Lateral entry is a very interesting opportunity for students who want to study in engineering colleges. It is an opportunity given by the government of India and it allows students with Diploma or BSc (Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics) degree to take admission in 2nd year of b.tech.

BTech Lateral Entry is a direct entry to 2nd year of Engineering. It's also known as Diploma to Degree course and can be taken after passing the 10+2 board examination. The student will be allowed to take up BTech courses in any department or stream from 5th semester onwards, provided he/she has passed Class XII (or equivalent) with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects at least with 50% marks each subject respectively.

After doing diploma in Engineering and or BSc(Physics,Chemistry, Mathematics) students can take admission in 2nd year of B.tech.

Students who have completed diploma in engineering, B.Sc(Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and are seeking admission can apply for lateral entry at the UGC NET 2017. The candidates should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics as a subject at 10+2 level or any other relevant degree from an recognized university / institute with subjects such as Maths/ Statistics/ Computer Science etc., respectively.On the basis of marks obtained in Diploma and qualifying exam (12th) students get admission in engineering colleges on the basis of State Quota seats and All India Quota seats.

Academics

RIT offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) at the Undergraduate level. The program spans over 4 years (for B.E.) and 5 years (for B.Arch.); and is offered in 12 different branches. The course structure is designed by the faculty of the college with the consultation of the faculty at VTU and IISc.

The intake in the college is fixed by AICTE in India and no affiliated college has the right to increase the intake. This rule applies even to colleges that are academically autonomous. In 2010, RIT's students won 29 VTU medals in academics second to RVCE in the state among 186 VTU-affiliated colleges. The medals were awarded by Hansraj Bhardwaj, a governor of Karnataka.

The Institute offers 2-year Master of Technology (MTech) in the various Branches as well as Master of Architecture (Landscape Architecture), MCA and MBA. The college also offers M.Sc. (Eng.) by research.

The college also offers PhD program in 12 areas. RIT is an approved Research Centre by the Government of Karnataka.

Nikhil Garg is one of the JEE toppers who has secured AIR-6 in IIT-JEE in 2008. He was an average student until 10th and his family was worried about the future. But after 10th he went to Rajasthan’s Kota for the preparation of IIT-JEE in Central Academy and he had proved that with hard work everything is possible. After cracking IIT-JEE he joined IIT Delhi and now he is working for Gamma Networks. 

Arpit Prajapat

Arpit Prajapat from Madya Pradesh’s Indore has also cracked JEE in 2017. Arpit belongs to a poor family his father works as a gardener. He worked hard to fulfill the dream of his father and family. He secured AIR-46 in JEE advanced and AIR-244 in JEE Main. Currently, he is pursuing BTech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay.

Vibilisetti Mohan Abhyas

Vibilisetti Mohan Abhyas is the another JEE topper from Hyderabad. He is also from a poor family his parents are roadside vendors of samosa. He has secured AIR-64 in JEE Advanced and AIR-6 in JEE Mains in 2017. He wants to become a scientist that’s why he opted for engineering in physics at IIT Bombay.

Rajesh Sharma

Rajesh Sharma cracked the JEE exam in 2009. He has secured 20th rank in Physically Disabled Category. He suffered from neglected clubfoot which affects lower climbs also he was not able to afford coaching classes. His father was a carpenter in Jodhpur. After cracking JEE he joined IIT Bombay and got a job in Japnese e-commerce firm during campus placement with a package of Rs. 32 LPA.
