Arnold Pyle (1908-1973) Old Round House Oil on stretched canvas 20" x 24.25" Arnold Pyle was depicted at age 21 in Grant Wood's 1930 painting, Arnold Comes of Age. Arnold Pyle (1908-1973) was a lifelong resident of Iowa and was a recognized painter and teacher. Arnold Pyle's eighth grade art teacher at McKinley High School was Grant Wood. Wood would become his mentor and a longtime friend. After graduating from high school in 1927, Pyle became Wood's studio assistant. His formal art instruction came from apprenticing with Grant Wood, Marvin Cone, and Adrian Dornbush. Arnold Coming of Age, Grant Wood, 1930. So why am I posting this painting of Arnold Pyle? Later, I will be posting an oil painting by Arnold Pyle.
