Big spoiler warning for discussion of big moment in show

Im happy that the kiss was shot the way it was. Ive RARELY (if ever) seen a good gay kiss between straight actors lol they seem to have this tendency to smush their faces together while tight lipped afshdhd (looking at you ofmd lol) OR go weirdly aggressive so like… moody lighting, their heads blocking their mouths and focussing on the hands is a good touch to ramp up the believability just in case it looked at all awkward for the wrong reasons.

i just want to be clear i’m talking about this in the broader context of straight actors who portray gay relationships on tv/film, and how those actors and directors handle it. And GO did it so well compared to others in that canon. The moment had a “fic written by a woman” and “movie about historical lesbians” sensibility to it that i find hard to explain in any other way.

Dont get me wrong i believe Michael is down to mf clown adsgdhd the man fully filmed a whole series of softcore pwp and topped stephen fry in his first(?) movie role, and i know david can commit to the bit. I have a healthy amount of faith that if we just had a close up of their faces in broad daylight it would still be good.

im just glad it was shot in a way that communicated all the love, tension, heartache and queerness of that moment and there was no possible way to be distracted from that by watching the cogs turn in the actors brain as they psych themselves to Do A Gay Thing should that have occurred.
