lyrics below the cut:
this is the ending of the world come out and taste the ash obelisks colliding in the sky love on the front lines
outside your radius, outside your radius come and throw your babies to the mouth of the Euphrates and i believe we’ve come to see the end of the 20th century
oh useless limb, oh listless wife your drunken daze, your bloodshot eyes
this is the ending of the world come out and taste the ash obelisks colliding in the sky love on the front lines
outside your radius, outside your radius come and throw your babies to the mouth of the Euphrates and i believe we’ve come to see the end of the 20th century
oh useless limb, oh listless wife this hungry throat could swallow knives your drunken daze, your bloodshot eyes this hungry throat could swallow knives
it’s always alright when i feel the sun it’s always alright when i feel the let the sun shine in through the window in the hall let the fresh air in through the window in the hall let the air let the this is
#actually idk if that's maj9 or add9#or if the difference even matters that much#either way. 9ths are cool

String quartet today, continuing to look at one of the harmonic ideas I used in study no. 96. Specifically, add9 chords with the third in the bass. I'm continuing to be quite fond of this shape, as the bass note lends itself to try to function as the root (especially when it is the minor 3rd), creating an ambiguity that I find quite interesting.
In this study, I seperate the sus chord from the bass note texturally, which I find aids in creating ambiguity between the bass note and the root. I also invert the texture, having the 1st violin hold a note above the sus chord shape. I chose to use the 7th for this, rather than the 3rd, partly for contrast, but also as a kind of "mirror" to the 3rd below. The major 7th on top creates the same intervals as the minor 3rd does placed below, just inverted (same thing happens with the minor 7th above and major 3rd below). The perfect fifth relation between the 3rd and 7th also helps them feel like two expressions of the same idea, and it let me use both of them together during the ending.
As always, these pieces are welcome for anyone and everyone to play! All I ask is that you share it with me, because I'd love to hear it done by live players!

Led Zeppelin Musical Moments That Altered My Brain Chemistry
I saw this trend on tiktok and I wanted to make this list so here we are . . . Please add your own brain altering zeppelin moments
The moment of silence where you almost catch your breath before the guitar solo in ‘Good Times Bad Times’
The moment in dazed and confused when the guitars join and double the riff
The ‘going to San Francisco’ section of the TSRTS Dazed and Confused and the beginning of the bow section, specifically this figure at 9:35 on the live album track. I don’t know how to describe it besides (wheeEEEEEohwheEEEEE . . . weeEeEeE)
The lead up to ‘my gun’ part of ‘How Many More Times’ live on Danmarks Radio
The first lick of the ‘what is and what should never be’ guitar solo
The first Eb in the main solo of SIBLY over the Fm7 chord. It’s literally just the b7 on the 4 minor chord, which is so typical of blues, but Jimmy’s approach to it is so poignant and full of raw emotion and something that can’t be put into words
Not fully zeppelin, but SIBLY was the first song I ever played for a big audition and my teacher had been trying to get me to access my emotions more when I performed this and I was really awful at doing that; however, the performance, I finally managed to tap into myself more and after I finished, I was so relieved it had gone well and so overwhelmed by all the emotion I had brought up that I literally stood outside the adjudication room and sobbed. I consider this my life’s main character moment😖
There’s no specific moment in Stairway because to my, that song is about the journey form the way it starts to the way it ends, but something about it definitely altered my brain. The first time I heard Stairway to Heaven, I had to sit there for a few seconds after the song finished and process that entire musical journey I had just been on
The variation on the guitar part in the verse (ascending 8th note thing) Jimmy does during the last verse of stairway before the guitar solo in The Song Remains The Same (and most live versions)
Everything about the words ‘Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams, telling myself it’s not as hard as it seems’
The first beat of “The Song Remains The Same” and the energy of the entire intro section
The first rolled chord of the rain song transports me to another universe, but the moment in this song that actually permanently altered my entire being is the ‘conversation’ between the cello and the bass, where the cello has that little ascending line and the bass responds with a descending line
The bass downbeats during the introductory keyboard solo during no quarter and that Amaj add9 chord with the drums kicking in during “No Quarter”
In ‘No Quarter’ on TSRTS, When Robert ends the phrase “they chose they path where no one goes” by sliding up from the 5 to the major 6 and it goes form the 1 minor chord to such a bright 4 major chord under Robert’s major 6 and its literally perfect (I rewind and watch this moment like 5 times every TSRTS rewatch)
The ornamentations in the vocals and the grandiose in the instrumentals when everyone transitions out of the bridge and back to the riff in Kashmir
The moment the bass enters the main riff in ‘Ten Years Gone’ and the INSTANT warmth
Again, I can’t just pick one part from Achilles—it’s a symphony and I can’t turn it into a moment, but if I had to, the way Robert ends the last ‘I know the way’ makes me MELT
They key change in ‘All My Love’ and the ‘sometimes/I get a little lonely’ section make me want to sob
#not to be music major on main but#I just love Led Zeppelin so much and need to scream about the music#I cannot believe people write things like this#I cannot believe just four ordinary people created this with four instruments and a voice#what the actual fuck#led zeppelin#jimmy page#robert plant#john paul jones#John Bonham#classic rock#rock and roll

—⠀ 🀣 starter @yitarhero
may never associated siqi with...irritation. truth be told, siqi was undoubtedly a place of comfort for may. while he was crowds of hundreds, stages of bright lights, endless hours, and groggy 5am mornings, she was seclusion within studio walls, iced americanos bought on a whim, hoodie strings drawn in comfort; add9 chords between the low hum of 9pm traffic.
although they were undeniably different in most ways, may and siqi had always seemed to land in a comfortable middle-ground with one another— that was, if you didn’t consider today. maybe it was nerves, maybe it was over-exhaustion, maybe it was two energy drinks and a shot of espresso, or maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with kong yuhui and subtle, off hand comments he couldn’t help to pick up on, but may is all sighs and rolls of his eyes, hidden behind a shoulder too many and ineligible scrawls of writing against printer paper.
“sure, yeah, we can try it again,” his tone is heavy with uncharacteristic annoyance, and though he hopes siqi won’t pick up on it, he knows she will; she always did. “pull it back thirty or whatever,” turning around in his swivel chair, cheap ink pen tossed aside, may gets to his feet without making as much of a moment of eye contact. something is bubbling inside of him with every retake, with every comment of how his voice is strained, the click of buttons driving him further against a corner he desperately wants to get out of.
“what was the problem this time?” and once he’s behind a glass wall, headphones pulled over his head, may finally looks at siqi, visibly irritated and somewhat defeated. he didn’t want to lose his composure with her, but he’s ever unpredictable, words breathed out in a flurry.

Guitar Practice 10/11/24
I started off this session relearning the intro to Falling Away With You by Muse. Before I have shyed awawy from the chords, but next time I think I'll spend some time on learning those shapes and which notes make them add9 or minor6 etc.
With Get Me Out. I changed how it is played so that a rhythm guitarist can play just the normal power chords with the riff part is played seperately. The song also sound better like that, so playing this song is a lot easier and definitely achievable at 150bpm or faster. The real difficulty is singing at the same time, when I do suddenly my hands forget basic motor functions lmao. I've worked on this and really established the relationship with the singing melody and the guitar rhythm part to help with the chord changes.
For Just Cruisin' I had to build from a slower pace but I managed to get to 115bpm again comfortably and then with triplet blues I increased to 85bpm.
I got interupted by a phone call so I didn't get to learning Having a Blast. Next time hopefullly I will recap Burnout and learn Having a Blast
