Adlock Headcanon
We all know Sherlock's nickname for her is "Woman". But what is Irene's nickname for Sherlock?
Honey.
Hear me out.
Irene has called Sherlock many things: Sherlock Holmes, Mr. Holmes, Sherlock dear, and just Sherlock when she was speaking with John.
But post-hiatus, post-TFP, when he can freely call her up and tell her to spend time with him in 221B, behind closed doors... What does she call him? As an endearment.
At first, I wanted "dear" but I realized she calls people "dear" when she's in Dominatrix mode. When she wants to be dominating.
"Ah, thank you, dear." after literally beating him physically.
"Sherlock dear, tell me what you found when you X-rayed my cameraphone?" after literally beating him emotionally.
And she's not the only one who uses "dear" as a power move or just to manipulate someone. Moriarty does it. "So take this as a friendly warning, my dear, back off." And Mycroft uses it. "And in this hour of need, dear brother, your name has risen."
So, I don't want "dear" as Irene's pet name for Sherlock since in the show, it's used when manipulators try to get something from Sherlock.
And then "darling" came into my mind.
But I just love the thought that "darling" is a Watson thing. Since Mary calls both John and Rosie as "darling." And I just didn't have the heart to give that nickname to anyone else.
Then I thought "honey".
Sure, Moriarty uses it once. "And honey, you should see me in a crown." but it's not in a manipulative way. He's basically just bragging at this point so I don't associate it much with anything bad.
And then...
Canonically in the books, we know Holmes eventually retires to Sussex Downs to be a beekeeper.
In the series, we don't really see Sherlock's love for bees anywhere.
And I just started to think that what if Sherlock's real career goal was to be a beekeeper before all his trauma with Eurus?
Yes, Sherlock has a big sense of justice, and his trauma for losing somebody and the case being forever unsolved, add to that the urge to solve Carl Power's death at the age of 5(?) because his subconscious reminded him of Victor missing and never being found.
What if all of that not happening just let him have the freedom to actually pursue Melittology? That what he always wanted besides being a pirate is to be a beekeeper.
Or what if without the trauma, he still becomes a detective as a part-time job but still a full-time beekeeper because even if he does have a big sense of justice, he's not pushed to the edge of finding the thrill away from drugs because he's not emotionally in pain.
What if no one else knows about that in the BBC universe?
Except Irene.
And she calls him honey because bees make honey. And he's her honey. And it starts out as a joke when she finds out about his love for bees. Because "Didn't John said in his blog that I humanised you somehow?" and Sherlock rolls his eyes and she laughs. And she calls him that ironically until it starts being unironic huhu
Anyway, I'm writing a fic about it literally right now lmao

Thanks so much for all the incredible (if 💔 😘) writing you’ve been posting. Every time there’s a new chapter, I think about what you must have to work around in offline life to make it happen. I just want you to know that you are “seen” and very much appreciated!
Sunday morning sidebar:
When I first read Glass I was a staunch Adlocker, but Glass is so brilliant, I gave up my ghost (which led to testing a bit of Johnlock, a bevy of delights I didn’t think I’d ever enjoy but very much do). I’d only read one rpf, but I adored the BC / OFC so much and still wish I’d downloaded the whole series before the writer scrubbed it. Searching for that is how I found your Adrian, Quinn, and Ellis. Realizing that Margaux was also yours, I will ultimately read everything you write and share, just as I do my favorite “hard copy” authors.
Something about the way you write women is very much akin to the aforementioned long-lost fic (AIWYWLM 4ever!). The woman is the central character, it’s her story. BC is just lucky to be there, and he’d better be absolutely gorgeous and not fuck it up (even though he must—I GUESS 😜). I think this is a good lesson; best to keep ourselves our own main character. While others around us may do so, we should never break our own hearts. 💞
There’s a tickle in the back of my mind that Ellis is not “your Fleabag”, that she is parallel past HP ran from at his previous parish before being reassigned and meeting Fleabag and fam…
Enough outta me, hope your Sunday treats you very well, daydream. Thank you for being you!
Thank you so much for your lovely words! Writing fanfic (writing online in general) can be a bit of a thankless ‘job’ at times but messages like this really do make it worthwhile.
It’s an honour to be your ‘gateway’ into other ships within the Sherlock fandom, haha. Glass will always be my baby and I’m forever grateful to you and everyone who took that story into their hearts.
I love writing main female/AFAB characters and always try my best to make them distinct and ‘whole’. Of course people come for BC, but I’d like to think they ended up sticking around for Ellis and Quinn and Adrian and Margaux.
Thank you so much again for your message. Happy Sunday to you as well! 🤍🤍

Holding myself accountable
The following text is part of an Adlock story that has been in the works at least since 2015. As I am not a prodigal author, the Word file has rested unopened for ages, even though every now and then comes into my mind. Today, for the first time in forever, I wrote new words into it.
Hopefully some of you will find this tidbit interesting. In any case, I hope posting this helps me to keep this WIP within my focus. Some parts I've shared previously as quotes, but will be probably different from the final fic as one of the main ideas behind it has changed. Apologies in advance as is (mostly) unedited.
So, here it is.
I’m awake and alive, Sherlock thought a mere second after opening his eyes.
In the past months it became a mantra, words of affirmation that no matter how horrible the nightmares were, they weren’t real; no matter how close the knife was the night before, he hadn’t died.
His heartbeat slowed down as if recovering of a short sprint, yet picked up its pace as he caught in Irene’s presence, languidly submerged in the tub in front of him. The night before he had briefly grunted at the unnecessary obstacle, and mentally noted it in case an emergency departure was required—it was the way things were now, he supposed.
But now, admiring the bits of wet skin that were available to his gaze, he acknowledged her choice of hotel—and room—had been more than marvellous. A knee barely above the water level, her dark locks up in an effortless hairdo, the mark in her shoulder that would one-hundred per cent match his teeth, a swollen nipple that he had both bit and pinched until she had recoiled by pulling the curls that were barely beginning to form in his head.
Suddenly ravenous, he propped himself up on his elbows, gaze piercing into her direction.

Rewatching Sherlock in 2024: Series 2
Rewatching Sherlock in 2024: Series 1
I have zero questions to my young self, a 14-year-old girl, who fell in love with Sherlock. I’m afraid my obsession with the show (and especially Johnlock) will last forever.
A Scandal in Belgravia (ASiB) was the first episode of Sherlock that I watched until the end. The winter of 2012, my TV didn’t work well, I barely saw anything on the screen, but I didn’t care. I fell in love with the show at the second sight. (At the first sight it didn’t work out.)
It seems like I never believed in Adlock. My (lesbian) heart went crazy over Irene Adler. That’s all.
I don’t know why but the flight of dead gives me chills.
The cinematography of The Hounds of Baskerville (THoB) is breathtaking.
Russell Tovey played Henry Knight so well! The moments of him going crazy hit me hard.
David Arnold and Michael Price are music geniuses. The main them of The Reichenbach Fall (TRF) breaks my heart. I immediately think of Sherlock’s fall and his final dialogue with John. /*crying*/
I can’t listen to the final dialogue between Sherlock and John. It sounds like a declaration of love. /*crying*/
In 2012 I cried watching Sherlock’s fall. In 2024 I just sit with my eyes wide open, being unable to breathe and move. Now I’m going back and forth like a ghost in my apartments. Seems like the heart was burnt out of me. TRF is definitely my favorite episode among all.
In 2012 I believed Moriarty had died but now I’m not sure at all.
I’ve never noticed that “the final problem” was mentioned so many times in TRF. As I see, this problem wasn’t solved in TRF. Also, it wasn’t solved in TFP. This problem hasn’t been solved in any series. Maybe it will be solved in Series 5?

Thank you for opening this discussion in the first place with your post :)
I agree with almost everything, except that I wouldn't say "Moffat wants Sherlock to be single" - I think it's just neither on his nor on Gatiss' agenda. For them this series is about friendship, siblings' relationship, family, detective story etc, and the romance stands far-far behind it all. Even the canon John/Mary isn't exactly a love story - it's just not what the show is about.
As for me - well, I am forever Mollcroft, because I think it would be more interesting than Sherlolly, and I love the dynamic between the three of them (Molly would be a better sister-in-law to Sherlock than a wife, but that's just my opinion). Between Sherlolly and Adlock I definitely choose the former. I think they had a great chance to create a wonderful Irene Adler, and they wasted it on vulgarity and 'hot stares'. Sad :(
That scene when John was talking about Irene Adler but very much described Molly 👌
We all know Sherlock was thinking about her 💗

Sometimes I think about the fact that "the posh boy loves the dominatrix" is a line that actually was said in "Sherlock" and then I'm just happy.
That was an actual line. That happened.

Adlock will live forever ❤️
Francesca, thank you for reposting this. Full translation is already on ao3:
Work in progress...
I started to translate my ficlet 'Near' from Russian to English. It's more interesting than I thought even more interesting than translate English into Russian. Sadly few months ago I realised that don't like to translate fics because I always want to add something from myself into text and then feel bad about it. But with English my brain works better because it's obviously harder and makes me remember about my University days. So there're few paragraphs:
...the more complicated becoming their missions, the more interesting the tasks, the more successfully they cope with them, the more courageous The Woman becomes. More desperate, more reckless. Literally, when he enters the door, she climbs out the window without any fear. He tries to talk to the villain and quietly knock out his gun, she, without warning, confidently hits him in solar plexus. Sherlock himself wouldn't take the risk in some situations. But she does it easily. But it’s worth saying, Irene Adler is like a cat. Jumping from the highest height she easily lands on all her paws, and always returns from the most dangerous adventures alive, unharmed, and also more pleased with herself than usual. There is something else in these situations as well. Sherlock always feels a special kind of danger, being next to Irene. Sometimes it’s pleasant but sometimes he literally feels how life and death walk nearby, whispering to their ears. But The Woman seems always be able to make deal with the Death.

So I've been seriously away from all things adlock, because I feel I don't have much time for fandom stuff anymore, even tho I still ship them so badly and Sherlock (as in the show) holds a very special place in my heart.
Still, somehow my brain last night came up with a dream in which I was watching tv and, surprisingly, coming across an episode of Sherlock that I had never watched before (which is something that has happened to me with other shows). Apparently Sherlock had for some reason retired from any detective work (but he was in his mid-forties, and it was still BC portraying him), and oh so obviously something had forced him back from retirement.
But Sherlock wasn't as bright and clever as he used to - I had missed the beginning, so I didn't understand some bits, but it gave the impression that giving up being a consulting detective had been a decision based in health issues, not quite sure if only mental, as he seemed a lot less callous, somewhat vulnerable and desperate at not being at his fullest and therefore unable to solve whatever mystery he was working on quickly. And I think the whole point of the episode was that - him having to deal with his own limitations and rebuilding mutual trust with his old acquaintances in order to solve a crime...
Which surprisingly, didn't mean Irene was there.
(Bad, bad brain).
But not really absent, either.
So at some point of the episode, John conviced him to going to some painting therapy (is that an actual thing?), and Sherlock started painting Irene. For whatever reason John had stayed during part of the therapy, but as soon as he realised it was Irene the one in the canvas, he had decided to leave to give Sherlock some privacy. The therapist had then tried to analyze the colors Sherlock was using to paint her, and somehow implying that his choice of pallette was becase she was dead (something to do with her pale skin tone), until Sherlock was like nope, that's how she really looks like, you idiot.
There was nothing more mentioned about it, but later into the episode the painting showed up, hanging discretely on 221B walls. And Sherlock, well, he had added a kid, too. So obviously, there I was swooning because that obviously meant adlock was canon and Sherlock and Irene, though not physically together, had been pretty much involved and had a child together.
I wish I could remember more of this dream to actually write a story about it. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if I'm writing this up in order to inspire someone to make my dream a piece of fanfiction lmao or if I'm trying to force myself and write something about this. Idk.
Sorry for the long rant. Take it as a long dream-headcanon-thing and as a hope-you-can-take-me-back-into-the-adlock-yacht letter.
Be well and be safe, my lovelies.

Okay if I may ask (and if you'd like to answer any one or more of the following) - 3 and 4 for any/all of your Sherlock/Irene stories; 7 for SR; 9 for SR and/or Disguises? Thank you and have a lovely weekend
For all of them!? I’ll try! Some of these were hard to pick, especially my older fics - it’s been a while since I wrote them, so my favourite bits may have changed.
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
7: Where did the title come from?
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
The Uneventful Afternoon:
3. As far as battle tactics go, becoming a statue to avoid seduction iscertainly a unique one.
4. “Don’t mind him. He’s just grumpy that he’s losing.”
“I do not get grumpy,” comes the decidedly grumpy reply fromher left.
A remembered kiss in the dark of night:
3. Eyes still closed and breathing even, his arms shot out tograb the intruder by their wrists (bare), yank them behind the person’s back(also bare), and he quickly tugged down and rolled, so that he was pressing theintruder against the bed, (her) arms immobilized beneath her.
Ah, stupid. Sherlockopened his eyes, 99.95% certain of whom he would see.
Irene Adler lay pinned beneath him, smirking, looking for all the world like she was enjoying lying there with her armswrenched behind her back. Perhaps she was.
4. Sherlock shrugged, but there was a twist at the corner ofhis mouth. “Always be prepared.”
Irene’s light laugh was genuine and surprised, but her voicewas seductive as she leaned closer, “Such a boy scout.”
Sherlock rolled his eyes. His voice was stilllow. “Hardly.”
Not with a whimper, but with a bang:
3. There’s something inhis eyes but she can’t place it, and she doesn’t dare linger to draw out hissecrets when she’s too afraid he’ll deduce all of hers.
4. “My work is all that matters to me. Sherlock Holmes:consulting detective. Everything else is just a distraction.” He pausesmeaningfully, wry. “But today, Sherlock Holmes is dead.”
Pressure Points:
3 / 4. “You trust me not to stab you in the back then?”
“I’ve hardly turned my back on you, have I?” Sherlockscoffed, sitting ramrod straight on her worktop, voice matter-of-fact.
“No,” Irene mused, making quick work of the tomatoes andabandoning them in favor of leaning her hands against the worktop on eitherside of Sherlock’s knees, one still holding the knife. “But then, you’ve notbeen able to take your eyes off of me.”
Sherlock’s hands came down to cup hers, quickly pinning herpalm and the knife against the worktop. Irene let her gaze linger on his handover hers for a long moment before raising questioning eyes to meet his. Whenshe finally did, she was glad to have his hands grounding hers. The intensitywas overwhelming - his gaze scorching through her and leaving nothing but ashin its wake.
The moment burned between them. Irene was stood between hislegs, leaning forward into him. They were only touching where his hands coveredhers, but palpable heat came crackling across the centimeters separating therest of them. Irene’s hand twitched, loosening her grip over the knife to layflat under his.
It was Sherlock who broke eye contact, shifting his gaze towardtheir hands as he slowly released hers, lingering in what might have been atender caress before he extracted the knife and set it aside. His posture wastoo perfect, highlighting the fact that even the slightest twitch forward wouldbring them into intimately close contact. “Shall I?”
Irene blinked, but even Sherlock Holmes couldn’tread her mind. The moment was broken. “By all means.”
A Most Murderous Case:
3. Clearly her briskpace (cause) had slightly elevated her resting pulse and respiration, leavingboth her cheeks slightly flushed and her bosom heaving (effect). Given herpenchant for attention, he calculated that 21% of the effect was manufactured.
4. “Sorry about that lot, Miss Adler. We’re not used tohaving a lady of your caliber at the Yard.” He shot a pointed, scoldinglook to Sally and she snapped her mouth shut.
Irene smiled decorously, a smirk hidden under her politemask. “I’m sure Doctor Watson will be disappointed to hear your review ofhim.”
Life among the dead:
3. There now - they’d both acquiesced to sentiment under theduress of Sherlock’s injuries. That wasn’t weakness but recompense, surely.
4. “I did.”
((It was too hard to pick. I not so secretly love how this fic came out. In context of the fic, that’s my favourite line. I have others that I enjoy for the humour or repartee, but that one always wins.))
Exceptions:
3. Sherlock’s temper wasnot improved by convalescence, withdrawals or his brother’s presence.
4. “Don’t you daremention America. I had to tell you something. And, considering I didn’t knowyou were alive for two years, we’renot about to quibble over it.”
Disguises:
3. The heat and her presence leave him light-headed; he feelsas though he’s high, but The Woman has proved far more addictive than any drug.
4.John looks like, were his wife and child not present, hemight punch Sherlock again. “Seriously? Why am I always the last toknow?”
Irene smirks. “I don’t know, wasn’t it your idea, Dr.Watson? Hamish, was it?”
Mary glances between the other occupants of the room with aknowing, delighted grin, before settling her attention on her husband andSherlock, still standing at odds. “Hamish, really? Look at the two of you, sharing baby names like a couple of old hens.”
Sherlock scoffs. “We are not naming our childHamish.” He blinks, and then frowns, turning to Irene. “Is it even aboy?”
9. No alternate versions - it just took me forever to decide on the details.
A piece of my memory:
3. This close, he inhales The Woman - boldand unfettered. She still favors Casmir fragrance, and the strong sandalwoodhits his nostrils like a familiar caress, coming on the tails of fruits andjasmine. After she’d borrowed his coat, he’d catalogued each individualcomponent of her perfume in detail. Her scent had lingered there for weeks -Casmir and The Woman and mystery. He can smell the slight salt of her sweat now- too long in heat of the wedding reception - a scent that brings back vividmemories of sticky hot nights in Islamabad and Morocco - Jordan, Cuba, Greece, more.
4. “Well, the wedding is over now. Allyour best man duties duly discharged.”
“Not quiteall of them. Something about shagging a wedding guest? I believe it istradition.”
Services Rendered:
3. Irenefinishes her cigarette, though it doesn’t take away the dark, smoky taste ofhim invading her mouth.
4.“You smoke mybrand. It tastes different on you. That possibility hadn’t occurred to mebefore.”
((It was really difficult to pick - it’s a very long story. I probably have one for each chapter, but these are both from one of my favourite sections.))
7. The title came to me along with the initial idea for this fic. The idea was to take the most straightforward words and situation (rendering of paid services) and then really dissect what that might look like for Sherlock and Irene if they’d met in such a situation. I hope the fic turns both words on their heads, both individually and in combination.
9. No, there were never any alternate versions.
((For what it’s worth, the only two Sherlock fics I’ve written with (partial) alternate versions are Exceptions and A remembered kiss in the dark of night.))

Adlock in the Abominable Bride
Me: So, you're telling me, that Sherlock imagined himself getting busted in front of Dr. Watson for keeping a picture of Irene Adler in his Pocket Watch, which he keeps with himself everywhere he goes, that in his Mind Palace? When he didn't actually need to, as it wasn't even relevant to the case?
Also Me: Fantastic.

Damn, I rarely if ever stop by this place anymore, but I refuse to close my account because I get the adlock-cravings every now and then. (And also because a part of me cherishes you guys even tho I'm just a shadow lurking in the background of the yacht.)
On the other hand (or maybe not so other...), I've been meaning to continue writing a story that's been FOREVER in my laptop. What's your best advice on finding focus to be creative? Do you encourage the use of cellphones (or basically anything other than the main device you're writing in) to actually put down any ideas that might strike you in a completely non-writing context?

Okay but here me out, I'm a big Johnlock shipper but I need to point this out
Many shippers be like "Johnlock should have been canon in s4" or "they were made to be canon and Moftiss didn't want to gave us Johnlock that's rude" or idk
First thing first, I don't think any directors should write new season or movies based on what fans are asking for because it will be a mess and not automatically quality (!) but nvm because lets talk about how Johnlock is written
Just like most of realitionships in this show, they're rarely precised or we dont have many quotes saying honestly what's going on between people (Adlock the forever mystery). It's all about deductions (coincidence? The universe is rarely so lazy.) And that's what I looove in this show: almost nothing is clearly declared, we have to understand and deduce what's going on between people and how they feel, just like in real life and thats the complete opposite of a commercial show/movie. This show will not only make you think with its cases but its characters, and very few links are clear (that's why Sherlock best man speech or the I am Sherlocked were breathtaking).
So what about Johnlock? We have so many proofs that their friendship (or whatever ship it is) is damn strong but also very difficult. It's first obvious because of everything they went through together- the best examples are the 2 years of John mourning and the after Mary's death, but also just the hell which is living with bored-Sherlock-corpses-in-the-fridge and all the cases and times they risked their lives together and for each other. But Sherlock is also always asking for John presence and John is always coming to help Sherlock wherever he is. Their bond is non-negotiable.
So, to the sentences "they should have kissed on the tarmac" or "He should have told Jawn he loved him before jumping or before the grenade explode in tfp" , I'm gonna react just after taking a big step back
Because I ship them and of course I would have loved this BUT im being objective and here's what I think:
All the realtionships in this show are very precious because of this subtility (the "Sherlock's actually a girl’s name" subtility yes). This thin fence shouldn't be crossed because it would loose all it's magic. The thrill, the questioning, the fact that everyone can understand their link with the same scenes we all watched, that's awesome. Here the best way to show an evidence of love is not to say the words (the fact that the only time Sherlock says it is to Molly and he doesn't mean it) or a kiss or proposal (do I need to mention Jeanine?). No, here love is hugging a consulting criminal in a pool because you're covered of explosives, its shooting a man flicking your mate's face, it's stealing a royal ashtray, it's jumping from a rooftop or simply buying milk. It's everything they do for each other and all their gazes and all their laughs. They don't need to say it, they know. And as I previously said, this show is not gonna force fate by telling you what you need to know. It's life guys, guess by yourself, nobody is holding a big sign with his role in the story. The euphoria seeing them being official wouldn't be as long as the one of watching them for hours having such weird and funny conversations or drinking tea in silence at 221b.
They're perfect like that.
The lost detective without his blogger.
The sociopath who prefers his doctors clean shaven.
The two of them against the rest of the world.
And sincerly I don't need to ask for more than a so deep realtionship which sounds better for me than a common "I love you"
So lets thank Moftiss for having written a so fascinating love story, whatever kind of love it is
but still love
