Well, it was a good job she was a reporter, and honestly...as scary as Adriana was: Felicity scared her more. Still, like the meek mouse she was, she felt herself partially cower when she heard the harsh tone of her now-ex's sister. The words stumbled over one another, her mouth dry, her voice shrinking. She's shrinking, smaller and smaller...so when the shot arrives. She downs it, immediately asking for another. This was not her. She didn't do this...and yet, now she did. "I'm...actually, uh, here...trying...well I'm working." and she shook, physically. She might be a coward when it came to confrontation — but she knew what she was. "I don't understand..." she looked terrified. "I was invited."

"You shouldn't have come here. I don't care what's your reason, or excuse is . You shouldn't have fucking come here." Adriana placed her empty glass on the bar and turned to the woman. "If you know, then you know this is not the place for you. You've chosen whatever and... You have no right to be here. You have no right to make my brother worry about you or whatever you might see. These are his friends here and I haven't seen you with a single one of yours. I'm sorry, but I think you should leave."

"You can do what ever you like, with whomever else you please." words sharp enough to cut. "But he is not yours to chasiste in any kind of way," Mine. "Ever." Like a lioness protecting her cub, she doesn't let up: and the worst part of it all, she would do the same for Gideon in a heart beat.

And he could barely look at her without disdain. Taking two steps closer, to gain ground between them... she notices something...while they may have not been biological genes, in that moment, he looked just like Andrew. That soured face, those raging eyes as fury took over. And that both broke her heart, and reminded her...of who brought him up. Of Cerys.

Melissa catches 'girlfriend', like she's anaylsying him: as if he was on a witness stand, and she might better be able to asses how to turn this around...how to manipulate her way out of...but she doesn't want too. Instead, she leaves it...for his sake, and her own. There's the smallest part of her, masked behind that hoarforst exterior that wants him to understand.

To finally get it.

Words like ice water splash against her intoxicating rage, and it did nothing to cool the fire...stoked alive, burning from the inner core, a chill spreading outward until it reached her fingertips. Her hands flay to her sides, as she tries to wind it in...keep herself from exploding. Was this what Johnathan felt when they argued? How she couldn't control that shake in her hand, when she usually mantained perfect composure at all times, ever the lady.

Still, he refused to believe her, and she wasn't sure whether it was because he couldn't...wouldn't...or both. And just like Gideon was able to do, so well it almost seemed practiced: he pricked at the well of anger, the one she’d been unforgivinly nursing since the moment he'd stormed right through those doors.

"Believe it or not, not everything's a play for power." Melissa's shoulders shrugged, trying to release that urge to go for the groin, to fight until she found dominance. Instead, with her face growing colder by the second...walls slotted into place. Gone was the laughter that'd taken over her not even minutes prior.

No, this was Melissa Lin. Second of The Rutherford Organization.

And a part of Melissa wanted to slap away that look, that unshakable certainty in his eyes. Like he knew the answer to everything before she'd given it to him...like he was certain he knew. But like a boy, he knew nothing. 'I'm not your boy.' -- He'd screamed at her when they'd been at Adriana's party, and she couldn't lie...it'd stuck with her, so often reminded when she caught him at a social gathering, and they'd passed each other like sailing ships without a nod, or a greeting.

"I asked Nevra to check on Amélie, because in case you're not aware...that girl is in way over her head and your family sometimes has a hard time when it comes to being nice to people who don't do what they want them too." And, Gideon...in case you forgot, she's a journalist. But she bit back that retort, not wanting to send this to a place they ended up one too many times. "Because, it might be lost on you, I car-- " she stops her near slip, chokes it down.

She was tired, she was drunk...she was high.

At least, that was what she told herself.

"I thought I was doing you a favour."

He'd slept at the foot of their bed.

He'd slept at the foot of their bed last night, like some loyal guard dog, like her pathetic whelp Benjamin, like he would jump up and defend her against any possible threat... Like a fucking fool. All because she'd asked it of him. All because she'd looked scared, and he's one in a long line of idiots who'd fallen for it.

Melissa isn't scared.

He's now more certain than ever that the scheming lawyer has never encountered the word in her life. Gideon waits as her young associate hastily gathers his weed, making no apologies for the interruption as Benjamin stalks out of the tent, fuming. His gaze doesn't leave the Underboss all the while, not for a second.

'Don't you ever talk to him like that again.'

He laughs. Like he'd wanted to, last night. Hangs his head back and lets it out, a bark of laughter. "Try again, Melissa. You forget I'm not one of your spineless lackeys... I've sworn no oaths to you." Whatever grudging respect she's ever gotten out of him isn't because of her position on a hierarchy to which he's never belonged. It's the respect between social equals, which is exactly what they are in the outside world.

"And if you want him better spoken to, you'll ask him not to carry my girlfriend's name on his tongue." Had it been any other discussion, any other emotion underlying it, he might've noticed the slip between 'girlfriend' and 'ex-girlfriend'. But as it stands just now, Gideon doesn't. "Tell me what you want with her, and don't dream of lying."

Because he doesn't for a second believe that Benjamin was acting of his own agenda.

And yet the charge of villainy is such a joke that Gideon doesn't deign to answer it. He doesn't need to make Melissa Lin the villain. She's done a damn good job of it herself.

The Setting

The red carpet & photo stand portion of the event is now over, the five-course-meal has been served and guests are enjoying their desserts by now. Nora Berkeley and Damon Rutherford took the stage and made a speech about the importance of the cause.

Nora has asked the guests to look underneath their places and discover the location of the Easter Egg that holds the information about the kid and their wish.

"I'm glad to hear you're doing well..." she wanted to say more: but should she? It felt like she was in this situation constantly since she'd arrived here. Adriana had made her feelings known, Lara...was Lara...and Damon -- he'd always been good to her, the same as Yvonne had. "Time really has gone by quickly."

In both the regard of the baby, and her depature from their family. It felt like only yesterday, she'd spoken to Yvonne in the early stages, once she'd told people...how time had changed. The mention of the London Advocate, though, raises those alarm bells. It's the stiffening in her shoulders, glancing in Yvonne's direction as her lips soured but she pushed it into that smile: she felt it, that shift, as she did with everyone who was close to Gideon. She'd broken his heart, she was the one who walked away...so that made her the villian. Or was it simply because she felt that way, and Amélie was projecting on to everyone else.

She'd always liked Yvonne, truly...so with caution, she relaxed.

It's all in your head, Amélie, she tells herself.

"Yep, I still work for them," that smile, tighter than ever. "I'm..." how was she? It wasn't like she could exactly be honest. "I'm doing okay, I guess. Working, nothing extrodinary." she didn't come from their world...how could she compete when her days were...of a girl living in a dilapidated apartment in Islington.

"Better, thank you." Yvonne wrapped her fingers around her glass of wine and returned Amélie's smile. "I got your well wishes. I've been meaning to send out thank you notes, but with a newborn time just seems to disappear." That and she wasn't exactly sure to to say to her brother's ex-paramour. Which with how many her brothers seemed to wrack up in this city shouldn't be difficult at this point.

"And how have you been doing? Still working for the, London Advocate, was it?"
