Daily Trust reported that Dr Uwumagbe was last seen on Tuesday after he closed from work and headed home. A source from the hospital said that his abductors have reached out to his family, demanding a huge sum of money before he can regain his freedom. Kogi State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) confirmed the abduction of Dr Uwumagbe in a statement issued in Lokoja yesterday. A joint statement signed by the state NMA Chairman, Dr Baoku Olusola, and Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Bola Jonah, said their colleague was kidnapped shortly after leaving his hospital on Tuesday. “He was said to have been abducted with his car, an ash coloured 406 Peugeot with Registration number DAV 561 AA, at about 8:30pm on Tuesday,” the NMA said in the statement. Bhagavanth Kesari (2023) Movie Review, Cast, Trailer, OTT, Release Date & Rating
The Telugu film "Bhagavanth Kesari," directed by Anil Ravipudi and featuring Balakrishna, falls short of expectations, delivering a mediocre experience. While attempting to introduce fresh elements with Balakrishna's portrayal as an "adavi bidda" speaking the Telangana Telugu dialect, the movie suffers from predictability and weak character development. Introduction: The movie "Bhagavanth Kesari" had generated anticipation among audiences prior to its release due to the collaboration of director Anil Ravipudi and Nandamuri Balakrishna. Ravipudi aimed to create a film that would appeal beyond Balakrishna's fanbase. However, despite making attempts to break free from the star's usual formula, the film fails to make a significant impact.
Exploring the Film's Plot and Characters:
"Bhagavanth Kesari" is a story that revolves around the relationship between Bhagavanth Kesari (played by Balakrishna) and Vijayalakshmi (portrayed by Sreeleela). The film seeks to emphasize women's empowerment, with Kesari taking on the responsibility of mentoring Vijayalakshmi, who aspires to join the Indian Army. The inclusion of this theme is appreciable, as it goes beyond the usual romantic interest role for the female lead. However, the narrative falls into predictable territory. From the introduction of Kesari in prison, it becomes clear that his past and unfinished business will be major plot points. The presence of Sarath Kumar as a police officer with a daughter further hints at the direction the story will take. The film spends considerable time establishing Kesari's world, but fails to offer any real surprises or originality.
Weak Character Development and Clichéd Dialogues:
One of the downsides of "Bhagavanth Kesari" is the lack of depth in character development. Many of the supporting characters feel one-note, often resorting to clichéd dialogues. Multiple male characters express opinions that confine women to traditional roles and discourage them from pursuing physically challenging tasks. While the film attempts to counter these views with the character of psychologist Katyayani (played by Kajal Aggarwal), her poorly sketched persona makes it difficult to take her seriously. The pop psychology she dispenses throughout the film feels shallow and out of touch with real-life situations. Furthermore, the inclusion of inane jokes and scenes detracts from the film's intended message. One particular scene focuses on Katyayani finding Kesari's salt and pepper appearance intriguing, resulting in feeble attempts to woo him. Additionally, a scene in a police station is filled with crude humor, perpetuating stereotypes and undermining the film's supposed emphasis on women empowerment. These instances raise questions about the film's commitment to its own messaging.
The Inevitable Convergence and Balakrishna's Larger-than-Life Persona:
In a predictable turn of events, the paths of Kesari and a powerful business tycoon named Rahul Sanghvi (played by Arjun Rampal) intersect, giving rise to the classic revenge narrative. Rampal's portrayal doesn't stray far from the typical cardboardish villains cast in Telugu cinema. However, his efforts to dub in Telugu lend some credibility to the character. Nonetheless, the storyline lacks originality in this regard. Balakrishna's presence in the film showcases his invincible and larger-than-life image that his fans adore. The actor delivers punch dialogues with his signature demeanor and participates in numerous action sequences where he effortlessly overpowers his opponents. From taking on a gang of goons armed only with a steel bucket to driving a lorry into a harbor or a bus into a mansion, his character seems capable of anything. However, this excessive display of strength and action becomes tiresome after a while, diminishing the impact of the film.
Exploring the Emotional Father-Daughter Bond:
One positive aspect of "Bhagavanth Kesari" is the exploration of the emotional bond between Kesari and Vijayalakshmi. This storyline provides an opportunity for Balakrishna to showcase a different aspect of his acting skills. The film places him in a quieter setting compared to his previous movies and allows him to portray a father figure with depth and sensitivity. Balakrishna's self-awareness is evident when he sings a few lines of a song as a nod to a viral Instagram meme and declares his carefree attitude. For those who appreciate these small deviations from the norm, the film may present a redeeming factor. Conclusion: In conclusion, "Bhagavanth Kesari" falls short of expectations and turns out to be a mediocre outing for both director Anil Ravipudi and actor Balakrishna. While attempting to present fresh elements through the portrayal of Balakrishna as an "adavi bidda" and highlighting women empowerment, the film succumbs to predictability and weak character development. The inclusion of clichéd dialogues, inane jokes, and scenes that perpetuate stereotypes further hinder its impact. Despite exploring an emotional father-daughter bond, it is overshadowed by Balakrishna's larger-than-life persona and excessive action sequences. Ultimately, the film fails to leave a lasting impression.
FAQs:
Q1: Does "Bhagavanth Kesari" offer something new in terms of Balakrishna's role? A1: Yes, the film attempts to present Balakrishna in a fresh role as an "adavi bidda" speaking the Telangana Telugu dialect. However, the overall execution and weak character development undermine the potential impact. Q2: Is the film successful in promoting women empowerment? A2: While the film incorporates a women empowerment theme, it is overshadowed by the inclusion of clichéd dialogues, inane jokes, and scenes that perpetuate stereotypes. This reduces the effectiveness of its intended message. Q3: Does "Bhagavanth Kesari" offer engaging and unpredictable storytelling? A3: Unfortunately, the film follows a predictable trajectory, with the plot unfolding as expected. It fails to surprise or offer originality in its storytelling. Q4: How does Balakrishna's performance stand out in the film? A4: Balakrishna's performance showcases his larger-than-life persona and includes numerous action sequences where he remains invincible. While his fans may appreciate his portrayal, others may find it tiresome after a while. Q5: Does the exploration of the emotional father-daughter bond add depth to the film? A5: The emotional bond between Kesari and Vijayalakshmi provides some depth to the film. Balakrishna's performance as a father figure in a quieter setting allows him to showcase a different aspect of his acting skills. Read the full article

Probe Kogi Council Chairman Caught On Camera Destroying Votes - Falana Writes to Police, INEC
Femi Falana, SAN, the human rights lawyer, has written to the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He wrote to them to probe a video showing the Kogi Local Government Chairman, Joseph Omuya Salami destroying electoral materials and intimidating INEC officer during the February 25, 2023 election. Recall that SaharaReporters published the video where Joseph was filmed while he was destroying votes belonging to the PDP senatorial candidate for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan barely two weeks ago. In copies of letters of request sent to INEC Chairman and the Nigerian Inspector-General of Police, Falana described the conduct of Joseph Omuya during the poll as criminal and in contravention to sections 115(1) (f) & (j), 125 and 126(1) (j) of the Electoral Act, 2022 which are punishable under section 125, 126(3) (4) of the Electoral Act 2022. The statement reads: “We are Solicitors to Mrs. Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan (hereinafter referred to as "our client"). Our client was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vying for the position of Senate to represent Kogi Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly general election of 25th February's 2023. “Between 12 noon and 2pm while voting and collation of results was ongoing on the 25th February, 2023, several of our client's polling agents in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State reported to our client that the Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, Kogi State, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami in the company of his police escorts were going around destroying ballot boxes that were already thumb printed by voters in favour of our client at the various polling units. Our client's agents were able to capture on camera the criminal activities perpetrated by Hon. Salami at polling unit with Code 034, along Eid Prayer Ground, Nagazi/Farm Centre Ward and Polling Unit 033 Mikab Model School, Nagazi/Farm center ward, Adavi Local Government Area, Kogi State where he was destroying polling materials, ballot papers, intimidating voters and harassing electoral officials with the aid of police officers and thugs. He went to other polling units where he tore ballot papers already thumb-printed in favor of our client to reduce her wild margin against the candidate of the APC. “There is no doubt that the unwholesome activities of Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami, the Chairman of Adavi L.G.A. constitute very grave offences under the Electoral Act, 2022. Hence, it is our client's instruction to request you to use your good office to investigate the said offences which contravene sections 115(1) (f) & (i), 125 and 126(1) (i) of the Electoral Act, 2022 which are punishable under section 125, 126(3) (4) of the Electoral Act 2022. “In order to facilitate your investigation, we hereby attach the tape of the tearing of ballot papers by Hon Salami to facilitate your investigation. Kindly accept the assurances of our highest esteem as we await your timely intervention in this regard.” Read the full article

By • Olalekan Fagbade Kogi Guber; Provide materials in governorship election to SDP within 48 hours - Tribunal orders INEC The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kogi has given INEC 48 hours to issue certified copies of electoral materials on the Nov. 11 off-cycle election in the state to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). It also ordered INEC to allow SDP’s forensic experts to examine some electoral materials. The materials include Bimodal Voter Accreditation System and result sheets for Adavi, Okene, Okehi, Ogori-Magongo, Ajaokuta, Lokoja, Kogi and Bassa Local Government Areas. The tribunal ruled on Saturday in Lokoja that the SDP requested the materials to prove its case in the petition it filed against the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the election. Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu gave the order following two ex-parte motions filed on Nov. 19 by the SDP and by its governorship candidate, Alhaji Muritala Yakubu-Ajaka. Justice Birnin-Kudu said the orders became imperative in view of the time constraints the tribunal had to discharge its mandate. “The order is in compliance with Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended) and with the Electoral Act (2022). “INEC is hereby ordered to produce all the documents being sought by the plaintiffs within 48 hours to enable proceedings to go smoothly and without hitches,’’ he declared. SDP and Yakubu-Ajaka earlier filed seven ex-parte motions to support their demand but withdrew five and pursued two. Lead counsel to the petitioners, Mr John Adele (SAN), had earlier told the court that efforts made to obtain certified copies of materials used in the six local government areas from INEC had been fruitless. “Time is of essence in this matter, and that is why we filed the motions to your lordship to help to salvage the situation. “Each time we approached INEC since Nov. 13, its officials failed to avail us with even one of the electoral materials for which we requested. “We believe that if your lordship grants our application, INEC will do the needful to enable us to prosecute this case within the time limit,’’ he prayed the tribunal. Justice Birnin-Kudu adjourned the case to Wednesday, Nov. 29 for submission of report of compliance by INEC and continuation of hearing. The SDP and Yakubu-Ajaka are challenging the victory of APC and its candidate, Alhaji Usman Ododo at the election petition tribunal. INEC declared Ododo as winner of the election with 446,237 votes, while his closest rival, Yakubu-Ajaka got 259,052 votes. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Who: Adair With: Ravi ( @sxncerelyme ) Verse: Makin’ Magic Prompt: send me a 💏 and i will randomise a number in order for my muse to kiss yours… 36. to give up control
It was all very dramatic, this stumbling across town in the middle of the night in the pouring rain thing.
Adair had never much been one for dramatics. Nonsense stressed him out, and he was- admittedly- maybe just a little bit of a control freak. He liked routine, liked patterns, liked knowing what to expect when. It was just... his life as it was now had been carefully cultivated. He woke with the sunrise, worked his patrol- usually interrupted by a smiling sunbeam of a fucking dragon- dropped by either the blacksmith or the flowershop or abuela’s on the way home, rinse, repeat. There were those that would have viewed his life as boring, but he looked at it as being stable. And he liked stable.
One Quarter of the town going up in flames wasn’t fucking stable.
He hadn’t been asleep when it had happened, thankfully, else he might’ve gotten trapped in the inferno before he’d been able to escape. There was all sorts of talk about what had caused it and why, and the whisper of witch was on everyone’s tongue. Some fucking witch in some fucking tavern, that was the going rumor. Adair didn’t know if it was true or not. Didn’t know if he cared.
He was just hopelessly, helplessly numb.
If he’d been a good brother, maybe he would have stayed with Marisol and Pete in the aftermath of the worst thing that had ever happened to any of them. Maybe that’s what Abuela would have wanted. But Abuela was dead and all Adair wanted was to- forget, maybe? If such a thing was even possible. Wanted to feel something. Feel better. Find any scrap of comfort he could manage, and there was only one place in the world- one person- he could think to go to.
It didn’t strike him until he was struggling to climb the tree outside Ravi’s window how funny it was that the Quarter had raged with that endless, furious inferno for hours, only for the sky to open up and pour once it was too fucking late- once the damage was done, once countless bodies and homes and shops were burnt to a crisp.
He sat on the branch and shivered for a moment, soaking wet and crying and laughing with hands scratched raw from scrabbling at slippery wet bark, and then he resumed the climb to Ravi’s window. Glad that that window was still there. Glad that this little house with the dragon and the old lady had been at the opposite end of the capitol, outside of the inferno’s reach.
He came when Adair knocked. Of course he did. Ravi was always there, even when Adair didn’t need him, but especially when he did- and Adair crawled through the open window with all the grace of a clumsy newborn foal, slippery legs and an almost hilarious lack of coordination. He stood, dripping wet all over the wooden floors, and stared, just for a moment.
And then his face crumpled.
“I- um,” He started, voice wavering. “I... I need you.” The confession was raw but heartfelt in the otherwise quiet room. If he were drunk, maybe he could have blamed the alcohol on the insensitive way he lurched forward, clung to the dragon despite how wet and awful he was. But he wasn’t. Might have been if he’d been able to stop thinking about the look Abuela would’ve given him for it. He was so, so cold, soaked to the bone but the shaking likely would have persisted even if he’d been warm and dry. He felt like he was coming apart at the seams. His fingers felt like ice even as they wrapped clumsily around Ravi’s wrist, and he hated himself for the idea that he was bringing any discomfort to the lovely man-- but at the same time, he wasn’t exactly in control. He couldn’t help himself. He just- he just needed to be close.
He let loose a noise, soft and broken, and pressed ever closer, his other arm wrapping around Ravi’s waist. If he’d been more in his right mind, he would’ve probably asked himself what the fuck he was doing, but he wasn’t. Just pressed a needy kiss to Ravi’s mouth instead, not even something chaste and sweet- just wet and wanton and messy, desperate. Pleading. Needy. A request.
“I need you to take care of me. Please. I just need to forget.” The words were shaky and muted, a little muffled with the way Adair dragged his lips from Ravi’s mouth to his neck without ever breaking contact with his skin, burying himself there, feeling small and adrift and desperate to hold on. Desperate to be held on to.
