My write-along contribution to AELDWS Round 5. I took the word limit as a... lovely, helpful guide. But just a guide.

Arthur/Eames, 548 words. Prompt: Touch Starved Genre: Canon

“What are you wearing?”

Arthur looks down at his plaid pyjamas and woolly socks and pauses. He drops his voice, aiming for playful; for sexy. “What would you like me to wear?”

On the other line Eames growls, a gritty, gravelly sound not even a shitty phone connection can distort. “I’d like you in nothing but your own sweat.”

Arthur shifts, enjoying the mental image. “Just that?”

“Maybe some lacy knickers.”

“Maybe you could bring some back for me.”

“That’s my Arthur,” Eames replies fondly, “already fishing for gifts.”

“I wasn’t fishing,” he denies.

He was. If he’s going to be left on his lonesome for weeks he might as well get something out of it and put in an order.

“Mhmm. What are you actually wearing?”

“PJ’s,” he admits.

“The ratty ones?”

“Yeah.”

“That’s…” Eames trails off, “...actually a fright more sexier than I was thinking." He sighs. "Arthur, you dog. I love peeling those off you.”

“I know."

The memory of the last time Eames had done just that surfaces. It's pleasant, until a sudden, horrible want washes over Arthur with such ferocity that his fingers ache.

The smile drops from his face.

Eames goes on, unaware. "Tell me more."

"Um," he begins, trying to think. "Well..."

Except he can't think. It’s been four weeks since Eames left for a job and Arthur's skin feels tighter, thinner with each passing day. A slow and steady gnawing becoming more pronounced, hollowing him out in odd, uneven places, rivulets and valleys of an unfamiliar need in places he didn't know he could feel it. 

Maybe it's the newness of joint home-ownership, but it's never been like this.

He closes his eyes and recalls the heat of Eames’ skin, the heaviness of his leg when its hiked over Arthur, either mid-coitus, or mid-slumber. In the dark of his imagination he can almost feel the scratch of Eames’ beard on his skin and the wet heat of his breath, the dig of his fingernails when he pokes Arthur between his ribs. 

“Still there, love?” Eames comments at the moment Arthur stands from the couch.

“Yeah. One sec, sorry.”

He narrowly avoids stepping on their cat, Morticia, on his walk over to their bedroom. Out of their closet he fishes out a large, threadbare hoodie and threads his arms through it.

Arthur has never been more glad that Eames is an enthusiastic proponent of the sniff-test. It ends up working in Arthurs favour; it hasn’t been washed since it’s last wear and it smells a little musty, and a lot like Eames. 

It’s too large for Arthur. But it’s warm. 

And it helps to abate the restless, quivering discontent under his skin at least. For that, he’s quick to forgive himself for his incredibly embarrassing behaviour. No ones around to see it anyway, except Morticia. 

“What’s that sound?" Eames queries when Arthur tugs at the zip. "Are you lubing yourself up for some dirty photos?”

“Yeah, Eames,” he rolls his eyes, returning to the couch, “that’s what I’m doing.” He picks up the remote and switches to an NCIS rerun.

"Oh my. Now we're getting to the good stuff."

He deadpans, “Uh-huh. I’m three fingers in. Ooh, baby.”

“Well, it’s the least you could do.” Eames voice is light, but drops to a whisper. “I fucking miss you something sinister, you know.”

“I’ve got something that might help with that.” 

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. Guess what I’m wearing now.”

“What?”

Warm, Arthur yawns widely. “Your hoodie.”

Eames pauses. “The ratty MU one?”

“Mhmm.”

“Fuck,” Eames swears. There’s rustling on the other end. “When I get home next week I better see you in it.” More rustling. “Can you send me a photo?”

The smile returns. He can do that.

Until We Dream of Life and Life Becomes a Dream

Hey.

I wrote a little write-along fic for AELDWS week 5. Idk if I’ll put it in the ao3 collection. I haven’t even put my official fic from week 1 in there yet, lol. Still fighting my way through some intense burnout, but eh. I was happy to write this.

The prompt was: Touch-Starved

The genre was: Canon

The word count limit was: 375 - 400 (I went over by about 20, but it’s not an official entry, so that doesn’t matter)

Rating: G (Eames gets mildly suggestive in spots, as he is wont to do, but still not enough to up the rating)

“What do you want, Eames?”

The man in question leans against the doorframe, rakish grin plain as he looks Arthur up and down.

“Have I not been obvious? All this time that we’ve known each other?”

Arthur rolls his eyes, but doesn’t move away to let Eames in yet. “Too obvious. Even Ariadne seems to suspect something.”

“We’ve only just met her, love. She’s a perceptive one.” He raises an eyebrow. “Gonna let me in?”

That earns him another eye roll, but Arthur finally steps aside, closing the hotel room door behind Eames. He turns, the two of them facing each other.

“What do you want?” He asks again. This time, however, the answer is different.

Eames sighs. His shoulders slump. “I wanted to see you,” he says. “I wanted to hold you. I wanted to be with you, just for tonight.”

“Eames,” Arthur’s breath catches. He wants that too. “Eames, we can’t- Tomorrow is-“

Tomorrow they’ll be undertaking the job of their lives. The ultimate score for people such as them. Inception, or at least the best attempt that they could have possibly planned. And that means…

“No distractions, I know.” Eames fixes him with a sad smile. “But darling,” he shuffles forward. Not quite in Arthur’s space, but close. “It’s been so long since I’ve held you in my arms. That’s all I want for tonight.”

He’s delighted to see Arthur’s mild annoyance morph into the smallest of smiles. The other man moves, bringing them closer still. He reaches out a hand and brings it up to Eames’ face, cupping his cheek. The feel of his unshaven face is rough, and so beautifully familiar. Eames, for his part, almost melts into the touch, like he’s been waiting for it. Aching for it. Arthur quickly brings up his other hand, practically cradling his partner’s head. Eames sinks into it even further, closing his eyes with a groan.

“No one else?” Arthur asks. He knows he doesn’t have to elaborate.

“No one else,” Eames says. After a moment, he adds, “there was never anyone else but you.”

Hearing this, Arthur lets himself surge forward. The kiss is a relieved, desperate thing, without much heat behind it. They both moan into it though, Arthur shuddering when he feels Eames’ arms wrap around his waist. Seems that the Forger wasn’t the only one aching for something.

Tomorrow, the world as they know it might be forever changed. But tonight? Tonight their world is right here, in this room. And for now, nothing else matters.

Inceptiversary 2019 MasterPost

It will soon be July and you know what that means! IT’S INCEPTIVERSARY TIME!!!!!!

In case you don’t know (and that’s fine, we love new blood in this fandom), Inceptiversary is the yearly celebration of the release of the film that keeps us darlings dreaming bigger: Inception. It takes place over five weeks (July 1st to August 5th) and includes fandom focused events, challenges, and content. It’s when we Inceptionites come together to strengthen the community, show appreciation, and welcome in a new generation of dreamers!

ALL SHIPS ARE WELCOME in the Inceptiversary festivities and we encourage you to explore a ship you haven’t before. You never know what you might find!

“But wait, teacup,” you say. “How am I to keep track of all these awesome events? How will I know what’s happening and what’s to come?”

I’m glad you asked, dear dreamer, because we have the super-organized and equally awesome @freighttraininmybrain over at the Inception Social Calendar and the miraculous trio of @flosculatory, @deinvatiwrites, and @dbshawnblog on the @Inceptiversaryblog keeping us from succumbing to Inception FOMO! So hold onto your grip on reality because the unbelievable details of this year’s Inceptiversary are laid out below!

1) Theme Weeks: 

Inceptiversary is structured over five glorious weeks, each of which caters to a theme in fandom. Fans are encouraged to post and reblog all manner of content related to each week’s theme. Memes, fics, fanvids, artwork, conspiracy theories; all will find a home! And you may just discover something you didn’t know you needed in your life.

This year’s Theme Weeks are:

Week 1, July 1 - 7 No Stone Unturned - Inception Gen Week 

This is a special Theme Week this year as we’ve paired it with a prompt challenge of the same name that will be run by @bayta-darell! The Inception fandom has a ton of love to go around, but what about the non-romantic kind of love? This week, we're focusing on all of the great platonic and familial relationships with a series of daily prompts. These are just meant as a starting point to get you inspired and by all means, disregard these as much as you want! All Inception content that isn't based on romantic or sexual relationships is welcome, and fanwork recommendations are certainly encouraged as well. Have fun, and happy Inceptiversary!

Week 5, July 29 - August 5 Crack/Fluff: 

It’s been a long month so kick back and relax with a large dose of everyone’s favourite guilty pleasure: Crackfic! We all need those fics that are purely for entertaining silly and happy ideas. They’re a soft place to land and a great opportunity to get wacky ideas out of your head! Indulge and enjoy the ride!

2. Watch Parties (@corinnetags, @noitsnacktime, @freighttraininmybrain ):    

Watch parties are an excellent way to meet other people in fandom and tend to create a ton of inspiration for future wips! All movies are connected to the cast of Inception in one way or another and will be held on either Slack or Discord or both depending on host availability/preference.  The schedule for all viewings can be found on the Inceptiversary Social Calendar.

3. Watch Party Bingo: (@withinmeloveresides1, @zuulee63)

On July 1st, 16th, and 31st, Inception Bingo during the Official (not really) Inception Watch Parties! You can check out the viewing times on the Inception Social Calendar. More info to come!

One of the most popular aspects of Inceptiversary is the Trope/Kink Bingo, and goodness, does it ever deliver! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a stake in this year’s Arthur/Eames Last Drabble Writer Standing event. AELDWS was missed last year, but in 2019 it’s returning to its roots and eliminating one writer every week until a champion is crowned! (I’m coming for you, @deinvatiwrites)

We’ve started planning for Inception 2020 and NEED YOUR INPUT!!!!

Because it’s a special year (Hello 10th Anniversary of Inception!), we’d like to expand AELDWS to allow for more participants. Below are some options, along with a very short survey so you can tell us what you’d like to happen this year. Please note that AELDWS will remain an elimination competition this year.

Option A (aka the status quo):

Single eliminations weekly

5 days for writing drabbles

Option B (aka double time)

10 participants

Runs from July 3rd - Aug 14th

Double eliminations every other week, excluding last two weeks

5 days for writing drabbles

Option C (aka pump it up)

15 participants

Runs from July 3rd - Aug 14th

Double eliminations weekly until last week

5 days for writing drabbles

Option D (aka the big D)

15 participants

Runs from July 3rd - Aug 21st

3 double eliminations spaced out over the weeks

Rules and Guidelines

About AELDWS2019

AELDWS is a weekly knock-out drabble writing challenge revolving around the pairing of Arthur and Eames. Each week, a prompt will be posted, along with a word limit. Participating writers will have five days (prompt and submission days included) to submit their drabbles anonymously. Readers will then vote for their favourite drabble. The last place participant(s) will be eliminated each week, until one writer remains.

General Participation:

Writers will be selected on a first come, first served basis in response to a sign-up post. This challenge will host a maximum of 20 participants.

All drabbles must feature the relationship between Arthur and Eames. This relationship may be slash, pre-slash, or gen.

The mods will post a prompt each week. Prompts may be words or phrases/quotes. If it is a word prompt, the theme must feature significantly. If it is a phrase, the phrase must feature in its entirety (i.e. no paraphrasing).

On certain weeks, word or phrase prompts may also be accompanied by a secondary genre prompt. On these weeks, writers are expected to adhere to both word/phrase and genre prompts. However, if no genre has been specified, please consider the genre to be a wildcard/author’s choice.

Each prompt will be accompanied by either a maximum or specific word count. Specific word counts must be adhered to exactly (e.g. exactly 300 words). Mods will be checking the word count with this program.

There will be no passes. If a writer cannot submit a drabble for any given week, they will be eliminated. Please keep this in mind when you sign up.

Writers may use one beta per drabble. In the interests of voting fairness, multiple betas per drabble are not permitted.

Submission and Posting

All submissions should be emailed directly to the mods at aeldws2019@gmail.com

Drabbles must be submitted with all formatting complete (either rich text or HTML) and a standardised header. Please warn for any kinks/triggers.

The mods will post all the drabbles in one weekly post on DW. Drabbles will remain anonymous until after voting. Mods will then post a weekly reveal.

Writers may not disclose which drabble is theirs until after the reveal. If writers use a beta, the beta must also maintain secrecy until after the reveal. Once names are revealed, writers are free to post drabbles to their journals, AO3 accounts, or any other community.

Grounds for disqualification

A writer may be disqualified from AELDWS2019 if they:

Exceed the maximum or specified word count

Disregard prompt requirements

Are proven to have publicly revealed which drabble is theirs before voting ends

Are proven to have used multiple betas
