Prompt: “It’s taking everything in me not to slap you in the face right now.”
Pairing: Rooster x OC
 ---x---
It’s been years. He can hardly believe his eyes. Addison Brewer, in the flesh. The girl who broke his heart. Who even does that to an orphan? Cold as ice, like her fucking callsign.
But nonetheless, still hot as hell. He gulps because he can’t help it when he sees her.
He turns back to Penny, pushes up his shades, and orders another round. He was prepared for this.  He’d heard from Maverick that Addison was up in the air again. Not that he was asking. But Pete had some sort of sick twisted idea that he’d cared about the girl who ripped his heart out and shot it out of the sky.
“Un-fucking-believable.”
“What was that, Bradshaw?” Penny asks, handing him the beers.
“Nothing,” he sighs.
Walking back to the others, Phoenix corners him. “I saw. Are you going to be okay?” She had the unfortunate luck in having to see his mopey ass after that breakup. It wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t quick either.
“How do you want to play this?” she asks.
“Like always,” handing her a beer, he picks up a pool cue and tells Bob to rack ‘em up.
 ---
As Addison walks over, she’s not sure what she’s going to say. She knew most of these pilots from around the traps, but they weren’t her squad. She felt slightly uncomfortable. But she knew that this was more to do with seeing her ex, than being the introvert that she was.
She knew Hangman though, and boy was she glad when he came up placing his free arm around her shoulder.  Well, well , well, if it isn’t Little Miss Addison.”
She rolled her eyes at him and gives him a light punch to his side. “Hangman, can we drop the Little Miss now. It’s been 5 years.”
“Sorry, Brewer. Habit,” he shrugs.
“So are you ready?” He asks looking down at her. She raises her eyebrows in question, “First time engaging with enemy fire or as we like to call him, your ex, Rooster?” he explains as if it was the most obvious thing on Earth.
Goddamn, did everyone know?
“It’ll be fine. We’re all adults here.” She calmly explained.
“Well, some of us are. Some of us break little poultry hearts the night before a huge mission.”
“Shut the fuck up, Hangman. That was a long time ago.”
“Hey, don’t get all agro at me, I’m just preparing you for what may come.” And if Addison wasn’t nervous before, she sure was now. Of course these guys hated her. She’d done Bradshaw wrong. And she deserved what would come tonight.
“Heartbreaker is here!” Hangman called out and she grimaced.
Please God, do not let that name stick.
Her eyes naturally darted over to Bradshaw. Of course, she had noticed him the moment she walked in. How could she not? He was lining up a shot, so she didn’t expect him to look up.
But he did.
She couldn’t read him at all. It’s funny how things can change so much.
“Hangman, let me be clear here,” clearing her throat, Addison spoke up, for everyone to hear.  “It’s taking everything in me not to slap you in the face right now.”
The laughter was immediate and loud.
“And she’s back,” Hangman sighs, handing her his drink and walking back to the bar to grab another one.
Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a small smirk form on Rooster’s face and for a second, she thinks that this might not be the full on clusterfuck she was expecting.

A/N: I thought about maybe planning out these ficlets a little more, but I’m just not organised enough. Maybe at the end I’ll put them in some sort of order *shrugs*

Prompt: i’ll change your life, if you let me.
Pairing: Rooster x OC
---x---
Hypnotized by the waves, Addison doesn’t understand how anyone could ever want to live away from the water.
The sun on your face, the cool wind through the air….It felt cleansing.  The perfect place to start over.
She’d been here for over a year, thinking that this was it. The longest place she’d lived in after her military service ended. Well, ending was debatable since she hadn’t been discharged and hadn’t requested it either.  But, she was done running or so she’d thought.
And as much as she loved this place. She was ready to go.
It wasn’t as if she was running (except that it was), but she just had to get away from here. From him. And from that military life once again.
This giant pain in the ass, who had serenaded her and convinced her it was okay to let someone in again. “I’ll change your life, you know?” he had said that night on the beach watching the stars. As much as she didn’t want to fall for it, she did.
And now, he was just going to leave, like everyone else.
It wasn’t his fault though. He was a pilot. He never hid that from her. She knew it the minute he walked into the bar. Shades on…and that strut. She’d been around enough pilots to figure that out. Hell, a few years ago, that would be her walking through the bar like that with aviators on.
But Top Gun? It should have comforted her, knowing he was the best of the best. But how do you gain comfort when his job is to fly the most dangerous of dangerous missions? When, at any moment, the call could come and it could be his last.
And she had tried to keep him at a distance from the beginning. But goddamn, he was just so, so good looking…and sweet, and kind, and funny, as she’d come to learn.
He didn’t know all of her back story. He wanted to though. He wanted to know everything about her. But she couldn’t tell him everything. Not so soon after-
And so it was time. Time to let him go. Let this place go. He’d be on a plane out of here tomorrow and she’d be on the road, the very next day.
But not before telling him that this was it. And she knew it was cruel to do it right before he left. But it’s be crueller to not tell him at all.
She felt strong arms wrap around her. She hadn’t heard him walk up and plop himself down in the sand behind her, his knees enclosing her like a protective cage.
He placed a soft kiss on her cheek. “Hey.”
Involuntarily, her body moved into his. She wanted to remember this moment, this feeling.  God, she loved him. And that was danger zone territory.  “Hey,” she drawled out.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked.
It was now or never. “I need to tell you something.” God, this was going to kill her
“Okay, sounds serious…? Everything okay?”
She breathed in and started. “I’m leaving.”
“Okay, and where are you leaving to?” He asked. She could see the grin plastered on his face, without needing to turn back and look. He thought she was kidding.  She slowly got up and he followed suit. His grin fading.
“I don’t want to do this anymore.” She said it with resolve. If he had to believe it, then she’d have to as well.
“Do what?” but he knew the answer.
“You and me. Whatever we’re doing. I don’t want it anymore.” He scoffed and she could feel it coming. Bracing herself like she would before a 6G manoeuvre, she looked him in the eye.
“Like it’s so easy to just turn it off? Wow. You really are your callsign.” She winced. Her wingman, Rain, gave her that callsign and it didn’t mean that. But he was gone and she didn’t fly anymore, so I guess it didn’t really matter anyway.
“I’m sorry-” Rooster started to apologise, but she put up her hand.
“No, you’re right. But, it is what it is, okay. We had some fun and now I’m punching out.”
His tone softens. “Is this about tomorrow?”
Damn. He always knew. “Look, nothing’s going to happen to me out there. I’ll be back before you know it.” He leans forward trying to reach for her.
But she knew better.  “No.”
Hard. And final.
The way it needs to be.
She starts to leave and walk past him. He’s quick though, what with all those years of playing with the squad on the beach. His hand darts out and catches hers easily.
“I’ll change your life, if you let me,” he pleads. She knows it’s a promise from him. That same promise from a year ago. Rooster never says anything he doesn’t mean. That’s just the way he is.
He loves her. She knows it.
And she loves him. He knows it.
But it’s not enough.
“I’m sorry, Bradshaw,” the last words from her mouth as she walks past him.

Prompt: “If you die on me after everything i've done for you... i'll never forgive you.”
Pairing: Rooster x OC
---x---
“If you die on me, after everything I’ve done for you…I'll never forgive you,” Addison grunts out, in between heavy breaths. She’s climbing her way to the last known location of Rooster, desperate to get there before anything else can go wrong in this godforsaken mission.
As she reaches the summit, she’s stopped in her tracks by the carnage in front of her.
Rooster’s plane is split in two, with slightly more damage than her own. A quick assessment later, there’s no sign of him anywhere. She takes a minute and leans up against a tree, groaning because her ribs hurt like a mother-.
“Well, thank fuck for the ejector seat,” a familiar voice comes from behind her.
She rounds on him, catching his grin.
“Thank fuck for the ejector seat….Thank fuck for the ejector seat? Are you fucking insane or just concussed?” she asks as she forgets the pain in her chest and runs up to Rooster with a tight hug.
He pulls back quickly, not letting go of her arms, apparently assessing her for any damage.
“I’m fine,” she says exasperatedly as she waves him off. He gives her a look that says he doesn’t quite believe her. But Addison knows there’s really no time left. They’ve got to be miles from the extraction point.
“We’ve got to go. Like, now.” Snapping back to reality, he nods. He doesn’t let go of her though. His hand slides up to her cheek. He leans down and kisses her.  It’s familiar and welcomed, calming her in seconds.
Either of them could have died today.
But they didn’t and they were both still here.

Just saw Top Gun: Maverick and slightly obsessed with Rooster...aren’t we all?
These are just random words/stories with Rooster and an OC (Addison Brewer) based on some old Prompt Lists I have.
