can't stop thinking about adar and sauron as a twisted thingol and melian parallel...that elf and maia dynamic. i mean it’s all right there...adar said sauron promised him children; sauron, not morgoth. such an interesting writing choice. and from the lore, it seems strongly suggested that melian literally gave up some of her maia ability to change forms in order to give birth to luthien. true creation requires sacrifice; melian did it to have a daughter with thingol, whereas adar himself and his children got sacrificed for sauron's warped promises of new life and ambitions...
