i love the occasional taste of "(a)historical slop" but the new season of br*dgerton is managing to be very impressive in its sloppiness. "how do we move these characters from scene to scene like lifeless chess pieces so that we may force romance tropes to play out instead of creating any interesting conflict or storytelling?" well. they've got that figured out at least. i don't mind when rules on propriety are bent a little for the sake of modern stories, either, but this show is so lax that there are barely any stakes left at all anymore. new plot points meant to be fraught scenarios are ones that have already been presented & solved in previous seasons, so there's no sense of drama there either. what's happening here. who let this happen. imho if you're going to be extremely ahistorical in your supposed historical you'd better also be extremely engaging, clever, funny, SOMETHING in your writing. this show is not.
the unexpected violin cover of a BTS song did make me laugh, though.
#you all know i love historical romances so this is NOT a tirade against the genre or me not understanding the genre#additionally i think it would have been better rto pull from another source than julia quinn; who is not a strong writer
