I will create to comfort myself when I feel sad and lost, trying to express all the remaining positive energy and hope I have through my works. I think that’s why some people tell me they feel somehow ‘healed’ by my works, which makes me really happy. So I really hope my art can keep communicating a sense of calmness and healing for others, too.’ interview from the Aether Issue 13 🌷⭐️🌈💧✨ #aetherissue13 #aetherzine #aethermagazine #aetherarchives https://www.instagram.com/p/B-kd58NFNcw/?igshid=1ey530870e92c

In issues 12 & 13, we were lucky enough to interview the incredible @teamlab 🌍🌸💫✨ In our issue 13 interview, we asked what words of wisdom they could offer young creatives. They answered: ‘teamLab was started by a group of friends who simply enjoyed time together, and it has continued to grow and change. If you only think in practical terms, logically, you will fail. It is good to start with the things you enjoy in life. We create art that allows people to experience the beauty of the world with their hearts and bodies. We are taught to understand the world through our heads, but it is important to experience things with our hearts. Do not think you can understand the world just through the internet’. 🌟 thank you @teamlab 🌈🌪#aetherarchives #aethermagazine #aetherzine #aetherissue12 #aetherissue13 (at Tokyo, Japan) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-UoQRBFjYX/?igshid=crx9zafmbml6
