Part 6 of Caldera. This story will have 4 chapters; the first has been posted. This continues the Boston part of Daniel's book tour that I began to cover in the previous piece called "Time Has Opened Back Up to Us." Unsettling things are beginning to happen while they're on the road.

Chapter 1: No-Slaughter Rule (NEW, 2024-08-12)

“Of course,” the coordinator replies with a spark of recognition. “You’re the art dealer. How does it feel to have a character based on you?”

“A novel experience,” Armand says, giving her a coy, inscrutable smile that hides his teeth. He kisses Daniel’s hand, and then tilts his head toward the rows of empty chairs set up before the podium. “Do you mind if I tuck myself in that front corner seat, or are those reserved?”

“Wherever you like. Mr. Molloy, if you need a copy to read from, they’re right over…”

“Hey,” Daniel whispers, ignoring the event coordinator. He follows Armand to the front row seat that’s farthest to the right, nudged up against a wall of shelves. “Have you caught wind of any, you know…” He waits until Armand is seated to give him a quick kiss. “Others?”

“Yes,” Armand says tersely as Daniel steps back, tilting his shades down a fraction to let Daniel glimpse his eyes. They’re more red than Daniel likes to see, but it’s a form of honesty that he wouldn’t trade for any degree of calming deception. “Fledglings. I won’t kill them.”
